What is it about the word “mammogram” that scares so many women? Is it that they could find out they have breast cancer, or that the exam may be uncomfortable or unfortunately painful for some. The other reason could be that they communicated with someone who had a bad experience and think that is going to happen to them. What this could lead to is the one woman who really needs to get a mammogram does not go. The key is to find things as early as possible. The American Cancer Society current recommendations are that a women get a baseline mammogram at the age of 40. The old guidelines were age 35. This is a very important topic to discuss

YOUR BREAST POSSIBLE HEALTH with your doctor. There are many factors that determine if you may be at a higher risk. I have been in the radiology/mammography field for over 20 years now. I have walked many women through their first mammogram. The key to a good mammogram is communication. You have to communicate with the technologist that is performing your exam. Let them know what you are feeling. If it hurts tell them. “Do not be afraid to speak up.” This is your body, and if you work together you will make it a positive experience. Then you can tell everyone the positive side of the exam to encourage more women to have it done. Jeri A. Graham R.T.(R ) M
MAKE SURE YOU STREEEEEEEETCH FOR YOUR WORK OUT! If you work out, lift weights, run or participate in any type of sporting event, you need to know the most important word in exercise. That word is stretch! It is important that you stretch and warm up before you start any physical event. Stretching strengthens joints, helps in the prevention of injuries and it feels good! If you stretch and warm up, you can help prevent muscle tears and strains. You want to get your circulatory and respiratory systems up and running and you want to get blood and oxygen flowing to your muscles. You wouldn’t jump into your car in freezing temperatures and just start it up and go ... it needs to warm up just like your body! Start off slow by walking then break into a light jog. Swing your arms, do shoulder circles, work your neck muscles and stretch your legs. Give your body the chance to warm up and it will help you perform better as well as protect your body from possible injury. Like a quick start, a quick stop isn’t good for your body either. Cooling off is as important as warming up! If you take the time to stretch at the end of your workout or sporting event, you can help prevent soreness the next day and in time increase your overall flexibility. After a workout, your heart is still pumping away and your muscles are warmed up and supple. If you take the time to hold a static stretch or two for a few minutes, your entire body will cool off properly and be ready the next time you ask it to perform.

what is BPH?
and what does it have to do with my PrOSTaTe!
The Prostate Gland ... just typing those words Once again, there are a few drugs that makes my stomach jumpy. It wreaks havoc among help but there is no flat-out cure. Doctors say men and most refuse to talk about it or see a there are a few things to do that can help you keep doctor if something feels a little funny “down there”. your prostate healthy .... a) Watch what you eat. One of the first things a doctor will prescribe is by Paul Allen an alpha-blocker medication which relaxes the muscles in the bladder. This usually helps and improves urinary flow. There are also a few drugs that will actually shrink the prostate and reduce the risk of BPH. There are new procedures being used every year with each less likely to cause the same side effects as TURP. A condition that is much worse is prostatitis where, along with urineflow problems, sufferers have pain in their testicles, penis, groin and lower back area. If that isn’t enough, ejaculations feel like electrocutions.

HEALTHY TIPS! • The saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” isn’t just a kid’s limerick. According to studies done on men and women between the ages of 45 and 74, people who ate the most apples and grapes coughed less and had less phlegm .... a common sympton of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The fruits have a high concentration of fiber and flavonoids and they have anti-inflammatory properties. • Every year about 700,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke in the USA. Over 30% of these people die, making stroke the third leading cause of death in the country. Women account for about 6 in every 10 stroke deaths. You can get a carotid ultrasound exam to take a look at your carotid arteries. The exam is painless and inexpensive .... what are you waiting for? • 64% of American adults favor legalizing the purchase of prescription drugs from Canada and elsewhere abroad. The drug industry says it should not happen as they will not be able to regulate safety and secure regular supplies. Many people say they want this made legal, but only 9% of Americans have actually purchased prescription drugs from outside the country. Today, Americans have the right to travel into Canada and bring back a 90-day supply of prescription medicines for their own use. • A new study shows that 38 million baby boomers (approximately half ) are experiencing some type of hearing loss. Doctors are actually blaming it on loud rock and roll music and early earphones that were used in the 1960’s.
• I know you want to look good but if you go to a tanning salon make sure you know that the ultraviolet rays from a tanning bed may increase your risk of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. They can also cause burns and premature aging. Why not try a self-tanning lotion instead? If you spend a lot of time outside, make sure you use sunblock. • Getting a good night’s sleep is very important. When you go to sleep at night, blood pressure typically drops 15% to 30% and your heart rate can drop as much as 30%. This has a positive effect the next day and gives your body time to regenerate. • In a recent study done by Emory University in Atlanta, 63% of the 514 people asked said that kissing is a mode of transmission for HIV/AIDS, only 13% said that condoms were an effective prevention and 52% said that a vasectomy provided protection. Come on people if you can get it up .... cover it up! • No single food can prevent cancer and keep you healthy but here are a few that can’t hurt: broccoli is a good one as those “little green trees” build bones, fight birth defects and lessen cancer risks .... Pumpkins are rich in carotenoids and they help to decrease the risk of heart disease. They also may play a role in improving SPF of skin .... Blueberries can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and help brain function... Yogurt helps to build and preserve healthy bones. • Here’s a fact that will make you think twice .... one in two women and one in four men age 50 and older will have an osteoporosisrelated fracture in their lifetime without prior warning. There are ways to screen for Osteoporosis and if you are close to the age of 50, you should look into getting a check up.

