REGISTRATION AND MEMBERSHIP
For the last forty years, Northwood has offered residents and members of the community an opportunity to become involved and live more through its community outreach initiative. Membership to Community Recreation & Wellness including Fitness is $25.00 per month or you can sign up for recreation only membership at $25.00 a year. Membership including fitness, offers access to both Fitness Centres in addition to the membership offerings of the recreation membership. Membership offers access to recreation & wellness programs, special events, entertainment and bus trips.

Advance registration is required unless otherwise specified.
Drop-in programs do not require an ongoing commitment and are on a pay-as-you go basis. However, registration is still required if you plan to attend a drop-in program, please register in advance using one of the methods listed.

Live Entertainment Evenings
We are excited to bring live entertainment back to the halls of Northwood this fall. Our live entertainment nights will feature various performers who will be sure to make you tap your toes, sing along, or laugh aloud. This social atmosphere will give you a chance to relax and unwind among friends. Bar is open.

Harbourview Tropical Night
Feel like you are on a tropical vacation without going too far from home. Sip on a tropical drink and enjoy live musical entertainment and a chance to win prizes. This social atmosphere will give you a chance to relax and unwind among friends. Bar is open.

Country Line Dancing
Come join the fun! Line Dancing is the classic way to dance to country music. Host Ruth-Ellen Jackson will teach two simple and fun Line Dances early in the evening in preparation for the live entertainment by Triple Play. The fun really starts when we combine the live music with the Line Dance. Put your boots on and grab a cold drink for a stomping good time.

Cribbage
Join our popular Crib program this season. All playing abilities welcome, partners are not required. Players matched on a first come first served basis. Although partners not guaranteed, we try to get everyone in the game.

Cribbage Tournament

Elderberries

We’re bringing shopping and vendor/selling opportunities to you! We book a variety of local vendors with baked goods, jewelry, crafts, personal care items, and more. Ukulele Club
Learn to play the Ukulele in a fun and inclusive environment. Build on your ukulele skills and learn new songs and techniques in this upbeat class. Appropriate for all levels and abilities.

Spira: Choirs for Change
Singing in group can reduce stress, improve your mood and musicianship, and build relationships. Spira is a drop-in choir active during the summer months. The group meets outdoors and is characterized by a relaxed atmosphere. There are no auditions, and no musical experience is necessary to participate. Spira is perfect for those who are looking to sing and develop their music skills and be part of a community.

Active Walking Group
Walking is great for your health. Get outside and get going. The walking excursions last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours with a relaxing stop at a local coffee shop or park. Routes are determined by the group throughout the summer.

Building Better Sleep Workshop
Do you wonder how you could get a better night’s sleep? Sleep is vital to our physical health, mental health, and overall well-being. Join us for a discussion about why we sleep, what impacts our sleep, and other great tips.

Pauline Potter Fitness Centre Nutrition Program
Are you interested in learning more about healthy eating? Creating a balanced meal with a variety of ingredients is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Join ISSA Sports Certified Nutrition instructor, Dylan Teeple, in a healthy eating education session.

Bus Trip: Celebrating British Culture
With the King’s Coronation occurring this spring we are adding some British flair and fare to this great day out. We will head out to Main Street Wolfville and stroll through the town to shop or sight see. Then we will land at The Port Pub & Bistro for a late English breakfast or something else that you may prefer. Finally, we will have a Victorian teatime at Randall House museum. It is a great day to feel British without going too far from home. Register with payment by June 6. Please note, lunch is at your own expense and not included in the cost of the trip.

The William E. Frank Live More Park & Community Garden
Welcome to the Community Garden at Northwood Bedford Campus (123 Gary Martin Drive)! Whether you would like to grow your own organic vegetables, try out new seed varieties or learn new composting techniques, our Community Garden has space for you. Building on the success of our first few years, we have 42 newly installed beds available for spring and summer sowing, including six accessible units ready for all of your planting needs. A stocked tool shed will be available for all registered gardeners and there will be a host of events offered. Limited spaces available.
$60 Per bed for the season.

Fall Prevention Workshops
This fall prevention fitness class is aimed for older adults and led by Physiotherapist and Pilates instructor, Jalisa den Hartog. Did you know that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), falls are the 2nd leading cause of unintentional deaths worldwide. It happens to be adults over the age of 60 who suffer the greatest number of falls! This class is aimed at preventing falls from occurring by improving your mobility, strength and balance. It will also teach you ways to fall safely or to get up from a fall if it were to happen. Classes are a mixture of standing and sitting exercises. All exercises can be modified to your needs. Always listen to your body and go at your own pace!

Functional Fitness
A gentle approach to fitness using the guidelines and techniques from Pilates and Hatha Yoga. This class incorporates free weights, standing balance work, seated postures, breathing exercises and a short meditation component. Great for all levels and abilities. Improve strength and balance, increase lung capacity, socialize and meet new people and experience greater mobility. You’ll leave class feeling a deeper relaxation and sense of ease.

Chair Yoga with Weights
Experience a gentler approach to Hatha Yoga. Stretch and strengthen your body in standing, seated, and balance yoga postures. Breathing exercises and other mindfulness techniques will be used to promote relaxation, healing, and resiliency. Chair yoga has many benefits for participants with arthritis, high blood pressure, and anxiety. Experience relief from pain, ease of movement, and increased strength and mobility just to name a few. All levels and abilities are welcome. Modifications and variations will be shown.
