In Shakespeare’s captivating comedy, mismatched lovers and devious tricksters navigate the slippery shores of Illyria in search of their own happy endings. A shipwreck separates twins Viola and Sebastian, but tragedy quickly turns to comedy when they wash up in a land turned upside-down by love. With raucous antics, ravishing language and rich characters, Shakespeare creates a bittersweet tale

of laughter and longing. Twelfth Night features some of Shakespeare’s finest comic characters including Sir Toby Belch, Sir Andrew Aguecheek and the victim of their constant torment Malvolio. Paulette Randall returns to Nottingham Playhouse following her previous highly acclaimed productions Moon on a Rainbow Shawl, Angel House and Three Sisters.

Amy’s View by David Hare

10

“ Everyone has a different view. Amy’s view is that love conquers all”

With thanks to

In 1979 Amy visits her mother, the West End actress Esme Allen, with a big favour to ask and a brash new boyfriend in tow. When the pair meet, Amy will find the views she holds so dear are painfully tested as she has to decide what’s worth fighting for. What none of them can know is that the events of that day will set in motion a chain reaction which will dramatically change their lives forever.

Spanning a period of sixteen years, Amy’s View is about women, family, love and loss, set in an England corroded by the political forces of the 1980s. Written by acclaimed playwright David Hare, Amy’s View was first performed in 1997 at the National Theatre before transferring to the West End and Broadway.

Education Extra Lucie Sutherland from the University of Nottingham will be giving a lecture on David Hare before the show on Wednesday 17 November at 6pm. Places are free but limited, call Box Office to book your seat.

Under the Story Tree

Adapted from Armin Greder’s book by Laura Lomas For 9 – 11 year-olds

By Robin Kingsland For 4 – 8 year-olds

Adapted from a powerful, beautifully illustrated book for older children, The Island explores what happens when a lonely stranger is washed up on the beach of an isolated island community. Neither understand the other’s language, and all are suspicious of what he brings to their island. Performances of The Island take place in children’s classrooms, and are followed by a drama workshop exploring the themes of discrimination and bullying in more detail. The play tours East Midlands schools from 20 October to 19 November 2010 (excluding half term).

It’s a delightful story of friendship and co-operation, with live music, puppets and lots of fun and laughter.
