Posing to flatter anyone – Lindsay Adler
It is our job to flatter every subject that steps in front of our lens by showcasing their strengths. When photographing the everyday person instead of models, however, we will often be asked to photograph and flatter more challenging features. Challenging does not mean “bad”, but instead that you must understand the photographic tools available to you to help their best-side shine. These features could be a pronounced nose, large forehead, large chin, glasses, round face, double chin, asymmetrical features, bald head, defined wrinkles and more. It is imperative when you photograph them that you are able to do so with confidence! This course will cover many challenging features and show you how posing, camera angle, lens choice, lighting and photoshop work together for successful imagery 2.35pm

Living Light Workshop with Denis Smith Light Painting is an innovative and electrifying form of photography which is accessible to all ages and abilities. We usually think of a photograph as a single moment in time, a brief ‘snapshot’ – but what if that moment was 10, 20 or 30 seconds long? ‘Long exposures’ like this transform images – human movement becomes ghostly or even invisible, light sources leave pulsing trails of colour, and night becomes day.

MASTERS OF CEREMONY RACHEL CALLANDER | MC Bio written by Clinton Lloyd
Rachel is irresistibly genuine and infectiously passionate about all of the love, the loss and the open doors that life throws her way. Always up for chats into the night and dancing until morning, it’s impossible to talk to her without feeling the warm embrace of a soul truly alive. As the author of the “Super Power Baby Project” she is internationally sought after for her thought leadership and ability to reshape the cultural narrative on disabilities into a life affirming , hope enabling paradigm. Coming all the way from Perth this year to MC conference, because she couldn’t face missing out on seeing all your beautiful faces. When she’s not on stage you are bound to find her in deep conversation with someone probably in tears, getting messy on the dance floor or seeing the best in every Iris entry.
CLINTON LLOYD | MC Bio written by Rachel Callander
Do not be fooled by the cool, calm, rugged exterior of this tall, handsome total legend of a person, he’s a big softy underneath. Clinton loves people, and as soon as you meet him, you feel seen, heard and valued. He really is interested in a person and their story, and this is reflected in the work he makes, whether this is at a wedding celebrating love, or on a commercial job where he captures the essence of a brandit’s all about people for Clinton. He is incredibly talented, and extremely humble. He has been part of our community for not too long a time, but he made an instant impression with his imagery celebrating same sex marriage, dynamic architectural wedding imagery, and his ability to capture whimsey and gentleness within his bold and strong frames. Plus, he’s just ridiculously awesome company. He is impeccably stylish, quick to laugh and even quicker to give a hug. He is fun, funny, kind and he really cares about celebrating others. My personal favourite moment that I have shared with Clinton, is last year, at the Iris Award Gala dinner, where our amazing president Katherine Williams was named NZIPP Photographer of the Year- he was a complete mess of tears, laughter, happiness and joy. This moment alone was worth being there. Who knows what will happen this year! But I sure want to be around this gem rock when it does. You do too!

GLEN HOWEY Award-winning professional photographer Glen Howey grew up in Christchurch, and as a boy he played rugby at Lancaster Park, now AMI Stadium, which was damaged by the 2011 earthquake and is now closed. A full-time professional photographer, he specialises in documentary, travel and landscape photography and also teaches at the Photo School in Wellington. In his own time he’s always loved photographing uninhabited buildings, finding an ‘eerie beauty’ in abandoned sites. “I genuinely felt like I was walking through an unseen history. History that has been hidden from us, not deliberately, just for safety reasons – but it’s a story that needs to be told. I feel exceptionally privileged to have seen the things I saw. It’s sad, it’s fascinating… I was moving around inside their world and that’s why I walked very delicately. I was very gentle in the way I approached things because they deserved that, they needed that. I was walking around in people’s memories.” www.glenhowey.co.nz
NATHAN MADIGAN “Nathan is a photographer and story designer, and the founder of Self Titled Studios, a magazine design business that wraps your everyday moments, and your epic lifetime events, into something tactile, accessible, and beautiful. He has a small team of creatives who never say no to new ideas or impossible concepts, and are all disturbingly passionate about typography. Nathan is art over science, and people over profit, and believes we all have exceptional life stories to tell. www.selftitledstudios.com

