i algo hemos aprendido del tiempo de pandemia es que hay que seguir adelante con los planes previamente establecidos, incluso con los de boda. Obviamente, si hay que hacer ajustes, se hacen. Eso sí, no se vale claudicar mucho menos en asuntos del amor. Nosotros en NUPCIAL hemos hecho algunos ajustes. f there’s one thing we have learned from this time of pandemic, it’s that you have to go ahead with the plans you have previously made, even with the wedding plans. Obviously, if adjustments need to be made, they get made. However, it’s not worth to give up and even less in matters of love. We at NUPCIAL have made some adjustments. We’ve launched this June issue in digital format, so that everyone – literally, everyone – learn that we in Puerto Rico continue to support our readers in their wedding plans. LAS FUNCIONES DEL PADRINO Sus deberes van mucho más allá de entregarle los anillos al novio. El padrino de boda cumple un papel sumamente importante en la vida de la pareja. LA GRAN MAYORÍA APLAZÓ SUS PLANES, OTRA PARTE DECIDIÓ CANCELAR MIENTRAS QUE UN MENOR NÚMERO OPTÓ POR REALIZAR CEREMONIAS VIRTUALES QUE COMPARTIERON CON SUS INVITADOS A TRAVÉS DE LAS REDES SOCIALES. ¿A CASO SERÁ ESTA LA NUEVA REALIDAD? as bodas virtuales no son una realidad de hecho. Salieron a la luz por la novedad pero en realidad no llevan lo que es la esencia de lo que es el rito del matrimonio. Existen, se han dado y puede ser que sigan celebrándose, pero por una necesidad particular. No pienso que la tecnología vaya a sustituir la emoción que se vive en una boda tradicional”, señala a NUPCIAL la coordinadora Yaska Crespo. Añade que de muchas esas parejas que optaron por esta modalidad continúan en planes de efectuar una boda tradicional. Por su parte, su homóloga Pao-Pei Irizarry ve de manera similar este fenómeno que se ha dado en todo el mundo. “Las bodas cibernéticas han tomado un poco de auge por la novedad, pero no es lo que le gusta al puertorriqueño. Esa dinámica de llorar de la emoción al ver la pareja mientras se casa, y después en la recepción felicitarla con abrazos, bailar y festejar hasta el cansancio no la sustituye nada”, considera.

Algunas medidas Aquellos que decidan casarse en los próximos meses tendrán que observar ciertas medidas para garantizar la seguridad de ellos, de sus invitados y del recurso humano que trabajará en el evento. “Una mesa que ubicaba hasta 10 personas ahora solo acomodará a cuatro y deben ir esparcidas por el espacio. No se recomienda el uso de manteles a menos que se contrate el servicio de desinfec-

They do exist, they’ve been done and it could be that they continue to be celebrated, but it’s because of a particular need. I don’t think technology will ever replace the emotion that’s lived in a traditional wedding”, coordinator Yaska Crespo told NUPCIAL. She adds that of the many couples that have opted for this approach are still planning a traditional wedding. On the other hand, her counterpart, Pao-Peil Irizarry sees this phenomenon, which has occurred all over the world, in a similar light. “Cyber weddings have been a hit because of the novelty aspect of it, but it’s not what Puerto Ricans like. That dynamic of crying with emotion at the sight of the couple as they get married, and then at the reception congratulating them with hugs, dancing and celebrating until exhaustion cannot be substituted by anything”, she considers. Some measure Those who decide to get married in the next few months will have to look closely into measures to ensure safety for themselves, their guests and the human resources that will work at the event. “A table that used to seat up to 10 people now can only accommodate 4 and they must be spread out in the space. The use of tablecloths is not recommended unless steam disinfection is contracted, which must be applied three hours before the start of the reception. Tables will not display any decorative

Cabe señalar que estas son unas recomendaciones preliminares, pues las entidades gubernamentales no se han pronunciado sobre el particular. Ante este panorama, ¿estarán los contrayentes dispuestos a casarse siguiendo un rigor establecido a medias o preferirán aplazar hasta que se retome cierta normalidad? “Las bodas son un evento social que la gente disfruta. Al ver esta incertidumbre, muchas parejas que se casaban en estos meses de verano decidieron cambiar de fecha, incluso algunas de fin de año. Los novios están claros en que quieren hacer su boda como han soñado y no necesariamente como lo dicte el gobierno”, sentencia Crespo. De grandes a pequeñas Todo tiende a señalar que las celebraciones con un gran número de invitados quedarán rezagadas, al menos en lo que se encuentra una vacuna para el Coronavirus. En su lugar, Irizarry entiende que se efectuarán festejos con no más de 50 personas. “Hay que marcar una tendencia y llevar a los novios a una nueva visión. Volveremos a las bodas pequeñas durante el próximo año y medio o hasta que los científicos den con una vacuna efectiva. Será necesario que las parejas provean a sus invitados de guantes y mascarillas. La situación nos obliga a simplificar”, entiende Pao-Pei. Esto va de la mano con una tendencia que muchas parejas han considerado incluso antes del COVID-19: las bodas tipo boutique. “Apelamos a esas parejas que desean interactuar con cada uno de sus invitados. Nuestros espacios le da la oportunidad de personalizar su evento en ambientes que ofrecen luz natural, vista al mar y una terraza al aire libre frente

