Advanced GIS
This program introduces students to the essentials of using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps, and edit and manage GIS data and projects. In addition, more advanced topics such as raster analysis, working with 3D data and network datasets will be covered. Students will learn how to use GPS technologies to gather data, how to perform GIS analysis, complete an in-depth study of relational databases and how databases are used within GIS. Students will be required to complete two major projects of their own design as well as a directed project of the type they would encounter in an employment situation. AutoCAD Skills
If you want to work in today’s drafting and design industry, you must be able to use industry-standard AutoCAD software. Gain expertise in basic business accounting in this 66-hour hands-on program. Provides a good foundation for those interested in pursuing computer-based accounting at a later date. Learn accounting concepts, generally accepted accounting principles, and the rules of debit and credit. Certificate Programs Bookkeeping Bridging
The Bookkeeping Bridging Certificate program is designed for students who have already acquired some financial accounting knowledge, and who wish to add to their employable accounting skills. This program covers the use of Computerized Accounting software and Payroll Administration. Work with general ledgers, learn how to print month-end statements and maintain daily transactions, and work with accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory and job costing. Use computerized accounting software to create company files, record transactions in ledgers, print month-end statements. and establish computerized accounting records. Students will be introduced to the complexities of administering a payroll system and learn how to read and analyze current relevant legislation, applying it to practical situations. Custodians are an important part of every workplace. Education Assistant
This 447-hour program prepares students to work as an Education Assistant in a school setting with an emphasis on working as part of a team under the instructional supervision of classroom teachers and employment supervision of other School and District level staff. Duties include helping to implement the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for individual children with exceptionalities in the areas of cognitive abilities, physical challenges, severe health issues, behavioural challenges, autism and related disorders. Certificate Programs Management Skills for Supervisors - Updated Winter 2014 The Management Skills for Supervisors certificate has been revised to allow today’s leaders to meet the leadership training needs of businesses and organizations throughout the Okanagan Valley. The 2014 course outline includes: • Defining the role of today’s leader and the tools they require • Using effective communication and listening skills • Managing conflict and having difficult conversations • Engaging all the people within an organization • Managing ever present change • Tools for effective time management • Using performance management on a daily basis to ensure a safe, effective and efficient organization. Nursing Unit Assistant
A nursing unit assistant is a key member of a hospital health care team who assembles and maintains patient charts, handles the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, processes physicians orders relating to medications, laboratory and diagnostic tests, and surgical or treatment plans, and performs standard receptionist duties. Early application for all programs is strongly advised. Notice of program closures will be posted on the Okanagan College website. Okanagan College may cease to accept applications for a given intake or program if the number of applications submitted greatly exceeds enrolment capacity. Okanagan College is a multi-campus institution, and many programs are offered at more than one campus. However, not all programs are offered at all campuses.

Use the online application form at www.okanagan.bc.ca/apply. If you are unable to submit an application online, Okanagan College will accept paper applications. While online submission of your application greatly speeds the processing of the application, how you submit your application is not a factor in determining your admissibility. Note: Fees subject to change without notice.
You may visit any of the campuses or regional centres of Okanagan College to submit your application. Assistance is available to help you use the online application process. You may apply to one or more programs in any given semester or program term. If you are admitted to more than one program, you will be required to accept only one offer of admission unless schedules do not overlap.

This 30-hour course is designed for RNs and LPNs who wish to further their foot care skills for use in clinical and community settings. Since confidence and competency come with practice, this course is designed to enhance the development of a knowledge base to bring greater understanding to the practice setting. Study and discussion will focus on healthy anatomy and physiology of the lower extremities, so that deviations caused by aging, illness and various conditions can be recognized during assessment, and nursing interventions adopted accordingly. Special consideration is given to conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus, MRSA, and cardiovascular conditions prevalent in our communities. Non-invasive techniques and procedures that incorporate knowledge of asepsis within the scope of our practice will be presented. Indian Head Massage
The art of Indian Head Massage is part of the system of medicine known as Ayurveda (a Sanskrit word meaning Science of Life). For plumbers, pipefitters, sprinkler fitters and steam fitters involved in the installation and maintenance of backflow prevention devices. This course is a prerequisite for certification as a Backflow Tester through the BC Waste Water Association (BCWWA). Individuals who do not have their journeyperson status in one of the above trades are able to acquire this certification but can only test and not repair. Wine & Food Studies Introduction to Wine Microbiology
This lecture course examines the microbiology of all aspects of wine production. The course is intended for professional winemakers and laboratory/ cellar staff at commercial wineries, as well as serious home winemakers. Topics include cell biology, yeast strains, the ecology of native flora, malolactic bacteria, the impact of nutrition on fermentation outcomes, managing microbial growth, and the sources and control of microbially derived aromas and taints. Sensory Evaluation in Winemaking
