Presidents Report

Infocus 2011 Rotorua – just two months away! We have quite an event lined up for you! Because I’m not a wedding shooter I have to admit to not really knowing of our Keynote Speakers, but when our Wedding Director Nicola Inglis declares she’d “sell her grandmother” to hear them speak you know they’re gonna be great! Steve & Jen Bebb or “The Bebbs” as they’re more widely known, hail from Canada & are considered to be in the top 10 of wedding photographers in the world. Also coming to you live will be Queensland’s 2011 AIPP Wedding Photographer of the Year Todd Hunter McGaw (actually it wasn’t too hard to twist his arm to come & speak in the mountain biking capital of the world!); expat Sydney based portrait shooter extraordinaire Sue Bryce – she has just returned from wowing audiences at WPPI; Elisabeth Soffe will explain social media for your business, & if you’re dabbling with HDSLR video you won’t want to miss Chirstchurch’s Logan McMillan of Gorilla Pictures. And don’t think you can just sit back & listen! Kaye Davies from UCOL will be getting your creative juices flowing with a conceptual thinking workshop; we’ll need you participation in the marketing open forum, & there’ll be concurrent workshops running for Commercial, Wedding, & Portrait shooters on Monday. There’s a couple more we’re waiting on signed speaker contracts from too, but hopefully the line-up above is enough to make you want to sign up immediately. It’s fair to say it’s been quite a mission this year securing speakers with several who we talked to last year about speaking having to pull out for very valid reasons – like earthquakes & floods! Those of you who attended last year in Queenstown will know the event was really stepped up in terms of running the event professionally & our feedback was overwhelmingly positive. That was also evident when Arna & I spent a couple of days in Auckland recently visiting all our key sponsors. With the tough economic times we expected it to be a hard sell this year, but everyone we visited was exceedingly positive, loved the event last year, & are supportive of the event again this year. Epson have signed on as Principal Sponsor for another couple of years, & we have exceptional support again from HP, Canon, Aarque Graphics, Nulab & a couple of other’s who are still considering their sponsorship levels. One thing we’ve had to do this year (for the first time in over 3 years) with all the rising costs is pass those onto our delegates with an increased registration fee. For early bird members that will be $395, & for those who leave it until the last minute it will be $495. We still think this is exceptionally good value for money, with many other professional conferences charging that for a half-day seminar. In fact if it wasn’t for our sponsors it would cost you well over $1,000 to attend! So start watching for Grabaseats, look at sharing holiday homes with other members for accommodation, and get in early!! Remember it’s a fully deductable business expense & something you should consider as essential for your continuing professional development as a photographer. The first time I ever saw print judging at the Iris Awards (or anywhere for that matter) was the year I entered. It was 2007 and I had been a member for a year and I don’t know what possessed me to think I was ready! Looking back I think I was fortunate in my ignorance actually, because I didn’t know that I was hopelessly far from the standard I just went ahead and boldly (perhaps stupidly) entered 10 prints that I liked. I didn’t ask anyone’s advice and I certainly didn’t show them to anyone in my region who might have been able to save me some money! I just entered them. There was a ridiculous comedy of errors involved in getting to the Heritage Hotel where the judging was taking place so that I arrived, stress and frazzled, after the walk through. The rooms were already dark and full of the backs of people’s heads. The were two rooms going simultaneously, and I had prints entered in both categories being judged. Because I had missed the walk through (having not even known it was important) I had no idea when my prints would come up. So I chose the ‘wedding room’ and a seat near the back. Up the front some guy whose face I didn’t recognize was talking about a print in a way I’d never heard anyone talk before about wedding photography. He was passionate and eloquent and he talked about the story it told and he waved his arms around. Print after print was displayed and judged. Between the darkened room and the five ‘priests’ up the front I felt like I was in church. Of course within about ten prints it became blindingly obvious that my images were not going to score well. Once I could see with my own eyes the standard of those that got medals (and those that didn’t) I could see that mine didn’t match up. It should have bothered me but it didn’t. I felt inspired, I could see what the next step, and the ones beyond that, looked like. I sat there and soaked up every word. I swear I didn’t move for about four hours until hunger, and the need to pee, forced me out into the real world again. It’s such a cliche but my head was spinning. I sat in a cafe down the street and tried to summarize what I’d seen and heard. I wrote pages and pages of notes but in the end I decided it all came down to the story. The images that stood out and the ones that scored well were the ones that had something to say. Now maybe I’m a slow learner for not having realized that sooner. Maybe it doesn’t sound like much of an epiphany to anyone else. Maybe I even missed the main point and that’s not the secret to Iris Awards success at all. But it changed the way I photograph weddings. Just like that. So to recap I did everything wrong...I arrived late, entered prints before I was ready, knew almost no one, and knew nothing about the judging process... and yet it was (and still is) one of the best, most influential, game changing experiences in my photographic life.

