Tech Edition

The recently updated Mazda2 range has been enhanced with the new Mazda2 Tech Edition. On sale from the 1st July, the Tech Edition is limited to just 750 cars, and as the name suggests, it focuses on delivering extra technology. Based on the £14,695 1.5 90ps SE-L Nav, the Tech Edition benefits from the addition of 16-inch alloy wheels, Rear parking sensors, Privacy glass, Climate control, Auto lights and rainsensing wipers – all for a price premium of just £300 over the SE-L Nav. Further enhancing the value proposition is the free-of-charge choice of Dynamic Blue Mica, Snowflake White Pearlescent or Jet Black Mica paint. Highlights across all models in the updated Mazda2 range include the introduction of Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control technology and detailed improvements to the suspension and steering to deliver improved ride comfort and steering response. In addition, interior upgrades include new seat fabrics, a new steering wheel and enhanced sound insulation. Now exclusively offered with Mazda’s 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-G petrol engine, the simplified ninemodel Mazda2 range starts at just £12,695 for the 75ps SE, while the 75ps engine is also offered in SE-L trim. Making up the bulk of the range the 90ps version of the 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-G engine is offered in SE-L Nav, Tech Edition, Sport Nav and GT trim, while the 115ps output engine is exclusively matched to the flagship GT Sport and a six-speed manual gearbox. All models feature new seat fabrics, a new steering wheel and revised door mirrors with wraparound indicators. Enhanced refinement across the range is achieved thanks to the adoption of noise-insulating glass in the windscreen and additional under bonnet sound 8

"THESE UPDATES COME JUST TWO YEARS AFTER THE CURRENT MAZDA2’S LAUNCH BUT THEY ARE DESIGNED TO ENSURE THE MAZDA2 REMAINS A CLASS-LEADING CONTENDER IN WHAT REMAINS THE BIGGEST SELLING SEGMENT IN THE UK CAR MARKET.” Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director Mazda Motors UK

proofing. Plus, to reduce highfrequency noise entering the cabin from the rear, sound absorbing material has been added to the inside of the tailgate, the parcel shelf and the spare wheel well. The upgraded Mazda2’s dynamic enhancements also see the introduction of G-Vectoring Control (GVC). Having made its debut on the 2017 Mazda3, GVC is now standard across the Mazda2 range, the first of Mazda’s SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS technologies it varies engine torque to optimise loading on the wheels when cornering to indiscernibly provide more precise handling and improve comfort. Commenting on the revisions to the Mazda2 Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director Mazda Motors UK said, “With annual UK sales of over 10,000 cars, the Mazda2 is a really important car in our line up. It may be the smallest car we produce, but it has at its heart the same values of style, driving involvement and quality that mark out all our products. These updates come just two years after the current Mazda2’s launch but they are designed to ensure the Mazda2 remains a class-leading contender in what remains the biggest selling segment in the UK car market.” Adding, “The addition of the Tech Edition gives us a limited edition model that offers a winning combination of excellent equipment and extra value. Designed for a younger audience it is another example of how our Mazda2 special editions offer a distinctive and wellequipped small car experience.”

AUTO EXPRESS DRIVER POWER 2017 AWARD ALL-NEW PEUGEOT 2008 SUV WINS

• PEUGEOT 2008 SUV wins the Small SUV category at the Auto Express Driver Power 2017 Awards • Highest rated in its class in five categories including Engine & Gearbox, Exterior, Safety Features, MPG & Running Costs, Reliability & Build Quality • PEUGEOT also scoops a Silver Award in the City Car Category for the PEUGEOT 108

For motorists in the market for a small SUV there is no better choice than the PEUGEOT 2008 SUV, according to thousands of customers who took part in the Auto Express Driver Power survey 2017. The Auto Express Driver Power survey is the biggest motoring satisfaction report of its type, with participation from more than 70,000 UK car owners who were asked to judge their car in a host of crucial areas. A huge success story since its launch in 2013, with over 69,000 sold in the UK, the PEUGEOT 2008 SUV combines style and innovation with a

range of efficient, high performance engines, not to mention stand out safety. With highly desirable features such as integrated touchscreen, Grip Control and the Peugeot i-Cockpit, the 2008 SUV is far ahead of the competition. It was this blend of compelling features which handed the 2008 SUV its victory. It was a case of double honours too, as the PEUGEOT 108 also collected an award, picking up Silver in the Best City Car category, achieving an overall customer satisfaction score of 89.09% and top ratings across the sector in the following Driver Power Judging Categories: Ride & 10

Handling, Practicality & Boot Space. and has a wider choice of colours than you’ll find on other Kia models, including two-tone options and several bold interior choices. A 7.0-inch infotainment screen is standard, with options for TomTom navigation and a wide variety of features and apps. Kia European marketing director Artur Mertens said: “This segment is the fastest growing in Europe. It was one million sales last year and will be two million by 2020. By 2020, 10% of all cars sold will be a B-SUV. Until now, Kia has had no strong presence here, and now we’re launching into a market that’s taking off. This is really important for us in Europe.” Petrol engines include an 83bhp 1.25 with a

The Stonic is Kia’s striking entry into an increasingly populous segment occupied by the longestablished Nissan Juke, the more recent Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and Vauxhall Mokka. five-speed gearbox, a 99bhp 1.4 and a 118bhp 1.0 litre turbo triple, these with six-speed manual transmissions. A seven-speed automatic will be offered on the 1.0 turbo later. The diesel option is a 109bhp 1.6, to be replaced by a substantially updated engine during 2018. Kia’s European COO Michael Cole confirmed that the firm has no plans to launch an electric version of the Stonic, or any further SUV models – although he said the latter could change if there was customer demand. That approach contrasts with sister firm Hyundai, which is developing a Kona EV for a 2018 launch, along with two new models for its SUV range. Cole said: “[The Stonic] will be a very strong volume seller for us, in our top three. We already have very good heritage of making crossovers and SUVs, and this follows the Sportage in launching

into a very popular and fast-growing segment.” The Stonic’s platform is essentially as for the Rio, which was renewed with the latest version of the supermini. Intriguingly, Hyundai’s new compact crossover, the Kona, uses an older platform. The Stonic rides 43mm higher than the Rio because the seats are mounted higher and it sits on 17in wheels. All the exterior panels are different apart from the front doors. Inside, buyers can have extensive sections of the interior finished in metallic orange, bronze, grey or green. There are nine exterior hues and five roof colours. The Kia Stonic should make its public debut in late 2017 and go on sale in 2018. Entry-level models could cost from £16,000 while top-spec cars could set you back closer to £23,000.

SUPERB SALOON & YETI HATCHBACK named UK’s best cars to own

Š

KODA customers are the happiest car owners in Britain, according to the UK's largest independent automotive customer satisfaction survey, Driver Power. The brand secured an incredible gold rush of awards in the Driver Power 2017 New Car Survey with the Superb and Yeti proving to be the star performers, taking first and second place in the overall Car of the Year ranking. The duo also took top honours in their respective segment categories, outscoring the competition in the survey's individual vehicle attribute sections. In total, ŠKODA was awarded 10 Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. Now in its 16th year, the Driver Power New Car Survey generates results based on feedback from owners and delivers a true representation of what a car is like to own on a long term basis. ŠKODA has historically performed well in the survey and 2017 is the brand’s strongest showing ever. ŠKODA’s charge to the top was led by the current generation Superb, launched in 2015, which won Gold in the Overall Car of the Year ranking. The Superb also finished as the highest ranked car in the Family Car category and added to its collection of gold awards by outscoring all its 14