I HATE WRINKLES! If you are over the age of 40, you have probably uttered those words more than once! Wrinkles are a natural part of aging. As we get older, our skin gets thinner, drier and less elastic .... thus wrinkles are formed. Folds, ridges and creases are created in numerous ways including sun damage, smoking, poor hydration and habitual facial expressions. The forehead is the place most likely for skin to wrinkle, but as we grow older skin on cheeks, necks, hands, chest and arms all start to wrinkle. There are many ways to get rid of wrinkles with the most common being injections of Botox. This neurotoxin protein is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botilinum and is manufactured by a corporation named Allergan. The drug is also used in treating migraine headaches and cervical dystonia. On May 1, 2009, the FDA approved a new wrinkle treatment called Dysport (formerly known as Relixin). It is only the second drug approved as a wrinkle treatment, is made from the same active ingredient as Botox and is administered via an injection just like Botox. 97% of all Dysport study participants noticed an improvement of forehead wrinkles within seven days and the treatment lasted more than 13 months. However, if injections into your forehead isn’t what you are looking for, a recent study done by Yale University stated that 90% of wrinkles and bags have nothing to do with “Father Time”. They are caused by not eating properly and not taking care of your skin correctly. There are numerous things you can do to prevent and/or repair wrinkles and here are a few suggestions: a) The best skin rejuvenators come from the phytonnutrients that are found in fruits and vegetables. If you add one teaspoon of concentrated powdered “greens” to your morning juice, it will greatly help reduce wrinkles by reducing the amounts of acids that help create wrinkles.
July 2009 • nuYou
B) Egg yolks are loaded with lutein and zeaxanthin that are proven to strengthen skin cells and that is a key step in sealing in moisture. Research shows that if you can fit one/two eggs into your daily diet, your overall skin moisture can increase by 60%. C) Studies at the University of Kentucky say that if you can find the time to close your eyes for twenty minutes every day and concentrate on nice, steady, easy breathing .... you will open up tiny blood vessels (capillaries) and increase the amount of nutrients and oxygen to your skin. D) European research states that taking a brisk one-mile walk once a week can help your skin, as well as your overall body. Exercise not only boosts your body’s production of growth hormones, it lowers your production of damaging cortisol and adrenalin. Exercise also helps stimulate the growth of new skin cells. e) Use olive oil when you cook in place of butter or lard. Olive oil is a healthy monounsaturated fat and rich in compounds that strengthen and protect skin. F) Last (but certainly not least) a Scottish study found that people who made love four times a week look much younger than they actually are! Research says that physical intimacy boosts the production of anti-aging, feel-good hormones like endorphins and oxytocin and increases the flow of blood throughout the body, thus helping your skin and reducing wrinkles. There are numerous creams and gells you can buy to help fight wrinkles and they all can help. The key is to keep your skin moisturized, try not to frown or squint all the time, eat a proper diet, don’t smoke and stay out of the sun as much as possible. Those sound great but I gotta admit, I sure like the way the Scottish think! Paul Allen

