Fashion photographer Robert John Kley shined a spotlight on the hottest swimsuits of the season while capturing the very essence of the Roman Baths. For his photographs, Robert strategically positioned his lights to create the illusion of late-afternoon sun, giving our model a natural glow.
Stylist Christie Moeller chose swimsuits in soft, ethereal colors—white, cream and blue—and paired them with stunning statement pieces from jewelers like Tiffany & Co., Hearts On Fire and Roberto Coin. “We wanted to project the image of a bathing goddess,” she said, adding, “The swim market is booming with fresh, interesting styles this season.”
Celebrity journalist Shep Morgan, who interviewed Lionel Richie, joked with the singer about how it appears that he has found The Fountain of Youth. Richie’s response, “I would love to tell you my cosmetic surgeon’s name, but I have something better—genetic power,” he told Shep, revealing that his grandmothers lived to ages 98 and 103.

The Life of Bourbon Room Believer Troy Burgess When “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” is performed to great enthusiasm during ROCK OF AGES, Troy Burgess is swept back to his youth—more specifically, to the car of his youth. “I’m in my old Volkswagen Rabbit, and I’m listening to Journey on the cassette player,” says Burgess, who plays Bourbon Room proprietor Dennis Dupree in the stage musical at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. “That was the anthem of my life.” These days, Burgess cruises Vegas in his white EcoDiesel 1500 RAM pickup, equipped with air-conditioned seats and Wi-Fi in the cabin. “I look at my life, in general, and go, ‘Come on,’ ” Burgess says. “I seem to have the same consistent, happy feeling all throughout my days here. I really do.” There’s a lot for Burgess to celebrate, as ROCK OF AGES roars into its fourth year in Las Vegas. Set in 1987 on L.A.’s infamous Sunset Strip, the metal musical tells the story of Detroit boy Drew, and small-town girl Sherrie, both chasing their dreams with hopes of making it big. Burgess, donning a multicolored shirt that fits snugly around his belly and underneath his fringy leather vest, plays the slightly addled visionary operator of the Bourbon Room—a place to which Burgess readily relates to.
“Every tiny bit of it sings to me,” he says, adding, “other than there’s no PBR [Pabst Blue Ribbon] on tap. Then it would be spot-on. But my dressing room looks exactly like the Bourbon Room. I’ve got memorabilia all over the walls.” While not in his plans, Burgess moved to Las Vegas when his wife, Yesina, landed a job as a dancer in the stage production “Fantasy.” “Vegas was never on my radar, not even for a second. But it is probably one of the coolest surprises in my life, to live and work here.” Another cool surprise came when a famous rocker visited Burgess after a performance and related a story of a song he co-wrote when Burgess was a teenager. The artist was Jonathan Cain. The song? “Don’t Stop Believin’.” “He comes up to us after the show and you find yourself thinking, ‘Wow, I’ll be lucky to spend fifteen or twenty seconds with him;’ and it was actually about five minutes,” Burgess explains. “He told us the whole story, and we were there listening to him; and I have to tell you, that was definitely a standout moment.” As the cast of ROCK OF AGES sings in every show—hold onto that feeling.

Each July, Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course hosts the American Century Championship. A favorite for fans who dock boats near the 17th green, this celebrity golf tournament has been attracting athletes like John Smoltz, Roger Clemens, Michael Jordan and Tony Romo for years. Long days on the lake end in purple sunsets and rocking nights at Harveys Summer Concert Series. The 7,200-seat outdoor amphitheater has hosted a wide range of acts. Elton John, Brad Paisley, Aerosmith, Imagine Dragons and Kenny Chesney all played last summer. Those looking to try their luck can stay at Harrah’s or Harveys on the Nevada side. Harrah’s Lake Tahoe just renovated its 512-room hotel. The resort has two floors of luxury suites, though even the standard rooms at Harrah’s are deluxesize with two bathrooms and angled windows so you can gaze out at both the mountains and lake.