Bugger. Today’s Monday. For some, waking up this particular Monday was a big disappointment because Judgement Day didn’t actually happen. For me it’s a disappointment because the PROREPORT deadline is imminent and I was holding off until the last minute hedging by bets with a dollar each way and not doing it earlier. The good news is that I now have a whole 1 hour and 40 minutes of relative peace and quiet this morning as I fly up to Rotorua for a shoot. Unless you have been living in a cave (or a walled compound in Pakistan) you will know that Rotorua is this year’s location of Infocus. No matter were you are based in New Zealand don’t use cost as an excuse to not attend. There is a great line-up of presenters, and there will be plenty of opportunities to network with other photographers and trade suppliers. Can you afford to not attend? There are still plenty of good deals if you plan to fly. When checking out flights also consider flying into Hamilton or Tauranga as there are often better flight times and deals into these centers, and you could hitch a lift with another attendee. A thread on the NZIPP Facebook page <http://www.facebook.com/NZIPP> recently concerned a photographer who had passed off others work as their own. The images had been lifted from the photographers website. Placing your work online is a damned if you do, damned of you don’t, Catch 22 situation. The saving and redistribution of images by others is easy even if you have used ways to thwart theft. The methods employed to prevent theft may include disabling “right click” or “save image as” functionality, placing a transparent image over the photo, using Adobe Flash (but this limits viewability on most mobile devices), adding copyright metadata, adding hidden “Digimark” watermarking or physical, visible watermarking. No matter what method you use they can all be circumvented. You can also reduce the size of the image so that it can’t be enlarged too much, or get aggressive with your JPEG compression so that the image quality is limited. The problem is that doing this also affects the quality and perception on your own legitimate website. A couple of years ago I heard an Australian fashion photographer, Georges Antoni speak <http://www.georgesantoni.com>. He has had a meteoric rise from being a male model to a star of the fashion photographic world. His attitude was that a download for personal enjoyment or inspiration was a compliment and he doesn’t get all cut up about it. If the image is used for any commercial purpose (including editorial), he’ll throw the book at them. I suggest that your images should be of a decent enough size to do them justice on screen with the optimal compression to allow for fast loading without degrading quality. Do use highly visible watermarks that carry your name and URL but not so harsh that they wreck the viewers experience or appreciation of the work. An image downloaded and forwarded to another for personal use is effectively an advertisement for you. What’s worse, being talked about or not being talked about? While I don’t condone people stealing and reproducing images for commercial gain I think that you need to consider what’s more important, getting your images out there or not? If you do find commercial use infringements don’t let people away with it. If you let them do it once, they try it again, and again, and again.

“When considering compensation, do NOT accept a by-line/ credit as payment.”

I’ve heard all sorts of excuses over the years from people who have used images without permission. When considering compensation do NOT accept a by-line/credit as payment, this is your moral right that a publisher must do, it’s not a bonus or benefit. But remember that not all settlements need to be cash. Consider the ability to trade use of the image for advertising (as long as it will reach your target market), or even turn a tricky situation into an opportunity such as offering to refund a cash settlement now if they engage you for a paid shoot within a certain time frame in the future, this means you get paid now, and possibly add a new client long term. Whatever you decide just remember that you do need to show people your past work to get more future work. There is no 100% certain way to get your images in front of clients without potentially exposing a risk to misuse. Don’t let this small risk be the reason that prevents you from gaining the potentially bigger upside.