LOVE IS IN THE HAIR!
by Debi Cianci
Welcome to the “Nu-est”, koolist and most informative magazine in the State of Florida! Hello my name is Debi and I will be your “Hair Icon” to let you know all the things you need to know about hair. Now that we are getting into the summer, hot and humid months, I have some great tips that you will use all summer long! My first little goodie is an amazing piece of info that you won’t believe .... always have a dryer sheet in your purse. Why?? You can get rid of the frizzy’s just by using the dryer sheet like a comb or brush though your hair. It’s like magic. This is for all types of hair and it also has a second use - you can wipe it on your skin if you don’t have any lotion. I’m telling you, it’s the best ever product made! Most of us color our hair and we all know by shampooing every day we dull the shine of the fresh color. I have found a product line called “Hair Detailers” and it is a dry shampoo and hair refresher. Now you don’t have to wash your hair daily and it will still be clean and smell great. Plus you can use this product at the gym or when ever you need to re-fresh your hair during the day. Check them out at www.hairdetailers.com. For everyone that has any blonde in their hair and likes to swim in chorine pools, you may get a little “green” tint in your hair. This is very scary, unless you are dating Kermit the Frog! If this isn’t the exact way you want to “go green”, here is a simple solution ..... apply lemon juice on the green hair, add a little baking soda and clarifying shampoo .... presto .... your beautiful blonde hair will come back to life! You will also need to reconstruct with a good conditioner the next time you shampoo.
Hotter summer months want us to break out in new hair styles and that usually means shorter hair. One of these new looks is called a disconnected hair cut and that means long in front and shorter in the back. The cut also features texture at the ends and the top crown area. There are numerous ways and lengths you can apply this style and working with your face shape is ultra important. The correct haircut will use angles around the face area to add accents or to hide features that are not so flattering. A great stylist will use your features to brighten your hair style and color hi-lights. Communication between you and your stylist can make for a good “Hair Marriage”. Don’t forget to tell your stylist what you are looking for and what you are trying to achieve! Let’s talk about hair jewelry and head bands. Anyone at any age can wear these products and summer is a great time to show them off! Remember if you are younger, you can Green Jeweled Hair Stick found for go a bit wild or you can $15.99 at www.longhairgirl.com look more mature with the right acessories. The same goes for you older ladies. These items can give you a conservative look, like a nice hair band that pulls back your hair or you can get a wild look with thicker bands that feature bold prints. The correct hair jewelry and/or head band should depend Red Jelly Ring Headband found for on the thickness and style $7.99 at www.tanojewelry.com of your hair as well as that overall look you are trying to obtain. Well, that’s it for this month. Make sure you take care of your hair!

Why me? A compelling look at breast augmentation and how to get great results. Thousands of women in the United States and worldwide undergo the alluring and sometimes controversial breast enhancement surgery. In the United States alone, over 3 million women have already had the surgery. Originally developed by Dr. Radovan and others in the late 60’s, the idea of a breast implant was based on a procedure to expand skin for reconstructive purposes - just like a pregnant woman stretches her belly when she is pregnant. It made perfect sense to put this bag of water behind the breast tissue and just make it look larger. The trick was, use something that expands easily enough and above all is safe. Silicone by now was a well known entity in medicine. In fact, so many daily used products, have silicone in them and range from your regular glass, the straw you use to drink, syringes, cardiac pacemakers and a multitude of other products Silicone is inert and safe. So the water filled implant with a silicone outer shell was the perfect choice. So why the surgery? Central to a woman’s identity are her breasts! They are something that she can legally promote to the world at large and show off her femininity in a fun way. It is exciting to see how much women really benefit from the boost of their self esteem through a relatively simple process of breast augmentation. Self confidence, happiness, playfulness and better fitting and feeling clothes plus the fun of being noticed by both men and women, are just some of the many great outcomes. So how to get the best results? Enhance your breasts naturally by making smart choices. You want them to look good, you want them to be the right proportion, and they must be soft. So here is the formula that I see works exceptionally well: First and foremost, since there are so many doctors out there claiming to perform plastic surgery, only go to a surgeon that is specifically Board Certified in Plastic Surgery. They have received the proper training and are officially credentialed by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. July 2009 • nuYou
Then look for experience, reputation, referrals, and to the office staff. All are the first clues you want to look for, especially the welcoming reception you get during your visit. This typically reflects how all future treatments will occur. Finally, the surgery choices: Most patients are best suited through an armpit approach using special cameras during surgery. Round, smooth saline implants from the company Mentor, placed under the muscle is a common and safe approach. Since there are anatomical differences as well as personal preference, you do have other options that may benefit you better and these include: silicone vs saline, smooth vs textured, round vs tear drop, above vs below the muscle. And the other incision choices include under the breast, through the nipple or through the belly button. Since our philosophy is “It’s All About You”, we believe that you should choose what you want and what is right for you. You will know this after good explanations and considerations as the surgical team listens to your desires and helps you with the first decision: size. Communication is key. Breast enhancement surgery is all about emotion – feeling good about your new look. So make the right choice, get educated, find the right doctor and experience the joys of enhancing your femininity. Bart rademaker, M.D. Medical Director of Rejuva Med Spa and Center for Plastic Surgery Board Certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery Over 10 years of experience in the Tampa Bay area Expert to various media outlets Trained at Mayo Clinic and Medical College of Wisconsin Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for humanitarian endeavors

