Have some fun at Fun Day Fun Day is not only a great way to spend the day; it is a part of something much larger. The Interior Community Services and Options and Opportunities program is organizing and running the 13th annual Fun Day on June 6 from 10:30am to 1:30pm at McDonald Park. Fun Day is a way to celebrate this program, which is about enriching the lives of individuals and families with adults that are living with disabilities. Options and Opportunities provides integrated family support, individual life skills development and safe nurturing home environments designed to assist people to live to their potential in the community. Fun Day is about celebrating this important community program and how it has changed the lives of its participants and their families. It is an opportunity for school groups, day programs and individuals in Kamloops and the surrounding area to celebrate the beginning of summer, interact with each other and create new friendships. Darren Fleming, community support worker for Interior Community Services is excited about the event. “Even though our program is primarily for adults, everyone is welcome to come celebrate Fun Day with us,” adds Darren. “The event is expected to be bigger and better than ever with the added participation of fellow

community groups such as the Big Brothers and Big Sisters.” Options and Oppourtunities is an adult day program providing support to people with physical and developmental disabilities. They assist participants to reach their individual goals and potential. They honour participants’ personal interests, strengths and needs and preferences, as well as support individuals to develop meaningful friendships and connections. They promote personal growth and in-

dependence. Respect each individual as a valued and contributing member of the community. The areas of focus are community inclusion, enhanced independence, building relationships and physical development. “We are a recreation based day program with a lot of community outings which encourage inclusion and socializing in our participants,” Darren says. “We do a lot of work with other organizations and a lot of volunteer work in the community.” Insured

and bonded, qualified and experienced community support workers run the program. McDonald Park will be a buzz of activity with a day of live music, art, and games including traditional hand drummers, a DJ spinning tunes, Kamloops Art Gallery hosted workshops and much, much more.