What a lovely time of year to be taking pictures. Autumn is a given of course in its splendor, but it leads into winter, a time I always enjoy shooting in. With the light often diffused & moody, lovely even exposures are to be had, sometimes at any angle. New whizz bang cameras can operate where we found it hard to go before. I like to give a few choices of background mood when I photograph my clients out here at the farm. Speckled light on leaves in the background, used well gives a nice romantic feel to an image. Placing clients in open light using cross light for texture, to the shadows, softer & even, with this one background, gives two distinct feelings sometimes hard for them to choose from. Having skin tones, lit by nature, jump out of a darker background that has subtle movement in it, is always good to the eye. Shallow depth of field, & our postproduction abilities means you get your cake & eat it too. You can expose perfectly for skin, & work the background ratio’s up or down to your liking later. I always like to get darker skinned people, clothed in darker tones, against a darker backdrop at least as one choice for them. The result always does wonders for their eyes & smiles. The darker skin loves light moving over it, with rim lighting etc less likely to over expose. The background darker still allows the skin to glow against it, but be complimentary with it. Indian women in sari’s are hard to beat. But their gorgeous doe eyed kids are harder still. The starkness of the nude trees, provides a strength not seen in summer, the linear verticals of the poplars in council parks, to the maze of fruit trees in a clients backyard are all opportunities .Not to be considered distractions, but used to take our eyes to our subjects. I like also that winter clothing is more voluminous. So much more texture & light play to be had, than just a white t- shirt & jeans. I’m a touchy feely kinda human, so often my clients are cajoled into manifesting their love for each other. The simple act of a quiet hug, has most of the visible creases following that action, enhancing & guiding our eye to each person. Bulkier clothing & hugging, quiet or not, is a match made in heaven. No more fatty dangles on ladies arms, & the old man’s lack of abdominal control nay a bother!!! Cityscapes too are not to be ignored .The subdued grey’s in concrete & the like, very complimentary to the steelier tones of winter fashion. The inherent “ grooviness’ of urban backdrops, gets buy in from the teens, & makes it easier for mum to part with the readies. Who cares if the littlies start to look like a pumpkin patch brochure, mum & dad love it. So when we are working hard to book winter clients, use the seasons uniqueness to excite them. It happens to be true, but whenever the client brings up the ‘ol weather chestnut, I say I hardly ever lose a shoot due to weather. Auckland especially four seasons in a day. We want them in front of our lenses, & never before has it been easier to get a great result in any conditions. Remember, if it’s a quieter time for you, book your time smart. Squash all the activities together. Take the rest of the bloody time off or market or whatever. I can just taste that pea and ham soup now!!

Honours Council Report

We are now only a little more than two months away from the Iris Awards in Rotorua. On line entries are being activated on the 02 June and will close on the 25 July and it is essential that you read closely the call for entry document, as there are new changes and additions this year. In all there are now fifteen prizes to be won, including the prestigious Epson / NZIPP Professional Photographer of the Year. To be eligible for this you need to enter a minimum of 6 images. To be eligible to win the following awards you need to enter a minimum of three images into each category: Commercial / Advertising, Creative, Editorial / Photojournalism, Travel, Landscape, Wedding, plus we now have two portrait categories: Classic Portrait and Creative Portrait. Other awards include: Overseas Professional Photographer of the Year Award (minimum of four images), Highest Scoring Colour Print Award, Highest Scoring Monochrome Print Award (both of which need to be ticked in order to be considered), Wedding Album Award and the Student/Assistant Award (minimum of two images). It appears that some members are already starting to think about entering the awards this year as I have been receiving many enquiries wishing to know where they stand in terms of award levels and wishing to know how many of what they need to become an Associate, Master, Fellow or in a couple of cases Grand Master. To do this yourself you need to do the following:

Login using your membership id and password. If you can’t remember your password click the Forgot Password link, enter your member id/ username, and you will receive a reply by E-mail containing your password that you should record somewhere safe along with your membership number (which you can find on your membership card). If you don’t know your membership id then email web@nzipp.org.nz for assistance.

Once logged in click on the profile menu item, then click on the Awards tab. Here you will find out what awards you currently have from previous entries.

At the top is your Honours Summary i.e. Associate, Master, Fellow + bars

Followed by your Awards Summary. You’ll notice there is a 4-year activity> 10 points: Yes or No. What this indicates is whether or not you have gained the necessary 10 points in the last 4 years in order to be valid to achieve another Honour (Master, Fellow etc) this year.

At this point you’ll need to do your own calculations to work out exactly what awards you will need in terms of gold, silver and bronze awards to achieve your next level this year.

The Help button on the top right hand side of the screen provides details of exactly what you need for each level.

