17TH JULY 2021 | VS WHITBY TOWN FC

Welcome TO HILLHEADS MANAGERS WELCOME We would like to start by welcoming you back in to Hillheads, it has been a long time since we have been able to do this and are looking forward to hearing your support. We would also like to welcome Nathan and his Whitby squad to what promises to be an entertaining friendly. Also not forgetting today’s match officials. Todays game is only two weeks away from our first league game against Whickham and we are still working on our match fitness. You may have already seen a few new faces around the squad in the games against Bedlington and Washington and we are looking forward to watching them play for the club; i am sure you will all enjoy watching them too. We have been lucky enough to be handed two home draws in the FA Cup and the FA Vase. Both of these ties are extremely difficult. North Ferriby knocked a few division 1 teams out of the FA Vase in last seasons curtailed season and Synners have added impressively to their already strong squad and are highly fancied to win division 2 this season. However, we are a good team and our exploits in the FA Cup last

THE BAY | 04

season proved this. Hopefully we can have another wonderful run in the FA Cup this season but coupled with a decent run in the Vase. As a management team we do not usually set out targets for the club, instead, we focus on the next game that comes our way and strive for the consistency of winning. Much like the end of last season, if we achieve the consistency then everything else will take care of its self. We hope you enjoy todays game!! Tony and Derek Joint Managers

TIME OUT SATURDAY 3RD JULY - PRESEASON

BENFIELD WHITLEY

3 1

Whitley started their pre season with a trip to league rivals Newcastle Benfield. Bay who were sporting a few trialists along with new signing Daniel Kent started the game strong, but saw their defense broke when a shot from range rebounded of the post and gave the Benfield striker an easy tap in to make it 1-0 up. Bay would go 2-0 down just after the restart. Kent would come the closest to getting Bay back in the game but saw his effort flash just wide. The game would then be put out of reach when a through ball split the bay defenders and was well finished off by the on rushing striker. Bay would get a consolation goal when Scott Lowery would convert a cross at the back post late on but bay would lose the first game of preseaon.

SATURDAY 10TH JULY - PRESEASON

TERRIERS WHITLEY

2 1

Whitley would play another away game, this time against Beddlington Terriers. Bay who named a couple of trialsits in the squad started well. With the taste of defeat still fresh in the minds of the Bay players, Bay would start of on the stronger foot This strong start would soon pay off for Whitley as a long range effort from an unnamed trialist smashed into the Terriers net. This lead would not last long as just before the half time whistle Bedlington would pull level after perking up from the previous goal not 7 mins ago. Bay would go into the break a little shook after conceding late on in the half and again made a strong start to the second half and looked to be on the front foot, but again Bedlington attacked and breached Whitley's defense and would make it 2-1 mid way throught the second half. Bedlington would hold on and defend well against an onslaught of crosses and shots from the Bay attack, but it was to no prevail as Bedlington would run out 2-1 winners and give Whitley their 2nd defeat in as many games.

WEDNESDAY 13TH JULY - PRESEASON

WASHINGTON WHITLEY

1 2

Whitley's 3rd preseason game would come against Washington AFC. Whitley would go onto make a strong start with just 6 mins on the clock a shot from J.Weirs would just glance over the bar. Bay would keep the pressure up and would find the back off the net in the 19th min when McFarlane would chip the on coming keeper to make it 1-0.. 20 mins later and it was 2-0 after a cross into the box from Dunne was turned home by Jon Weirs and give Whitley a 2 goal advantage going into the break. Bay would come out strong at the start of the second half when Weirs turned provider and saw his cross put over by the on rushing Dunne. 10 mins later and new signing Kent almost got his first goal in Bay colours but his effort crashed off the bar after being put through. Washington would pull 1 back late on, which would also see Lowery subbed off with an injury.

A Trip Down

MEMORY LANE LOOKING FOWARD

After a series of friendlies, including this afternoons clash with Whitby Town, July 31st will see the start of the 2021/22 season, lets hope it run’s its full course after two Covid abandoned campaigns. The new season sees, as usual, some changes to the make-up of the Northern League 1st Division as we bid farewell to Stockton Town, Hebburn Town and Shildon as they head to the Northern Premier League 1st Division East.

Whitley Bay began the 1971/72 season defending two trophies after lifting the Northern League Cup and the Northumberland Senior Cup in the previous campaign. The Northern League Cup could not have begun further away from home as Bay were drawn to play at Penrith in the Preliminary Round and managed a 1-1 draw before winning the replay at Hillheads 1-0. The reward for that victory was a visit to Billingham Synthonia and this time there was first time success as we won the tie 4-2.

