Season Outlook The Nyack College women’s soccer team enters 2010 with cautious optimism about not only the prospects for the current season but also the future years ahead. After a 2009 season filled with many ups and downs, heart-breaking losses, numerous injuries and low roster numbers, the 2010 team senses an improved attitude and fresh perspective under new head coach, Bill Findley. Preseason training will be a time for everyone to familiarize themselves with each other and gain full understanding of new expectations and goals. Coach Findley is looking for this to be a successful experience upon which positive steps can be put in place in order to move forward and build for the future. Returning NCCAA East Region 1st team and two time All-CACC 1st team forward Alisha Smith returns for her senior campaign and will be counted on to add to her 3 year totals of 42 goals and 11 assists. Her leadership as Captain for the 2010 season will loom large as well. “Without a doubt, Alisha has the ability to take over a match and create huge problems for opposing defenses,” observed Findley. “We need to find ways to capitalize on her speed by isolating her in 1v1 situations. If we can do that then we will be able to create quality scoring opportunities for Alisha and the team.” Co-captains Shannon McNeely and Brianna Meyers will add quality support on the field as well with their talent and leadership abilities. McNeely led the CACC in saves in 2009 with 178 and a 10.41 average and selected as honorable mention to the NCCAA East Region Team. Her abilities to make the routine saves will prove valuable to the Lady Warriors during a very tough conference schedule. Meyers will add depth to the midfield, as well as, in the back with her abilities in both areas of the field. “I am blessed to have 3 very solid seniors who I am counting on to help lead us through a competitive schedule,” says Findley. “Their leadership will be essential for us to build a solid foundation during the course of the year and I am pleased that they are responding well to my style and personality.” Returning veterans Susanna Bicknell, Amanda Carter and Jennifer Jordan will help greatly in the midfield and in the attack. Bicknell will serveprimarily as the attacking center mid with Carter playing both as a forward and as a midfielder. Each player brings value in their role with their ball-handling and ability to read the game well. is a solid workhorse and is capable of creating problems not only in the attack as an outside midfielder but also is relentless in her defensive pressure and work-rate versus opposing teams. Juniors Caitlin Gallagher, Abby Nehlsen and Bitsy Hess will complement the team with their experience from the past 2 seasons and will be expected to play a myriad of roles during the season. All 3 bring talent, heart and leadership to the team and will contribute effectively using their abilities. Sophomore Stephanie Mercier adds solid depth to the roster in her position anywhere in the midfield and in the back. Also, at times she will be called upon to assist up top using her attacking skills. “These veterans bring a wealth of experience to the team that will be called upon all season to help lead us through this maze of competition,” commented Findley. “The challenge will be to get each returning player to buy into the value they bring to the team and how they will help us reach our potential. I am thankful that these are quality individuals have a desire to see us achieve some quality results this year.” Junior College transfer Maranda Ohlsen will provide much needed strength to the defense with her tenacious marking ability and leadership. Her talents will prove to be vital as the team builds toward success. Five freshmen from around the country will contribute immediately in their various roles in all areas of the field. Evany Brown and Christy Degelman are solid defenders who will anchor the outside marking positions while AnneMarie Farrokh will find her place in the midfield with her strong technical abilities. Rheanna Perez is a quality player who will provide a formidable presence in the center of the field whether that be up top as a forward or in the back as a central defender. Heather Wakefield is a very talented addition to the roster as well who will serve as another central defender in the sweeper or stopper roles. “We are fortunate to have 5 quality freshmen this year and I am looking for these young ladies to be the cornerstone for our success in the future,” stated Findley. “Each of them offers very unique and distinct talents which we can use to benefit our program straight-away. Coach Carillo and Coach Oduro did a great job in recruiting these fine players and for that I am so thankful.” All-in-all the 2010 edition of Lady Warrior soccer will face many challenges along its journey but will gain tremendous experience with each match and with a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment will see major growth throughout the season. “I believe strongly in this group of kids and have no doubt that we will achieve our team goals,” Findley mentions with confidence. “Honestly, we are in a win-win situation and there is nowhere to go but up at this point. This truly is a great opportunity for the ladies and they need to use this season as a dynamic means to propel the program to a higher level in the days ahead. It is a great honor to work with these young lives and I am excited to be a part of this new day in the program!” Through it all the team will constantly focus not only on what needs to be done on the field but also in the bigger picture they will keep in mind the mandate from the Scripture text they have selected as their guiding principle for the season that comes from Hebrews 12:1-2, which states in part, “…..let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and FINISHER of our faith….”

About
the
CACC
The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference is a NCAA Division II Conference composed of 14 institutions in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The member institutions are Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Chestnut Hill College, Concordia (NY) College, Dominican (N.Y.) College, Felician College, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Nyack College, Philadelphia University, Post University, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Wilmington University. The CACC was founded in 1965. The conference included seven original members dating to the conference’s time in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA); Bloomfield, Caldwell, Dominican, Georgian Court, Nyack, Post and St. Thomas Aquinas when it made application to the NCAA Division II. The seven schools applied for membership in the fall of 1998. In 2002 the CACC qualified for NCAA Division II Provisional Conference Status and it achieved Active Status in July of 2004. Six schools: Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Dominican College, Felician College, Georgian Court College and Post University, became full Division II members in 2002-03. Holy Family College, GoldeyBeacom College, Nyack College and USP became active DII members in 2003-04, followed by Wilmington College in 2004-05. During the span from 1998-2004, the conference underwent numerous changes in addition to upgrading to Division II. In 1999, St. Thomas Aquinas left the conference and five new members joined. Felician College, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family College, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) and Wilmington College, all NAIA schools, immediately applied for Division II status upon becoming members. In 2000, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) boosted the membership to 12 schools and that number grew to 13 in 2005 as Philadelphia University started active membership. NJIT moved on to Division I status after the 2005-06 season. The addition of Chestnut Hill College in 2007 and Concordia College in 2009 brought the CACC to 14 members. With its ascent to active Division II status, the Conference made major improvements by introducing a new website and logo. Both were unveiled in July of 2004. The website, www. caccathletics.org, contains updated stats, schedules, results, photos and news about all 14 member schools. The site underwent a complete redesign in the summer of 2009. Off the court and field, the CACC and its student-athletes take pride in the balance between academics and athletics. The CACC finished third nationally among Division II Conferences for the graduation rate of its student-athletes, according to the latest NCAA report. Furthermore, the conference established its inaugural All-Academic team in the fall of 2004 and the number of names on the list continues to grow each year. The CACC honored over 220 scholar-athletes in 2009-10. Division II is composed of 22 conferences and 11 independent institutions ranging from coast-to-coast-and beyond. Division II is the only NCAA membership division with programs in Alaska and Puerto Rico. Furthermore, four of the five colleges on Hawaii are members of Division II.
