In “Backstage View,” director WANG Chia-ming and composer LIN Fang-yi talk about their collaboration to reinvent Lehár’s operetta Das Land des Lächelns. They incorporate rock and punk elements for a fresh experience.
We introduce the new store CAMI 2101, now open at the NTT, offering handmade Italian gelato and light snacks made from Taiwanese ingredients. Born in Taichung, Chen Hsin-fa, a film scenic artist, achieved a major breakthrough while working with the international team on Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. He eventually became the first scenic artist to stand on the stage of the Golden Horse Awards.

Verdi's last opera, Falstaff, completed in 1893, is inspired by the character Falsta from Shakespeare's plays The Merry Wives of Windsor and Henry IV. This rare comic opera showcases Verdi's mastery of composition, utilizing rapid and complex rhythms to convey the witty exchanges among characters. e set, props, and costumes have been transported from Tokyo's New National eatre to Taiwan for this production. Conducted by Jun Märkl, Music Director of the Taiwan Philharmonic (National Symphony Orchestra), the opera features outstanding vocalists from both Taiwan and abroad, along with the NSO, promising a richly meaningful operatic experience.

In the classical section, HUANG Yu-lin, WEN Yu-hang, CHEN Qinghe, and HUANG Chang-jan are invited to perform, using poetry, music and dance to take the audience to explore LI Qing-zhao's life and literary works.

This concert featured a repertoire of classical guitar music spanning from the Baroque and Classical periods to contemporary works, including classics by J. S. Bach, F. Sor, and I. Albéniz, as well as various styles such as Spanish Suite and bossa nova. It also included pieces for flute and guitar, such as Nuovo Cinema Paradiso and Bartók’s Rumänische Volkstänze. Through solo and duo performances, this concert offered the audience a rich and colorful journey.
The European continent in the late 19th century to the early 20th century was undoubtedly a very turbulent period. Great powers were at war with each other, and scientific and technological inventions were changing with each passing day. It was in this era of conflict between the new and the old, a talented composer, using his music, announced to the world that his era was coming. He was: Richard Strauss. Cellist SHIEH Meng-hsuan and Pianist WANG Yi-hsing will perform works form R. Strauss and L. Thuille, inviting everyone to dive into a very special "Deutsche Romatik".
Since its establishment more than 20 years ago, New Art has been committed to cultivating outstanding young musicians in Taiwan and providing a performance platform to create opportunities for outstanding musicians to be seen. This time, two friends, erhu master Jiang Chia-rui and guzheng master CHEN Ro-chen, are invited to return to their hometown to perform together. The Nga-Ko Choir has planned the Sounds in My Heart annual concert for 2024. Beside showcasing the results of their practice to the public, the association hopes that the annual concert will further consolidate the cohesion among its members and advance the Nga-Ko Choir. This concert will feature a joint performance with The Octangle Tainan Choir, which has demonstrated outstanding performances in both the church and choral communities.

Peeping Tom Triptych: The Missing Door, The Lost Room and The Hidden Floor
On an ocean liner, passengers embark with high hopes, only to find themselves trapped in three enigmatic enclosed spaces, dominated by natural forces from which there is no escape. Peeping Tom, the Belgium dance troupe that renowned across Europe, presents the thrilling masterpiece Triptych. With the troupe’s signature unsettling, cinematic aesthetic and the dancers’ contorted physical expression, it creates a disquieting, terrifying, yet sensuous, obsessive, sweet, and violent exploration of the dark corners of human nature.
The creative development and experimental objective of Control+ is to challenge the fusion and recreation of various cultural elements, whether involving objects or the human body. This project experiments by combining the throws and catches of juggling with different systems, persuading and manipulating them like a "control freak." By mixing "body," "technique," "systems," and "physical dynamics," the aim is to experiment with a unique "juggling" system that allows people to gain a deeper understanding of the workings and methods of juggling.
The ultimate confrontation between contemporary circus and dance theater. After Moss, FOCA Formosa Circus Art collaborates once again with the German dance theater group Peculiar Man to present The Blank Character. Missing Glyph ( □ ), a symbol used to represent an unrecognizable or missing character- If life were a crossword puzzle, would filling in all the blanks truly reveal the mysteries of life? With towering scaffolds and a ground covered in weeds, eleven performers, like workers on an assembly line, continuously produce information, only to be overwhelmed by even more, mirroring the mental landscape of the social media generation.
Taichung Chamber Choir takes the opportunity to break the artistic barrier and implement the "Life Aesthetics Salon Series" of music into daily life by producing a new trilogy Tea for Choir. With the theme of "tea" representing Taiwan's traditional culture, combined with Taichung's local style teahouse "ZEN ZEN THÉ", it sings the fragrance and color of tea, leads to the most primitive love and happiness in the heart, sings the aesthetics of life and tastes Philosophy of life.

