OUR PURPOSE Master Plumbers is a national membership organisation representing around 70 percent of all registered plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers in New Zealand. Our members play a vital role within the construction sector.

Master Plumbers members commit to a Code of Conduct and Code of Practice, which promotes best business practice, professional standards and ethical behaviour. There are many reasons why New Zealanders should hire a Master Plumber. Members are reputable, well-established companies that have passed strict criteria in terms of business conduct. These are part of a Quality Assurance (QA) review. The QA process educates and supports new and existing members to reach the very highest standards

of professionalism, health and safety, quality, business skills and training.

All members must have a Certifying Plumber, Gasfitter and/or Drainlayer on the team. They are responsible for ensuring their work, and the work of those they supervise, is done correctly. With most of our members being small to medium businesses, Master Plumbers is constantly striving to find new ways to support them and help them grow. Homeowners using a Master Plumber have the considerable comfort of knowing that the work comes with the Master Plumbers Guarantee. This consumer guarantee covers advance payment protection and substandard workmanship. We want all members to be the best they can be – for their customers, staff and their overall business success.


BRANDING Master Plumbers provide you with complimentary decals, logos and templates to match your own vehicle branding. You can also use the Master Plumbers logo downloads to promote your membership on your website and other communications, such as email signatures, social media channels, quotations, invoices, business cards, signage and uniforms.

Vehicle signage templates are available to customise your vehicles and promote you are a Master Plumber.

GUARANTEE Master Plumbers provide you with a toolkit of resources to help you promote the Master Plumbers Guarantee.

Plumbing peace of mind

When you use a Master Plumber, their work is covered by our Master Plumbers Guarantee for 12 months*, giving you peace of mind. The Guarantee applies to all residential plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying work carried out by a Master Plumber, up to $15,000 including GST.

Consumer research has shown that Quality Assurance and the Master Plumbers Guarantee are the primary reasons consumers choose to use a Master Plumber.

The Master Plumbers Guarantee covers: 1.

Advance payment – If you have paid for work that can’t be completed due to the Master Plumber going into liquidation or bankruptcy, we will ensure the work you have paid for is completed.

Substandard workmanship – If we accept your claim that work done for you is not up to the standard expected by a Master Plumber, we will arrange for the work to be remedied.

QUALITY ASSURANCE We will assess your business practices, ensuring you meet the membership criteria and uphold the levels of professionalism we require of our members.

The Quality Assurance Review covers: • Health and Safety • Quality of business practice • Quality of HR practices • Public liability insurance • Equipment safety and management • Intended use of the Master Plumbers logo and brand. On successful completion of the review, you’ll have full access to our services, information and support.

INSURANCE As a Master Plumber you must have Public Liability insurance.

There are also insurance options to protect those working as subcontractors for head contractors. INDUSTRY ADVOCACY Master Plumbers members receive regular emails and video updates from Master Plumbers CEO Greg Wallace to keep members up to date with key advocacy information.

Master Plumbers advocates for members and the wider industry. Master Plumbers was established in 1901 to protect, develop and promote the interests of the plumbing trade. Today, Master Plumbers continues to provide a collective voice for the industry through regular meetings with government, regulatory authorities and training providers. Advocacy work currently includes preventing substandard plumbing products being imported unchecked into New Zealand, and lobbying for self certification for plumbers and drainlayers.