It’s now three months since the Christchurch earthquake struck. Christchurch based NZIPP members who were financial at the time of the quake have been given a three month waiver of membership subscriptions by the NZIPP Board. Even better news is that through the generosity of other members and the regions there have been a good number of donations to further help members in paying their subs. Christchurch members will be getting their subs invoices most likely later this month that will show an adjustment for the national subscription waiver and a pro-rata adjustment from the contributions made by other members and regions. Many Christchurch members are finding trading conditions trying. When you are paying the remaining balance of your subs remember just how much your peers and the institute has helped over this time.

Black & White Spider Awards

NZIPP member Derek Cook has been presented with the Winner - Merit of Excellence Award in the Professional Architecture category at the 6th Annual Black & White Spider Awards. The awards international Jury included captains of the industry from Magnum Photos, The Armory Show, Fratelli Alinari, Contrasto to Tate and Hamiltons in London who honoured Spider Fellows with 84 coveted title awards in 28 categories. The judges reviewed the entries online for eight weeks before making their final nominations. Derek’s “Le Louvre”, entered in the Professional Architecture category, was described as an exceptional image and received a high percentage of votes overall. Derek was also nominated in the professional People and Fine Art categories. This is the third time Derek has entered these awards and on each occasion he has won nominations in a variety of categories. In 2009 Derek also received a Winners - Honourable mention in the Nature (professional) category. “The Spider Awards celebrates photographers who operate at the highest levels of their craft,” said Basil O’Brien, the awards Creative Director. “Derek’s work represents black and white photography at its finest, and we’re pleased to present him with the Winner - Merit of Excellence.” Image © Derek Cook

James White Overseas Study Grant

The James White Overseas Study Grant is an award of $5000 to be used for the study of an area of photographic interest overseas. All fully qualified members of the NZIPP are entitled to apply for the Grant which is awarded annually. A Selection Panel reviews each application in light of its relevance to NZIPP members, and the ability of the applicant to impart to the membership any benefits or knowledge received from overseas training.

CPD Overview

Continuing Professional Development

As a result of on going discussions with the NZIPP Board & at P&P Meetings, we believe the time has come for the NZIPP to step things up beyond a simple “Qualified Member” status. The current Q assessments & Qualified status currently means little to the photography buying public. We’ve been striking issues where long time qualified members are no longer current in their photography practices, but still advertise themselves as a “Qualified Member”. This has led to complaints from members & customers. We need a system where members’ professional standards are reviewed on a regular basis to provide credibility within our membership & the buying public. To support Accreditation the NZIPP must have a formalised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme. This is common in other industries such as Architecture & Accounting, where members annually achieve a “points” to maintain membership & advertise themselves as professional members. This program would also encourage active involvement by all members at regional & national events, & raise the bar of professional photography in NZ. We’ve tried to make the targets for NZIPP Accreditation achievable for members both in terms of time & costs – for example you can earn a large portion of points annually by attending Infocus or most of your regional meetings. Likewise entering prints into the Iris Awards will count towards photographic standards. We’ve also allowed for a component of “self administrated” development including reading of photography magazines or belonging to online forums. To keep things simple we’ve set an annual CPD achievement of 100 points & a Photographic requirement to achieve 10 Iris Award professional standards over a 4 year period, or submission of a “Q” Portfolio for review every 4 years. The system will be managed by a new “module” within our current Membership system. We anticipate randomly auditing 5% of the members annually to ensure they are completing CPD components they claim to be doing, & anyone who has a formal complaint brought against them would automatically be audited. The Q assessment program will still exist for entry into the NZIPP as a qualified member at a base level. “Accredited Member” status would replace the Qualified status tagline for members with Qualified no longer used. Full qualified members who aren’t Accredited would still be able to display the NZIPP logo. The Honours programme of Associate, Master, & Fellow will continue in its current format. We believe there will be significant marketing advantages for NZIPP Accredited photographers. Particularly in terms of professional credibility, & separating themselves from non-members & the “weekend warriors” in the industry. This obviously becomes a good incentive for other photographers to become members of the NZIPP. The programme would ensure NZIPP could confidently market Accredited members to the public as being up to scratch both creatively & with business practices. Currently it’s difficult to do this with “Qualified” status because there’s no review process or time limits placed on being Qualified. A draft proposal has been tabled at the recent NZIPP Policy & Planning meeting in Wellington, and we would appreciate if the proposal could be discussed at your next Regional Meeting, and feedback sent to the NZIPP board (E: info@ nzipp.org.nz) by mid July. The plan is to present a final CPD document for approval at the 2011 AGM. Craig Robertson NZIPP President

ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENTS: The pupose of the CPD programme is to raise and maintain the standards of professional photography in New Zealand resulting in good faith, professional practice and security to fellow members and members of the public. Members must achieve the following requirements to achieve/maintain their Accreditation. Every 4 Years: Within the last 4 years Photographic Standards met. (See deatils below).

