We make bold and thrilling theatre. It is world-class, made in Nottingham and as diverse as our community... Welcome to a new season of worldclass drama and entertainment at Nottingham Playhouse. As well as offering a final opportunity to see Forever Young, a play about the eternally youthful, this season we bring you three plays with young people at their heart. Firstly Shakespeare’s tragic young lovers in a dynamic new staging of Romeo & Juliet; then a new play about Mary Shelley, who was only 19 when she wrote the radical and disturbing Frankenstein, and finally Beatie Bryant, the 22 year old heroine of Arnold Wesker’s stirring and moving play, Roots. All these productions 3
are being created in partnership with some of the country’s most exciting theatre companies; Headlong, Shared Experience, West Yorkshire Playhouse, The Nuffield Southampton and the Mercury Theatre Colchester which means Nottingham Playhouse’s work will be seen in more than 20 other towns and cities, as well as here at home. Whether you’re coming on your own or as a group, dressing up or dressing down – we look forward to welcoming you on these journeys of discovery.

Gilmore Roberts
BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Finalist
BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award nominees Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts combine astounding lap-tapping guitar, fiery fiddle and their trademark harmonies with considerable song-writing talent to make a truly distinctive sound. Since releasing their début album Shadows & Half Light in 2008, Gilmore and Roberts have been wowing audiences across the country with their unassumingly confident displays of instrumental technique.
This Nottinghamshire singer and songwriter’s début album Threads received superb local and national acclaim when it was released in 2007. Her second album The Life of Lilly continues to push the boundaries of folk as Ruth takes listeners on a musical journey through epic film-score-like arrangements and simple stripped-down ballads. Club Encore
Critics’ Circle
Club Encore is a lively theatre club for over 50s that meets monthly. Participants see performances, take part in workshops, watch rehearsals and hear talks by visiting speakers. Members are from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages and personalities, and meetings are always friendly and fun. Additional Readers’ Groups meet throughout the year, open to all Club Encore members.
Critics’ Circle is a pioneering scheme for Year 10 and above. We invite up to three students from any school to attend the Press Nights of every Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company production. The students take part in a workshop prior to the show and receive a complimentary ticket for the performance itself. They then create a response to the play they have seen. The scheme is open to everyone regardless of ability – but please note there is currently a waiting list for this group.

Staff Spotlight
Each season we will be catching up with one member of staff at Nottingham Playhouse… Who are you and what do you do? My name is Lorin Halsall and I currently divide my time between the Box Office, Admin and the Marketing Department. What do you enjoy most about your job? The variety – I go from promoting a production for Marketing and then switch hats for the Box Office where I get to meet the people coming to see a show.
What is the best thing you’ve seen or experienced at the Playhouse? I loved Nottingham European Arts and Theatre Festival (neat11) for its vibrancy, variety and vitality. What are you most looking forward to in the forthcoming season? I’m looking forward to seeing Mary Shelley – she had a fascinating controversial life, a woman very much ahead of her time.