BY DINO Hello darlings ..... Spring and Summer are here and it’s time to look your best! The warm weather means more skin, more time outside and sexy, sexy looks! Let’s look at the hot fashions hitting the streets of Central Florida! Short dresses that feature bright colors and bold prints are definitely the in thing. No more browns and greys .... it’s time to be bold and make a statement. Wider, longer line skirts and wider shoulder lines - that’s the statement you want to make. This is a change from the everyday silhouette look. No more fashions that only look good on ultra-skinny, 98 pound, flat chested ladies .... No! .... today you want to be loud, proud and vibrant. Painted on colors using wide brushstrokes create a kaleidoscope of colors and choices that make you look exciting and happy! Blue is an important color this summer along with greens and lavenders. Halter neck dresses show off the sensual part of a woman and .... of course .... you must accessorize with matching purses, scarfs, shoes, earrings and necklaces. Don’t be afraid to be seen and mix and match those colors as much as you want. Make sure you always look your best ..... kisses and hugs!

TASTE, FASHION & FUN! To benefit The Safety Harbor Museum It was a beautiful evening on June 12, 2009 and a good crowd was on hand at Taste Cafe in Safety Harbor for a benefit to raise money for the Safety Harbor Museum. The night featured music by Ed Smith, a wine tasting and beer sampling courtesy of GOS Distributors and Florida Micro Beverages, food by Taste Cafe and a fashion show presented by Christina J, Water Sister Dry Goods, Ciao Bella, The Galleria and Lace Lingerie. Water Sister Dry Goods (who specialize in natural fiber and organic cotton goods) started off the fashion show with models Lynn, Dana and Erin. I loved the accents that included an umbrella and hat. Dana also creates a line of jewelry that is simply beautiful. Christina J was next up and they featured models Reccia, Dawn and NuYou Magazine’s own Nancy. Not to be biased, but I fell in love with Nancy’s dress and she looked fantastic! Christina J’s have a great selection of clothing and accessories. The Galleria was third up and models Norma Jean and Jean did a nice job, but Jody and three-year-old Sophia stole the show! The Galleria features clothing, artwork and furniture. Ciao Bella (also known as the
“bling-bling” store) featured Bonnie, Maureen and Jackie and they looked fabulous, especially Maureen and her green/purple dress. Last but certainly not least, was Lace Lingerie and they brought the “A team” to the show as models Ashley #1, Ashley #2 and Amanda looked fantastic wearing sleepwear, stockings, garters and robes. Amanda was a picture of beauty in her black robe and tiger print outfit. Lace Lingerie features sleepwear, sexy lingerie, maternity wear and has a vintage section for the “pin up girl” look. NuYou Magazine would like to thank Robin and Michelle Hirschberg for hosting this benefit and if you would like more information on the Safety Harbor Museum, please go to www. 6 WAYS TO LOOKDESPITEGREAT THE ECONOMY 1
The first thing to do is get a new, trendy, styled haircut. Yes, this might cost a few bucks (take the time to shop around as there are thousands of hairdressers in the Tampa Bay area) but it will be money well spent. A new haircut gives you not only a new “look” but an entire new “outlook”. If you think you look good and feel hip, your entire mood will change! The good things in life will be better and the bad things not so bad. A new hairstyle will last for months and pay huge dividends!
4 Vogue-16- Gladiator Platform Heel NowDiscountShoes.com $22.99
2
Next on the list is buy a new pair of shoes. The hottest shoe for 2009 is one that features a “gladiator strap” at the front. It doesn’t matter where you buy or how much you spend ... just make sure they are trendy and match your overall wardrobe.
3
Don’t be proud and stuffy. There are wonderful bargains that can be found at discount and outlet stores like TJ Maxx, Ross, Bealls Outlet Stores and Wal-Mart. Taking bargain hunting even another step .... check out thrift stores and even Goodwill Outlets. You’d be surprised how many “uppity rich folks” have been hit hard money-wise and have sold items or consigned clothing to thrift shops.
Plaid Square Scarf UrbanOutfitters.com $16.99
French Saiing Cap UrbanOutfitters.com $34.00
Take your current clothes and mix in new accessories. That old dress can come alive with a new scarf, shoes, necklace or gloves. You don’t have to spend a lot on these items as gorgeous costume jewelry is easy to find. You will be shocked the way that old outfit looks brand new with a little extra help!
5
This goes with #4 above .... if you have clothing or jewelry you don’t want anymore, consign them yourself. You might just make enough cash to buy the things you really want! You could also list things on E-Bay or other internet sites.
6
Last but not least, avoid buying “bargain” items that you just won’t wear. Getting a great deal is one thing but spending your hard-earned money wisely is another. Have a plan for the items you buy. Make sure you have an outfit to wear with that scarf .... make sure you have dinner plans for that new dress .... make sure those shoes match your overall clothing theme. Buying just to get a bargain just doesn’t make sense!

