A SEASON NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC
2012/13
OF BRILLIANT NIGHTS
The new New York Philharmonic season features more than 130 magical evenings (and matinees) of the best music-making you’ll hear anywhere. Here are a few highlights.
THE BACH VARIATIONS A PHILHARMONIC FESTIVAL
March 6–April 6 Four accomplished maestros show the many ways the composer The New York Times called “The Greatest” can be interpreted today. Highlights include piano concertos with András Schiff (Apr. 3–6), violin concertos with Isabel Faust and conductor Bernard Labadie (Mar. 20–23), choral works with renowned Bach specialist Masaaki Suzuki (Mar. 6–9), and one of the crowning achievements in all of music, the Mass in B minor conducted by Alan Gilbert (Mar. 13–16).
JOSHUA BELL PLAYS BERNSTEIN
April 17–20 “The greatest American violinist active today.” The Boston Herald Alan Gilbert conducts.
BACH AT 92ND STREET Y
Our friends at 92Y are also saluting Bach this season. Their concerts include performances by pianists András Schiff (Oct. 27, Nov. 1) and Marc-André Hamelin (Jan. 30); guitarists Raphaella Smits (Mar. 23) and Benjamin Verdery (May 23); violinist Jennifer Koh (Mar. 2); recorder virtuoso Michala Petri and harpsichordist Anthony Newman (Feb. 13) and Interpreting Bach: A Symposium with Alan Gilbert, Jennifer Koh and Masaaki Suzuki, moderated by Hanna Arie-Gaifman (Mar. 3). 92Y.org/Concerts or 212.415.5500.
PINCHAS ZUKERMAN