Everyone here at Hillheads wishes all three of them the very best of luck in their new surroundings. To replace those teams, we welcome old friends West Allotment Celtic and Crook Town back to Division One of the Northern League; along with Redcar Athletic who join for the first time. When they new fixtures came out it brought back memories of some clashes with Crook Town as for 10 consecutive seasons between 1959/60 and 1968/69 Bay played them in the opening game. Crook won three of those games, Whitley Bay two and the other five were draws. So we look forward to an uninterrupted campaign, starting with a home game against Whickham on July 31st, and hope that the Bay carry on the fine form they were in when the 2020/21 season was curtailed. Then we had won five and drawn one of the last six games to rise to 7th in the table.

Bay were drawn away for the 3rd consecutive time when they had to travel to Bishop Auckland and produced another draw, this time 22. However, the win was emphatic in the replay (on 6th March) as we won 5-0 at Hillheads and that included a 300th goal in Bay colours for legendary striker Billy Wright (pictured). One point of note, although all those three sides are still in the Northern League, none of them now play at the ground Whitley Bay visited during their cup run. Victory over Bishop Auckland put Bay into the semi-final and it was Whitby Town who were to stand between ourselves and the Northern League Cup final.

A hard fought contest say Bay emerge 1-0 winners, with the only goal of the game being scored by a North Shields player as he turned the ball into his own net! The Northumberland Senior Cup run started with a 4-0 home victory over Heaton Stannington and that set up the Bay for a semi-final tie against Blyth Spartans; and what a tie it proved to be! Hillheads staged the game but with a final score of 1-1 attention switched to Croft Park and the two sides again battled for 90 minutes to produce a 2-2 draw, with the game ended at that point because of the weather. The second replay was again in Blyth, but this time it was Whitley Bay who triumphed 3-2 in a game that went to extra time. This was an era the Whitley Bay virtually owned the Northumberland Senior Cup and went in to the tie against Ashington having won the previous three finals. And so it proved as Bay won 3-1 with goals from Beynon, Wright (Pictured) & Cairns to collect the trophy for the 4th consecutive season and the 8th time in all.

Bay were drawn at home in that semi-final and certainly made that advantage count, romping through the tie with four unanswered goals to set up a final with North Shields at Croft Park, Blyth.

17TH JULY 2021 | VS WHITBY TOWN FC

WHITLEY BAY: A HISTORY The present Whitley Bay Football Club was formed in 1950 and was then known as Whitley Bay Athletic. From 1950 until 1955 Athletic were members of the Northern Alliance, winning the League Championship once and the League Cup twice. In 1952/53 they became the first amateur team for sixty years to win the Northumberland Senior Cup. In 1958 a limited company was formed, the Athletic dropped from the title and the club joined the Northern League.

During the 1960’s Whitley Bay became one of the top amateur clubs in the country. They won the Northern League title in 1964/65 and 1965/66, as well as the League Cup in 1964/65.

The Club won the Northumberland Senior Cup six times in ten years. but it was in the Amateur Cup that Whitley rose to national prominence, reaching the semi-finals twice and the quarter finals four times. The quarter final against Hendon in 1965 set the ground record, when 7301 supporters packed into Hillheads Park only to see Hendon win 3-1. The early 1970’s saw Bay’s successes continue with the League Cup being won in 1970/71, and the County Cup in 1970/71 and 1972/73. With the demise of amateur football the Club’s fortunes took a nosedive, culminating in them having to apply for re-election to the League in 1979/80.

THE BAY | 10

By the 80’s fortunes were rising again and the club joined the Northern Premier League in 1988. Just a couple of years later the Bay had their best ever run in the FA Cup, when they reached the 3rd Round, going down 1-0 at Rochdale

Steve Cuggy returning as coach. In Chandler’s first full season in charge Whitley won the Northumberland Senior Cup, then in 2006/07 they won the Northern League title, clinching the championship on the final day of the season.

.

Having knocked out holders Truro City 3-0 in Cornwall, Whitley reached the 2008 FA Vase semifinal. They lost the first leg 4-0 at Lowestoft but in a fantastic second leg were three up after only 24 minutes but could not manage a crucial fourth. 12 months on Bay took revenge by knocking Lowestoft out at the same stage and became the first north east side to reach the new Wembley where their opponents were Glossop North End. In front of 12,212 fans, goals from Lee Kerr and Paul Chow brought the FA Vase back to Whitley Bay for the second time.