CRAIG WETJEN Craig Wetjen initiated the Men’s Shed Photography Project in 2010. Its aim is to increase awareness of men’s health issues—mental and physical—by documenting how the iconic backyard shed is a space not only for fixing things but also the men inside them. Most of the men captured in these images struggled to articulate what their sheds mean to them. In these cases images can speak more powerfully than words. The Project has now been published and titled ‘Men and Their Sheds’.
JAKE THOMAS Jake Thomas is a bogan Aussie, who married a kiwi beauty and has 3 amazing kids, who to his frustration consider themselves kiwis kids! Back in 2011, Jake moved to Waihi New Zealand from Newcastle Australia, to make ice-cream but ended up back in the wedding industry. In 2012 and 2014 he was awarded NZIPP Creative Wedding Photographer of the Year. For past year he and his family have been volunteering at a freedom business in Kolkata India. A business that provides freedom to women through employment that were trapped in the sex industry of Kolkata.
MIKE HILL Somewhere between being a Dad, playing squash, chain-sawing down trees, managing a farm and volunteer work for both the police and St johns Ambulance I have managed to fit in the odd wedding and portrait. I have some how turned my profession as a photographer back into a hobby allowing me more time to think about donuts and KFC and what style to wear my hair in.

AMBER GRIFFIN “When you grow up learning to dance competitively, the discipline, physical power and mindset required to achieve a level of artistry that can be appreciated by a discerning audience makes you very aware,” says award-winning photographer, Amber Griffin. Amber applies her personal dance awareness with meticulous sensitivity to craft vividly inspiring photographic artworks that are receiving repeated international recognition. Creating strikingly beautiful imagery has always been her ambition. Amber loves to collaborate with professional dancers and other artists, and has succesfully developed her own photographic niche by elevating both their vision and her own, through shared association and experimentation. Line, light and movement are her pimary focus when photographing dance, and Amber’s sensitivity to balancing these three crucial elements is what defines her awardwinning style. Amber’s style has developed through years of studio-based dance portraiture for both professional and developing dancers; often shooting portfolio work for pre-professional dancers as well as a multitute of performancebased dance events throughout New Zealand. After winning the 2015 WORLD PHOTOGRAPHIC CUP Gold Medal for Commercial Photography in Montpellier, France, (also the Highest Scoring Print that year), Amber held her first solo fine art exhibitions in Wellington and Auckland. In 2016, she was named both Commercial Photographer of the Year and Wellington Regional Photographer of the Year at the NZIPP Iris Awards. Amber is again a finalist in the Commercial Category of the 2017 World Photographic Cup, due to be announced in Yokohama, Japan, at the end of February. While the awards and creative outlet of holding exhibitions are wonderful, Amber also enjoys working with a variety of other long-term commercial and corporate clients. “I believe in measuring photographic success by my clients’ satisfaction. We’re all only ever as good as the last job we’ve undertaken, so I strive to approach every new challenge with the ambition that it will become my best work yet,” says Amber.

He has gone on to become a national and international award-winning photographer, and has self published two books of images of man’s best friend and their owner. He is now sharing his wealth of knowledge, passion and creativity teaching photography at Photography Studies College (Melbourne).

However, the journey his photography now takes him on is far more personal. He has initiated the Men’s Shed Photography Project in 2010.

DENIS SMITH
Denis Smith bought his first camera in 2009, and during the same year a huge life change saw him leave his home town of Auckland to make a new start in Adelaide, South Australia. The move away from Auckland and a high flying corporate life allowed Denis the time and space to deal with the depression, alcohol abuse and lifestyle that almost killed him. Photography quickly became the creative outlet that allowed him to replenish both mind and soul.
Within his remarkably short photography career, Denis has established a successful commercial photography and video production business, and has become an integral part of the global light painting community. He is renowned as one of the worlds most prolific light painters, and continues to inspire photographers of all ages and experience to explore and push the boundaries of their own creativity. Denis is super passionate about spreading the light around the globe, holding workshops across

ESTHER BUNNING
ESTHER BUNNING THE PATRON SAINT OF DEPRESSION AND OTHER STORIES Esther will share how a considerable part of her inspiration comes from the people she photographs, and images from her major project work over the last few years. The stories. The people. The brainstorming. The inspiration. The how-to. The finished products. And how she creates her layered imagery.
++ 11.15am | Day 1 | Sunday 18 June
JOINING THE DOTS Esther will delve into her layered imagery in more depth, and explain the ‘how to’ of how she creates: from brainstorming and joining the dots drawn from client conversations - through to image construction in camera and in post production. Be taken on a journey of creative intrigue with her effective methods. Often simple ideas, but complex in construction. Forget automation - this is all manual, from technical to technique. And leave your pre-disposed ideas on what a photograph is, at the door.

