Olds College Continuing Education offers a number of Pesticide Applicator courses which will help you to meet certification requirements through Alberta Environment. We have several tutorial sessions options available:
• Agricultural, Landscape & Industrial Designation Tutorial
• Authorized Assistant Tutorial (covers the core portion only)
• Agricultural, Landscape and Industrial Designations Tutorial (no core)
Pesticide Applicator Recertification
Intake: Winter
Delivery: In Person at the Olds College Campus
Pesticide Applicator Certificates are issued for up to 5 years, prior to expiration you need to either complete the required number of Continuing Education Units (CEU) to recertify or rewrite the exam. If you choose to complete your CEU's to recertify, we offer 4 different workshops that will keep you up-to-date with the newest ideas and technology as well as build your professional network.
There are 10 concept areas for training: Application Technology, Emergency Response, Environment, General Information, Human Health, Labeling, Pesticide Safety, Pest Management , Professionalism and Regulations.
Steps to Becoming a Certified Pesticide Applicator:
1) Purchase the Home Study Manual from Lakeland College and study on your own until you are familiar with the content (it is recommended that you review for 10-40 hours prior to attending any tutorials)
2) Register for a complete tutorial at Olds College
3) Schedule in for an exam, which is done through Lakeland College. A Pesticide Applicator Certificate is issued upon successful completion of the provincial certification exam.
4) Maintain your certification status by completing Continuing Education Units (CEUs) workshops within 5 years.
Lawn & Garden Domestic Pesticide Dispenser

Delivery: Home Study
All provincial sales outlets carrying regulated Domestic Class Lawn and Garden Pesticides must employ a certified Lawn and Garden Pesticide Dispenser to ensure that consumers have access to correct information regarding pest control, pesticide regulations, and safety requirements. There are two ways to get your certification. We offer a home study course or corporate on-site training.

Olds College is offering introductory courses in QGIS and ArcGIS Pro for professionals using the software in the workplace and anyone with an interest in GIS technology. These two-day courses are each designed to provide comprehensive basic training of two different types of available software, with industry-specific examples and exercises to ensure you meet your applicable training needs. Oilfield Reclamation

Land Reclamation is an ever-growing issue in Alberta’s oil and gas industry. In this online course, you will receive an overview of petroleum facilities and production practices as they relate to land disturbance. You will also review the regulatory criteria, procedures, and equipment used to assess and reclaim disturbed cultivated, forested, and rangeland sites.
Craft Distilling Certificate
Intake: Multiple Start Dates Throughout the Year
Delivery: Online Plus 5-day Field School Component
This exciting online program prepares graduates for employment in the growing alcohol spirits distillation industry, or to support those already in the workplace. This program provides applicable and necessary hands-on training, and is committed to the promotion of sustainable production practices. Specific areas of instruction include fermentation theory and application, maturation and blending of spirits, sensory evaluation, and quality assurance and management in a distillery environment.
Course Overview:
• Distilling Quality Management
• Fermentation Theory
• Blending, Maturation, and Sensory Evaluation of Spirits
• Theory of Distillery Operations
• Practical Distilling (Field Study)
Pre-requisites:
Students must be 18 years of age prior to enrolment. It is highly recommended that students have a minimum Grade 11 education and some background in brewing, distilling or wine-making.
The course was a great and challenging learning experience for me. As I am new to the subject, the professor was available and resourceful. He provided us with detailed and accurate learning material. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in the subject.
