NPW celebrates success at its Annual General Meeting! Our Annual General Meeting was held on the 2nd November and it was really nice to see so many people attend both in person and online. The meeting was a celebration of NPW’s success and recognition of the hard work of NPW staff throughout the pandemic. The meeting was kicked off by Iqbal Vaza, our CEO who reminded members of the company’s vision of ‘Preparing Children for the Future!’ and shared how NPW staff dedicate both their time at work and outside of work to this cause. This was followed by highlighting how as an organisation - NPW has a unique standing in the sector. As a not-for-profit organisation that is owned and led by schools, NPW sets itself apart in this industry. The majority of the NPW board is made up of head teachers who work closely with the executive leadership team in directing the company to deliver cost-effective support services to schools. This mix of head teachers and business professionals working together,

Social Media, Web & Brand Corner Will using Google Ads help to reverse falling pupil numbers? With falling pupil rolls becoming commonplace we are being asked whether or not utilising Google Ads would help solve the issue. Google Ads can help you to rank on or near the top of the search engine, however their algorithm works based on keywords. Common keywords often come at a premium due to the level of competition. You can find some value in picking slightly more specific/niche keywords but neither option guarantees success. If you pick keywords that are too broad you will pay more but get greater exposure however, if you go for more specific keywords you are more likely to win the bid but will be reaching a much smaller audience. Places within schools are limited and are also only attractive to a very specific audience, For primary schools in particular, the majority of parents/carers that may consider sending their children to your school will be very local and so trying to attract pupils from across the other side of th borough would be wasted effort. Google Ads are excellent at promoting to a wide audience but would be less effective for a number of factors in promoting school places and so may not be worth the cost. We will be hosting a webinar on this in the near future. Keep an eye out for more details in next week’s edition.

Dear AUA, I have noticed that my PC is running really slowly, I work very fast and my PC can’t keep up. My PC is rather old. What would you
Dear AUA, I want to send out a Newsletter to parents and praise those students who have been awarded writer of the week, but my pesky DPO says that I can’t as it would constitute a breach, please help me…
recommend?
Hi Julie, this is a common problem when it comes to data protection, whilst it wouldn’t be advisable to share a newsletter with childrens names on, if you have sought permission from parents and you are limiting the data you are sharing (perhaps just first names and class names) then this shouldn’t be a problem. Data protection wasn’t implemented to restrict you from sharing the great achievements of your students.
Hello Frank, ultimately it comes down to your budget, a relatively low cost option is for you to update your PC from a sata hard disk to a Solid State Drive, the cost of this is relatively cheap but will provide you with a noticeable upgrade in performance, this will help extend the life of your device by a couple of years. Alternatively you can look at replacing the device itself. There are a number of great options available at the moment however, we would need to understand what you are using it for so that we can recommend the most appropriate device.
Dear AUA, I have made some updates to my school website today, but I’m still seeing the old version when I look at it online. What have I done wrong? Hi Shamina, this issue is almost certainly not to do with anything you have done wrong and instead it is to do with the browser cache. This problem can sometimes correct itself after 24 hours. Alternatively you can clear the cache in the settings of your browser which should solve the issue for you and load the latest version of the site.

How You Can Help to Save Newham City Farm With educational visits now firmly back on the school timetable, you may be shocked to learn that a decision has been taken to close Newham City Farm. The much- loved farm, opened in 1977, was home to a wide variety of animals, birds, bees, and other insects, bats, plant, and pond wildlife. For the children and young people in the borough, it provided a wide range of educational provision through family visits, SEND, SEMH and youth initiatives such as the Young Farmers Club and a volunteer and holiday scheme. It also provided our schools with assisted riding sessions, placements for work experience and a resource for our PRU’s. It was an excellent local, low-cost, low risk venue for outdoor educational visits. A variety of community, well-being and horticultural projects and biodiversity initiatives for the wider Newham community were also delivered at the site.
ISSUE 53 - PREPARING CHILDREN FOR A WORLD THAT DOESN’T YET EXIST
It’s fair to say that the farm offered life changing experiences and served as an essential community hub. The closure has had profound effects on the local community and is a huge loss. Both shocked and saddened by the decision, the Save Newham City Farm Campaign Team was formed. We are a group of passionate, committed, and skilled Newham community representatives from a diverse range of personal and professional backgrounds. Our mission is simple: we want to save the farm! We have many ideas about how we can work with the Council and interested partners to secure funding and resources and establish a viable business plan to reimagine, renovate, and reopen the farm as a community-led initiative. Nurseries, Schools and Colleges are a hugely important part of and vital link to the Newham community, and we need your help to save the farm ! Here’s how:
