ON THE SCENE
T H E A RT O F
Having proudly served as New York’s Orchestra for more than 176 years, the Philharmonic turns its sights on music that reflects who we are as a mosaic of people. In this weeklong focus, we explore our roots as a city of immigrants, including a new work that spotlights a landmark event that helped shape our history. Community partners include the Museum of the City of New York, National Archives at New York City, and the Tenement Museum.
The season culminates in three weeks of unforgettable music created in response to historical events, political unrest, and societal turmoil. Community partners include International Rescue Committee, The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York, and Stonewall 50 Committee.
Hosted by Nadia Sirota, Creative Partner
Louis Andriessen has been on the forefront of musical and compositional innovation, inspiring a generation of musicians and audiences alike. The Art of Andriessen celebrates Louis’s rich musical contributions, and explores an array of his works and influences.
