A FOOD POETRY BANQUET 19 YRS+

Food offers us a rich and diverse source of inspiration for poems: food history, family traditions, sustainability, nutrition and health, food gardens, recipes, food and travel, the politics of food, and much more. In this workshop, we will discuss poems celebrating and exploring food by poets such as Lorna Crozier, Sylvia Plath, Pablo Neruda, and Thomas Lux, and then use prompts or food props to write our own poems. Participants are invited to bring a food object (or photo!) or favourite food poem that they find poetically inspiring to share with the group.

Join Terry Ann Carter for a haiku and tanka workshop including match box minis to house these small poems. Each participant will leave with a small book art gem. Optional reading before the workshop: The Art of Haiku by Dr. Stephen Addiss, and The Ink Dark Moon: Love Tanka by Ono no Komachi and Izumi Shikibu, translated by Jane Hirshfield and Mariko Aratani.