Before we get into the directions, this recipe comes with a warning. This dish is high in fiber; the pasta alone is 26% of the recommended daily allowance per serving, as per the box panel. That being said, if you are not currently partaking in a high fiber diet, I do not recommend this dish to be the start. High fiber foods should be added to your daily routine in small increments. Otherwise, you may experience some ... ahem... side effects. I made this dish myself in my own kitchen to ensure its ease and practicality. I hope you enjoy it. Tracy Allen

1) Preheat the oven to 375 F. Lightly coat a baking dish with cooking spray. 2) Fill a large pot 3/4 full with water and bring to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente (tender), 10 to 12 minutes, or according to the package directions. Drain the pasta thoroughly.
6) Transfer the cooked vegetables to a large bowl. Add the cooked pasta and mozzarella cheese. Toss gently to mix.
3) While the pasta is cooking, cut your fresh broccoli, carrots and bell pepper. 4) In a nonstick frying pan, over medium heat, add the reserved juice from the canned tomatoes. Stir in the fresh vegetables. Saute the vegetables until tender, about 7-8 minutes. Add the mushrooms and garlic and cook for another 5-6 minutes. 5) Add the tomatoes, water, basil, oregano and black pepper to the vegetable mixture. Cook over low heat for 3 to 5 minutes.
7) Spoon the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese. Cover with aluminum foil and bake until the mixture is hot and bubbly, about 40 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil after 20 minutes. 8)
Divide the pasta among individual bowls. Serve with a slice of whole or mixed grain bread and you have a healthy alternative to the normal spaghetti and meat sauce.
Time Saver Save time by buying your carrots and broccoli already chopped. I recommend a pre mixed stir fry package for its ease and freshness.

