FOR JAAP, RETURNING TO THE CITY THAT HONED HIS MUSICIANSHIP SOME 40 YEARS AGO AT JUILLIARD MEANS RECONNECTING WITH THE PULSE OF A PEOPLE AND AN ORCHESTRA WHOSE EXPECTATIONS AND RESOLVE ARE UNMATCHED — RESULTING IN A STIRRING INAUGURAL SEASON THAT PULLS ON THE THREADS OF HUMANITY, REVERBERATING HERE AND BEYOND.

NEW YORK, MEET JAAP.

NEW MUSIC: NEW VENUES

Jaap van Zweden and the New York Philharmonic welcome an array of New Yorkers to these four special performances, bringing together the noble doers, dreamers, and everyday heroes of our great and diverse city. Open to all those on whom we depend — those who devote their talents to teaching, those who respond first, volunteer, give back, and work in public service — we extend a warm invitation for $5 tickets at David Geffen Hall.

Louis Andriessen has been on the forefront of musical and compositional innovation, inspiring a generation of musicians and audiences alike. The Art of Andriessen celebrates Louis’s rich musical contributions, and explores an array of his works and influences.

MUSIC OF

THREADS OF OUR CITY

CONSCIENCE

Having proudly served as New York’s Orchestra for more than 176 years, the Philharmonic turns its sights on music that reflects who we are as a mosaic of people. In this weeklong focus, we explore our roots as a city of immigrants, including a new work that spotlights a landmark event that shaped our history. Community partners include the Museum of the City of New York, National Archives at New York City, and the Tenement Museum.

The season culminates in three weeks of unforgettable music created in response to historical events, political unrest, and societal turmoil. Community partners include International Rescue Committee, The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York, and Stonewall 50 Committee.

Julia WOLFE Fire in My Mouth World Premiere–New York Philharmonic Commission