From big to small Everything tends to indicate that celebrations with a large number of guests will lag behind, at least until a vaccine for Coronavirus is created. Instead, Irizarry understands that there will be celebrations with no more than 50 people still happening. “We must set a trend and bring the couple to a new vision. We will return to small weddings over the next year and a half or until scientists find an effective vaccine. It will be necessary that the couples provide their guests with gloves and masks. The situation forces us to simplify”, Paop-Pei understands. This goes hand in hand with a trend that many couples have considered even before COVID-19: boutique weddings. “We appeal to those couples who wish to interact with each of their guests. Our spaces give you the opportunity to personalize your event in settings that offer natural light, ocean views and an outdoor terrace facing the sea,” states Betsy Mujica, sales director of Serafina Beach Hotel. This type of celebration, ideal for a few guests, has its benefits for the bride and groom. “It simplifies the planning, the budget is directed to exactly what the couple wants in their wedding and not the excesses. In addition, planning is achieved in less time, they can give free rein to creativity when designing the style and the spaces (they can be non-traditional),

al mar”, establece Betsy Mujica, directora de ventas de Serafina Beach Hotel. Este tipo de festejo, ideal para pocos invitados, tiene sus beneficios para los contrayentes. “Simplifica la planificación, el presupuesto va dirigido a exactamente lo que la pareja desea en su boda y no a los excesos. Además, se logra planificar en menos tiempo, pueden dar rienda suelta a la creatividad al momento de diseñar el estilo y los espacios (pueden ser no tradicional), el servicio es más personalizado y, sobre todo, les da la oportunidad de realmente vivir experiencias y crear memorias con cada uno de sus invitados”, enumera Mujica. Solo la pareja A la par con los recientes acontecimientos se está gestando otra tendencia que resulta muy práctica: las bodas de dos. También conocidas como elopement weddings, las parejas van a determinada localidad, casi siempre frente al mar, y efectúan su enlace junto al oficiante y sin invitados. “En estos casos les asistimos con todos los detalles, desde comunicarlos con el ministro de bodas hasta ordenar el ramo de flores, algún arreglo y el bizcocho”, puntualiza la experta en hotelería. La figura del coordinador Indistintamente del tipo y el tamaño de la boda, en estos tiempos la figura del coordinador cobra más prominencia que nunca. “Hay que ajustarse a la nueva realidad. La gente siempre se va a casar, por eso debemos dejarnos llevar y observar qué pasará. Es necesario ser responsables con el cliente y no exponerlo. Hay que hablarle con claridad dentro de la información que se maneja”, considera Pao-Pei Irizarry. Por su parte, Yaska Crespo se ha mantenido orientando a sus clientes, pero son ellos quienes toman la decisión de posponer o de cancelar. Afortunadamente, en su caso, se ha dado lo primero. “Yo expongo los puntos, los mantengo informados, pero son las parejas las que toman la decisión de cuándo celebrar su boda”, puntualiza.

PROTOCOL REVIEW At the closing of this edition of NUPCIAL, the Association of Professional Event Coordinators of Puerto Rico (ACEP) was working on a protocol guide for when events are officially again allowed. “This guide aims to compile the input of professionals from each sector of the events industry on the island with recommendations and measures to be considered in the management of activities. We do not yet have the approval of the relevant local authorities to proceed. Therefore, we can’t take any action as an endorsed process. We must be responsible and cautious in our decision making. We wish them to be accurate measures that positively lean towards the enjoyment of the events while taking the due precautions, which is the main objective of the new normality in our industry”, reiterates Rafael Ramos, president. To this effort we’re adding a survey aimed at professionals of the events industry, as well as suppliers who provide their service. It seeks to obtain data that measures the economic impact of postponements and cancellations of local and destination weddings. This offering, one that is refreshing and very summery, is typical of a formal wedding”, establishes our interviewee, who is the owner of the restaurant Chef ’s Soul Kitchen and Wine, in Barranquitas, a municipality located in the heart of the island.