Take me out to the beer park. Sports fans are singing the praises of Beer Park by Budweiser—a game-day party perched on the deck of Paris Las Vegas. Complete with picnic tables, this 10,000-square-foot rooftop sports bar fires up burgers, brisket, ribs and sausages on an outdoor grill, dishes out concession snacks from roaming carts on the patio, and serves more than 100 beers—36 of them on tap.
Big changes are coming to The LINQ. Over the next few months, the outdoor dining and retail hub will open a handful of new restaurants including artisanal gelato maker Amorino, Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips and the Purple Zebra frozen daiquiri bar. Also opening: Virgil’s Real Barbecue, which will serve smoked meats such as Memphis-style pork ribs, Carolina pulled pork and Texas beef brisket in a 14,000-square-foot space with a poolside patio.

Bacchanal Buffet’s Carne Asada and Tortillas Guy Fieri is ready to show Vegas how he parties when south of the border. Located near the VooDoo Beach pool, his newest endeavor, El Burro Borracho promises a party atmosphere with a big selection of tequilas, margaritas and imported beers— all to accompany Fieri’s fun take on Mexican cuisine. The first Strip restaurant for the UNLV-alum, Guy Fieri Vegas Kitchen & Bar, was met with huge fanfare, something Fieri will replicate at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. “After the killer response at The LINQ, I knew I wanted to expand and bring another rockin’ concept,” Fieri explains. “When I think of the Rio, I think of having a kick-ass time. That’s what Burro is all about: a big-time party with real-deal flavor.” There’s already one El Burro Borracho outpost at Harrah’s Laughlin, but in Las Vegas, Fieri plans to step up his game. The menu will feature familiar vehicles such as tacos and burritos, but with traditional fillings such as beef machaca or achiote chicken— all fired in Fieri’s trademark style.

But when it comes to his restaurant, the Food Network host has his own philosophy. “I’ve learned to appreciate the Mexican culture and its respect for great food,” he says. “What a lot of people don’t know about Mexican
food is that there is a vast diversity. It’s not all burritos and tacos, folks.” As to why he chose the hilarious name El Burro Borracho, which translates to the drunken donkey in Spanish, “You just said it: because it ’s hilarious! Mexican food is fun. Who doesn’t love a great margarita with their meal? Chips, salsa, tequila shots and table-side guacamole—sounds like a good time to me!”

The one item every woman needs in her jewelry collection is a “beautiful, powerful cocktail ring,” according to Italian designer Roberto Coin. Well, luck be the ladies because the Appian Way Shops at Caesars Palace is now home to a roughly 1,000-square-foot Roberto Coin boutique that has all the “relaxing harmony of the colors” found in his unique pieces.
The designer also has a signature stone he includes in every piece. Taking inspiration from the Egyptian folk belief that a ruby touching the skin promotes long life, health and happiness, Coin began including a small ruby in all his designs “to send these wishes through my creations,” he says.
Coin projects his love of art, history and travel into each design. “Style is part of us in every moment,” Coin explains. “Every jewel tells a story that can be different for every individual style, but the must that has to remain is quality and classic elegance.”
This spring, Roberto Coin will launch more than 450 new pieces, and he’s already working on a fall campaign that will include designs dedicated to Caesars Palace, Las Vegas and Rome—a nod to his new home and the inspiration for his next line.

MINISTER OF LOVE Lionel Richie soared to the top with chart-busting hits like “Hello,” “Stuck on You,” and, of course, “All Night Long.” But he wasn’t just selling records. His songs about love were putting his fans in the mood to do more than listen to the music. “I will take some credit for helping to populate the world,” he says with a familiar chuckle. “It’s like I was there singing in their bedrooms. I guess that’s why I’ve been called ‘The Minister of Love.’” Earning that title has made Richie a superstar with over 100 million in album sales, Grammy and Academy awards, and sold-out concerts around the world. Now, he’s bringing the love back to Las Vegas with his residency show at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, “Lionel Richie— All the Hits,” beginning April 27. Richie is full of enthusiasm about returning to a city where he first performed with The Commodores. “I’ve been through the era where you’d walk down the street in Vegas and it was Frank, Dean, Sammy and a bunch of other

We were like, ‘We’re going to do Vegas and kill it’ and we did— selling out the Aladdin.” Ironically, the former Aladdin hotel is now Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, bringing Richie’s return to Las Vegas full circle.
RETURN TO LAS VEGAS “Vegas is the place to be again,” he continues. “They’ve reinvented it bigger and better than ever. It’s Sin City, and it’s bringing a new crowd. My litmus test is my 21-year-old son, Miles, who is my manager. I said to him, ‘What do you think about me playing Vegas?’ He said, ‘It’s the coolest thing in the world.’” Richie has put together a highenergy show that gets an extra kick from the special effects he can’t bring when touring. “It’s too expensive when you’re on the road,” he explains, “but I can make it happen at The AXIS. Whether you want to fly onto the stage or dance on the ceiling, anything is possible.”