My had previously won 1-0 at then League side Scarborough, before defeating former winners Preston North End 2-0 in front of the BBC Match of the Day cameras at Hillheads. Whitley won not only the First Division Cup for the second time but also the Championship and promotion to the Premier Division in 1991, where they spent four seasons with a high of 11th in the 1993/94 campaign. However, by the turn of the new millennium Bay were back in the Northern League. A new century marked the beginning of the most successful period in the club’s history, with the 2001/02 season proving truly memorable when they won the FA Vase at Villa Park, thanks to an Ian Chandler header in extra time against Tiptree United. However, only 12 months after leading the team to Vase glory, manager Andy Gowens resigned. The appointment of Ian Chandler as manager in January 2004 proved a masterstroke, with another Vase winner,

In the 2009/10 season Whitley won the Northumberland Senior Cup at St James Park, reached the semi final of the League Cup and for a third successive season finished third in the league. But once again Wembley beckoned and after an

epic two legged semi final against Barwell, Whitley reached the Vase Final for the second successive season. The thousands who made the trip from the north east were celebrating after only 21 seconds when Paul Chow scored the fastest goal ever seen at Wembley. Five more goals ensured the Vase would be coming back to Whitley Bay for a record equalling third time. The 6-1 victory over Wroxham was the highest score in the history of the FA Vase Final. 2011 saw yet another third place finish in the league, but once again a memorable FA Vase run saw Whitley reach Wembley for a third consecutive season and an epic final was decided by Paul Chow’s 86th minute winner as they triumphed 32. Chow, who had scored in every round, and Kerr, had twice given Whitley the lead as they both set the remarkable record of scoring in three consecutive Vase Finals. So Whitley Bay completed a record

breaking hat trick of Vase successes and became the first team ever to win the trophy four times. In November 2011 the Club was honoured with the award of the Freedom of the Borough of North Tyneside.

Mick Mulhern being promoted to the role. However, a humbling record 90 home defeat by Hebburn Town led to him leaving and former Marske boss Nathan Haslam was left to guide the club to safety in the remaining games.

The record breaking 29 match unbeaten run in the competition came to an end at home to West Auckland the following season and in the league they had to settle for 6th place.

Bay entered the 2019/20 campaign with one of the youngest squads in their history and while they played some good possession football, goals were hard to come by and when the Covid-19 pandemic brought an early halt to the season, the club lay 16th in the Ebac Northern League table.

Since those heady days the club has finished in the top five of the Northern League only twice and after Chandler resigned as manager in 2015, there was been a succession of replacements, with only former Vase winning captain Leon Ryan taking the club to a cup final, when Bay lost to Marske in the League Cup at St James Park. The 2018/19 season saw former Vase winning manager Andy Gowens begin the campaign in the hot seat, with his departure leading to assistant to

Manager Nathan Haslam left in the summer of 2020 to take up a coaching role at Northern Premier League side Whitby Town and the Bay board turned to Ryton & Crawcrook Albion manager Tony Fawcett and Newcastle Benfield assistant Derek Foster to guide the club; both have previously spent time coaching at the Foxhunters Academy, the junior development arm of Whitley Bay Football Club.

17TH JULY 2021 | VS WHITBY TOWN FC

Whitby Town

SCOUTING REPORT HISTORY: Founded in 1880, Whitby are one of the oldest clubs from the North Riding of Yorkshire, the club has spent its entire history in the amateur and semi-professional leagues, though they have reached the second round of the FA Cup in both 1983–84 and 1985–86. The level which the club are at now is the highest they have been throughout their history, rising up from the lower sections of non-league football during the 1990s, winning the Northern Premier League First Division on the way as well as the Northern League Cup six times. However, the formation of the Conference North/South Leagues at step 2 in the non-League pyramid effectively relegated Town back to step 3. Whitby most prestigious honour is arguably the FA Vase, which they won in 1996– 97 after defeating North Ferriby United at Wembley Stadium. Whitby play their home games at the 3,500 capacity Turnbull Ground on Upgang Lane. The club's colours are somewhat distinct in English football and are intentionally similar to Italian side Sampdoria wearing a blue shirt with a touch of white, black and red.