在西方古典音樂史裡面,北歐諸國的作曲家向來並不是 大宗,然而所留下的曲目仍具有精巧迷人的韻味,因此 小提琴家熊書宜再度攜手鋼琴家潘祖欣,為聽眾精選了 挪威作曲家辛定的A小調小提琴組曲、葛利格的第 3 號 C 小調小提琴奏鳴曲、以及芬蘭國寶西貝流士的兩組小提 琴小品,期待與大家共乘北歐之聲的翅膀,來一場秋夜 裡的心靈旅遊。
With pianist PAN Tsu-hsin, violinist HSIUNG Shu-i will perform repertoire by Nordic composers, including C. Sinding: Suite for Violin and Piano in A minor Op. 10 and E. Grieg: Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 3 in C minor Op. 45 and two sets of pieces by J. Sibelius: Five Pieces for Violin and Piano Op. 81 and Six Pieces for Violin and Piano Op. 79.
The concert presents pieces for Flute solo, including Syrinx by Debussy, Hymn of Pan by DeLaney, Chanson de Pan by Bourdin, Suite Mythologique by Leonardo de Lorenzo, as well as Pieces for Flute and Piano, including Pan Pastoral by Donjon, Pour Syrinx by Charpentier, Sonata La Flûte de Pan by Mouquet, Prélude L’aprèsmidi d’un Faune by Debussy, and Sonata Joueurs de flûte by Roussel. Gathering the pieces from same sources of inspiration, the flutist CHEN Hui-mei wishes through the program, to invite audience to enjoy the beautiful music symbolizing the Pan and his flute from ancient Greek.

Ju Percussion Group's new creation, Percussion Theatre: Hexalogy, takes each impact and accumulation to profoundly connect our experiences, intuition, and emotions. Six distinctly different compositions reveal the diverse facets of percussion music, drawing out the hidden energies within the performers' bodies. From facial expressions to gestures, extending to each struck note, rhythmic waves resonate through the theatre’s air, creating a dreamlike beauty that unveils the most authentic emotions of the present moment. In 2024, Ju Percussion Group presents the third installment of Percussion Theatre: Hexalogy, in collaboration with creative talents including creative facilitator CHENG Yung-san, lighting designer CHE Ko-chien, vedio designer Ethan WANG, set designer CHEN Hui, and costume designer HSIEH Yi-wen. This production initiates a dialogue and contemplation with percussion music, returning to the essence of exploration. With music at its core, Hexalogy aims to deliver a profoundly moving percussion theatre experience through the purest audiovisual pulse of percussion music for its audience.
French pianist Jérôme Granjon returns to Taiwan after a twoyear hiatus. This concert features a special collaboration with the Ensemble Euphoria, performing Poulenc's Piano Sextet, a work widely regarded as one of the finest compositions for wind instruments and piano. This year marks the centenary of Fauré's death, and Granjon has selected Fauré's Nocturne in C-sharp minor, Op. 74, No. 7, and Nocturne in D- at major, Op. 63, No. 6. Granjon enjoys collaborating with young musicians from various musical styles and generations, aiming to create a rich tapestry of musical colors and sparks through these interactions.