The heart of the evening remains what millions of fans love most: the songs that have made Richie one of the best-selling artists of all time. “It’s like I’m giving you my version of the Rocky Horror show because it’s sing-along at its finest,” he says. “There’s no way the audience is going to be quiet so I hope you’re coming to hear the person next to you sing. People will be laughing hysterically, or crying hysterically whether it’s ‘All Night Long’ or ‘Stuck on You,’ because my songs bring back every memory you ever had.” Of course, the evening also includes Riche’s signature anthem, “Hello,” which he admits has gotten almost as much attention recently as it did when it was released, thanks to Adele’s mega-hit recording with the same title. “When I finally heard it, I didn’t know how to react,” he admits. “She was singing

While audiences at The AXIS will be reliving their own scrapbook of memories sparked by Richie’s songs, there’s one they probably won’t hear him perform—the one that got him through some tough times and made him cry. “My father was dying,” he recalls. “I was getting a divorce and considering surgery because I wasn’t sure if my vocal cords were going to hold up. A good friend of mine said he had some inspirational songs I should listen to. It turned out they were on my early albums, and one of them was “Jesus Is Love.” I had written it to reach out to people in the midst of their troubles. The Commodores and I performed it to close one of our Vegas shows. I didn’t realize its power until I played it again for myself. I started bawling. I was
thinking, ‘What kind of narcissistic singer breaks down listening to his own music?’ Then I realized I was given some answers when I wrote the lyrics, and it was just time to apply them to my own life.” Ironically, Richie reveals the spiritual connection almost drew him to preach love instead of sing about it. “I was going to Tuskegee University and then on to a seminary to become a minister,” he says. “Meanwhile, I joined The Commodores. I remember one night, some girl in the front row at a show screamed at me, ‘Sing it baby!’ and just ran to the stage. I’d never had a girl scream at me before. That was like a moment of sexual awakening. I called my preacher and said, ‘I don’t think

I’m minister material.’ But after I’d done ‘We Are the World’ with Michael Jackson, that same preacher sent me a note saying, ‘There are two types of ministers: those that minister on every street corner and those that preach to the masses. Your ministry is doing quite well.’” The 66-year-old Richie sees his return to Las Vegas as just another step in a life that keeps getting better. “I am enjoying the ride. As long as I can keep smiling on the inside and the outside,” he reflects. “I can’t tell you how many times people say to me, ‘Hello. I love you.’ When you have that, you can’t give up on love. It’s running me over. The journey has been amazing.”

Out of this World JENNIFER LOPEZ Throws a Las Vegas Block Party “Vegas, there’s a new girl in town,” Jennifer Lopez declared after singing her first chart-topping single, “If You Had My Love” on opening night of her new residency. “I was born to do this.” “JENNIFER LOPEZ: ALL I HAVE” is a booty-shaking dance party full of furs, feathers and fashion. Welcome to Jenny on the Strip. The Shades of Blue actress and American Idol judge had been living la vida loca as she intensely prepared for her January show opening. With the help of a five-piece band, 16 dancers and countless costume changes, Lopez vigorously ran through a dynamic set that included “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” “Let’s Get Loud,” “Dance Again” and “On the Floor.” Her choreography ranged from street dance and burlesque to Latin hustle. Lopez returned to her roots, singing in front of a New York City Subway 6 train wearing sequined pink trousers and a Yankees cap for a baseball bat-swinging rendition of “Jenny from the Block.” She later added a heartfelt rendition of Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance,” which was her most personal and emotional song of the night. In the end, Lopez proved she’s dialed in to her new zip code.