HIGH IN FIBER... LOW
IN FAT
While increasing fiber and decreasing fat is certainly a smart move, it is best to proceed gradually until your body adjusts to the change. Commonly people are used to low levels of fiber and can experience cramps, gas, bloating and discomfort when increasing the amount of fiber in their diet too suddenly. Increasing the level of fiber gradually helps to avoid these unpleasant side effects. These foods are excellent sources of fiber: (Containing more than 6 grams per serving) Dried Beans Legumes Dried Peas Dried Fruits Nuts Sunflower Seeds Sesame Seeds and many types of Berries. Not as high in fiber... but still great source and a healthy alternative: (4 to 6 grams of fiber per serving.) Apples Pears Barley Bran Muffins Lima Beans Brown Rice Snow Peas Green Peas Sweet Potatoes.
.... I’M HUNGRY! Here’s a fact that 100% of you can agree with .... everybody wants to lose weight, be healthy and look better. The Summer season is when we all want to look as good as possible, as we pour our flabby bodies into tiny, teeny swimsuits. Here in Florida, we all wear halter tops, tank tops, shorts, flip flops and less clothing than we do in the fall and winter seasons. We seem to always be fighting the battle to lose weight and look good! That said, I’m always hungry! Trying to lose weight is hard to do .... eating right is difficult .... finding the time to cook the right food is next to impossible .... with my hectic schedule fast food is way too easy to eat .... what can I do???? You have to find healthy snacks that can get you from mealto-meal. Of course, you must find the time to eat a good, healthy dinner but snacks are important! If you are out and about without any type of refrigeration there are a few snacks you can eat that can actually help your body! In place of grabbing that chocolate candy bar or bag of chips, try natural almonds, a nutrition bar or a small bag of soy chips.
If you are at home and need to satisfy those hunger pangs, try a good old fashioned bowl of cereal. Just add milk and you have a nutritious breakfast or snack. Look for foods that contain the most fiber (at least 5 grams) and the least sugar (no more than 8 grams) per serving .... you might stay away from the Sugar Pops! If cereal isn’t your thing, canned beans and soups can do the trick! Beans are a great source of fiber and protein and they are better than typical side dishes like rice or pasta. You want to make sure your soups are low-sodium varieties. Carrots, celery, apples, pears, oranges, bananas and other types of fruits are also great snacks. If you can keep things cold, there aren’t many snacks better than yogurt. They offer non-fat versions and you can make them even better adding fruit and/or a dash of honey. They also make non-fat ice cream ... don’t forget you can share smoothies with the kids! by Art Koch
“...Look for foods that contain the most fiber (at least 5 grams) and the least sugar (no more than 8 grams) per serving...”
Most people believe by eating baked potatoes they can achieve a healthier, high in fiber, alternative at meal time. But, remember in order to receive the fiber, you must also eat the skin. Keep in mind anything you top on your potato will increase the chance of fat in-take. In other words, broccoli is good, but that pump of melted cheese.... Not so much!

HOW FRESH ARE MY VEGGIES? Did you know that unless you grow your own fruits and vegetables, you aren’t getting the nutritional value that product truly can offer? Most of the food we purchase travels between 1,000 and 2,000 miles before it reaches our grocery stores. Foods lose much of their value over time and studies show that loss occurs even when foods are refrigerated. Green beans can lose up to 90% of their ascorbic value a little after two weeks in the refrigerator. Likewise, broccoli can lose 50% of its ascorbic acid and beta-carotene after only five days in the fridge! The types of containers also play a role in nutrient loss. Orange juice can lose much of its vitamin C when it is stored in wax or plastic containers and it does much better when kept in glass. However, tomato juice keeps more of its vitamin C when it is stored in cans as opposed to glass containers. We all know you should wash food before you July 2009 • nuYou
eat it, but in doing so you are washing away vitamin C and B-complex vitamins as well as minerals. You also lose nutritional elements such as thiamine, carotenoids and flavonoids when you cut or shred food. Last but not least, when you cook vegetables the heat also damages the elements especially vitamin C that is particularly vulnerable to heat. Carotenoids and retinoids are also heat-sensitive. Frozen veggies are better than canned ones and the most notable loss in canned vegetables is the amount on thiamine. The loss of vitamin C, niacin and riboflavin is twice as bad in canned vegetables when compared to frozen ones. Ok ... don’t panic, eating fruits and vegetables are still good for your body and much better than a Snickers bar or Pop Tart. But, if you have the choice when shopping, buy and eat frozen vegetables over canned ones! by Paul Allen

