Frequently Asked Questions
What type of assistance is available?
To make Nansemond-Suffolk Academy more accessible to a wider range of families, need-based tuition assistance is available to reduce the cost of tuition. Need is defined as the difference between the tuition rate for a student and the family’s ability to pay that rate. Tuition assistance awards do not have to be repaid. Merit-based and athletic scholarships are not offered.
Will my family qualify for assistance?
Every family is encouraged to apply for assistance if the tuition rate is an obstacle for your family. Eligibility depends on a number of factors, including income, savings, investments, assets, unusual expenses, family size and other financial obligations.
Will applying for assistance affect my child’s chance for admission? No. Financial information is confidential, and admission decisions are made independently.
Do I need to apply for tuition assistance each year?
Yes. Tuition assistance is a separate process from the admissions process. Families must submit an application each year in order for awards to be calculated.
How does NSA determine a family’s demonstrated financial need?
NSA uses an independent service, School and Student Services (SSS), through the National Association of Independent Schools. More than 2,400 schools subscribe to SSS for objective, third-party financial needs assessment to determine a family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses.
Does NSA offer a payment plan?
Yes, NSA offers several payment plan options in which tuition can be paid biannually or debited monthly.
Beyond the cost of tuition, what other expenses might a family have to pay?
While we attempt to make tuition all-inclusive, there are some additional fees that may apply to your student. Please visit our website for a complete list of applicable fees.

Applying for tuition assistance does not guarantee that a family will be eligible for an award nor does being eligible guarantee that there will be assistance available.
