New Clinical Services Building toured by MLAs and Health Minister Health Minister Terry Lake toured the new Clinical Services Building (CSB) at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) on Friday, March 4. Minister Lake was joined by Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Todd Stone and Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart, as well as Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar, chair of the Thompson Regional Hospital District, Interior Health CEO Chris Mazurkewich and representatives of Bird Construction to view progress on the new state-ofthe-art health-care facility. Construction continues on the Clinical Services Building. Exterior finishes are nearly complete and work has turned to the interior, with walls going up and paint and other finishes underway. At the same time, managers and employees have begun the work of getting ready to welcome patients when the CSB opens this summer. The CSB will enhance access to RIH for those who use the hospital’s outpatient services such as IV therapy, neurodiagnostics, the vascular improvement program, and laboratory. The CSB will also include an additional 350 parking stalls, as well as a simulation lab and expanded clinical education space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s medical programs.

United Spirit defeated Reccos by a score of 1-0 in the final of the Kamloops Women’s Indoor Soccer league Recreation Division, which was held in the Kamloops Soccer Dome on Sunday, March 6. The goal scorer for United Spirit was Leslie Buratti. Spirit’s goalkeeper Annette Hanna had the shutout. The match brings to a close the Kamloops Women’s Indoor Soccer League for the 2015/2016 season. The Kamloops Youth Soccer Association (KYSA) has acted as league administrator for adult soccer in the Soccer Dome since the organization took on a lease to manage the facility in 2014. City offers discount rain barrel promotion The City of Kamloops is making it a little easier for its residents to be green through the promotion of a limitedtime, rain barrel pre-sale. Through a cooperative partnership between Enviro World and the City of Kamloops, rain barrels can be purchased at a competitive price of $55 a unit. The catch? Rain barrels must be ordered online by April 15, visit www. kamloops.ca/rainbarrel for details. The pre-ordered rain barrels will be bulk-shipped to Kamloops for pick up at the Green Living Expo at the Sandman Centre on Saturday, April 30, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. A rain barrel is used to capture and store rainwater runoff from the roof of a home. The collected water is then used to irrigate lawns and gardens, or to wash cars, etc. There are many benefits of using a rain

barrel including; free irrigation for your lawn or garden, reducing the consumption of domestic water use, reducing runoff pollution to our rivers, reducing the need for the City of Kamloops to treat, pump and distribute water, promoting availability of a water source in times of drought or during watering restrictions and providing an inspiring example of environmental stewardship. Are you an organization, a group or a business that promotes sustainability? Do you provide a service, a product or support a cause that directly relates to sustainability at home, at work or in the community? The City is looking for quality exhibitors to partake in the Green Living Expo on April 30. If your organization fits this profile, visit www.kamloops.ca/expo for event and application details.

March is Nutrition Month Eating well can boost your health and help you feel your best. When it comes to making healthier choices Interior Health’s Registered Dietitians recommend starting with small changes – one meal at a time. March is Nutrition Month and over the next month Interior Health Registered Dietitians will be joining forces with the Dietitians of Canada to encourage Canadians to take the “100 Meal Journey” by making small changes to their eating, one meal at a time. “The average person eats around 100 meals in a month so that is 100 opportunities to make positive changes to your eating habits over the next month and beyond,” said Nadine Baerg, Public Health dietitian. “By focusing on one meal at a time you can make small lasting changes that you can stick with.”

Chili was a bad idea A woman was very nervous about her first date with a man she’d been attracted to for a long time. When he came to her door, she started to feel gassy and realized the chili she had for lunch had been a bad idea. Being a gentlemen, he carefully put her in the car and shut the door for her, as he walked around to his side, she farted loudly and quickly opened the window and began fanning. She was horrified when he got in and pointed to the back seat saying “Have you met Ruth and Jim?”

It’s all in the wording My wife, a real estate agent, wrote an ad for a house she was listing. The house had a secondfloor suite that could be accessed using a lift chair that slid along the staircase. Quickly describing this feature, she inadvertently made it sound even more attractive: “Motherin-law suite comes with an electric chair.”

Just before I die Showing his friend around his home, Jennings pointed out all of the collectibles he and his wife had acquired over their long years of marriage. “The day before I die, I’d like to sell every piece we’ve got just to see how much it’s all worth.” “Well,” his friend replies, “since you couldn’t possibly know the day before you were going to die, you’ll never be able to sell!” “And that’s where you’re wrong,” the man smiled. “If I sell it, my wife would kill me!”

That snail can move! There was once a snail who was sick and tired of his reputation for being so slow. He decided to get some fast wheels to make up the difference. After shopping around a while, he decided that the Datsun 240-Z was the car to get. So the snail goes to the nearest Datsun dealer and says he wants to buy the 240-Z, but he wants it repainted “240-S”.

He laughed, he cried… I went to the cinema the other day and in the front row was an old man and with him was his dog. It was a sad, funny kind of film, you know the type. In the sad part, the dog cried his eyes out and in the funny part, the dog laughed its head off. This happened all the way through the film. After the film had ended, I decided to go and speak to the man. “That’s the most amazing thing I’ve seen,” I said. “That dog really seemed to enjoy the film.” The man turned to me and said, “Yeah, it is. He hated the book.”

The dealer asks, “Why ‘S’?” The snail replies, “’S’ stands for snail. I want everybody who sees me roaring past to know who’s driving.” Well, the dealer doesn’t want to lose the unique opportunity to sell a car to a snail, so he agrees to have the car repainted for a small fee. The snail gets his new car and spent the rest of his days roaring happily down the highway at top speed. And whenever anyone would see him zooming by, they’d say “Wow! Look at that S-car go!”

Buried upside down An old man and woman were married for years even though they hated each other. When they had a confrontation, screams and yelling could be heard deep into the night. A constant statement was heard by the neighbors who feared the man the most. “When I die I will dig my way up and out of the grave to come back and haunt you for the rest of your life!” They believed he practiced black magic and was responsible for missing cats and dogs, and strange sounds at all hours. He was feared and enjoyed the respect it garnished. He died abruptly under

strange circumstances and the funeral had a closed casket. After the burial, the wife went straight to the local bar and began to party as if there was no tomorrow. The gaiety of her actions were becoming extreme while her neighbors approached in a group to ask these questions: Are you not afraid? Concerned? Worried? That this man who practiced black magic and stated when he died he would dig his way up and out of the grave to come back and haunt you for the rest of your life? The wife put down her drink and said, “Let the jerk dig. I had him buried upside down.”
