THE DATE MUST GO ON! Joe was in a bicycle accident right after he and Elisabeth set up their first date, and he broke his leg, pelvis and arm. But instead of canceling the date, he had his mom drive him to meet Elisabeth. After the date, he asked if Elisabeth could leave first so she wouldn’t see him getting into his mom’s car! CLOSE CALL Kyle proposed at the top of a mountain in Sun Valley, Idaho, where the couple were skiing. As he dropped to one knee, Elisabeth started sliding backward on her skis to the mountain’s edge. Thankfully, she caught herself and said yes. TUCKED WITHIN HER BOUQUET ... Were Elisabeth’s grandmothers’ lockets and her grandfathers' brooch and ring. WHAT WOULD BE ON YOURS? Joe gave each groomsman personalized cufflinks, which ranged from a Star Wars theme to a Lego chef and sports teams. The groom’s? Ironman-themed since he has completed a full Ironman triathlon. (The groom’s cake and tux also reflected his love of triathlons.)

LIndsey + David k k

12.07.13 The Paxton Ballroom, Omaha

PERSISTENCE IS KEY David did more than order drinks from Lindsey, who was a bartender at a bar he frequented. He asked her out – a few times – and she said no. Finally, he invited her to go to church with him. She figured, “Why not?” SECOND TIME’S A CHARM David gave Lindsey a gift-wrapped Ring Pop for Christmas, along with a speech. She thought he was proposing! This time – on her birthday – he was, and everyone in the restaurant where it happened clapped for the happy couple. NEVER TOO OLD As the bride was about to throw her bouquet out into the crowd, she looked back and saw her grandma ready to catch it! GROOM’S ONE REQUEST Casual food at the reception. The couple decided on fried chicken and a build-your-own burger bar. “We felt that even though we were in a formal setting, we still wanted to be casual and inviting.” FESTIVE REMINDER For favors, the couple made personalized Christmas ornaments so their guests could “remember us each year as they decorate their trees.” They also made rings of jingle bells for guests to ring instead of clinking their glasses at the reception. PRACTICAL AND WARM A friend of the bride's made the beards and shawls for the wedding party – "silly things that became necessary on a very cold day," Lindsey says.

LOVE AT FIRST FUEL Kylie and Kyle are both crew chiefs on a U.S. Air Force B-52, and they met when Kyle taught her how to take fuel off of the jet. “The connection was instant,” she says. AND SHE STILL FELL ASLEEP? The bride has always told Kyle that her favorite time of day is when she falls asleep in his arms, so he proposed one night right before she fell asleep. HOLY WEDDING DAY, BATMAN! The “subtle” Batman theme, as Kylie describes it, was incorporated into the cake, which had bat symbols on it; the groom’s suit, which was black with a gold bow tie; the groom’s Batman-shaped cufflinks; and capes on the wedding party’s chairs. FORGET THE BEACH The bride and groom will spend their honeymoon in China running the Great Wall Marathon in February. Kyle will run the full marathon and Kylie will run the half-marathon. WAS IT A SUPERPOWER? Kylie was nervous about being in front of all of their guests for the ceremony, but when she made eye contact with Kyle all of her fears went away. “It felt like just him and me up there.”

TEAM COLORS The wedding colors were navy blue, red and orange to represent the Denver Broncos and the St. Louis Cardinals since the bride and groom are both Broncos fans (The groom does not share the bride’s love of the Cardinals, however.) And a John Elway poster welcomed all the guests to the reception. NOT IN A HURRY Cassie and Bryan met in a University of Nebraska at Omaha art class. Then they worked together at UNO’s child care center for a few years before they started dating. FUNNY MOMENT The flower girl sprinted down the aisle for her “monkey baby” that the couple gave her as a thank you gift. MAD-LIBBED GUEST BOOK The couple came up with Mad Libs for their guest book since they love doing Mad Libs on road trips. “They were generic notes that you would write in a guest book, but with fun and slightly offensive fill-in-the-blanks,” the bride explains. GROOM’S ONE REQUEST Good music at the reception. MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS The gorgeous weather and dancing with their friends. WHO SAYS YOU NEED A HONEYMOON? The couple bought a house instead.

