Audio Engineering & Music Production Certificate
Would you like to produce digital recordings for musicians and music groups? Mix live concerts and sound reinforcement for public events? Autism Spectrum Certificate
This 81-hour program is for persons who work, interact and live with persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Courses will provide a thorough overview of ASD focusing on both theory and practical skills that will be useful for professionals, parents and/or caregivers. Multiple strategies, examples and tips, as well as concrete suggestions and in-depth resource listings that can be used to greatly enhance the quality of interactions with persons with autism in home, educational, daycare, social work or caregiver settings will be presented. AutoCAD Skills Certificate
If you want to work in today’s drafting and design industry, you must be able to use the industry-standard AutoCAD software. In this program, you will be trained to prepare technical drawings for a variety of manufacturers including those in the machining, electronics, and woodworking fields. You will also learn the basic CAD skills required to prepare working drawings for architecture, surveying, mapping, and graphic arts. Certificate Programs Basic Accounting Certificate
If you’re working to keep the books competently for a small business, or are interested in an entry-level accounting job, this 66-hour hands-on program can provide you with the necessary expertise. It also provides a good foundation for those interested in pursuing computerbased accounting at a later date. You will learn accounting concepts, generally accepted accounting principles, and the rules of debit and credit. You’ll review the accounting cycle for a service business, learn how to manage a general ledger, prepare financial statements, periodic adjustments, and year-end books. You’ll also learn about specialized journals and how to track customers and vendors for a merchandising business, as well as inventory concepts, sales taxes, internal cash controls, and payroll preparation. Graduates of this program can apply for transfer credit into BUAD 111. Dental Office Administrative Assistant
This 120-hour program is an introduction to the basic skills necessary for employment as a dental office administrative assistant, including front desk skills. Students will receive an introduction to dentistry and routine dental procedures, and learn maintenance of patient records, insurance forms, appointment control, and record keeping within a computerized environment. Certificate Programs Education Assistant Certificate
If you love kids and are looking for a career that challenges and inspires you every day, this program is for you! This 447-hour program prepares you to work as an Education Assistant in a school setting with an emphasis on working as part of a team. The Education Assistant works under the instructional supervision of classroom teachers and employment supervision of other School and District level staff. Duties include helping to implement the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that has been developed by the team for individual children with exceptionalities in the areas of: cognitive abilities, physical challenges, severe health issues, behavioural challenges, autism and related disorders. The program includes both theoretical studies and practical applications in such areas as understanding school curriculum and developing strong observation and related skills while working with children who have severe challenges. As well, it will encourage the imagination and creative ability of each student in the program. Graduates of this program are well prepared to facilitate and support the learning and independence of children who require extra assistance in meeting their educational goals, and will gain hands-on experience through a 120-hour practicum in the classroom. Floral Design Certificate
This 150-hour certificate program prepares students to work as floral designers and to upgrade the abilities and skills of those currently working in the field. Emphasis is on retail floristry including small businesses and franchise retail outlets. Program content concentrates on the basic principles of plant care, floral design and floral arrangements for special events. Students will be eligible to write the Basic Florist Skills accreditation examination with Flowers Canada, after successfully completing this program along with six months of practical experience in a retail florist business. With its focus on prevention, this 26-week program prepares you for a career combating microorganisms, creating safe and hygienic environments for patients. You will gain a comprehensive knowledge of aseptic techniques, infection control, cleaning, sterilization, the handling and storage of sterile supplies and decontamination procedures. A 400-hour practicum in a hospital setting allows you to apply your learning while gaining valuable work experience. Graduates are eligible for certification with the International Association of Health Care Central Service Material Management. Nursing Unit Assistant Certificate

A nursing unit assistant is a key member of a hospital health care team who assembles and maintains patient charts, handles the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, processes physicians orders relating to medications, laboratory and diagnostic tests, and surgical or treatment plans, and performs standard receptionist duties. This program is of interest to students who would like a formal training period, followed by interesting and varied job opportunities in the pharmacy field. Graduates work in community pharmacies and hospitals under a Pharmacist’s supervision. Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate

