Forest Operator Student (expected graduation Sept. 2017) When Okanagan College received Project Based Labour Market Partnership funding from the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction to provide a Forest Operator Training Course for people searching for full time employment, Jason Jones jumped at the opportunity to enrol. At the time he had just moved to Revelstoke and was looking for work. With the course including a work placement, and with Revelstoke campus being just minutes from his new home, the decision to sign up was easy. “I previously worked as an Initial Attack Crew Leader for the B.C. Wildfire Service. During that time I received chainsaw training and worked with professional production fallers on fires. That career always fascinated me. “Okanagan College and WorkBC went above and beyond to expand on the traditional Forest Safety Council 30-day tree faller training. Giving students a working knowledge about how the logging industry operates, and pairing up students with a 10-week work placement, gave me the opportunity to network with local forestry professionals. I would definitely recommend this type of course to anyone interested in a wellrounded, hands-on learning experience.”