El aperitivo Para comenzar este festín culinario, el chef recomienda el queso empanado acompañado de salsa de guayaba. “Al empanarse, queda con una capa crujiente por fuera y muy cremoso por dentro. Para acompañarlo, he confeccionado una salsa de guayaba con especias. Estas le dan un buen balance entre lo dulce y lo picante. The appetizer To start this culinary feast, the chef recommends the breaded cheese accompanied with guava sauce. “When breaded, the cheese is left crusty on the outside while and very creamy in the inside. To accompany it, I’ve prepared a guava sauce with spices. These give it a good balance between the sweet and the spicy. La sopa El segundo curso es una crema de apio. Como dato interesante, este ingrediente es cultivado en su natal Barranquitas. “El apio se utiliza mucho en esta zona, incluso está lo que se conoce como la ‘Ruta gastronómica del apio’, que son un grupo de restaurantes que en su menú tienen platos confeccionados con este ingrediente. Esta crema tiene un nevado de carne ahumada y sprouts para decorar. La cebolla es el elemento que une todos los sabores y destaca el ahumado”, menciona Colón Mercado. The soup The second course is a cream of celery. As an interesting fact, this ingredient is cultivated in its native Barranquitas. “Celery is used a lot in this area, in fact, there is what’s known as the “Celery Gastronomic Route”, that consists of a group of restaurants that in the menu all have dishes made with this ingredient. This cream has a “snowing” of smoked meat and sprouts as garnish. The onion is the element that unites all the flavors and highlights the smokiness”, mentions Colón Mercado.

La ensalada Esta es una versión vegetariana del tradicional carpaccio italiano, cuyo ingrediente protagónico son las setas cultivadas en Aibonito, ciudad que ubica en las montañas de Puerto Rico. “Las setas están trozadas y combinadas con berro y almendras. La reducción de vino tinto le aporta una buena nota”, considera.
The salad This is a vegetarian version of the traditional Italian carpaccio, which has as main ingredient the mushrooms cultivated in Aibonito, city located in the mountains of Puerto Rico. “The mushrooms are chopped and combined with watercress and almonds. The red wine reduction contributed a good note”, he considers.

El plato principal La experiencia de cerca de 20 años en el quehacer gastronómico que posee Chef Francisco se pone de manifiesto en el plato principal. La estrella de este menú es el filete mignon acompañado de risotto cake. “La carne va sobre esta torta de risotto de setas Portobello, también cultivadas en Puerto Rico, que está crujiente por fuera y cremosa por dentro. En cuanto al filete, se confeccionó con queso Gorgonzola en una reducción de vino tinto y aceite de achiote”, describe Chef Francisco. The main dish The close to 20 years experience that Chef Francisco possesses inside the gastronomic scene puts itself as a manifesto in the main dish. The star of this menu is the filet mignon accompanied by risotto cake. “The meat goes on this locally cultivated Portobello mushrooms risotto cake, that’s crunchy on the outside and creamy in the inside. About the filet, it is concocted with Gorgonzola cheese in a red wine reduction and achiote oil”, describes Chef Francisco.

It’s one of the most used antioxidants in cosmetics since it’s benefits have been demonstrated and supported with clinical studies. Though it had been surrounded by some polemic because it was accused of staining the skin, the new generation dermocosmetic products have buried this myth. The key consists in employing stable and secure Vitamin C molecules with advanced formulas that mix with new generation active ingredients. Lightning treatment What would a flash treatment consist of in order to give the face luminosity? We’ve seen that Vitamin C is the active ingredient on which the care routine will be base on before a big important event, such as a wedding. It may be the case that it takes place imminently, with no time for a medium term treatment. In this case, the most effective format with which you may get the quickest and most visible results on the skin are ampoules, which are concentrates of active ingredients that enhance beauty. Piel limpia Los dermocosméticos son más eficaces si se aplican con la piel limpia. Ese debe ser el primer paso de todo protocolo facial. Una limpieza del rostro concienzuda debe emplear productos eficaces y respetuosos con el pH de la piel. Dos de los grandes olvidados son el cuello y el escote. Así que cuando limpies el rostro acuérdate de hacerlo también en estas zonas. Puedes optar por diferentes texturas y formatos según las necesidades de cada piel: agua micelar, espumas y leches, entre otros.