THE BAY | 20

The club was founded as Streaneshalch Football Club in October 1880, soon after its foundation the club changed its name to Whitby Church Temperance and played a friendly game against Scarborough on 8 January 1881, which Whitby won 2–0. The name was changed in late 1882 to Whitby Football Club and continued to play friendly games as well as competing in the Scarborough & East Riding County Cup. At this time rugby football codes were more popular, however Whitby and some other sides proved to be important in gaining a foothold for the code of association football especially in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The most prominent player of the early years was John Nicholson, who captained the side for nearly a decade. During this early period Whitby and Scarborough's rivalry was intense: Whitby beat them in the final of the 1886–87 County Cup, before in the two seasons following Scarborough beat Whitby in the final. There was also a situation in the 1889 FA Cup where Scarborough knocked Whitby out in the First Round, with Whitby complaining that Scarborough's Recreation Ground was an illegal size. Unfortunately the rivalry culminated in one of the first football riots, after a disagreement about a goal, Whitby players were attacked on

the pitch by Scarborough fans and eventually chased out to the Scarborough railway station. Nineteenyear-old Whitby player Albert Drabble, who was attacked at the game, died the following month of a heart attack, though links between the incidents were not conclusive it put a large shadow over the fixture. Chris Hardy was appointed manager of Whitby Town on 3 December 2015, leaving local rivals Guisborough Town. Hardy's first game ended in a 1-0 defeat to Sutton Coldfield Town but results soon picked up, and Hardy led the side to survival, ensuring the job was done with a 2-1 win over Barwell. The following season saw Whitby miss out on the play-offs by two points, finishing 6th. After over five years at the helm, Hardy resigned in October 2020 after commitments with his day job made it difficult for him to continue managing Whitby at the same time. Hardy’s longtime Assistant, and Nathan Haslam, who joined the coaching staff in April 2020, took over as Joint-Manager’s soon after Hardy’s resignation, and having initially been in place as interim bosses, they were both given new deals after a string of positive results during their short tenure in charge. The duo have exciting plans for the club and they are assembling a squad with a fine balance of experience and exciting youth..

THE MANAGERS & STAFF: Lee Bullock (Joint Manager): 'Bully’ is an experienced former Football League player who began his career as a central midfielder, before dropping into the heart of defence. Composed in possession and good in the air, Bullock started out at York City, making 183 appearances for the Minstermen over two spells. His professional debut came in December 1998 against Wrexham as a 17-yearold trainee, a second round FA Cup tie which York City lost 21. Following this, Bullock appeared for Cardiff City, Hartlepool United and Bradford. Bullock signed for Whitby Town in the summer of 2013, and was appointed as assistant manager to Chris Hardy in December 2015, following a win 4-1 win over Mickleover Sports as caretaker manager.

Nathan Haslam (Joint Manager) Nathan joined up with the club’s management team ahead of the 2020/21 season after resigning from his position as manager of Whitley Bay. Haslam was successful as head coach when at Marske United as he led them to a league and cup double in 2013/14 as they won the Northern League title, as well as the Northern League Cup. Haslam would also helped to turn Bishop Auckland’s fortunes around as he transformed them from Northern League strugglers to a side pushing for promotion. He also took up a brief advisory role at Willington.

PLAYER TO WATCH OUT FOR:

Jeff Miller (Sports Therapist): Miller joined the Blues in July 2017, replacing previous Sports Therapist Paul Scott. He spent over thirty years with York City and has vast Football League experience, before deciding to move to the Turnbull Ground for a fresh challenge.

A FAMILIAR OPPONENT:

Bradley Fewster: Fewster is an explosive centre-forward who is a constant thorn in the side of defenders with his pace. His signing for the Seasiders in February 2019 from Blyth Spartans was considered something of a coup, given how highly-rated he is. A Middlesbrough academy graduate, the striker quickly gained a name for himself at the Turnbull Ground with his powerful strikes on goal and prolific goalscoring. Fewster

Neil Ince (Goalkeeping Coach): Neil joined up with the Whitby Town coaching staff in the summer of 2021. Ince has made a name for himself as a top goalkeeping coach in the area having developed and coached at the Teesside Keeper School which he continues to run alongside his role with the Seasiders. He has also worked with the Norton & Stockton Ladies Team.

powerful strikes on goal and prolific goalscoring. Fewster represented England up to under-19 level, and has also appeared for Preston North End, York City, Hartlepool United and Spennymoor Town.

