There is something very satisfying about rendering in pen and ink, be it black on white paper, or sepia, a classic. Whatever colour you choose, there is such an amazing range of available colours that you will be dazzled! Join Bryony in this workshop to draw in the classical way or swoosh in some water with a big brush and create some gorgeous effects. INTRODUCTION TO CALLIGRAPHY 19 YRS+

Have you always wanted to learn calligraphy? It all starts with learning how to draw the correct guidelines, form the stroke sequence of the lettering style, and be open to spending time on practice. Just like taking up a musical instrument! In this workshop, we study the formal style called Uncial. We begin with a pencil to learn the forms then move on to a calligraphy felt marker. Other tools and supplies will be discussed. Kathy will have reference material and examples at the workshop. Bring a pencil, ruler, eraser, blank paper and $5 for a felt pen, paper samples and instruction kit. This program is suitable for all levels of skill.

In this workshop, you will learn three calligraphy “fun fonts”. These styles are easy to learn and quick to apply to projects like greeting cards, gift tags, food labels, text in artwork, and more. You will also use watercolour paints to create colourful backgrounds for cards to make in-class. Kathy will have samples of her work done in these styles and other reference material. INTRODUCTION TO QUILLING 19 YRS+

This workshop will teach the basics of quilling - the art of paper filigree. It involves rolling strips of paper into different shapes and combining them to make flowers and leaves etc. which we will then use to make a greeting card. Basic supplies will be provided. This mixed media workshop will include an introduction to Gelli plate printing. Simple unique prints or journal pages will be created using a special plate and acrylic paint. Layering techniques such as stamping, stencilling, and collaging are used to further enhance the prints. Finished pages can be collated into the start of a unique and personal art journal. Learn how to use a variety of bookbinding methods to create handmade art, writing, or travel journals using a needle, awl, and waxed thread. Several simple bookbinding stitches will be taught so that you can easily create and bind your journals. You will be able to make square back books with rigid spines or simple folded spine books.