TWO-PART CEREMONY The couple had a small private ceremony on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. They stood just over the Iowa state line, while their family and bridal party remained on the Nebraska side. Later that evening, they had a large ceremony for 185 guests in front of the Dale Chihuly “Inside and Out” glass sculpture at the Joslyn Art Museum. PROPOSAL IN PICTURES Jessica proposed to Treightin with a photo book titled “The Story of Us: Volume I.” On the last page is a picture of the ring and the question, “Will you start Volume 2 with me?” FUNNY MOMENT It was so windy during the ceremony on the bridge that the bridal party had to crouch down behind the couple to hold their dresses and veils down for the pictures. “Looking at the pictures now, it’s funny to see because someone captured a picture from the back as well,” Jessica says. ‘FORMAL, BUT FUN’ was the couple’s goal for their wedding. From the bright orange Converse Chuck Taylors to polka dots, “We had a fun atmosphere, but there was no mistaking that it was a real wedding,” Jessica says. D.I.Y. DECORATIONS The couple put everything together themselves, from the centerpieces to the candy bar and cake tables. They purchased most of the glassware, linens, etc., so they could be resold to another bride.

Chelsea + Joe k k

04.05.14 Peace Presbyterian Church, Elkhorn The Fountains West, Omaha

NO MIDDLE SCHOOL ROMANCE The couple met in sixth grade and attended the same middle school and high school. But they didn’t fall in love until after college when they reconnected through mutual friends. PROPOSAL BY TEXT Well, kind of. Joe asked Chelsea if she wanted to go out and celebrate, and she asked what they were celebrating. He told her to look at her phone, and a text popped up with a picture of the ring. She turned around and he was on one knee. FUNNY MOMENT The unity candle wouldn’t light after several attempts (The pastor even dug his finger in the wax to help). At the end of the ceremony the pastor said, “What God has joined together, let no man – or candle – separate.” D.I.Y. TOUCHES The bride’s mom made the invitations by hand; the couple made picture frame coasters, which doubled as place cards for the favors; and they made table lanterns out of silver picture mats showing pictures of them as kids and together as a couple. GROOM’S ONE REQUEST That the bride show up! He also requested that the groom’s cake be a replica of his police badge. THREE BIRDS WITH ONE STONE Chelsea’s garter, which was blue, was her great-grandma’s, and her mom also wore it on her wedding day. Her mom sewed her other grandma’s ring to the garter, making it “something old, borrowed and blue.”

A DIFFERENT KIND OF RING AROUND THE COLLAR Matt tied Ann’s engagement ring to their dog, Scout’s, collar, for his proposal. She was “completely surprised and she absolutely loved it.” GO TEAM! Members of the couple’s coed softball team sang and danced a personalized version of “YMCA” at the reception. SWEET TOUCH The blue ribbons and jewels scattered throughout Ann’s bouquet were all taken from corsages that Matt had given her in high school, where they met. A TALL ORDER For the cake decorator, that is. The groom’s cake was in camouflage and included deer cake toppers – one dressed as a groom and the other dressed as a bride. FROM A PHONE TO A GAS CAP AND A TOY TIGER These were just a few of the items that the bride and groom brought to the ceremony that are significant in their relationship. GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE, SOLD! Instead of a traditional garter toss, the couple held a garter auction with the help of two auctioneer friends. The winning bid: $600!

