Collaborative or interestbased negotiation aims for agreements that respond to the interests of both parties. This course introduces the skills, theory and process for applying interestbased negotiation in a variety of work and day-to-day situations. Participants will learn to prepare for negotiations, assess their alternatives, build a climate of collaboration, get beyond stubborn positioning and develop agreements that work for both sides. Emphasis is on skill development through simulated negotiations assisted by trained coaches. Students are encouraged to bring a VHS videotape to record their role-play on the final day of the course.
