2016 is one big celebration for Peugeot, with a host of birthdays for some iconic cars and anniversaries of a clutch of victories in motorsport across the world.
VATANEN WINNING THE PIKES ARI VATANEN AND HIS PEUGEOT PEAK HILLCLIMB IN 1988 405 T16 GRAND RAID One of the events to celebrate this year is the London Classic Car Show, which was from 18th- 21st February. The event was opened by Peugeot Legend, Ari Vatanen and his car, 405 T16 Grand Raid, took pride at the event. The fantastic Peugeot was part of a stand featuring 4 classics alongside, Climb Dance, which was a Cannes award-winning film that showcased Vatanen’s success.
The 405 was unique in the 1980s due to its four-wheel steering which had never been used on a rally or hill climb car. Vatanen won the Pikes Peak hillclimb in 1988 with a time of 10:47:77 and the latest record time is held by Peugeot’s Sebastien Loeb, with a time of 08:13:878 driving a 875hp mid-engined Peugeot 208. The three other cars on the stand include the 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport, the 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport in the distinctive Coupe Franche colour scheme and finally the 205 T16, a road version of the successful rally car. The new 1.6-litre BlueHDi Diesel model returns with 94.2mpg and emits just 79g/km of CO2, which makes it the most efficient non-hybrid car in Britain. Previously the vehicle was only available in Europe, but the new 75hp model is available in both 3 and 5 door body styles in Active and Allure trim, costing from £14,995 and £16,195 respectively. This new engine achieved an official fuel consumption record last year of 141.2mpg over a long distance trip. The 1,337.19 mile drive was supervised by the French Type Approval Authority (UTAC). The Euro 6-compliant 1.6 BlueHDi 100 Stop & Start diesel model with a five-speed manual gearbox was, according to Peugeot, kept strictly standard with no alterations from its production spec. Peugeot Ambassador Well Down Under
Peugeot Ambassadors Novak Djokovic & Jamie Murray were both victorious in the opening grand slam of the year, The Australian Open. The event which takes part in Melbourne Park, saw Djokovic win the Men’s Title and Murray take the men’s doubles crown with partner, Bruno Soares.
Tennis is one of the areas in which Peugeot has invested in over many years, this is demonstrated by a 30 year partnership between the brand and Roland Garros, the French Open. World Number 1, Novak Djokovic first confirmed his partnership with Peugeot back in 2014, and the deal allows the use of his image in all of the brand’s activities, on all media and in all territories. The Peugeot brand also appears on the sleeve of all his tournament shirts. The player also features on a number of the brand’s promotional videos, have a look here: www.youtube.com/watch Jamie Murray’s success at the Australian Open was the first grand slam he played as a Peugeot Ambassador, after signing a sponsorship deal back in November 2015. This was Jamie’s second grand slam victory after winning the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon back in 2007. So why does Peugeot have such a strong bond with tennis? Well…. “Peugeot shares tennis’ values of performance, innovation and elegance,” 6
