Dear Friends,
After two years spent dealing with the fall-out from the pandemic, in 2022 local leaders focused their efforts on creating long-term, sustainable solutions and leveraging opportunities for our rapidly growing community.
Donors concerned about our economic future stepped up to provide the Tarrant To & Through Partnership (T3) with catalytic funding to create pathways to college and career success. Eight local universities joined the effort, pledging to bridge the financial gap for incomeconstrained students and their families.
Donors rallied around our community grant cycles, entrusting NTCF to invest $1.3 million in areas such as racial equity, land conservation, children and families, nonprofit capacity, animals and the arts. These grant cycles provided funding to 62 nonprofits across North Texas.
And when the City of Fort Worth presented the opportunity to provide permanent supportive housing for our most vulnerable residents, donors joined with local private foundations and raised $3 million to build 120 apartments for disabled Fort Worthians.
Everything we do is made possible by our wonderful fundholders. This year, we welcomed 22 new funds into the NTCF family and we were honored to develop legacy plans for new friends and old. All told, our donors’ generosity enabled the Foundation to grant a recordbreaking $44 million to high-performing nonprofit organizations in 2022.
Behind these numbers are stories of people who bring tremendous passion to their giving, leveraging their creativity and strategic thinking to help organizations deepen their impact. We are humbled by the positive change created by our donors’ charitable investments.
By working together, we are creating a better future for individuals and communities in North Texas. Thanks to you, we’re here for good, forever.

THE FOUNDATION FOR POSSIBILITY
Conserve, Contribute, Create
How a gift from the Bowden Opportunity Fund is helping turn corporate waste into resources for schools
In 2018, the Bowden Opportunity Fund granted over $1 million to 21 local nonprofits, the largest single grant cycle in North Texas Community Foundation’s history. One of those nonprofits, The Welman Project, was brand new. Their first-ever grant from the Bowdens helped set the trajectory for The Welman Project for years to come. Today, the nonprofit continues to fulfill its mission of
distributing surplus materials from local companies for creative reuse in Texas schools. In 2022, the organization expanded into “Dad’s Garage,” a makerspace for teachers and members of the community to meet, participate in workshops and more.
The Welman Project donated over $2.5 million in resources to 4,450 educators in 2022 alone.
“ The Bowden grant in 2018 enabled The Welman Project to hire its very first employee, allowing us to have regular hours of operation for the first time. That gift was the launching point to where we are today, open five days a week for teachers to receive free materials. We’re so grateful to Don for being an early believer in our work and taking a chance on helping a young organization grow.”

DON AND LINDA BOWDEN BELIEVED IN GIVING BACK. THIS PHILOSOPHY motivated them to donate a portion of their closely held stock prior to the sale of their successful business, Wholly Guacamole/Fresherized Foods, to establish a fund at North Texas Community Foundation. Today, their fund carries on their legacy of generosity.

THE FOUNDATION FOR GOOD
Supporting First Responders When They Need it Most
How one fund continues to ease the burden on our brave men, women and their families
To express his gratitude for Texas Safety Personnel, William Irvin Fleetwood established the Fleetwood Memorial Foundation in 1974. After years of providing financial assistance to injured or fallen first responders and their families, the foundation identified North Texas Community Foundation as the best partner to continue its mission. Since 2012, the fund at NTCF has continued to provide immediate financial assistance to ease the burden on our brave men, women and their families when they need it most.
In 2022, NTCF celebrated ten years of stewarding the Fleetwood Memorial Fund. Over the past decade, the fund has issued over $1.4 million in grants to more than 250 individuals and families across Texas. Because the fund is endowed, it will remain a vital source of assistance for first responder families forever.
“Over the past decade, NTCF has tirelessly helped support our mission by providing aid to hundreds of individuals and families across Texas. We’re excited to see the impact we can create in the decades to come.”
TOM CRAVENS, former board chair of the Fleetwood Memorial Foundation

Coming Together to Create a Brighter Future
Texans doing what we do best: helping each other
Following the news of the Uvalde school shooting in 2022, many looked for ways to help the shaken community heal and move forward. Local architecture firm Huckabee, under Chris Huckabee’s leadership, announced its plan to donate design services to build a brand new school for the Uvalde community.
However, the firm knew it would need support from its broader network to make this project a reality. With support from Texas-based companies HEB and Joeris,
the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation was founded with a fundraising goal of $50 million. An anonymous NTCF fundholder helped generate local support by providing $500,000 in matching funds. By the end of 2022, Fort Worth donors had contributed over $3 million toward the goal, the largest contribution of any Texas city. The school is set to welcome students by the end of 2024.
“For us, at the end of the day, it’s a story of how we come together in the state of Texas to take care of one another.”

Permanent Supportive Housing: A New Future
for Fort Worth’s Homeless Residents
Convening support to end chronic homelessness
Ten percent of Fort Worth’s homeless population is considered chronically homeless, meaning they meet certain criteria for duration of homelessness and have a disability. The city knew something needed to be done to provide serious, meaningful relief to this group of people in our community. With support from the American Rescue Plan Act, wheels were set in motion to build 120 units of permanent supportive housing in Fort Worth. In addition to providing housing to our chronically homeless population, this initiative will provide case managers and supportive services to help them maintain their independence.
In order to draw down public funding, a $2.5 million community match was required. NTCF fundholders came together with seven other foundations to raise the funds needed to kick off the project.
We’re thankful to the following foundations for providing matching support: Marilyn Brachman Hoffman Foundation, Amon G. Carter Foundation, Fort Worth Foundation, The Morris Foundation, Rainwater Charitable Foundation, Sid W. Richardson Foundation and The Ryan Foundation
“ The Community Foundation was instrumental in coordinating this funding and making this initiative a reality. This fund will help transform how our community responds to homelessness and will move us closer to realizing our vision of a vibrant community where everyone has a place to call home.”

FLORA BREWER RECEIVES INAUGURAL TRAILBLAZER AWARD
Fort Worth entrepreneur and civic leader Dr. Flora Brewer is the first recipient of NTCF’s Trailblazer Award. The honor recognizes the outstanding leadership and achievements of individuals who have driven innovation and impact in our community. Dr. Brewer has been at the helm of various housing projects bringing long-term, sustainable change for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. NTCF is proud to work alongside Dr. Brewer through The Flora Fund.
