South Korea seeks to strengthen trade ties with Brunei (12/01/2015) Diplomatic ties between Brunei and South Korea have lasted over the last 30 years with both countries enjoying a wide range of economic cooperation from energy to education. Cho Won-Myung, the Korean Ambassador to Brunei, said that this longstanding relationship can be capitalised even further as ASEAN countries seeks regional integration. Japan to ink flight pact with Kingdom (12/01/2015) Japan's and Cambodia's governments are expected this week to sign an agreement that paves the way for Japanese airlines to service all 10 ASEAN states when the region integrates at the end of this year. Highest priority to sign FTA with India by year end: Australia (12/01/2015) Reaffirming its commitment to boost bilateral trade with India, Australia today said it accords the 'highest priority' to the conclusion of a free trade agreement with with New Delhi by the end of this year. 1

Vietnam awaits Trans-Pacific Partnership signing (19/01/2015) At the close of the latest round of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, chief negotiators were quoted as saying the finish line is in sight and they expect to cross it in the first quarter of 2015. Singapore to boost economic cooperation with Myanmar (03/02/2015) Singapore announces two initiatives - reviving a joint ministerial committee to boost economic ties, and agreeing to cooperate in the area of banking and finance - which are aimed at increasing economic cooperation with Myanmar. Australia holds door open to Taiwan FTA (04/02/2015) Australia needs to complete its existing free trade agreements (FTAs) with other countries, including China, before it can begin considering talks with Taiwan on the possibility of singing an FTA, the nation's top envoy to Taiwan said yesterday. Korea’s first trade surplus with Japan in auto parts (04/02/2015) Korea had seen a chronic trade deficit with Japan since the two countries normalized their diplomatic relations 50 years ago. It was particularly serious in parts and materials. Korea also gained a lot from importing parts and materials from Japan, which is geographically close and technologically advanced, and exporting to the U.S. and China after assembling them. Vietnam enjoys US$1.93 billion trade surplus with Australia (04/02/2015) Vietnam exported US$3.99 billion worth of goods to Australia in 2014, up 13.7% against 2013, while importing commodities worth US$2.06 billion, resulting in a continuing trade surplus of US$1.93 billion, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs. Argentina and China boost cooperation (05/02/2015) Argentina and China are to strengthen economic cooperation, especially in the fields of energy and infrastructure, Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner said in Beijing.

Indonesia-Brunei agree to expand cooperation (09/02/2015) President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields, the Foreign Ministry Office said. Abe, Thai junta leader agree to cooperate on railway development, special economic zone (09/02/2015) Thai Prime Minister Prayuth-ocha and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed Monday in Tokyo to further develop the strategic partnership between their nations, pledging to deepen economic cooperation to develop Thailand’s railway networks and promote a special economic zone in Southeast Asia. Vietnam vies with Myanmar and Indonesia for foreign hi-tech investment (09/02/2015) Multinational technology groups are restructuring their production strategies, giving Vietnam a reason to hope that it would be their next destination. But Myanmar and Indonesia, which also have low labour costs, are scrambling to attract the same investors as well.

Korea to support Laos on integrated rural development (10/02/2015) Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has provided a grant of US$14 million (more than 1 13 billion kip) for the integrated rural development project in Laos, which is set to start this year and run until 2019. Business centre in Nanning to boost bilateral trade (10/02/2015) The Brunei business liaison office in Nanning, China, is expected to start operation in the second half of the year - a move that is seen to boost trade between the Sultanate and the world’s second biggest economy. Philippines, Indonesia strengthen maritime, defense cooperation (10/02/2015) President Aquino and visiting Indonesian President Joko Widodo agreed yesterday to improve maritime, defense and economic cooperation between the Philippines and Indonesia as well as people-to-people exchanges. Central Bank to receive Singapore support (10/02/2015) The Central Bank of Myanmar and the Monetary Authority of Singapore have signed an agreement to deepen cooperation, according to a Central Bank statement released February 9. Wellington business agreement with China (30/03/2015) Wellington is throwing open doors to possible investment from China. A delegation of business leaders from Shenzhen, China’s largest port city, were in the capital on Monday to sign a memorandum of mutual understanding and cooperation with the Wellington Employer’s Chamber of Commerce, signaling an intention for the two cities to work together.
