Location

The Nyack, NY, residential campus is set on a hillside overlooking the Hudson River and the Tappan Zee Bridge, only 23 miles from New York City. It neighbors the Village of Nyack, a charming and secluded community known for its restaurants, antique and specialty shops. The campus consists of 65 acres and 31 college-owned buildings in a mix of Victorian and Tudor styles. Nearby are West Point, several Revolutionary War historical sites, and recreational activities including hiking, skiing, skating, boating, golf, and tennis. The New York City campus is located at Broadway and Worth Streets in lower Manhattan. New York City offers the Empire State Building, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, Chinatown, the Bronx Zoo, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, Broadway shows and plays, eight major professional sports teams, the U.S. National Tennis Center, shopping, museums, art, and culture.

Athletic Affiliation

Nyack College competes at the NCAA Division II level in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). We also compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) at the Division I level. The Warriors compete in 11 different sports: Men: Baseball, Basketball, Cross-Country, Soccer, Golf Women: Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross-Country

January 16th, 2011 The 2011 season marks Head Coach Matt Cornacchione’s second year at the helm of the Nyack College baseball team. The Warriors are coming off a 14-29-1 overall record and seventh place CACC finish in the 2010 season. Nyack brings in 8 freshmen and one transfer to the roster of 12 returners. The Warriors enter the season improved and confident, with their eyes on a playoff berth.

Captain Pierre Crespo returns to second base for his senior year. He is coming off a 2010 season in which he hit .253 for the Warriors. Crespo’s double play partner in 2011 will be Sophomore TJ Briggs. TJ comes back faster in 2011 and looks to improve on his 5 steals in 2010. At first base for the Warriors will be Senior Zack McVadon. McVadon brings pop to the middle of the Nyack lineup. At the hot corner in 2011 will be freshman, Eric Roe, from Arlington, Texas. Wayne Richardson (third base), Kevin Earlie (second base), and Nick McConnell (first base) will share time in the infield as well this year. Nyack has plenty of depth at the catching position in 2011. Returning Seniors Carlos Hidalgo & Luis Cacares will see the majority of time behind the dish. Hidalgo is coming off a 2010 season in which he had a .970 fielding percentage. Cacares looks to continue to hold runners after throwing out 15 runners in 2010. Freshmen Jose Rodriguez and Nick McConnell will catch as well as DH and play the field in 2011. The 2011 Warrior outfield is anchored by Senior Michael Frank (Right Field) and Captain, Junior JD Calabrese (Left Field). Frank and Calabarese look to be the team’smain RBI guys in 2011. Frank hit .310 with a .384 OBP, while starting in everygame last year. Calabrese is coming off a monstrous 2010 in which he hit .353with a .444 slugging percentage. Joining the outfield in Center Field willbe Freshman Jean-Pierre Crespo. JeanPierre is the brother of Senior PierreCrespo. Also in the outfield will be Sophomore Ronald Fadul and Freshman Mike DeVinney. The lefty, Fadul,brings depth to the Nyack roster. Jose Alberro will also see some time in the outfield. The 2011 Warriors are lead by Head Coach Matt Cornacchione,Assistant Coaches Mike Nassissi and Christian Guiterrez, Pitching Coach DaveKeine, and Student Coach PJ Rodriguez. Eric Yip also returns in his role as team manager.

season outlook

Juniors Wayne Richardson and Captain Kevin Earlie look to anchor the staff in 2011. Richardson had a great fall; giving up no earned runs in the fall scrimmages. Earlie is coming off a successful 2010 season in which he maintained and ERA of 3.39. Seniors Jose Alberro and Lebby Torres return and bring their veteran presence to the staff. Alberro is looking to bounce back from a 2010 season in which his ERA was 8.33. Torres will continue to hone his variety of breaking pitches in the upcoming season. Newcomers, sophomore (transfer) David Hugo and freshmen Julio Valasquez and Chris Van Holt, all showed promise in the fall season and will be key contributors in 2011. Michael Frank, Pierre Crespo, JD Calabrese, Jean-Pierre Crespo, Carlos Hidalgo, and Ronald Fadul will split time between the field and the mound in 2011 season.


HEAD COACH MATT CORNACCHIONE Matt Cornacchione enters his second season at the helm of the Warriors baseball program. He is also the Sport Information Director of Nyack College. Prior to his arrival at Nyack, Cornacchione spent two years within the conference at nearby Bloomfield College where he served as Assistant Head Baseball Coach and Sports Information Director in the Deacons Athletic Department. Before landing at Bloomfield College, Cornacchione spent two years as an assistant coach at his alma mater Geneva College during the 2005 & 2007 seasons, helping lead the Golden Tornadoes to a 2007 AMC North Division regular season title , Geneva’s only AMC title in school history. As a 3-year starter at Geneva College, he made starts for the Golden Tornadoes at 6 different positions including catcher, pitcher, third base, outfield, and designated hitter. In 2004 he was named a team captain and also received AMC All-Conference Honorable Mention for his senior season. Cornacchione holds a bachelor’s in Elementary Education and is currently working on a Master’s degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education with an emphasis on Sports Administration from Montclair State University.


ASSISTANT COACH MICHAEL NASSISI At Nyack High School Michael Nassisi earned all-league SS as a sophomore and all-section SS as a senior. Michael went on to D-II Rockland Community College to become the team’s closer as a freshman, where he would convert 7 of 7 save opportunities with a 1.50 ERA. As a sophomore at Rockland, Michael made all-region CF and helped lead Rockland to back to back conference championships. After S.U.N.Y. Rockland, Michael moved on to Chico, California to earn a B.A. degree in Kinesiology and a Teacher Credential in Physical Education. While earning his degrees in Chico, Michael pursued coaching and playing baseball. In summer of 2008, Michael was assistant coach of the Chico Suns, a 16-17 year old American Legion team that finished 2nd place in the northern California state. In the spring of 2009, Michael served as assistant coach of Chico High School’s varsity baseball team. That summer as a player Michael won Rookie of The Year for the Semi-Pro, Nor Cal Pirates who won both the Chico League and the (Pacific West Baseball League) Championships. Michael is currently a hitting and pitching instructor at RBI Indoor Baseball Facility in Valley Cottage, NY. In the summer and fall Michael is head coach of the Clarkstown Stars 16-Under travel baseball team. Michael also is Player/Manager of 18+Over Men’s Wooden Bat League Nyack Yankees.


PITCHING COACH DAVE KEINE Dave Keine enters his first season at the helm of the Warriors pitching staff. Before landing at Nyack College, Keine was a 4-year starter at Hendrix College (Conway, Arkansas). Keine led the Hendrix Warriors to a SCAC Conference Championship in his Junior year. During the championship season, Keine led the Hendrix staff in wins, strikeouts, and opponent batting average (lowest). Keine led the Warriors in strikeouts 2 of his 4 seasons. Coach Keine is still playing baseball as well. He has been invited to 2011 spring training with the Las Cruces Vaqueros of the Pecos League. Keine holds a bachelor’s in Biology and is currently working on a Master’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Marketing from Nyack College.


ASSISTANT COACH cHRISTIAN GUTIERREZ Coach Gutierrez enters his fourth season as a member of Nyacks staff. He is a former Warrior player and a 2008 Nyack College graduate. Gutierrez was the 2006 NCAA Div. II leader in sacrifice hits and a 2-year starter at 2nd base.

STUDENT COACH cHRISTIAN GUTIERREZ Rodriguez played for Nyack Baseball from 2009-2010. He graduates from Nyack College in May 2011. PJs hometown is Levittown, Puerto Rico.