Marcus Giles: Marcus is a youngster with bags of potential. He joined Whitby Town from Whitley Bay in the summer of 2020, following Nathan Haslam to the club. His stay at Whitley Bay was short having only joined them in December 2019 from Ashington but he scored five goals in eight appearances at Hillheads, an impressive record. He has also played for Morpeth Town. Also Whitby joint manager Nathan Haslam returns to Hillshead along with former defender James Martin. THE BAY | 21

17TH JULY 2021 | VS WHITBY TOWN FC

Tales From THE VIEWS OF ONE HALF OF THE BAY WATCH TV: DESPITE THE RESULT AGAINST BLYTH, I WAS UNUSUALLY UPBEAT ABOUT THE VISIT OF THORNABY. HOWEVER, AS THE EVENING UNFOLDED, IT TURNED INTO A MASSIVE NIGHTMARE. IN

BAYWATCH

HQ

DJ

DAZ

WAS

HAVING

A

MELTDOWN

AS

NOTHING

SEEMED

TO

BE

WORKING. THE MICROPHONES WERE NOT CONNECTING TO THE LAPTOP SO WE HAD NO VOICE. AT THE LAST MINUTE, WE HIT ON THE IDEA OF STREAMING THE MATCH LIVE VIA FACEBOOK THROUGH

MY

PHONE.

THE

ADDED

ADVANTAGE

OF

THAT

TECHNIQUE

WOULD

BE

THE

ABILITY TO STREAM VIDEO FOOTAGE. ORIGINALLY, I WAS JUST GOING TO COMMENTATE BUT AS THE OPPORTUNITY PRESENTED ITSELF, WE THOUGHT: “WHY NOT!” AT

FIRST

THE

COMMENTARY

WAS

INTERRUPTED

AS

DJ

ADDED

A

TRIPOD

TO

MAKE

IT

‘EASIER’ BUT IT WASN’T SO HELPFUL. THE ‘BEST’ OPTION TURNED OUT TO BE HOLDING THE TRIPOD WHILST COMMENTATING. THE GLARE OF THE WINDOWS POSED A PROBLEM BUT THE EFFORTS WERE GRATEFULLY APPRECIATED BY A GOOD NUMBER OF THORNABIANS WHO

ENTERED

INTO

THE

BANTER

ALONG

WITH

OUR

BAY

WATCH

TV

FAITHFUL

(ANN

BARKAS). THE WHOLE EVENING FLEW BY IN A BLUR THE RAIN THAT DELUGED HILLHEADS RUINED THE FOOTAGE FROM ONE OF MY CAMERAS AS THE LENS WAS AWASH WITH DROPS. MY OWN COMMENTATING DECAMPED TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD AS I TRIED TO GET RID OF THE GLARE FROM THE MEDIA-SUITE’S WINDOWS. THIS MEANT, I HAD TO FILM WITH ONE HAND, HOLD THE TEAM SHEET WITH ANOTHER WHILST COMMENTATE WITH MY THIRD HAND. SHAME I’VE ONLY GOT TWO! THE

BAY’S

LEAD

DIDN’T

LAST,

SADLY

AND

THORNABY

TOOK

THE

POINTS

WITH

TWO

SECOND HALF GOALS. IN THE END, THORNABY WERE GOOD VALUE FOR THEIR WIN AS THEY DOMINATED THE SECOND PERIOD. OUR FIRST CHANCE TO USE THE INTERNET WIRE, SO KINDLY ERECTED BY OUR OWN MR STYLES FOR THE BLYTH STREAMING, HAD ENDED IN FAILURE. WE ALSO LEARNT THAT THE CABLE HAD ALSO CAUSED ALL MANNER OF TECHNICAL MAYHEM IN THE SEAHORSE BAR SO WE WERE DEPRIVED OF ITS USE FOR THE VISIT OF HEBBURN. IT WAS BACK TO DJ DAZ’S MOBILE PHONE TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY INTERNET FOR THE HEBBURN GAME. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO SPONSOR OUR INTERNET CONNECTION FEEL FREE TO GET IN TOUCH! I HAD BEEN DREADING THE HEBBURN VISIT AS THEY ARRIVED ON A RUN OF WINS THAT HAD INCLUDED A 9-0 DRUBBING OF PENRITH. ONLY OUR NEAR AND DEAR FRIENDS FROM WEST TYNEMOUTH (NE29ERS) HAD BEATEN THEM IN THE LEAGUE SO WE WERE RIGHT UP AGAINST IT. I REALLY DIDN’T WANT TO COME OUT OF MY PIT. THE LADS GAVE OUR SOUTH TYNESIDE VISITORS NO SPACE AND RESPECT. THEY SCRAPPED AND BATTLED FOR EVERY BALL AND LOOKED TO BE HEADING INTO THE BREAK ON LEVEL TERMS. HOWEVER, THE GODS OF FOOTBALL HAD OTHER PLANS TO RUIN OUR WEEKEND. FIVE MINUTES BEFORE HALF TIME, THE BALL BOUNCED CRUELLY OFF SCOTT LOWERY TO GIVE THE VISITORS THE LEAD. IT WAS CRUEL AND UNDESERVED FOR THE BAY. HOWEVER, HEADING INTO THE SECOND HALF, WE STILL HAD HOPE. THE BAY | 32

