Trainee Judges Process All those wishing to become a NZAHBS Judge need to attend a RAS judging seminar in the first instance. All new and existing judges are encouraged to attend a RAS seminar annually. The seminar dates for 2016 will be published on the RAS website once confirmed: www.ras.org.nz
Equidays 2016 The Society is looking at attending Equidays again this year. We are looking for volunteers to help man the stand. Please get in touch if you can help. Dates are 14-16 October. National Championship Miniature Trophies The NZAHBS-funded miniature trophies were very popular at the 2016 NZ National Arabian Championships Show. Past National Champion winners are being given the opportunity to buy their own trophy in retrospect. REGISTRATION Please find following a summary of the current Purebred Registration requirements. For full details please refer to the “NZAHBS Constitution” & “NZAHBS Regulations for Registration” which are available to download from the NZAHBS website. Annual Mare & Stallion Returns have been reintroduced. Returns must be completed and returned to the office by 1 April each year. Electronic forms are available to download off the website. Members are required to file Annual Returns for all Mares and Stallions owned or leased, even if they have not been bred during the season.

Purebred Applications for Registration are due by 1st July following the end of the breeding season which the foal was born.
Foals born during the 2015/16 are due to be registered by 1st July 2016.
A DNA sample must accompany all Purebred Applications for Registration, including geldings, whose hair will be held in storage in case it is needed at a later date.

Both the Sire & Dam of the foal must be DNA typed prior to breeding.

Artificial Insemination Permits are no longer required for Purebred Mares & Stallions that are both registered and resident in New Zealand.
Artificial Insemination Permits are only required if semen is being imported from a stallion registered and resident in another WAHO registry country to be used with a mare registered and resident in New Zealand. Resulting progeny (including Geldings) must be DNA Parent Verified at registration.
REQUIREMENTS The self-carbonated Application for Registration forms will be discontinued as they do not comply with the current registration regulations. Updated Purebred & Derivative registration forms are being created and will be available to download from the NZAHBS website soon. In the meantime – please continue to use the self-carbonated forms as follows: • The Stallion Owner must complete and sign the Service Certificate. • The Mare Owner (breeder) must complete and sign the Dam Owner’s Certificate, Mare Return & Markings. • A qualified Veterinary Surgeon must sign off on the identity of the foal – there is no box for this on the self-carbonated form – please have them sign above the horse diagrams. • Whorls are to be noted on the application form with an ‘X’.

Horses born from 1 August 2012 must now be branded AND/OR microchipped for identification. Previous rules surrounding this: • Horses born prior to 31 July 2007 - branding compulsory • Horses born from 1 August 2007 to 31 July 2012 - branding optional • Horses born from 1 August 2012 - to be branded AND/OR microchipped NB: any horse accepted by the Council for late registration shall comply with the Registration Regulations in place at the TIME OF REGISTRATION.
Current Purebred Registration fees: Geldings $59.50, Fillies $197.50 (includes DNA typing fee), Colts $250.00 (includes DNA typing fee).

If you have a Colt that you are undecided whether to geld or not an extension can be given until 1 November at which time he must be registered as a Colt or as a Gelding and the relevant fee paid. The Purebred Colt registration fee has been reduced and gelding refunds are no longer applicable.
