T

he Mazda MX-5 should continue to get even lighter in future generations, which will provide the opportunity for three-cylinder engines to power them. Mazda have confirmed the fifthgeneration won’t arrive before 2021 but it should get lighter due to the increased affordability of lightweight materials such as Carbonfibre. Despite getting lighter it won’t get smaller. MX-5 program manager Nobuhiro Yamamoto has said “The size is right. But in the future lightweight materials will be very important and will be used in this car. Now carbonfibre is very expensive, but we have in development affordable carbonfibre, so the MX-5 will be lighter in the future.” Yamamoto also revealed that the recent Speedster and Spyder concept versions of the MX-5 were not feasible for production, despite showing the car at its purest. The pair were unveiled at the SEMA tuning show late last year in Las Vegas, and the Spyder appeared at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Stevenage FC Season Preview

CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL REVIEW

Stevenage FC rounded off an impressive pre-season with a 4-1 win over Milton Keynes Dons at the Lamex Stadium. The team will look at taking this form into the start of the Sky Bet League 2 Season, with their opening match again Crewe Alexandra.

In five of Stevenage’s last six seasons, Stevenage have either been in League One or League Two’s top seven. Last year ended in disappointment for the club, but they now look at bouncing back and hopefully challenge for promotion. Club Manager, Darren Sarll took over after a frustrating period under Teddy Sherringham’s leadership. Darren with advisor Glenn Roeder seem to be a great partnership and will hopefully provide the team with a foundation for strong performances over the season. Solidarity from the back seem prominent in Stevenage’s pre-season, recording four consecutive clean sheets. This is promising for the team as stand out centre-back partnership of Luke Wilkinson and Dean Wells look at continuing the form they showed in the second half of the season. Another key change to the Stevenage FC set up ahead of the season is the appointment of Long-serving Chris Day as goalkeeper coach. His guidance will be vital in supporting first-choice keeper Jamie Jones, who will certainly benefit from Day’s experience. Many fans and pundits are unsure of how Stevenage will perform this season, especially after the club going from playoff contenders to relegation battlers in the last two years. Many believe the fact Stevenage have kept the core of the squad and the management together will provide the team the opportunity to re-build this season and hopefully challenge for promotion. 10