Yukio Yokoyama studied at Paris Music Conservatoire under Jacques Rouvier, Vlado Perlmuter and others. In 1989 he won prizes at the Busconi International Concours and the Marguerite Long-Jacques ibeaud Concours. In 1990, at the age of 19, he graduated from the Paris Conservatoire with awards of Premier Prix in piano and chamber music, and the same year won third prize (no first prize was allocated that year) and also the Sonata prize from the Chopin International Piano Competition. In 2010, in one concert he played 166 solo works of Chopin, including all of the published pieces plus the major posthumous works, mostly in written order. e Guinness Book of World Records granted him the World Record in the category "Most pieces of music performed by a solo artist in 24 hours."
e Janoska Ensemble is one of the most original groups of extremely talented musicians, who are very unique in performing classical music, jazz, Latin and other genres.
1785 was an important starting year for the piano quartet. Mozart created his important and mature piano concerto & chamber music. e fourteen-year-old Beethoven, who was working hard to create music, took Mozart as his model and composed three piano quartets. Mozart's strong in uence can be seen in the form, music gure, tonality and tempo. ese two composers' piano quartets in 1785, even they are closely related to each other, however the mature Mozart and the young Beethoven have their own unique styles and sounds. is concert will use a ve-octave piano imitating the 1780s' Vienna piano. Inviting you to experience the unique sound of pianoforte, as well as the in nite inspiration and emotion conveyed by the music.
This concert will share works for two pianos and four hands by Russian composers from the late 19th century, including Arensky's "Suite for Two Pianos" No. 2, Rachmaninoff's arrangements from Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty Suite. It will show the different layers of the Russian sound and the variety of Russian piano works at this concert. In order to commemorate CHEN Mao-shuen, professor of composition at the National Taiwan Normal University, CHEN Mao-shuen's "Ballade for Two Pianos" will be performed at this concert.

In 2020, Daniel WANG created Wonderful, a work that narrates the final life journey of a father through a long monologue, portraying his dance with loneliness as he reminisces about his deceased wife. In 2024, WANG introduced a new piece titled The Moment. Within the same narrative context, this new work is written from a female perspective, presenting parallel yet interwoven memories with those in Wonderful. The main characters of The Moment are the mother, the daughter, and the daughter of a foreign caregiver, exploring issues of gender, family bonds, new immigrants, and life.
Russian composer Tchaikovsky's piano trio A Memory of a Great Artist stands out for its grandeur. In this piece, the piano assumes an almost orchestral role, delivering a powerful and expansive sound that captures the composer's cherished memories of a close musical friend. Another notable work is the Piano Trio No. 1 by 20th century Russian composer Shostakovich. This early composition by Shostakovich reflects his budding talent and romantic feelings towards a girlfriend at the time. The piece combines elements of Romanticism with modern musical language, foreshadowing the distinctive style that would characterize Shostakovich's later works. This concert promises to be a rare and highly challenging evening of classic interpretations, highlighting the emotional depth and technical demands of these masterpieces.
e NTT has once again invited the renowned musical actor Wally GAU to be the lecturer of the "Creative Aging Workshop – Musicals." is workshop will equip you with practical skills through a two-stage approach. In the rst stage, various exercises will help you develop singing skills, emotional transmission methods, performance imagination, and concentration. In the second stage, Chinese pop songs will be used as script development materials. By integrating students' life experiences, the story will evolve from getting to know each other and establishing relationships with the characters through physical performance and singing, culminating in a touching tale performed together at the Black Box.
e NTT has once again invited the renowned musical actor Wally GAU, who received high praise from students in the "NTT Power Night – Musicals Workshop," to design a brand-new course. is course will not only utilize classic Chinese pop songs to create scripts but also equip you with a range of practical skills, ensuring you are well-prepared and con dent. rough engaging lyrics and melodies, you'll have the opportunity to arrange and perform roles in the play. In the workshop, you'll practice essential singing skills such as projection, resonance, articulation, and breathing. Using your imagination and following the instructor's guidance, you'll learn how to identify your object of a ect and complete the inner motivation during the singing process. You'll be able to sing a touching story and songs with depth and emotion.
Music is the soul of tango, stirring the hearts of its audience. Alma Tango, with their unique blend of the rich bandoneon sound and a singer's deep, magnetic voice, will perform passionate expressions of love and longing, the hallmarks of tango music. e repertoire will include traditional tango classics and compositions by the father of Tango Nuevo, Astor Piazzolla, written during his time in France. Rarely performed pieces in Taiwan will also be featured. Audiences are invited to dance to Alma Tango's rhythms, transporting themselves to an Argentinian tavern and experiencing South American music's romance and wild energy.