Regional Updates Auckland Region At our May meeting “Expose Yourself”, three executive committee members revealed their inspirations and style as they shared their imagery. The evening started off with Gino Demeer who is our new Treasurer. Gino is best known for his work in the field of Body Art Photography. He also talked about his experiences as a sports and commercial photographer, and showed us some of his wedding imagery from over the years. Next up was Luci Harrison. Luci has a Master of Photography with the NZIPP and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Elam School, Auckland University. With over 20 years of experience as a professional wedding and portrait photographer, she has an in-depth photographic knowledge. Luci was awarded the James White Scholarship in 1988. She has won Gold and Silver Iris awards and Kodak Gold awards. Luci’s photography has been published in the books ‘ Like An Apple A Day’ and ‘Like Chocolate For Women’. Luci shared her story and her very inspiring images. We also got to meet some of the other photographers that work with her, some of whom experienced the recent tornado when it hit their Albany studio. The key speaker of the evening was Chris Traill. Chris is well known to most of us but reintroduced himself to the newer members and shared his award winning images. He talked about his experiences and knowledge from working in the industry for over 30 years. He has a very impressive collection of images and has photographed many famous local and international celebrities. Chris has a passion for photographing people which was evident in his work. He also shared his beautiful work from a recent gallery exhibition of foliage and landscapes. We are very privileged to have passionate and inspiring members on the executive committee. The new team includes chairperson Talia Stephens, treasurer Gino Demeer, secretary Leanie Ferreira, members Lisa Crandall, Luci Harrison, and returning members Chris Traill and Sean Dick. Our goal as the new committee is to deliver high value knowledge, inspiration and support to our members. We have two exciting events happening in Auckland in June. The first event is the Opening of the Epson/NZIPP Iris Professional Photography Awards 2010 Exhibition at the Vero Centre, 48 Shortland Street, Auckland on 08 June. Be inspired by cutting-edge imagery from NZ’s top professional photographers. This travelling exhibition is part of the Auckland Festival of Photography, and the opening night is one of the ‘must go’ social events of the year for Auckland photographers. The second event is ‘Taking your images to the next level’ with Michel Perrin at Studio Lumiere, 5 Farnham Street, Auckland on 14 June. Michel will be sharing his knowledge and techniques on how to create stunning images.

Michel is the 2010 Auckland Photographer of the Year and has achieved the prestige of Fellow with the NZIPP. Following his presentation, critiques will be offered on images submitted by members. Regional Updates Wellington Region Wellington has squeezed two meetings into May. The first event was a look at HD Video with Mark Bellringer, the new Chair of Central Districts and based in New Plymouth. Mark discussed, demonstrated the equipment he uses and was able to give very well experienced advice on how and when stills photographers should approach the moving image. It was evident by the big attendance and range of questions that this is of great interest to our members ... and others. A very well presented seminar. He was supported by Chris McCarthy showing us his amazing iPhone application. Chris is a Wellington commercial photographer and also a partner in ‘The Design’ a Wellington digital consultancy. As an interest they developed PhotoTutor Module 1 as an introduction to DSLR cameras and it has become a very successful iPhone/iPod App - see it on http://www. islap101.com/ And a very big thank you to Tony Reisima and Wellington Photographic Supplies for hosting the evening, and some insight into the latest photographic gear. The second May event will take place almost as you read this. At the end of the month the NZIPP Board have their regular Board Meeting and the annual Policy and Planning meetings in Wellington. This is a rare opportunity to meet the Board and Directors in person, in one place, and hear what they have to say about this year’s Infocus, to be held in August in Rotorua. It is in the form of a meal and a Q & A Session. Our committee has prepared a ‘Mentoring Programme’ for presentation to the National Executive as part of our commitment to ‘Develop & Lobby the first initiative to take to Policy & Planning this year’. We would volunteer to pilot such a programme.