a combinación entre tus gustos y tus preferencias, junto a su experiencia y conocimientos, deben resultar en la mejor versión de ti. “La primera pregunta que le hago a la novia es cuál es el look que desea para la boda. Luego indago si el evento es de día, de tarde o de noche; si la ceremonia y la recepción son en interior o exterior. Estos son algunos de los factores que se toman cuenta para crear su apariencia”, señala a NUPCIAL la experimentada maquilladora y peluquera Griselle Rosario. Paso seguido, se hace un análisis de la piel. Pariendo del resultado es que seleccionan los productos de maquillaje, de manera que el día de la celebración perdure por más tiempo. “Se trata también de educar a la novia en cuanto a la importancia de la rutina de belleza. Las que tienen la piel grasa deben irla preparando para que ese día luzcan perfectas”, menciona nuestra entrevistada. ¿Blanco o crema? Un detalle que no se le de debe escapar al maquillador es preguntar cuál será el color del vestido de novia. “Si es blanco, el maquillaje debe realizarse en tonos plateados. En caso de que sea crema, se usan los que están dentro de las gamas de los dorados, bronce y ámbar. Todo debe verse en armonía”, detalla la experta. Conocer además cuánto maquillaje utiliza la clienta en su vida diaria es un indicador para establecer cuan cargada o liviana será la apariencia. “Si le gusta algo muy elaborado para la boda y no está acostumbrada, se sentirá sobrecargada y no estará satisfecha con el resultado”, comenta Rosario. Importante la prueba Recalca la maquilladora que realizarse la prueba de maquillaje y peinado es una parte esencial en el proceso de la planificación de la boda. Sin embargo, muchas casaderas no le dan la importancia que tiene. “Es fundamental que la novia tenga una idea clara de cómo se verá ese día. Muchas se preocupan tanto de otros aspectos de la boda que descuidan este detalle. Ten en cuenta las recomendaciones que una entrenadora personal certificada tiene para ti. “El tiempo para empezar a entrenar para lucir tonificada y más delgada el día de la boda depende de cómo se encuentre el estado físico de la novia. Pero igual, nunca es tarde para comenzar porque aunque la fecha esté cerca, algún resultado bueno obtendrá. Lo ideal sería de tres a seis meses antes, ya que se puede planificar el cambio en sus hábitos alimenticios y hacer un plan de ejercicios adecuado a su meta final. Lo mejor sería que los cambios que desea realizar para ese día resulten ser para el resto de su vida”, explica a NUPCIAL Ana Buitrago, experimentada entrenadora personal. Vital la ayuda profesional Cuando ya decidas realizar una rutina de ejercicios, es vital que te contactes con un entrenador personal, quien diseñará un régimen adecuado según tus necesidades. “Un entrenador físico capacitado debe ser quien preparare una rutina eficaz y supervise el entrenamiento para evitar lesiones. Su servicio también es recomendado por varias razones: se ve en la obligación de no fallar a los entrenamientos y la rutinas son enfocadas a aprovechar más el tiempo y trabajar directamente con lo que se debe. Además, va monitoreando el proceso y sabe cuándo ajustar los entrenamientos”, establece nuestra entrevistada. Variedad divertida Hacer ejercicios no es tan solo ir al gimnasio y hacer determinadas repeticiones en ciertas máquinas. Existe una gran variedad de clases y técnicas que complementan el esfuerzo. “Las máquinas se deben combinar con clases en las que se trabaje con la parte cardiovascular y con la fuerza muscular para bajar grasa y tonificar a la vez. Hay algunas como XcolatinbyJackie, Strong by Zumba, GUN-EX, Bootcamp y Athletix, entre otras, con las que se logra pasar el tiempo de ejercitarse divertidamente”, menciona Buitrago. in embargo, la franca comunicación, la comprensión y el respeto que se profesan fueron los aliados para sobrellevar esta etapa. “Nos conocimos en el gimnasio en el 2006. Siempre hablábamos de casarnos, pero no era posible porque era ilegal en los Estados Unidos. En el 2011 se legalizó el matrimonio gay en Nueva York, así que la posibilidad de casarnos se hizo real. Jonathan me propuso matrimonio en 2013 y un año después nos casamos”, recuerda Oswaldo. Se adelantan los planes Si bien es cierto que los planes estaban establecidos, también lo es que determinadas circunstancias familiares adelantaron los planes. “No teníamos pensado casarnos en julio, pero en abril de 2014 al padre de Jonathan le diagnosticaron que su cáncer era terminal y que tendría unos seis meses de vida. En siete semanas preparamos la boda”, cuenta a NUPCIAL el enfermero. Familia agrandada Con la relación ya establecida y sólida, deciden convertirse en padres. “La adopción era una de las opciones, pero decidimos crear nuestra familia por subrogación gestacional. El proceso fue un poco complicado. Primero tuvimos que elegir a la donante de óvulos. Como Oswaldo es dominicano y yo norteamericano elegimos a alguien que fuera estadounidense con descendencia latina. Contratamos una agencia de subrogación que encontró a nuestra portadora gestacional. Ella vive en Kansas, nosotros en Nueva York y la clínica quedaba en Connecticut. ¡Ya se imaginan la planificación que tomo!”, cuenta Jonathan, quien es abogado. Es así como se convierten en padres de Allan y de Owen, de cuatro años y 18 meses, respectivamente. “¿Qué valores de la crianza de ustedes están reforzando en los niños?”, queremos saber. “Desde que decidimos tener hijos lo más importante para nosotros es que sean felices y se conviertan en personas amables, que tengan un buen sentido de comunidad y de hacer el bien”, confiesa. Tiempos de pandemia Con el advenimiento del 2020 surge una emergencia de calibre mundial: la pandemia ocasionada por el desarrollo del COVID-19. El novel virus toca a la puerta del matrimonio Luciano-Owen, pues Oswaldo es enfermero de profesión. “La dinámica ha cambiado un poco. Jonathan está trabajando desde casa y yo voy