The Bookkeeping Bridging Certificate program is designed for students who have already acquired some financial accounting knowledge, and who wish to add to their employable accounting skills. Career Facilitator Certificate
The goal of the program is to enable participants to gain a skill base in the following areas: knowledge and understanding of career facilitation theories and their vocational implications; career and life assessments; functional program planning, with a focus on job search and career and life planning; effective placement planning; researching and applying labour market information and knowledge of supports needed for effective career planning. The program is comprised of seven courses totalling 252 hours of instruction. Community Brain Injury Services Certificate
The Community Brain Injury Services Certificate is a 108-hour program that educates students to work in a front-line capacity with individuals with brain injury, their families and other rehabilitation professionals. The program is designed as a post certificate or post diploma program for individuals working in or with a desire to work in the field of brain 10
injury. This program will be of interest to those with training in social sciences or health related field such as: psychology, sociology, social work, occupational therapy, education, Human Service Worker, Rehabilitation Assistant, Home Support Resident Care Attendants, or nursing. The brain injury community service provider is a critical member of the rehabilitation team and works directly with individuals with brain injury under the direct supervision of the clinical case manager or medical team which may include the physiotherapist, occupational therapist, physician, etc. The service provider is responsible for a wide range of services in the post-acute, community re-integration stage of rehabilitation. Pharmacy Technician Certificate
The Pharmacy Technician Certificate program is a 940-hour program which prepares students for employment as technicians in community and hospital pharmacies. Students gain knowledge and skills relevant to the technical and clerical aspects of the pharmacy profession. Topics covered include: job orientation, pharmacy equipment, prescription preparation, mathematical skills in pharmacy, inventory maintenance, recordkeeping, pharmaceutical products, compounding, sterile product handling, hospital pharmacy procedures, computer skills, communications skills and the law as it applies to pharmacies, and the legal relationship between a pharmacist and technician. The program includes theory, demonstrations, and practice in the classroom (labs held in Kelowna every May). ADMISSIONS Early application for all programs is strongly advised. Notice of program closures will be posted on the Okanagan College website. Okanagan College may cease to accept applications for a given intake or program if the number of applications submitted greatly exceeds enrolment capacity. Okanagan College is a multi-campus institution, and many programs are offered at more than one campus. However, not all programs are offered at all campuses.
How to Apply
Use the online application form at www.okanagan.bc.ca/apply. If you are unable to submit an application online, Okanagan College will accept paper applications. While online submission of your application greatly speeds the processing of the application, how you submit your application is not a factor in determining your admissibility. You may visit any of the campuses or regional centres of Okanagan College to submit your application. Assistance is available to help you use the online application process. You may apply to one or more programs in any given semester or program term. If you are admitted to more than one program, you will be required to accept only one offer of admission.
When to Apply
• You may apply online starting the first business day in November for Continuing Studies certificate programs. • Most programs accept applications up to the program start. Some programs have multiple start dates throughout the year. • All applicants are urged to apply as early as possible.
Response Time
Okanagan College will strive to respond to your application within ten (10) business days. However, during busy times of the year, please allow for up to twenty (20) business days for a response.
Distance Education
Distance Education courses begin in September, November, January, March and May. Distance Education students who plan to attend on-campus or by distance in subsequent semesters must reapply for admission.
Transcripts
As an applicant, you must ensure that official sealed transcripts are submitted for all institutions attended other than Okanagan College. Transcripts must have been issued within the previous six months. Current and past Okanagan College students and Okanagan University College students are not required to submit Okanagan College or Okanagan University College transcripts. Domestic applicants submitting out-of-province postsecondary transcripts will be required to submit a $30 transcript evaluation fee. International applicants submitting post-secondary transcripts will be required to submit a $150 transcript evaluation fee. (This fee is in addition to the application fee.)

Drafting is the language used in the construction industry for communicating ideas and instructions. The construction drawings are used for selling and building those ideas. Most construction and presentation drawings today are done on computers but the initial ideas and concepts are still sketched out by hand. An understanding of hand drafting is still important to a drafter/designer. This introductory course will outline some of the basic techniques and terminology used for hand sketching and basic drafting. MOTORCYCLE TRAINING Okanagan College has teamed up with V-Twin Motorcycle Riding School (Okanagan) to offer the best rider training opportunity in the BC Interior. There are courses available for all levels, from New Riders to Experienced or Returning Riders. Custom training options and road test preparation are also offered. Our instructors are the most experienced instructors in the Okanagan, and all are ICBC licensed. Motorcycles and helmets are provided for new riders, while returning or experienced riders can use their own bikes. New Rider Course
Learn how to operate a motorcycle in a safe and structured environment under the direction of professional instructors who want you to learn to ride well. Leisure Studies Returning Rider Motorcycle Training for those with previous experience
Maybe you have been out of the sport for a while, or perhaps you have been riding off road for years, or on road without a license, and have decided it’s time to obtain a Class 6 License. Maybe you received your license years ago, or in another jurisdiction, and are adapting to the increased traffic levels in the Okanagan. Whatever the reason, we will help you develop or revive dormant riding skills in a fun environment with experienced instructors. We will cover the theory components of traffic tactics, traction and control, and special riding situations. We will spend a day in traffic learning, or re-learning, traffic strategies. You will be using your own motorcycle, so this will be a chance to become familiar with its characteristics and abilities. This is also a good course for those who have been learning on their own, and are preparing for the road test. Advanced Rider (Motorcycle Rider Challenge)
For riders with experience and their own motorcycle, we offer the opportunity to improve your riding and traffic skills in a challenging training environment. WITHDRAWAL/ REFUND POLICY:
Students may withdraw from a course by phone, fax, mail or in person. Full refunds or a letter of credit will be given if the request to withdraw is made at least two business days in advance of the course start date, with the exception of certificate programs. For certificate programs, there is a $200 non-refundable deposit. Refunds can take up to 2-4 weeks to process and are issued by cheque. Refunds do not include the cost of books, supplies, meals, travel expenses or other nontuition charges. Please note: All course/program information including course/ program content, course fees, length, prerequisites, start/end dates, postponements and/or cancellation is subject to change without notice.