Esther grew up on a dairy farm in Taranaki, New Zealand, and her love of atmospheric & soft, dreamy realities is surely a throwback to this rural world. Her portraits may have soft lines, chalky hues and moody enigma, or bright pops of colour to show humour and energy. Esther’s striking style unites her creative eye, her fluid use of colour and her knack of capturing people with a hint of mystery and layers of life. She draws her inspiration from the people she photographs and while she’s a sucker for a smile with her day-to-day work, she’s at her happiest when she can introduce a touch of blur, movement or layering to an image. Her strength is being able to join the dots using people’s stories as a starting point. Esther’s self-confessed shyness is undoubtedly a part of her reflective imagery however years of photographing weddings (not to mention having three younger sisters!) have taught her how to gently coerce and boss people around, when required, for a great photograph.

KELLY TUNNEY
@KellyTunneyPhotographer
Born and raised in Canberra, a current hotbed of fine photography in Australia. Kelly Tunney originally followed a traditional path, but a couple of years working as a public servant soon cured her of that. After deciding that the clarinet was not her way to fame and fortune (no, that realisation didn’t come on band camp), Kelly decided that photography was her way to be awesome, and it’s been her life ever since.
@kellytunney
Her images embody the way she relates to the world – they’re candid, honest, fearless and warm; and they always manage to find the amazing in everyone. Kelly relishes in the agony and ecstasy of imagining and creating contrasts to play with in her images. She secretly enjoy the rush that comes with the fear of pushing boundaries as far as they can be moved. She is the co-founder of All Grown Up Photography Group with
fellow photographer and mate, Dan O’Day. Even though she’s kind of short, don’t let that fool you, it just means that she gets a better angle on the world than everyone else. Kelly is also the current 2016 ACT Professional Photographer of the Year and also, the 2015 AIPP Australian Wedding Photographer of the Year (the first Female to ever win the prestigious award in it’s 40+ year history)
KELLY TUNNEY CONFIDENCE, TRUST AND KICKASS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY Creatives always want to try new ideas and extend their creativity just about every single day. But how do you find creative confidence and how do we hang on to it for the long haul? Finding what will work for you is important - maybe it’s not through awards, but it’s other forms of experimentation or reinventing yourself and your brand. Maybe you want to expand your business and experiment with new business models.

These features could be a pronounced nose, large forehead, large chin, glasses, round face, double chin, asymmetrical features, bald head, defined wrinkles and more. It is imperative when you photograph them that you are able to do so with confidence! THE ANONYMOUS MAN Create an intriguing delve into the constructions of our urban existence. Combining an interest in minimalist lines and dichotomies, the fleeting figure in each creates a narrative full of intrigue. Without the figure, each image reconstructs the space of our urban framework, asking the viewer to acknowledge the structures that support this existence. The addition of the figure enables the viewing experience to become personal, as we imagine our own journeys through urban space, and the mysterious journeys of all those whom pass us by. As we build higher and denser within the urbanised world we forget that we remain small and some what insignificant to what we are building. This is a series of images based around the idea that we become more and more anonymous within the urbanised world not only with what we build, where we work but also how we communicate. The series depicts the pressures, the freedoms and the unexpectedness of of our urbanised worlds shown through the arresting and simplicity of the architecture and the insignificance of life pushed to the very corners of the frame.

MARK ROSSETTO Mark Rossetto is a qualified Life and Business Coach and practitioner of NLP, also a Master Photographer with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). He has won over 50 international, national and state photography awards, and also founded and was president of the Melbourne Wedding Group. At the age of 25, Mark had a dream of running his own photography studio. However, he quickly realised that he needed far more than just great photography skills to run a successful business. Mark hired a coach to help him develop the mindset and strategic direction needed to turn his
passion for photography from a hobby to a home business, then into his Melbourne studio all within 18 months. Mark and his team were photographing approximately 500 family portraits per year and they capped their wedding bookings to only 20 weddings per year. 7 years later, Mark successfully sold his studio and took a sea-change to QLD with his wife and two children. He is passionate about helping people succeed in life and business, and he personally knows the difference that having a coach can make. So much so, that he has now become one himself!