owever, the open communication, and the understanding and respect they share with each other were the allies to endure this stage. “We met at the gym in 2006. We always talked about getting married, but it wasn’t possible because it was illegal in the United States. In 2011, gay marriage was legalized in New York, so the possibility of getting married became real. Jonathan proposed to me in 2013 and a year later we got married,” Oswaldo recalls. Plans get pushed up While it is true that plans were in place, certain family circumstances also moved the plans up. “We didn’t plan on getting married in July, but in April 2014, Jonathan’s father was diagnosed with terminal cancer and he had about six months to live. We planned the wedding in seven weeks,” the nurse tells NUPCIAL. Expanding the family With the relationship already on solid ground, they decided to become parents. “Adoption was one of the options, but we decided to create our family by gestational surrogacy. The process was a little complicated. First we had to choose the egg donor. Since Oswaldo is Dominican and I’m American, we chose someone who was an American of Latino descent. We hired a surrogacy agency that found our gestational carrier. She lives in Kansas; we live in New York and the clinic was in Connecticut. You can imagine the planning it took!” says Jonathan. This is how they became parents of Allan and Owen, four years old and 18 months old, respectively. “Which of your values are you instilling in your children?” We wanted to know. “Since we decided to have children, the most important thing for us is that they are happy and that they become kind people, who have a good sense of community and to do good,” Jonathan reveals. Times of a pandemic With the arrival of 2020, a global emergency emerged: the pandemic caused by the development of COVID-19. The novel virus knocked on the door of the Luciano-Owen family, as Oswaldo is a nurse. “The dynamics have changed a little bit. Jonathan is working from home, and I go to the hospital every day. The childcare center closed because of the pandemic. Our super-dear nanny went to visit her daughter in Canada a week earlier and while she was there the border was

Nuestra superquerida niñera fue a visitar a su hija en Canadá una semana antes y en lo que estuvo allá cerraron la frontera, así que aún está por allá. Mami nos ayuda, pero ha sido difícil”, manifiesta el profesional de la salud. “¿Qué ajustes has tenido que hacer para protegerte y proteger a tu familia?”, preguntamos. “Sigo las reglas de protección personal que el hospital y el Centro de Control de Enfermedades (CDC) sugieren. Si tengo contacto con pacientes positivos a COVID-19, le dejo saber a Jonathan antes de llegar. Ya en casa entro directamente al baño, me quito la ropa y me doy una ducha... Casualmente acabo de recibir los resultados de los anticuerpos del COVID y los tengo. Es un sentido de alivio porque sé que ya tuve la enfermedad. Es lo más seguro para todos en el hogar pues también fueron expuestos. A principios de enero todos en la casa la pasamos mal con una ‘gripe’ que no tenía final”, recuerda. Contacto directo Oswaldo es gerente del departamento de educación y desarrollo profesional a enfermeros del hospital en el que trabaja. Es por ello que ha tenido un contacto directo con los estragos que ha causado el Coronavirus en Nueva York. “Soy el encargado de proveer educación a todos los enfermeros del hospital. Con la pandemia mi atención es entrenarlos para cuidar a los pacientes en ventilación mecánica. He tenido que adiestrar a cientos de colegas de otras áreas a manejar estas máquinas y a administrar los medicamentos necesarios para mantener a los pacientes cómodos durante su tratamiento”, cuenta a NUPCIAL. “¿Cuál ha sido la situación más difícil que como famil-

My mom helps us, but it’s been difficult,” says the healthcare professional. “What adjustments have you had to make to protect yourself and your family?” we asked. “I follow the personal protection rules that the hospital and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) suggest. If I have contact with patients positive with COVID-19, I let Jonathan know before I get home. I go straight into the bathroom, take off my clothes and take a shower... Coincidentally, I just got the results of the COVID antibodies and I have them. It’s a sense of relief because I know I’ve already had the disease. It is the safest thing for everyone in the home as they were also exposed. In early January everyone at home had a hard time with a ‘flu’ that had no end,” he recalls. Direct contact Oswaldo is manager of the nurse education and professional development department in the hospital where he works. That’s why he’s had direct contact with the ravages caused by coronavirus in New York. “I am in charge of providing education to all the nurses in the hospital. With the pandemic, my focus is to train them to take care of patients on ventilation. I have had to train hundreds of colleagues from other areas to operate this equipment and administer the medicines needed to keep patients comfortable during their treatment,” he tells NUPCIAL. “What has been the most difficult situation you have faced as a family during COVID-19 times and how have you managed it successfully?,” we inquired. “I remember one day I was running a training. In the 40 minutes it lasted, more than four patients died in the

