Inspired by a famous street in Philadelphia that was known for its artistic culture, urban atmosphere and steady ebb and flow of musicians, South Street roots itself in the philosophy that “South Street is more of an idea than it is a specific place.” Aside from its cool, laid-back ambience, which is only enhanced by graffiti walls and pop art, the venue is best known for its weekly musical performances. On Friday and Saturday evenings, South Street hosts acoustic acts — the perfect way to ease into the weekend. For a little bit of excitement and flare, Reggae Sundays have been a long-standing favorite for many who enjoy the smooth stylings of well-known and up-and-coming performers. Some of South Street’s most notable guests include One Drop, a reggae-meets-rock band from California; Casey James, one of American Idol’s most talented and well-known contestants; and The Apocalypse Blues Review, featuring Shannon Larkin and Tommy Rombola from Godsmack, along with Brian Carpenter and Ray Cerbone. Apart from its well-established list of musicians, what makes this venue truly unique is the combination of its stage space and stellar sound system. Rivaling those of stadiums and arenas, these elements have made this a prime spot for musicians to perform. Of course, South Street wouldn’t be complete without a stacked menu of comfort food, crisp craft beers and enticing cocktails. Start any meal with an order of tacos and Crispy Cauliflower Cheddar Bites to share before delving into pizza, Beer Battered Fish and Chips or Penne Marinara and Meatballs. South Street even offers a special menu called The Blues, which presents a variety of vegan-friendly options. To round it all out, be sure to try out one of The Street’s Seasonal Refreshers, such as the Poolside Prickly Pear Margarita or the “Oh Alice” Paloma, a blend of Don Julio Blanco Tequila, agave nectar, lime and grapefruit juices with a splash of club soda. With great food, incredible live music and crafty cocktails to top it all off, South Street is one scene you won’t want to miss. For more information, go to www.southstreetnaples.com.