Honey
and it’s many benefits... Since the beginning of time, the honey bee has been known for its beneficial uses. The bee produces the sticky, sweet substance that has been used as food, medicine and for cosmetic purposes throughout time. The Bible speaks of honey in numerous passages and honey was used in early Egypt to prevent wrinkles and provide moisture to the skin. The job of “beekeeping” dates back to 700BC. Greek philosophers referred to honey as “the secret of eternal youth” and Native Americans are known to have used honey to heal the body and spirit. Honey is produced almost everywhere in the world and has been used to heal skin by many cultures. Even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Honey is also used to cure a sore throat, help clear sinuses and fight upper respiratory tract infections. Honey has been found to be more effective than dextromethorphan as a cough suppressant and scientists in Spain have stated that honey contains a natural ingredient that kills influenza germs and fights flu symptoms. Honey can help control blood sugar and it is the ideal liver fuel as it contains a nearly 1:1 ratio of fructose to glucose. Scientists have also found that honey contains various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Honey is a source of vitamins B2, B6, iron and manganese. Constant use will help strengthen white blood corpuscles. When mixed with cinnamon, the combination has been used to cure a number of diseases and problems including: Heart Diseases - Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread or toast and eat
it regularly for breakfast. It will reduce the cholesterol in your arteries. The honey and cinnamon combination revitalize your arteries and veins. arthritis - A study at Copenhagen University had remarkable results by mixing a cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder before breakfast. The combination greatly reduced pain throughout the body. Bacteria - The mixture of honey and cinnamon fights bacteria. If you have a bladder infection take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one tablespoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water. Pimples - Take three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and mix it into a paste. Apply the paste on your blemish before sleeping and wash it the next morning with warm water. If done for 10 days, the pimple will be removed from the root and never appear again. Bad Breath - People in South America gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water and their breath stays fresh throughout the day. Honey comes in a range of colors including white, amber, red, brown and almost black. The darker the color, the richer and deeper the taste. The color, flavor and texture varies with the type of flower nectar the bees used to produce the sticky stuff! If you are thinking about using honey, make sure you purchase 100% natural honey and not artificial honey. Is honey a cure-all, or a wonder medicine? I doubt it, but throughout history honey has been documented to help in many ways. Oh, one other thing I forgeot to mention ....... honey tastes great! by Paul Allen

WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates .... it seems like everywhere you look the word pilates keeps jumping out. What is pilates and where did it come from? NuYou did some research on line, checked out Wikipedia, asked a few people questions and here’s what we found ..... Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by a man named Joseph Pilates in Germany. He designed a system of exercise based on aerobics and yoga postures of Surya Namaskaras. The purpose was to help and improve the rehabilitation program for returning veterans after
the First World War. Joseph Pilates believed mental and physical health were essential to each other and he recommended a few precise movements that emphasized stretching, control and stabilizing key muscles. The seven main principals of pilates are: proper alignment, concentration, precision, centering, control, flowing movement and breathing. When put together, the central aim of pilates is to create a fusion of mind and body .... that is without even engaging the mind, the body will move with economy, grace and balance. In recent years the term “pilates” has worked itself into our mainstream language. There was even an intellectual property lawsuit where a US Federal court ruled the term “pilates” a generic word with free and unrestricted use. This gave many people the right to use the name but also opened up extensive and conflicting information regarding the true teaching of pilates, what it really is, how it works and what credentials teachers should have.
“...Joseph Pilates believed mental and physical health were essential to each other...”
There are many places in the state of Florida that say they teach pilates and most do a great job. Whatever type of exercise you do, make sure they fit your body needs and good luck!

Acupuncture Relieves Stress
and Helps Related Health Issues
Are you experiencing Anxiety, Depression or Fatigue? Do you have any Stress or Pain? If your answer is “Yes” to any one of these symptoms, this information is for you. It is no wonder your mood spirals downward and blood pressure rises in today’s world. Recession hovers over the economy, stocks have dropped, gas prices have gone up and up. While you can’t do anything about the economy or gas prices, you can do something to improve your overall health and well-being. Statistical studies have shown that over 80% of health problems experienced by adults in the U.S. are stess related. Many of my patients are dealing with stress on a daily basis that could cause serious illness if left untreated. How does stress cause health problems? Stress can cause muscle tense or spasms to cause pain:(e.g.: headaches, neck, shoulder, back pain and more). It can cause blood vessels to contract and restrict blood flow to cause poor circulation. The result is muscle, nerve and internal organ malfunction, which can lead to pain and serious damage. Stress is an important factor with regard to many health issues. In Chinese Medicine, we believe that a person whose liver is affected is easily

angered. Stress fuels anger. Anger causes blood pressure to go up and affects the heart. Insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, and palpitations often accompany the progression. In prolonged cases, the kidneys, adrenal glands, endocrine systems may be affected. In some cases more health problems may occur (such as chronic fatigue, early gray hair, premature balding, decreased sexual desire, frequent urination, insomnia, low immunity, frequent sickness, diabetes, weight gain, water retention, kidney and gallbladder stones). Some research also indicates that stress is one of the important factors related to cancer. Make your choice for health. Wrong choices: • Drugs/Anti-depressants can be hard on internal organs and are addictive. Smoking produces toxins and creates • an oxygen shortage in your blood to cause poor circulation, and it is addictive. • Alcohol can damage liver and kidneys, and it is addictive.