JUST ASK Jennifer was at a going away celebration and asked the group, “Doesn’t anyone know a decent guy to set me up with?” A mutual friend, who gave the blessing at the reception, introduced the bride and groom to each other. JUST ONE QUESTION Scott proposed with a champagne toast at sunset on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, but it took longer than expected since Jennifer “wouldn’t stop interrupting.” IT’S ALL IN THE FAMILY All the Fuhrman men upheld a family tradition at the reception by hitting the dance floor together. FUDGY FIRST The couple ordered the first-ever fudge cake from the Cake Gallery. It could only be out of the refrigerator for a couple of hours due to the fudge icing, “But it was absolutely beautiful and tasted just as amazing,” the bride says. ‘I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU’ Instead of a DJ, a local singer sang Frank Sinatra- and Michael Bublé-type songs for the cocktail hour, dinner and the first few dances. Then he kicked it up a notch with more traditional songs for the rest of the evening. GROOM’S ONE REQUEST No chicken dance at the reception. BEST ADVICE “Make your relationship your top priority. When you do, the marriage flourishes.” WHAT SHE GAVE HIM A 2010 bottle of Erath Pinot Noir to be shared on a future anniversary.

WHO COULD HAVE GUESSED? The bride and groom were introduced at a branding ceremony (where calves are branded with a hot iron) at a ranch in the Sandhills. Amos proposed in the same spot six months later. ALL IN THE FAMILY The couple chose their reception venue for two reasons: It was the only place in the area that could hold 350 guests, and four of Lindsay’s sisters had their receptions there. And several family members worked together on the table arrangements. ‘TALKING’ EYES Lindsay’s most memorable moments of the day were seeing the excitement in their guests’ eyes and seeing the “pure love” in Amos’s eyes after the ceremony. DON’T MIND THE GOOSEBUMPS! The temperature on the couple’s wedding day was only 12 degrees, but that didn’t stop them from taking outdoor pictures. ‘FIRST’ GIFT She gave him a photo album to be filled with “firsts” in their relationship. COWBOY UP! The groom and his groomsmen all wore cowboy boots and cowboy hats (hats were not allowed at the ceremony though!).

A MUSICAL MEETING … The couple met at a Jazzwholes concert at House of Loom. AND AN UNEXPECTED SERENADE Ashley and Gabriel were walking around in the Old Market one evening when they stopped to watch a friend play guitar. All of a sudden, Gabriel grabbed the guitar and started to sing his proposal. “I had no idea it was happening until the end of the song,” Ashley says. WHITE WEDDING The bride says the most memorable moment of their wedding day was waking up to a “fresh coat of beautiful white snow.” THEY COULDN’T TAKE IT The hydrangeas, that is. They died due to the cold weather. SAY IT IN WRITING Before the couple saw each other for their reveal before the ceremony, they stood back to back and exchanged letters that they had written to each other. “It was very sweet,” the bride says. GROOM’S ONE REQUEST That Ashley wouldn’t wear very much makeup.

Andrea + Dan k k

‘STYLISH AND ELEGANT’ That was the atmosphere that the couple was going for, and they found it at the Holland. “It’s stunning inside and out,” the bride says. ‘MISTY’-EYED Dan proposed at Misty’s Steakhouse & Lounge in Lincoln, and Andrea was caught “completely offguard.” What she thought was a double date with her best friend turned into the “best night ever.” FIRST LOOK The couple’s first look was the highlight of their day. “It is a feeling we will remember forever,” she says. DAD’S TURN Andrea also had a first look with her dad, and she says she can’t put into words how meaningful it was. “I would recommend this to any bride,” she says. SPECIAL TOUCH Andrea and Dan wrote letters to each other for the pastor to read during the ceremony. “It was easily our favorite part of the day, and it added that perfect personal touch to our ceremony,” Andrea says. MORE THAN JUST A PLACE CARD The couple wrote a personalized note on the back of each place card to show guests their appreciation for being there. GROOM’S ONE REQUEST That his grandfather give the blessing before dinner. BEST ADVICE To have an itinerary for the wedding party, family and vendors two weeks before the wedding. It kept everyone on the same page and gave them the opportunity to ask questions, the bride says. It also eliminated day-of questions and confusion.
