NZ and China trade groups agree to 'invest in the future' (21/03/2014) The agreement between the New Zealand China Trade Association (NZCTA) and The Shanghai Entrepreneurs Association aims to foster relationships between the two parties. The agreement has been in the works since July 2013 and executive board member at NZCTA, Angela Meng-Yee said both parties were eager to sign.

S. Korea, Mexico to launch economic cooperation committee (31/03/2014) South Korea and Mexico have agreed to launch a committee to beef up bilateral economic cooperation. The so-called economic cooperation committee will be launched in the second half of this year at the earliest and take comprehensive government-level cooperation measures, the ministry said. The ministry said that both shared the need to set up the committee in order to effectively coordinate cooperation at a time when bilateral trade and investment continue to expand.

Comienza a regir Acuerdo de Inversiones del TLC entre Chile y China (03/04/2014) Con la publicación en el Diario Oficial, a partir de este miércoles comenzó a regir el Acuerdo Suplementario sobre Inversiones del Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC) entre Chile y la República Popular China. Corea del Sur y Australia firman un TLC bilateral (08/04/2014) El ministro de Comercio, Industria y Energía de Corea del Sur, Yoon Sang Jik, y su par australiano, Andrew Robb, firmaron oficialmente el martes 8 un tratado de libre comercio bilateral entre ambos países. Para su ratificación, cada Gobierno activará el resto de los procedimientos requeridos, tales como la aprobación parlamentaria. China open to Trans-Pacific Partnership (10/04/2014) China has an open attitude to the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement, Chinese Premier Keqiang told the opening ceremony of the 2014 annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia on Thursday. Laos promotes economic integration at Boao Forum For Asia (11/04/2014) Laos is promoting regional trade and opening-up markets in line with the integration objectives of the Boao Forum For Asia, which opened in Hainan, China on Thursday. Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong delivered his remarks at the forum along with other Asian leaders including Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. China, Australia to hasten FTA talks (13/04/2014) China and Australia voiced hopes of hastening negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement and striking a deal as soon as possible. ANZ strengthens China banking links (15/04/2014) ANZ on Monday became the latest lender to announce an agreement with government-owned China Development Bank, broadening a 2009 memorandum of understanding with the bank. Under the widened agreement, ANZ will operate as an adviser to CDB on its investment and lending decisions in Australia - where the Chinese bank is eyeing resources and infrastructure projects in particular. Vietnam pledges to assist Lao Government Office (21/04/2014) Vietnam and Laos signed a cooperation agreement in Vientiane on Friday, identifying future areas of cooperation. Under the agreement, the two offices will continue to send delegations to visit each their respective countries. India, China agree to deepen naval ties after landmark exercise (26/04/2014) As the Indian Navy's INS Shivalik prepared to leave Qingdao port on Friday after a six-day stay in China, both countries declared that the missile frigate's visit had gone a long way in deepening strategic trust between two navies that are increasingly coming into contact on the high seas. China-Japan-Korea Investment Guarantee Pact to Take Effect in May (28/04/2014) The tripartite investment guarantee pact among the three summits of East Asia signed in May 2012 will officially go into effect in May. Although the agreement was signed on May 13, 2012 in the summit meeting held in Beijing, its passage has been delayed for almost two years due to lack of ratification in each of the signing countries.

Brunei, China sign carbon steel pipe project (29/04/2014) The Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) signed a land lease agreement with a Chinese investor, Huludao City Steel Pipe Industrial Co. Ltd (Huludao) on Monday for a 50 US million dollars project to develop welded rounding carbon steel pipe manufacturing facility in Brunei Darussalam. China urges Asia-Pacific FTA (30/04/2014) China urges quick action to plan and create an Asia-Pacific free trade area (FTA), a senior official with the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Wednesday. Vietnam, RoK to boost agricultural cooperation (30/04/2014) Korean agriculture, an extraordinarily efficient and good mix of traditional farming methods mixed with modern technology, was the topic of discussion at a meeting in Hanoi on April 29. Corea del Sur, EEUU y Japón firmarán un acuerdo de intercambio de información (08/05/2014) Corea del Sur, Estados Unidos y Japón han decidido suscribir durante el presente año un memorando de entendimiento para intercambiar información militar, a fin de contrarrestar las amenazas nucleares y balísticas de Corea del Norte. Brunei, S Korea sign pact on ICT collaboration (13/05/2014) THE InfoComm Federation of Brunei (IFB) will be collaborating with Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA) in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) for the next two years. Brunei and Singapore to Cooperate in Health and Medicine (14/05/2014) A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony was held between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Academy of Medicine (AoM), Singapore. With the signing, the two sides are able to cooperate in creating a structure and framework for Medical graduates in the country to undergo Medical Postgraduate Studies in Singapore under the Advance Specialist Training Fellowship Programme.

Vietnam, RoK hold new FTA round (20/05/2014) The Republic of Korea (RoK) and Vietnam began the fifth round of free trade agreement (FTA) talks in Seoul on May 20 in an effort to reach a deal late this year. Under the MoU, Both countries will continue to collaborate on developing staff skills, sharing professional resources and participating in scholarly and cultural exchanges. ANZ Seeks 100 Percent Control of Cambodia Operations (25/03/2014) Australia-based ANZ bank is seeking to control 100 percent of its banking operations in Cambodia, company officials said Monday. ANZ entered an agreement in 2005 with local conglomerate Royal Group to create ANZ Royal bank, which now has 19 branches throughout the country.