WhitleyBayFC

Bay Watch TV

LADY LUCK STRUCK ANOTHER WICKED BLOW FOUR MINUTES INTO THE SECOND HALF AND THERE REALLY WAS NO WAY BACK FOR THE LADS. TOWN HAD BEEN MATCHED ALL THE WAY

AND

CERTAINLY

WERE

FLATTERED

BY

THE

WAY

TWO

LATE

GOALS

SKEWED

THE

RESULT IN THEIR FAVOUR. THE BAY HAD REALLY BEEN ABANDONED BY THE POWERS THAT HANDED OUT THE LUCK. JUST WHAT HAD WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? (AS THE PET SHOP BOYS ONCE SANG). THERE WAS A SENSE OF DEJA-VU ON THE WAY UP HILLHEADS ROAD. A DAY EDUCATING OUR YEAR 6S HAD TAKEN IT OUT OF ME AND THE PROSPECT OF HEADING OUT IN THE SWIRLY WHIRLY WIND AND RAIN TO SEE US TAKE ON A TEAM THAT HAD WON SEVEN GAMES ON THE TROT DID NOT APPEAL! AS IT WAS, HEADING OUT WAS THE BEST DECISION I HAD MADE IN A LONG TIME. APART FROM A HALF TIME RACE TO FETCH CAMERA BATTERIES, IT WAS A CRACKING NIGHT. THE LADS TOOK THE FIGHT FIRMLY TO ASHINGTON. ALTHOUGH THEIR DEFENDING, AT TIMES, KEPT US FIRMLY ON OUR TOES, THE BAY WERE CERTAINLY UP FOR THE GAME. TAKING THE LEAD THREE TIMES, ONLY TO BE QUICKLY PEGGED BACK EACH TIME, WE FEARED THE WORST. WHEN ASHINGTON’S JACK BUTLER SCORED IN THE 87TH MINUTE, MY PESSIMISM LOOKED TO BE JUSTIFIED, HOWEVER BACK THE LADS CAME AND MATTY WEIRS CAME UP TRUMPS. WITH ASHINGTON BEGGING FOR AN OFFSIDE DECISION, HILLHEADS WAS DELIGHTED WITH A 4-4 DRAW THAT STOPPED A RUN OF FOUR STRAIGHT DEFEATS. BILLINGHAM CAME TO TOWN THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY ON A RUN OF NINE STRAIGHT DEFEATS. IT IS THE KIND OF GAME THAT WOULD HAVE TRIPPED WHITLEY UP BUT THE LADS SET ABOUT THE TASK IN A DEDICATED MANNER AND IT WAS GREAT TO SEE SHANKSY HELPING HIMSELF TO A SUBLIME HAT-TRICK. ALSO, GOOD TO SEE WAS MICKEY COLQUHOUN GETTING HIS CHANCE ON THE WING AND THE POSITION SEEMED TO FIT HIM WELL AS HE SET OFF ON A NUMBER OF ROVING RUNS. HIS PACE WAS A GREAT ASSET BUT THE WHOLE TEAM WORKED FOR EACH OTHER. THE

4-0

SCORELINE

DIDN’T

REFLECT

THE

FACT

THAT

BILLINGHAM

NEVER

STOPPED

RUNNING AND WORKING FOR EACH OTHER, IN THE SAME WAY OUR LADS HAD DONE THE PREVIOUS WEEK AGAINST HEBBURN.

IT REALLY IS GREAT TO SEE THE LADS GATHERING TOGETHER BEFORE THE WARM UP, RATHER THAN IN DRIPS AND DRABS ALL OVER THE PITCH AND THESE SEEMS TO BE THE AIM OF OUR DYNAMIC COACHING DUO. THE FEELING OF TOGETHERNESS IS SOMETHING THAT SEEMS TO BE FILTERING DOWN THROUGH

THE

CLUB.
