THE VENUE: Shed 6, Queens Wharf Wellington Waterfront

THE

The Infocus Conference is the only major annual event for photography professionals in New Zealand. The Iris Awards judging is held for three days prior to the conference, to maximise the benefit, and minimise time out of the office for both members and sponsors VENUE alike. Infocus provides a forum for the New Zealand professional photography industry to come together to achieve a number of objectives: • To celebrate the craft of professional photography • To discuss important issues facing the industry • To provide professional development for photographers • To create networking opportunities between suppliers and photographers • To raise the profile of the Institute and photographers across New Zealand. The Infocus Conference incorporates an invaluable Industry Exhibition, Gala Awards dinner - to celebrate the Iris Award winners. We encourage you to make the most of this valuable opportunity, to network with major players, be actively involved in the conference, enjoy all that Wellington has to offer, and in particular utilise the social functions to interact and exchange ideas with delegates.

“ ” Susana Barbera

I go crazy with Susana’s work. She is full of infinite magic. Her pictures are close to the ones from the classic masters, perfect on emotion, technique and personality. They are full of feminine magic but they go straight to your soul with a sensual touch! - Sion Fullana

Susana Barbera is an International reference in documentary wedding photography. Her committed and passionate work, creativity and mastery in the use of black and white have earned her numerous international awards and taken her to her other passion, teaching and sharing her philosophy of believing in magic to let the Universe surprise you. When that happens your are able to see the right picture at the right time. Teaching and finding the potential in each student is her goal, we are all different, we dont need to be a copy of anybody else but be the best of ourselfs.

Greatly inspired by the art of street photography, Susana’s images are as striking as they are filled with action and intensity. They engage, amaze, and entertain as she successfully infuses a glimpse of her own sense of humor into each piece. Award Winning Professional Wedding Photographer: •

James Simmons

PASSIONATE, CONNECTIVE, JOYFUL, ADVENTUROUS AND ROMANTIC. If you asked me to describe myself and what I do in five words. You know when you are just fully enthralled by something, not like a hobby or a pastime activity, like something you are obsessed with, that you can’t go a day without thinking about. Pure passion, I’m talking about wake up in the morning thinking about it and going to bed thinking about it. I might have a bit of an addictive personality and a competitive drive, but I’m a country boy at heart. On the surface nothing seems to phase me, but deep down I have a burning desire to create something that can make a difference. A humanist if you will, but one at a time starting with the people around me. If I can make a difference to people in some way, my rationale gives me purpose, direction and the confidence to exist in the foreground where anxiety wants to make me drift to the background.

PROUDLY SPONSORED BY

I get a lot from photography, and connection is the major one. It’s my way of being able to connect with the world. The excitement that I get from producing images that people will be able to treasure for years to come almost outweighs the enjoyment from the technical and creative challenge it poses. But most of all, seeing people show their true selves to me in that moment of vulnerability is a real honour to witness as it takes a lot of trust, and knowing I can do that for people is very humbling I also love photojournalism. I love telling stories and that is what drew me to wedding photography. Growing up by the beaches of regional Western Australia, traveling around the world twice in search of perfect surf, snow and images, breaking both my arms, having worked in viticulture, stage production, hospitality and mining has all contributed to my love for adventure and love for being adventurous with my photography. Meeting new people has become part of my journey and is an adventure in itself, so I have the utmost respect for people, family and culture.

“ ” Jonathan Suckling

Most people think you need an expensive camera to make good photos. But the truth is...you just need good dance moves.

Jonathan is based in Auckland, NZ and jumped into wedding photography in 2014 at 18, two years on and he’s already built himself a solid business and made a name for himself in the industry, Specialising in weddings. To say that Jonathan Suckling makes wedding photography fun, doesn’t even scratch the surface of his approach. Jonathan dances and jokes his way into capturing genuine, beautiful emotions and makes sure everyone around him is always having a good time. His unorthodox methods went viral when a video taken of Jonathan shooting a wedding received over 20 million views and hundreds of thousands of shares.

Far from being a gimmick though, his methods create an atmosphere that enables him to build relationships with and connect with his clients; and together along with them build the story of their special day. He loves making people laugh, spontaneous fits of interpretive dance, great conversations, watching funny #internetz, jumping off things (into water) and eating good food.

Christina Force

Thank you thank you thank you! I suddenly feel the photographer I’ve always wanted to be and I can’t tell you how amazing that feels.

Originally a layout artist at Saatchi & Saatchi London, Christina Force is the founder of The Collective Forcethe first and best known photographer’s agency in New Zealand, and also OPTNZ- the first dedicated stills production company. For 15 years she was instrumental in introducing New Zealand ad agencies to the concept of working with an agent, respecting high production values, and educating them on copyright for photographers. Realising the potential of her stable and of New Zealand, she successfully launched her photographers internationally with regular sales trips to Singapore, Hong Kong, China, USA and Australia, placing New Zealand firmly on the map as a professional destination with great talent, as well as attracting photographers from all around the world to her stable. In 2011, she moved into the role of marketing and folio consultant. As one of the few agents in the world who has spent considerable time in both the Australasian and North American markets, she is well placed to help photographers create beautiful folios designed for specific territories. However, her consulting practice has a huge emphasis on helping photographers realise their

dreams through strategic planning, targeted marketing, and tapping into their authenticity. An offshoot of the consulting work is the demand for her to speak at conferences and events in New Zealand and beyond. Christina is chairperson of the NZ Agents and Producers Association (which operates under the umbrella of the AIPA), and has been a guest speaker at many AIPA conferences and seminars, in addition to The New Zealand Contemporary Photography Association, Axis Ad School, Unitec, Whitecliffe College of Art, CACT Sydney and The New York Academy of Film. She has been an IPA judge since 2011, and has also judged New Zealand professional photography competitions as well as being interviewed for various publications including Capture Magazine, D Foto, Better Photography, Campaign Brief Australia and Ad Media. Her mission? To help professional photographers get paid to shoot what they love. ‘Thank you thank you thank you! I suddenly feel the photographer I’ve always wanted to be and I can’t tell you how amazing that feels.’

Her aim is to provide families with heirloom portraits that really capture something unique and special about the people in them. As a solo mum to a busy two year old boy, she balances running a succesful business with all the craziness, love, joy and utter chaos that comes with motherhood. She is passionate about being in the business of photography and loves that it offers a way to be fully independent while doing what she loves – conencting with people and capturing moments for families to cherish. A self-taught photographer, Kim once got brave enough to enter the Iris awards and accidentally surprised the hell out of herself by picking up a Gold award.
