Early Morning Drop-in Fitness

Start your day off right! The Neighbourhood Learning Centre, located in the southwest corner of the Oak Bay High School, hosts prework drop-in programs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 6:15-7:00am. These programs aim to improve your cardio and strength with a variety of equipment used. As space is limited, we recommend pre-registering. If you are paying drop-in, please go first to Oak Bay Recreation Centre.

Hatha Yoga at Henderson Recreation Centre

Gentle Hatha Yoga is a restorative form of yoga that invites you to try gentle yoga postures and breath work. The focus is to gently warm-up major joints, improve balance and flexibility, and return to present movement awareness. The program is designed for all body types with both beginner and intermediate students welcome.

These classes combine exercise stations of cardio equipment, strength equipment, BOSUs, TRX, and free weights to create a fun and balanced workout. Stations incorporate a variety of training methods to add variety and progression to your workouts that will challenge and motivate with no choreography required!

Personal Training

Personal Training is an excellent way to improve your overall fitness, stay motivated and revamp your existing program. A Registered Personal Trainer will work with you one on one to design a specialized workout program specific to your needs and fitness goals. Learn proper form and technique to reduce injury and enhance your results.

Youth Weight Room Orientation for Ages 13–14 Years

This two-hour orientation for youth ages 13-14 years will provide youth with an introduction to safely use the weight room. Etiquette and basic workout parameters will be covered and upon completion of this course, participants will be permitted access to the following weight rooms: Oak Bay Recreation Centre, Esquimalt Recreation Centre, City of Victoria Recreation Centre, Saanich Recreation Centre, and West Shore Recreation Centre. After completing this course, youth can enter the Oak Bay Recreation weight room with a parent present or when an attendant is on duty. Specific rules may apply at different recreation centres. Please wear appropriate weight room attire, close toed shoes and bring a towel and water. See page 37 for registration information.

Fitness Studio Orientations for 15 YRS+

New to fitness? Been away for a while? Sign up for a general fitness studio orientation that will give you an overview of our Fitness Studio rules, etiquette, and equipment or provide a refresher for those who have been away. Review strength and cardio equipment (both set-up and technique). Please bring appropriate weight room attire, close toed shoes, and water. Par-Q health clearance form required. General Public: $15 Annual Passholder: FREE

YOGA NIDRA 15 YRS+

The instructor is a trained yoga therapist (ICYT) and the focus of the classes is on long, slow stretching intended to open up joints and connective tissues, for deep relaxation, cultivating mindfulness, and increasing flexibility. The class is followed by the practice of Yoga Nidra often called the "meditative heart of yoga" which is an ancient yogic technique to learn the art of self-relaxation, traditionally used to balance the body and mind. Dress warmly and make sure to bring a blanket. New students are always welcome.

The Tensegrity Repair Series is designed to hydrate and loosen connective tissues (fascia) to ease old holding patterns and facilitate ease of movement. Tensegrity (tension + integrity) describes the interconnection of ligaments, tendons, muscles and organs as it relates to tension and compression of the body.

A moderate intensity, no impact class working with a ballet barre and light weights. Barre Fitness is a full body workout blending dance fitness, yoga and Pilates and is designed to enhance posture, balance, and fluid movement while toning and strengthening.
