ALICE M. GEORGE

Alice George admits that making the decision to go back to school was hard, but finding a program that would allow her to give back to her community and explore her Aboriginal heritage was easy. Inspired to learn how to help others, Alice relocated her family so that she could enrol in the Aboriginal Community Support Worker (ACSW) certificate program at Okanagan College. “The program gave me a better understanding of Indigenous history and current issues facing Indigenous communities today,” says Alice. “If you’re willing to dig deeper and become self-aware of your own biases and values, you can really build on your professional skills. That is when the work becomes most interesting.”

The ACSW program prepares learners to support and assist Indigenous individuals and families, both on- and off-reserve, to enhance their quality of life. “The College was such a welcoming place to go to school and my experience has inspired me to pursue additional post-secondary education. My perspective has really shifted – I now have a much more compassionate and empathetic view on how to support others.”

GHS is a worldwide system. The WHMIS 2015 legislation is currently in force. “In force” means that suppliers may begin to use and follow the new requirements for labels and safety data sheets (SDSs) for hazardous products sold, distributed, or imported into Canada. CONTINUING STUDIES REFUND POLICY Non-certificate Course Withdrawal Refund requests must be made at least two business days (48 hours) prior to the course start date. No refunds are issued for requests received with less than two business days’ notice. Students may withdraw by phone, fax, email, mail or in person. Special refund polices apply to courses where indicated. Check the policy when registering. Non-certificate courses with tuition fees of $500 or more will have a five business day refund policy unless an exception is made by the Director.
