NoyseMag Issue #3

This time we had the pleasure of working with partners who have trusted our work since our first issue and happily, with new ones who wanted to be part of our project. We were very excited about working with the renowned Costa Rican photographer, Bryan Diaz. In this case for the production of our main editorial and cover, which were based of our contest, Hunting Style (in conjunction with Tressesenta Agency and Iurij Cussianovich). People sent us their proposals based on street style and current fashion trends. Christian Mc Koy , a young student of Advertising Design, with his proposal 50 Shades of Blue, based on the color, turned out to be the winner; who together with Bryan and the male model Andres Kaune, gave birth to a wonderful editorial. ROBERT ESCALERA By Iurij Cussianovich | Tressesenta Agency

Looking at Robert Escalera’s work it is pretty clear what his inspiration is: people. He admits that this has been the constant throughout the years and has boxes full of drawings to prove it. Robert grew up using art as a way to express himself. He remembers the excitement he felt as a child when he went to his aunt’s apartment in the West Village to use her art supplies. Although it would take years for him to understand what his high school teacher meant when she recommended that he “considered art seriously”, that is just what he would do years later. He studied fashion design at Parsons but admits he never felt like just a designer. This is probably because his vision goes beyond that, it is more comprehensive. It is this vision that would lead him years later to do branding and designing spaces for some of the most prestigious fashion brands in New York. This same vision led him to open his own shop in the Meatpacking District, from where he supported new designers, helping to catapult more than one career. Robert confesses that as he has matured his work has become more personal. He says he is now able to appreciate many things from another perspective, understanding what they mean and not just appreciating how they look. It is probably this ability to see beyond a mere facade that gives his work so much depth. His sketches are not just fashion sketches. In them there is a tangible sensibility, layers of other things that are not fabrics. His predilection for profiles therefore, which goes beyond drawings, does not come as a coincidence. He already has in mind a project that will combine illustrated, photographic and written profiles of people, not just playing on the word but presenting different angles of the same individual. Robert currently lives in Paris and makes, among other things, illustrations for books. He even just launched one of his own, a coloring book for adults that has been very well received (Thirteen Dots Coloring Book). Here we present you with a few of his many works.

PAPER LAB By Manuel Elizondo

Vacuous spaces, transformed into unimaginable designs and an alternative way to appreciate paper. This is a project that is getting its way into Costa Rican design, expanding their technique in corporate events, weddings, windows and runways. The architects Ana Victoria Lobo and Elder Leal are responsible for creating each piece. Curious about their ability to transform the material, they show us subtle, powerful and breathtaking pieces. Imposing folds, starting from complex figures, which although is not an unfamiliar industry, they have mastered the art in the country, making it popular in different niche markets. A suitable knowledge in architecture and space design, in addition to their valuable chemistry turned out to be necessary for the minds of these creatives to undertake, harmonize and to put into different perspectives the concept that Costa Ricans have about the paper. Ensuring exclusivity and quality in every one of their works. Bavaria, Johnnie Walker, Saba and Benetton have been involved with the Paper Lab project, having a nice response, and the admiration of those who have been able to assess its pieces. Distinguished and acclaimed in the industry, offering their talent to each of its customers. Ana Victoria and Elder, stimulated by their ability to work in team have learned, that challenges are the constant, that traditional tastes are hard to break and that is not enough to set goals, but to feel them. That time consuming hours are as valuable as the final product. The pulse determines the quality of their work, and found in a significant period of national commitment to provide quality, Paper Lab springs emphatically, giving the ability to understand that there is much more beyond paper.