Ahí me di cuenta de que la pandemia estaba afectando a mi hogar. Hablé con Jonathan y le reconocí que estaba más afectado de lo había pensado. Él estuvo de acuerdo. Ahora, si tengo un día fuerte en el hospital me quedo en mi oficina más tiempo hasta sentirme un poco mejor y hablo con los compañeros para quemar el estrés del día”, reconoce. “En términos de la relación de pareja, ¿cuán vital ha sido el apoyo de tu esposo para sobrellevar la carga del trabajo?”, cuestionamos. “Ha sido 100 por ciento vital. Antes de la pandemia, Jonathan me preguntaba a diario cómo me había ido en el trabajo. Ahora no lo hace tanto y creo que es porque no quiere que reviva las experiencias del día. Él deja que sea yo que le cuente. Creo que lo hace para darme ese espacio que es necesario”, entiende. “¿Qué consejo le darías a las familias que están pasando por una situación similar a la de ustedes?”, inquirimos. “Que no están solas. Si creen que necesitan ayuda, por favor búsquenla. Muchas organizaciones tienen programas de asistencia al empleado que proveen consejería y recomendaciones para lidiar con el estrés que produce lo que está pasando”, puntualiza.

Before the pandemic, Jonathan asked me every day how it went at work. Now he doesn’t do it that much and I think it’s because he doesn’t want me to relive the experiences of the day. He lets me tell him. I think he does it to give me the necessary space,” he says. “What advice would you give to families who are going through a situation similar to yours?” we inquired. “They are not alone. If you think you need help, please get it. Many organizations have employee assistance programs that provide counseling and recommendations for dealing with the stress that comes with what’s going on,” he says.

La doctora Carmita Laboy brinda a los lectores de NUPCIAL una serie de consejos infalibles para que mantengan esa llama del amor viva. Anoten y pongan en práctica Para que el aspecto romántico de la relación de pareja continúe tan intenso como en los primeros tiempos, Laboy recomienda: Crear dopamina y oxitocina La dopamina es el neurotransmisor responsable de la motivación, la atención, el enfoque, la felicidad, la alegría, la pasión, la atracción y el deseo (incluyendo el sexual). En fin, de esa sensación de bienestar. Es necesaria para el emparejamiento, la copulación y la perpetuación de la especie. ENSALADA / SALAD ENSALADA DE AGUACATE Y MANGO CON VINAGRETA DE PARCHA Ingredientes: Para la ensalada • 8 tazas de lechugas mixtas • 1 mango maduro grande, rebanado • 2 aguacates pequeños, rebanados Para la vinagreta de parcha • 6 cucharadas de pulpa de parcha concentrada, descongelada • 3 cucharadas de chalotes (shallots), picaditos • 4 cucharadas de vinagre sherry • 2 cucharaditas de mostaza Dijon • 6 cucharadas de aceite de oliva • Sal y pimienta a gusto Procedimiento: Para la ensalada En un recipiente grande coloca las lechugas mixtas, añade 1/4 taza de la vinagreta y mezcla bien. Divide en cuatro platos. Coloca el mango rebanado y el aguacate de manera decorativa y sirve. Para la vinagreta En un envase pequeño mezcla los primeros cuatro ingredientes. Añade gradualmente el aceite de oliva. Sazona a gusto con sal y pimienta. AVOCADO AND MANGO SALAD WITH PASSION FRUIT VINAIGRETTE Ingredients: For the salad • 8 cups mixed greens • 1 large ripe mango, sliced • 2 small avocados, sliced For the passion fruit vinaigrette • 6 tbsp concentrated passion fruit pulp, thawed • 3 tbsp shallots, chopped • 4 tbsp sherry vinegar • 2 tsp Dijon mustard • 6 tsp olive oil • Salt and pepper to taste For the salad In a large bowl, combine the mixed greens, add 1/4 cup of the vinaigrette and mix well. Divide into four plates. Place the sliced mango and avocado as a garnish and serve. For the vinaigrette In a small bowl combine the first four ingredients. Gradually, add the olive oil. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Esa que encuentro en el libro de un autor que se tomó el tiempo de confeccionar y probar las recetas para luego publicarlas. Soy fiel creyente de la academia, por eso siempre busco fuentes confiables como primera opción y consulto en mi biblioteca. No hay nada como tocar y pasar las páginas de un buen libro de recetas y su contraparte digital no genera jamás la misma satisfacción. La investigación en los libros de cocina para mí siempre será más gratificante y resulta una fuente de mayor conocimiento. El Internet lo utilizo como un complemento”, señala nuestra entrevistada. BEBIDA / BEVERAGE SANGRÍA DE MANGO Y MELOCOTÓN Ingredientes: • 1 botella de vino blanco, preferiblemente Pinot Grigio • 1 taza de vodka de china • 1/2 taza de licor de china • 4 tazas de jugo de mango • 4 tazas de néctar de melocotón • 1/2 taza de azúcar • 2 tazas de pedacitos de mango • 1 taza de rebanadas de melocotón Procedimiento: Une todos los ingredientes, menos las frutas, en un recipiente grande. Mezcla todo bien, hasta que el azúcar se disuelva. Embotella y enfría. Sírvelo en copas grandes y adorna con pedazos de frutas. Rinde cerca de 12 porciones.
MANGO AND PEACH SANGRIA Ingredients: • 1 bottle white wine, preferably Pinot Grigio • 1 cup orange vodka • 1/2 cup orange liqueur • 4 cups mango juice • 4 cups peach nectar • 1/2 cup sugar • 2 cups diced mango • 1 cup peach slices Mix all the ingredients, except the fruit, in a large bowl. Stir well, until the sugar is dissolved. Transfer it to a bottle and chill. Serve in large glasses and garnish with the fruit. Yields around 12 portions.

