DIVISION 24 - APRIL/MAY NEWSLETTER

Lieutenant Governor's Greeting Hello Division 24, I hope everyone’s doing well, and I’m so excited to be sending out my first newsletter!! If we haven’t already met, my name is Anna Scott and I am your new Division 24 Lieutenant Governor for the 2021-2022 service year! I am currently a junior at Carthage Central High School. This is my third year being a member of Key Club, and my first year being Lieutenant Governor. I love community service and Key Club has always held a special place in my heart, which is why I’m so excited to be able to serve with you all this year! Last year was a very difficult year to stay active in Key Club, but our members still persevered through and did amazing work! If we keep up this hard work and perseverance we’ll be able to make this service year (as Governor Chloe is always saying) the best one yet!! Things are starting to look up as many clubs are going back to in person meetings, I hope this positive trend continues. One of the most important jobs a club has is turning in their paperwork on time. The three main forms are the Monthly Report Form (MRF), Election Report Form (ERF), and the Fundraising Report Form (FRF). The MRF is filled out by the club’s secretary and is due on the 10th of every month. Shout out to Madrid-Waddington, Norwood-Norfolk, Ogdensburg, and South Jefferson for all turning in their March and April MRFs on time!! Even if you missed the due date it is still very important that you turn in these forms as they help us keep track of our service hours for the year. The May MRF will be due on June 10th. The ERF is a one time form that is filled out by the president after our club's election. Right now I only have ERFs from Norwood-Norfolk and Carthage. I recommend doing your elections before this school year ends, but if you can't, don't worry the ERF is not due until September 30th. The FRF is filled out by the club treasurer whenever a club has a fundraiser where the funds don’t go directly to the club. The form needs to be filled out a day or two after your fundraiser, and the information on the form helps us keep track of our fundraising goal for the year. All of these forms are VERY important and are what helps keep Key Club running smoothly, so please stay on top of your paperwork. And lastly, good luck to anyone taking finals, AP tests, SATs, or ACTs!! I know I can’t wait until I’m finished with all of them!! Yours in Service, Anna Scott Division 24 Lieutenant Governor

Past Events - Service Spotlight Madrid-Waddington High School (Division 24)

During the month of February the Madrid-Waddington Central School Key Club sold paper hearts. The proceeds were donated to the American Heart Association and we raised over one-hundred and twenty-five dollars. Our members went all around our community and school selling these hearts. The hearts were displayed with messages from the person who purchased them. Hearts came in the colors of purple, red and pink. They were located on the school hallway outside of the high school office. During the month of March our Key Club sold shamrocks to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). There were two different shamrocks that were available, gold ones and green ones. The members were able to raise over one hundred and thirty dollars. The shamrocks were also displayed on the hallway with the names of the donors. Our Key Club was very fortunate to have the opportunity to fundraise during these trying times. Past Events - Service Spotlights

Norwood-Norfolk High School (Division 24) During February the Norwood Norfolk Key Club hosted a flower sale at Hometown, our local diner. We sold these flowers for two days on February 13th and 14th. This helped us raise money so we could buy and donate Comfort Cubs to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Ogdensburg Child Psychiatric Center. Comfort Cubs are weighted teddy bears that are given to people who have been through a traumatic event or have a devastating illness and are meant to bring a sense of calming and peace to the patient. We donated 6 bears to both places and we plan to make this fundraiser and donation a tradition for future service years. Written by: Molly Gardner, President

Past Events - Service Spotlights Patchogue Medford High School (Division 2) Although Key Club is a international service organization, it’s a priority to maintain community relationships and participate in local community service activities. An all time club favorite has been volunteering at our local Soup Kitchen. Prior to the Pandemic members would volunteer weekly serving breakfast, distributing lunches, distributing non- perishable food items and clothes/toiletries. Since the Pandemic, the number of volunteers has been limited, however, a select few have been able to continue volunteering. There has been a new system of grab and go breakfast and lunch that operates outside on Saturday Mornings. New modifications have not limited the amount of people we have been able to help. We reached an all time high of 95 people since the Pandemic. Members have missed this opportunity and are excited to be able to volunteer once the Soup Kitchen is operating under normal conditions. I take great pride in being a key club president with members so driven to make a difference in our community. We are able to reach many different people of all different situations and it is very rewarding to be able to see the positive impact we are able to make on our community.
