Architectual Style Amy Le


Georgian Style It is made from stone and bricks. They have decorative window headers. They would have hip roofs and sometimes with dormers. The georgian style is known for their elegance and lightness of touch. It is one of America’s most consistently popular styles. Its characterized by its porportion and balance.


A-Frame Style The A frame is shaped like an equilateral triangle. It’s distinctive peak is formed by rafters or trusses. It is not good for a family who has kids because the house isn’t designed for them. Once it snows, the snow will fall right off the roof because it doesn’t have a flat surface.


Shed Style This house style includes asymmetry with strong lines, one- to two-height, and seamless roof and wall intersection. They were popular in the 1970s, but then quickly died out in the 1980s because of high maintenence cost they created. They make up single-sloped roofs.


Craftsman style This house style has a low-pitched roof. It has a large,covered front porches with massive, battered columns. This house style expose wooden structural elements. It has decorative knee braces, dormers, and it has a large fireplace, often built-in cabinetry on either side.


Federal Style It is simply a square or rectangle box, two or three stories high or two rooms deep. Federal style decoration often showcases geometrical concepts. Federal style buildings are found in every eastern city. In some federal buildings, one can find an elaborate curve polygonal floor plan.


Italianate Style They have a plain shape and are usually two or three stories tall and have sloping roofs. They are usually distinguished by their deep overhanging eaves. It was a distinct 19th century phase. The italinate style was developed in britain in about 1802. It has imposing cornice strictures and pedimented windows and doors.


Victorian Style This house style includes towers, turrets, dormers, and wide wipe-around porches. They have decorative railings and turned posts. They sometimes have stained glass in doorways and windows. Most of the houses do not have a garage. Their roofs are made of slate.


Greek Revival Style This style was an architectural movement of the late 18th century and early 19th centuries. They include a symmetrical shapes, pilasters, columns, and a porch entry. It is plain and highly decorated cornices and friezes. The chimneys were placed as far back as possible to make the home look more like a greek temple.


Geodesic Dome style This style is a spherical form in which lightweight triangular or polygonal facets consisting of either skeletal struts or flatplanes. This building is highly resistant to such forces as snow coverings and earthquake, wind and even tornadoes. They are stronger, lighter, and quicker to contruct.


Prarie Style This house style is more modern-like. They featured horizontal lines, flat or hipped roofswith broad overhanging eaves and horizontal rows of windows, often art glass in geometric patterns. It has a open floor plan and has built-in furniture.


Ranch Style They are one story houses with an open and casual layout.This house style has a low-pitched roof and extended eaves. They also have an attached garage. Its known for their long and wide open layout. The other features include a post and beam ceilings and sliding glass doors.