28 June 2011 – A Print Critique Evening with Guest Judges This year the “ NZIPP Wellington Photographer of the Year” will be the member with the highest aggregate score of their four top scoring prints at Infocus 2011 to be held in Rotorua. Whoever wins this will keep the Wellington cup for one year and be able to advertise as “NZIPP 2011 Wellington Photographer of the Year” Believe me it looks darn good on the bottom of your emails! Anything fishy...people in industry...textures, moody low light and long shadows, backlit, anything that could make weird and wonderful faces when mirrored, agricultural, foody stuff for stock, creating illustrative / conceptual layered work. What do you love about the professional photographic industry? I like the fact that when I started shooting we were waving 4x5 hand held cameras around and twenty 5x4 double dark slides took up a whole gadget bag and now the equivalent plus 100 more will fit on a tin wee stick! The change is mind boggling, what a roller coaster ride! Something that makes you grumpy? Getting my finger caught between the camera and tripod when I forgot to lock it off, ouch, oh yes and the wind, I’m not to fond of power cuts crashing my mac either. Website or blog site that you enjoy? I should probably should spend more time surfing the net, but to be honest I can’t find the time, sometimes Esther shows me a startling (photographers) website that makes me feel “when I grow up I want to be a photographer” Are you a collector of anything? Vintage clothing, at 56 I am continually looking for retro stuff, like many baby boomers I find balance in mixing contemporary with retro stuff interesting. Name one thing not many people know about you: I am very shy...Red/green colorblind, dyslexic and I can’t spell to save myself, although I guess Wellington members will already know that if they read my newsletters! Photo Competitions Epson/ NZIPP Iris Professional Photography Awards 2011 Entries Close: 25 July 2011 Organised by the NZIPP for more than 30 years, these annual awards which are part of the Infocus 2011 event, celebrate the excellence of New Zealand’s professional photographers, providing a platform for recognition within the industry and the wider public. The Epson / NZIPP Iris Professional Photography Awards demonstrate the commitment of the NZIPP to raise the profile of professional photography throughout New Zealand, providing an annual showcase of cutting-edge imagery and creative photographic talent, which, together with the NZIPP conference and industry exhibition, form the Infocus event. The Iris Awards are open to ALL professional photographers resident in New Zealand, including members of the professional photography organisations AIPA and NZIPP. All professional entrants resident in New Zealand are eligible to win the prestigious title of Epson / NZIPP Professional Photographer of the Year 2011, as well as other major awards, by entering up to 10 entries across a range of categories. Canon’s EYEcon returns for 2011 Registrations Close: 1 September 2011 Entries are now open for New Zealand’s most talented emerging photographers in the 2011 Canon EYEcon photographic competition. Canon EYEcon 2011 will give tertiary photography students & apprentice photographers the chance to win an enviable prize pack of Canon product & cash as well as the unique opportunity to gain experience, insight & inspiration by spending a day with three of the country’s top photographers: Chris Sisarich, Hannah Johnston & NZIPP member Johannes van Kan. As well as the experience day with the Canon mentors, the overall winner of the competition will receive $4,000 Canon dollars, a Canon PIXMA Pro 9500 Mark II Printer, $1,000 cash, an A2 large format print of their choice & a year’s membership with NZIPP and AIPA. The Missing Links

Last weekend I produced an AV for the Gala Awards event of the ReelEarth Environmental Film Festival. They are in their 7th year; this is my 3rd production with them. It is the largest environmental film festival in the Southern Hemisphere & attracts entries in a number of categories from all over the world. Visit www.reelearth.org.nz This year the awards were MC’d by Lisa Chappell & musical backing was by a great new band, ‘Smokey Feel’. My production had over 6 gigs of HD content in Keynote running off a very fast MacBookPro. We even switched seamlessly to a presentation by guest speaker Rod Oram that he ran from a new 11 inch MacBook Air...& back again. Most important though was large venue projection now that is almost expected. Not just the 12 foot screen on the stage with black drapes & rear projection that you see at most conferences. This was the full monty, front projection onto a 50 ft wide screen.....& a full ‘concert’ sound system. These days the audience, the festival competitors & the sponsors deserve it. That ‘deserve it’ philosophy needs to be applied at every level in your business & how images appear to your client needs to respect that as well.
