2011 COACHING STAFF
HEAD COACH
Wendy Muckell
The 2011 season will mark Wendy Muckell’s fourth year as head coach of the Nyack College Cross Country Team. Remarkably, this will be Wendy’s tenth season as part of his program, having served as assistant coach on 2006 and 2007 following one of the most successful running careers in the history of Nyack College. She ran for Nyack from 2002 through 2005 and earned the titles of Conference Champion and CACC Runner of the Year in both her junior and senior years. She also was All-CACC in her last three years before her graduation in May, 2006 with a Bachelors degree in Psychology. Under her direction, Coach Muckell has led two men and three women to All-CACC honors. Her women’s team was also awarded the conference’s Team Sportsmanship award. Last spring, she was selected as Nyack College’s Coach of the Year by her alma mater’s athletic department. Away from Nyack, Wendy is a professional personal trainer serving on the staff of the prestigious Equinox Fitness Club in the heart of Manhattan (44th Street and Lexington Avenue). She is also the assistant coach at the Running Center in New York City. Her passion and talent for the sport of running is further evidenced by her extra-curricular activities. To date, Coach Muckell has run five marathons: Philadelphia (4:08 and 4:12), New Jersey (3:44), Hudson Mohawk (3:50), and Blue Mountain (3:43). She also successfully completed the Tupper Lake Tinman Half-Ironman in 6:01. She is a member of both the Rockland Road Runners Club and the New York Road Runners Club. Wendy resides in White Plains, New York. Last year’s tragic loss of team member Ann Jackson brings Coach Muckell back this year stronger and more focused than ever. She and the team have dedicated this season to Ann’s memory. 5

2011 COACHING STAFF
ASSISTANT COACH
Latia Deyli
A 4-sport athlete in high school, Deylii began her running career in 2006 as a sophomore at Nyack College. By her second season in 2007, she showed tremendous improvement and received the Nyack College Athletics Coaches Award. In that same year, Deylii also took on the responsibility of becoming team Manager for Nyack’s Women’s Basketball Team. In her third XC season in 2008, she became captain of the women’s team and was rewarded with the Fire Award, in recognition of her outstanding performance and admirable leadership qualities. Deylii concluded her last season in 2009 as Harold W. Bowman Character Award nominee and as a recipient of another leadership award. In addition to these awards, she had the fulfilling opportunity to be apart of Nyack College history when she witness the women’s basketball team win the 2009-2010 CACC Conference Championship. After graduating in December of 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting and completing her four years of racing at the Division II level, Latia Deylii returns as Assistant Coach for the Men & Women’s Cross Country Team’s 2011-2012 season. This will be her second year assistant coaching this Warrior Program. Some of her responsibilities will include scouting, recruiting, leading practices, and strength & conditioning workouts. Deylii is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership and is scheduled to graduate in 2012. Beside coaching Cross Country here at Nyack, Deylii also does the sports photography for the College’s Athletics Department and works with the sports information director, Matthew Cornacchione.

2010 SEASON RECAP The Nyack Running Warriors have proved themselves worthy opponents. In the 2010 season the Men and Woman’s teams came into pre-season strong, enthusiastic and ready to push themselves beyond their personal limits. Captains Sharon Fetters and Aaron Baldwin, both seniors, led their respective teams with strong work ethic and dedication to their sport. Both Cross Country teams improved from last year, with the women placing in the Top-6 at their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Race and with the men placing in the Top-5 out of the 13 rivals in our competitive conference. Sophomore Stuart Guild and graduating senior, Sharon Fetters were named CACC All-Conference/All-Conference Team of the 2010 season. This was Guild’s 1st time receiving the aware and Fetters’ 4th. The Warriors also had the opportunity to race in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships for first time in four years. At Christian Nationals, Stuart Guild was the top finisher for Nyack as the men finished in 18th place out of the 28 schools present. Guild completed the 8,000 meter course in 28:57and finished in 67th place out of 186 runners. Aaron Baldwin arrived in 29:26, while Robert Lafond finished in 29:35, breaking his personal time record for this season. Rounding out the rest of the Top 5 Warrior line-ups were Benjamin Wallin (29:52) and Stephen Mitzel (31:54). Sharon Fetters was the top finisher at Nationals for the Nyack Ladies as the Warriors took 12th place out of the 21 schools present. Fetters completed the 5,000 meter course in 19:29, hitting her personal record for this season and finished in an impressive 22nd place out of 148 runners. This was her first time participating in the NCCAA Championships in her college career. Lizzie Rigotti was 55th in 20:40, and had broke another personal record for the second week in a row, while Deborah McCarthy finished in 21:32. Rounding out the rest of the Top 5 Warrior line-ups were Allie Roma (21:43) and Bethany Allison (23:49). In addition, Allie Roma, Anne Jackson, Benjamin Wallin, Deborah McCarthy, Lizzie Rigotti, Sarah Beach, Sharon Fetters, Stephen Mitzel were also all awarded & named NCCAA Scholar Athletes of the Year - being juniors & seniors holding GPA’s of 3.5 and above. With the tragic and sudden loss of their teammate Anne Jackson on November 17th, 2010, the Running Warriors ran their last race of the season (NCAA Regional’s in Boston, MA) in her honor & memory. Nyack’s coaching staff is very proud of their team for having one of their best seasons since Coach Muckell took on the program. The entire coaching staff really admires the passion, strength, and dedication their student-athletes possess for the sport, and for love they share for each other; not only as friends and teammates - but as a loving family.