Microbusinesses can tap into Hong Kong online market (08/05/2014) SMALL Bruneian businesses can use the online marketplace operated by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) as a platform to trade with partners from China and beyond. According to Hoh Jee Eng, HKTDC’s director, the award winning portal (http://www.hktdc.com/en-buyer/) enables businesses to source, place orders and sell online as well as offer free business matching services. Shanmugam, Garza reaffirm Singapore-Mexico relations (21/05/2014) Minister Shanmugam expressed Singapore’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy and infrastructure development. Cumbre Brasil-China impulsará relaciones económicas (08/06/2014) La presidenta de Brasil, Dilma Rousseff, y el presidente de China, Xi Jinping, se reunirán el próximo 17 de julio en la ciudad de Brasilia (centro) para profundizar los vínculos económicos entre los dos países. Vietnam, RoK strengthen scientific and technological co-operation (13/06/2014) RoK’s First Deputy Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Lee Sang-mok and Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Le Viet Thanh co-chaired the meeting. The two sides discussed relevant contents including science and technology policies of the two nations. Phl, Japan hold talks on econ cooperation (16/06/2014) Trade officials from Japan and the Philippines are holding a meeting today as part of a series of dialogues to enhance cooperation in making the latter the preferred hub of Japanese firms in Southeast Asia. Asean energy meetings boost cooperation (16/06/2014) The 32nd Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on Energy and other associated meetings held in Luang Prabang province have encouraged teamwork in energy development between Asean countries and their development partners. Vietnam, Laos agree to boost cooperation (18/06/2014) Vietnam and Laos will continue promoting bilateral cooperation in trade, education and human resources development in the remaining months of 2014. PTTEP makes an inroad into Brazil (04/04/2014) PTT Exploration and Production, Thailand's largest exploration company, has made an inroad into Brazil, through the 25 per cent equity participation in four deep water blocks. "This is PTTEP's first step in expanding investment in petroleum exploration in South America," said Tevin Vongvanich, president and CEO of the company. The investment is pending for the approval from the Brazil’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). Japanese firms in hi-tech power plant deals with Malaysia, Myanmar (07/04/2014) Two Japanese companies have agreed deals to develop advanced coal-fired power plants in Malaysia and Myanmar as part of a government drive to export energy efficiency technology to emerging markets. AAA takes flight from Japan to Siem Reap (07/05/2014) Asia Atlantic Airlines (AAA) made its first flight from Japan’s Narita International Airport to Siem Reap on May 3 with more than 260 tourists on board – and there are more to come. AAA ran the test flight last week before committing to two flights per week starting in July, and daily connections could commence later this year, according to the Minister of Tourism Thong Khon. Samsung launches full-scale chip production in China plant (09/05/2014) Samsung Electronics, the world's biggest memory chip maker, said Friday that itstarted its fullscale production of memory chips in its China plant. Chinese company to build noodle factory in Australia (06/06/2014) Australia's safe food reputation has attracted a Chinese company to build a flour mill near Perth to make noodles for children as part of a wave of Chinese investment in agriculture worth billions of dollars. Japan firm buys share of new power plant (04/06/2014) In what looks to be a concerted push into the Southeast Asian energy sector, Japanese import and export conglomerate Marubeni Corporation has acquired a large stake of Cambodia’s power generation infrastructure. Vietnamese investors’ rising interest in Myanmar (09/06/2014) More than 50 business groups from Vietnam have been conducting market research in Myanmar in order to look for investment opportunities, said Pho Nam Phuang, director of Investment and Trade Promotion Centre, on Friday. POSCO to Supply Steel Sheets to Chinese Auto Steel Wheel Maker (13/06/2014) POSCO said on June 12 that it has signed an agreement with Zhejiang Jingu Co. Ltd. of China to supply a total of 300,000 ton high value-added auto steel sheets for the next five years. The two companies will expand the range of cooperation, including the joint project to develop high-strength (over 80 kilograms) pickled oiled steel sheet. Semen Indonesia’s cement factory shaping in Vietnam (15/06/2014) State-run cement producer, Semen Indonesia plans to invest US$250-300 million to build a new cement plant in Vietnam next year, as part of its strategy to expand business in Southeast Asia (SEA). Samsung plans to invest additional US$1 bil in Bac Ninh (17/06/2014) Samsung group is urgently finalising documents to invest an additional US$1 billion in the Samsung Bac Ninh Hi-Tech Complex, according to Hai Quan (Customs) newspaper.

Sudden Cambodian worker exodus to hit Thai Businesses (17/06/2014) Thai officials said on Tuesday that the mass departure of Cambodian labourers would dent the economy as thousands more migrant workers, fearing reprisals from the new military government, poured across the border. Chinese firm acquires large stake in Kampot $100m cement factory (20/06/2014) Chinese firm Huaxin Cement Co has purchased a 40 per cent stake in Cambodia Cement Chakrey Ting Factory Co, a cement-making factory currently under construction in Kampot province. Thai firm makes hospital appointment in Burma (24/06/2014) Thonburi Hospital Group (THG), owned and chaired by property tycoon Boon Vanasin, plans to expand its presence aggressively in Burma by investing 5 billion baht (US$165 million) over five years to build three hospitals and clinics nationwide. Japanese firm signs agreement with bank (25/06/2014) Publicly listed Japanese conglomerate Resona Holdings signed an agreement yesterday with Cambodia Public Bank (Campu) aimed at increasing its customer base in the Kingdom’s banking sector. Hyflux signs MOU for projects in Mexico (26/06/2014) Water treatment firm Hyflux, through its wholly owned subsidiary Hyflux International, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Banco Interacciones, Mexico's leading infrastructure bank, to collaborate on water projects in Mexico.