Excelente anfitriona Quienes conocemos a María del Pilar sabemos lo magnifica anfitriona que es. Se esmera por cuidar a cada detalle de las celebraciones que realiza en su hogar. BLUE CHEESE DIP AND CRUDITÉS Ingredients: For the dip • 1/2 cup sour cream • 1/4 cup cottage cheese • 1/4 cup mayonnaise • 1 /4 cup blue cheese, shredded • 1 /2 cup blue cheese, shredded (additional) • 2 or 3 tbsp milk For the crudités • Peppers • Celery • Baby carrots • Broccoli • Cherry tomatoes In the food processor, combine the sour cream, the cottage cheese, mayonnaise and 1/4 cup of blue cheese. Mix everything until smooth. Add the rest of the blue cheese and soften with milk as needed, until desired consistency is achieved. P L ATO P R I N C I PA L / M A I N C O U R S E PECHUGAS DE PAVO RELLENAS Ingredientes: • 1 lata (14.5 onzas) de tomates cortados en cubitos, sin escurrir • 1 1/4 tazas de queso mozzarella, desmenuzado y dividido • 1 /4 taza de albahaca fresca, picada • 1 paquete de seis onzas de relleno de pan para pavo o pollo • 8 mitades de pechuga de pavo deshuesadas y sin pellejo, pequeñas (2 libras) • 1 /3 taza de aderezo de pimiento rojo asado con queso parmesano Procedimiento Precalienta el horno a 350°F. Para preparar el relleno, combina los tomates con su líquido, 1/2 taza del queso mozzarella desmenuzado, la albahaca y la mezcla seca para relleno, revolviendo solo hasta que se haya humedecido. Coloca dos mitades de pechugas de pavo en una bolsa plástica de cierre hermético para congelar de tamaño grande. Golpéalas con un rodillo o un mazo para carne, hasta que tengan 1/4 pulgada de espesor. Repite el proceso con el resto de las pechugas, poniéndolas de dos en dos en la misma bolsa. Pon las pechugas aplastadas, con la parte lisa hacia abajo, sobre una tabla para cortar grande. Unta las pechugas con la mezcla del relleno. Enrolla cada mitad de pechuga de pavo, comenzando por el lado más estrecho, lo más apretadamente posible para encerrar el relleno. Asegúralas con palitos de madera. Ubica las pechugas en un molde para hornear de 13 x 9 pulgadas, con el lado del cierre hacia abajo. Vierte el aderezo de forma pareja sobre ellas. Hornea durante 40 minutos. Espolvoréalas con los 3/4 de taza de queso restante y regresa al horno por cinco minutos más o hasta que el queso se haya derretido y el pavo esté bien cocido.

