DIVISION 24 - JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Past Events - Service Spotlight Norwood-Norfolk High School (Division 24) This December the NorwoodNorfolk Key Clubbers made 300 Christmas sugar cookies for the Extended Day program that meets after school to decorate before the holiday break. The members stayed after on Monday’s and Friday's during the month of December in Mrs. Dean's class cutting them out and then baking them. The members had a lot of fun doing so and even got to sample their handy work. The NNCS Key Clubbers that participated were Abbie Weems, Harleigh Fountain, Corbin Gardner, Caramia Carista, Tarron Colbert, Emmaleigh Fregoe, Emma Farns and Jaden Waite. Members have been working with the Extended Day program for a few years now. They have helped the students make slime, no slip socks, dog toys and have worked with them for tutoring. The NNCS Key Club also rang the bells for the Salvation Army a few times and put up a display for the Lights on the River at a local beach along the St Lawrence River. Past Events - Service Spotlights Riverhead High School (Division 1)

Each year, our Key Club makes and distributes packets of ‘reindeer food’ and candy canes to the children of the elementary schools in our district. In the weeks leading up to winter break, we made over 1,000 of these packets by combining oatmeal and sprinkles and then stapling a poem to the top. The purpose of these packets is so that on the night of Christmas Eve, the children can sprinkle the ‘reindeer food’ on their lawn to help guide Santa’s reindeer to their house. Because of everything the children in our district have had to go through the last couple of years, we wanted to outdo ourselves with this project and even had our student volunteers dress up as Santa and his elves while we brought the ‘reindeer food’ to the children. On top of this, one of the elementary schools asked if we could write responses to the letters the students wrote to Santa, so we spent a few club meetings doing this as well. The children were definitely excited to receive the ‘reindeer food’, candy canes, and letters from Santa and his elves and our student volunteers were happy to spend a few hours spreading some holiday cheer.
