Director’s Letter Dear Industry Member, As an industry we like to celebrate. As a community, we also weather storms. Between global economic collapses, or the local ones we can have between gigs, we all know that maintaining support for ourselves and our families can be a challenge. From
its inception, the OMPA Talent Committee has wanted to achieve a few things: ● Represent on-camera talent in SourceOregon along with the other crew and services listed there ● Throw a top-notch event to raise attention to Oregon’s on-camera acting community ● Contribute to a “Talent in Need” fund to support performers who are facing financial challenges
The Oregon Actors Awards on October 12 is a lot of things. It is agencies, individuals, businesses and non-profits working together to promote the jewels in our production industry’s tiara. It is also a fundraiser for the Valentine Fund to provide financial assistance to members of the Portland-area theater community in times of medical or personal emergency. Thanks to the sponsorship of Koerner Camera Systems, and with the support of PATA, SAGAFTRA, APP-NW, OMPA, and a host of Oregon and Washington agencies and services, every single dollar received at the door of the October 12th event will be contributed directly to PATA in support of the Valentine Fund! We are proud to bring you a celebration of actors. In true Oregon spirit, the winners are those who excel both in craft, and in their commitment to building community. Find out who wins - join us on Sunday, October 12.

Tickets Available for 11th Annual BendFilm Festival October 9-12 in Bend, OR
Tickets and passes are now available for BendFilm, Central Oregon’s premiere and celebrated Film Festival. Full Film Passes are $150, Full Festival Passes are $250, and tickets for individual films and screenings are $11. To view a complete line up of independent films and purchase tickets or passes, visit www.bendfilm.org or call 541-388-3378. “This year’s program is one of the best Film Festival lineups I’ve seen,” said BendFilm Festival Director Todd Looby. “We are screening 94 films. We have two world premieres, one US premiere and dozens of regional premieres. We love bringing films to Central Oregon that would otherwise not have made it here.” The Festival released the names of the films totaling 16 narratives, 17 documentaries and 61 shorts. Festival director, Looby; Board member and Programmer, Juli Hamdan; and their screening team selected the films. In the spring of 2014, Moviemaker Magazine once again included BendFilm in the “Top 50 Film Festivals worth the Entry Fee”. On the heels of its 10th Anniversary Celebration, BendFilm seeks to expand to a greater year-round presence in Central Oregon – already boasting wildly successful screenings of Alex Gibney’s “The Magic Trip” on the 50th Anniversary of Ken Kesey’s iconic bus trip across the US; and, in conjunction with the Tower Theater, hosted a packed screening of Steve James’ acclaimed documentary, “Life Itself”. BendFilm also aims to expand its educational programs all over Central Oregon. BendFilm is proud to announce that for the first time in the fest’s history they are partnering with the Confederated Tribes
of Warm Springs to screen two Native American-themed films at the reservation, WINTER IN THE BLOOD and RETURN OF THE RIVER. Brooks Resources Corporation is once again sponsoring the $5,000 cash prize for Best of Show – an amount unique among four-day regional film festivals. Indie Women for Independent Film will sponsor additional $500 cash prizes in multiple categories. Panavision has also donated an impressive camera package worth $60,000 to go to the Best Narrative Feature. The festival’s Jury includes some of the “Best of the Northwest” filmmakers and personalities: Cinematographer, Ben Kasulke; Producers, Mel Eslyn and Lacey Leavitt; Film Journalist, Erik Henricksen; Academy-Award Nominated Animator, Mark Gufstason; and Shorts Programmer for several key festivals, Hebe Tabachnik.

OMPA member Jose Solis featured in “Sign Painters” Oct 2 at PNCA in Portland
OMPA Members and friends are invited to a screening of the movie “Sign Painters” at PNCA. Please feel free to invite all the creative people in town: designers, artists, painters, etc. and stick around for a Q&A with local sign painter Jose Solis after the screening. Date: Thursday, Oct. 2nd Location: MFACD Studios, 1330 NW Kearney Time: 6:30 pm film screening, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A About the film We see them almost every day without a second thought. Weathered by time, distinct characteristics shining through, hand-painted
signs are a product of a fascinating 150 yearold American history. What was once a common job has now become a highly specialized trade, a unique craft struggling with technological advances. Sign Painters, directed by Faythe Levine & Sam Macon, stylistically explores this unacknowledged art form through anecdotal accounts from artists across the country including Ira Coyne, Bob Dewhurst, Keith Knecht, Norma Jeane Maloney and Stephen Powers. These vanguards of unseen originality are leading a renaissance with a keen creative purpose and exemplify the working class American success story. Sign Painters celebrates those keeping the tradition intact with a bespoke approach and appreciation for a balance between art and commerce. More information on the film at www.signpaintersfilm.com