STUFFED TURKEY BREASTS Ingredients: • 1 can (14.5 ounces) of diced tomatoes, undrained • 1 1/4 cups of mozzarella cheese, shredded and divided • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped • 1 six-ounce packet of bread filling for turkey or chicken • 8 boneless, skinless turkey breast halves, small (2 pounds) • 1/3 cup roasted red pepper dressing with parmesan cheese Preheat the oven to 350°F. To make the filling, combine the tomatoes with their liquid, ½ cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese, basil and the dry stuffing mixture, stirring only until moistened. Place two halves of turkey breasts in a large resealable freezer plastic bag. Pound them with a rolling pin or a meat mallet until they are ¼ inch thick. Repeat this with the rest of the breasts, putting them in pairs in the same bag. Place the flattened breasts, with the smooth part down, on a large cutting board. Spread the breasts with the filling mixture. Roll each half of turkey breast, starting on the narrower side, as tightly as possible to keep the filling inside. Secure them with toothpicks. Place the breasts in a 13” x 9” baking pan, with the closed side down. Pour the dressing evenly over them. Bake for 40 minutes. Sprinkle with the remaining ¾ cup cheese and put them back in the oven for five more minutes or until cheese has melted and the turkey is cooked through.

TARTA DE NUTELLA® CON MERENGUE Ingredientes: • 1 taza de galletas Graham molidas • 3 cucharadas de mantequilla derretida • 1 1/2 tazas de Nutella® • 2 claras de huevo, grandes • 1/4 cucharadita de crémor tártaro • Una pizca de sal • 1/4 taza de azúcar granulada Procedimiento: Precalienta el horno a 350º. En un recipiente mediano une las galletas molidas y la mantequilla. Presiona en el fondo y en los lados de un molde rectangular para tartas de 11 x 7 pulgadas. Hornea de siete a 10 minutos o hasta que la base de galletas esté dorada (vigila de cerca pues el tiempo dependerá del horno y del tipo de molde). Retira y deja enfriar sobre una rejilla de alambre. Una vez fría, añade la Nutella®. Esparce bien. En el tazón de la batidora, une las claras con el crémor tártaro y la sal. Bate a velocidad alta hasta que se comience a formar una espuma, baja la velocidad y añade el azúcar. Cuando esté unida, sube la velocidad a alta y continua batiendo hasta formar picos firmes. No batas más. Coloca el merengue en una manga pastelera con punta grande de estrella y, de manera uniforme cubre la tarta. Hornea por 10 minutos o hasta que la cubierta de merengue tenga un lindo color dorado.
NUTELLA® CAKE WITH MERINGUE Ingredients: • 1 cup crumbled graham crackers • 3 tbsp melted butter • 1 1/2 cups Nutella® • 2 egg whites, large • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar • A pinch of salt • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Preheat oven to 350º. In a medium bowl, mix the crumbled crackers and butter. Press on the bottom and sides of an 11” x 7” rectangular baking pan. Bake for seven to 10 minutes or until the cracker crust has a golden color (keep a close eye on the time, since this will depend on the oven and the type of baking pan.) Remove and let it cool on a wire rack. Once it’s cool, add the Nutella®. Spread well. In the mixer bowl, combine the whites with the tartar cream and salt. Whisk at high speed until a foam starts to form, slow down and add the sugar. When combined, increase the speed to high and continue to beat until firm peaks form. Stop whisking. Place the meringue in a pastry sleeve with a large star tip and cover the cake evenly. Bake for 10 minutes or until the meringue topping has a nice golden color.

stablecer una comunicación efectiva y conocer en detalle lo que cada uno gana por su cuenta es crucial. Como no solo se vive de amor, es mejor tener las cuentas claras. Por eso conviene que se pregunten, y respondan con toda honestidad, si alguno aporta más que el otro y si cuentan con alguna reserva de dinero. Además, necesitan establecer la lista de deudas mensuales y quién decidirá las compras. De igual forma, es justo conocer las prioridades que tengan como pareja y como individuos. Mientras más intereses comunes tengan, menos dificultades tendrán para convivir. Ingresos versus gastos Después de haber analizado estas premisas, comiencen a elaborar un presupuesto (ingresos versus gastos) y a definir metas a corto y largo plazos. Una vez lo tengan, deben ajustarse a él. Luego, se debe revisar en común y mutuo acuerdo cada seis meses o anual. Algunas sugerencias: • AMBOS SUELDOS PUEDEN IR EN UNA CUENTA COMÚN – La pareja acuerda “en pareja” cómo gastar el dinero. The more interests in common you have, the fewer challenges you’ll have living together. Income versus expenses After analyzing these principals, start to develop a budget (income versus expenses) and define short- and long-term goals. Once you have it, you should stick to it. Then you should review it together and agree to it every six months or yearly. Some suggestions: • B OTH SALARIES COULD BE DEPOSITED IN A JOINT BANK ACCOUNT - The couple agrees together on how to spend the money. However, each one must reserve a portion of his or her salary, in a separate account, to spend on whatever they want. •A CKNOWLEDGE THE EFFORT – Even if there is one who does not contribute financially to the household, the one who does must recognize that the other person is saving money to the household with his or her effort and work.
