COUNTRY STAR KEITH URBAN ROCKS THE COLOSSEUM BY MARK GRAY Many of music’s biggest names have graced the stage of The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, and it’s now home to a real Urban legend in 2020. In January, Keith Urban, long one of country music’s most elite performers, kicked off a 16-show residency, bringing his non-stop energy to the famed showroom. Although the residency was new, The Colosseum is familiar grounds to Urban, as the four-time GRAMMY® Award winner was the first artist to play the theater following its massive 2019 renovation. The theater—including its 110-foot-by-43-foot LED wall—can barely contain Urban’s show, which is an energetic non-stop barrage of hits, including “Long Hot Summer,” “Wasted Time” and “You’ll Think Of Me.” The show is more akin to a rock ‘n’ roll experience than a country concert with Urban feverishly working his way through songs from his nearly 30-year career for

almost two hours. Simply put, it’s Urban at his best, as he showcases his guitar skills, which many regard as the best in the country genre. A true showman, Urban takes time to interact with his audiences, many of whom are known to bring homemade signs to his shows. While he has no trouble selling out arenas, Urban takes advantage of the intimate Colosseum setting and even performs multiple songs in the middle of the crowd on a makeshift stage. “This show is about EVERY person—no matter where you are in the arena,” he tweeted after his first Vegas performance, which he described as “spiritually righteous” and “euphoric.” Urban’s residency is a jackpot for Caesars Palace and music fans everywhere.

TAHOE’S LAKE TOWER REMODELED

CAESARS EXPANDS TO ARIZONA

Harveys Lake Tahoe is finishing renovations on all 519 guest rooms in the resort’s Lake Tower. Inspired by nature, the new rooms (to be completed in June) will feature natural textures and wood accents with deep blue chevron carpeting mimicking the color of Lake Tahoe. The room renovations (the tower’s panoramic lake-view balcony suites were remodeled previously) are the latest in a $41 million makeover at the property, which includes the debut of Gordon Ramsay HELL’S KITCHEN Lake Tahoe.

Caesars Entertainment has announced plans to build its first non-gaming hotel in the United States. The 11-story boutique resort will have 266 rooms and suites, and feature two restaurants from Giada De Laurentiis. Caesars Republic Scottsdale will also sport a rooftop pool and bar with views of Camelback Mountain. The hotel is being built near Scottsdale Fashion Square and is expected to be completed in 2021.

3 KANSAS CITY WELCOMES GORDON RAMSAY Gordon Ramsay Steak has opened in America’s Heartland. The Harrah’s Kansas City steakhouse is Ramsay’s first restaurant in the Midwest. The menu not only features his signature beef Wellington and legendary sticky toffee pudding, but Ramsay also pays tribute to Kansas City barbeque and promises seasonal specialties with fresh ingredients from local farmers.

Caesars Entertainment has invested nearly $300 million into its Atlantic City resorts over the last four years. The company has upgraded the Waterfront Conference Center, revamped the Pool After Dark nightclub, opened a Gordon Ramsay Steak restaurant and remodeled rooms at its resorts. Next up—the 416-room Laguna Tower at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City is getting a facelift. Hardwired for business travelers, the technology-rich rooms offer high-speed internet and charging stations.

In just its first year of operation, Gordon Ramsay HELL’S KITCHEN at Caesars Bluewaters Dubai has won two top honors at the 2019 BBC Good Food Middle East Magazine Awards. The restaurant was named Best British Restaurant with Head Chef Craig Best taking home the Chef of the Year award.

BUDDY V’S PIZZACAKE OPENS AT HARRAH’S LAS VEGAS Las Vegas has its very first cake vending machine. Tucked into Buddy Valastro’s new fast-casual PizzaCake at Harrah’s Las Vegas, the sweets-filled ATM is stocked with giant cake slices including flavors like chocolate, red velvet, rainbow and carrot. Modeled after a New York-style pizzeria, the Strip-side restaurant is a combination bakery and pizza joint with a menu packed with pizza (sold as whole pies or by the slice), cakes and sweet dessert pizza.

FLAVORS OF FLAY Bobby Flay rolled the dice on Las Vegas long before other prominent chefs. Only Wolfgang Puck fired up a kitchen before Flay opened Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace fifteen years ago. Since then, Mesa Grill has served more than 350,000 margaritas and fed nearly 2.5 million guests, many dining on signature dishes such as his Tiger Shrimp + Roasted Garlic Corn Tamale, Ancho Chile-Honey Glazed Salmon and New Mexican Spice Rubbed Pork Tenderloin. “Mesa Grill has served as a stage for me to showcase my love of Southwest cuisine,” Flay says.

STEAKHOUSE & SPEAKEASY The all-new Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse at Flamingo Las Vegas pays homage to the property’s past with a menu full of classics and some surprises you may need to “know a guy” to order. Choreographer, dancer and World of Dance judge Derek Hough is about to go Footloose with a new show, Derek Hough: No Limit, at Flamingo Las Vegas. Hough says he’ll take fans on a journey exploring various dance genres including ballroom, tap, salsa, hip-hop and more. “Performance is my passion, and I am excited to showcase this in an intimate and personal way,” he says. “I hope everyone will leave feeling moved and inspired to get up and dance!”

However long it took you to read the seven Harry Potter books, the wacky “Potted Potter” parody condenses it to a short, rather intense, 70 minutes. That means you’ll see all your favorite characters, a fire-breathing dragon and a Quidditch match as two excitable actors bring the magic of Hogwarts to the stage. From the mystical world of Harry Potter we take you to see real-life mystic Frederic Da Silva. FLAMINGO WILDLIFE HABITAT CELEBRATES 25 YEARS For the past 25 years, the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat has been a steward to hundreds of animals—many of them rescues, including the flamingos. The four-acre habitat is home to eight Chilean flamingos, more than 60 exotic birds, dozens of turtles and scores of fish including catfish and koi. Robin Matos, a wildlife curator, has been caring for the animals since the very beginning. “It’s so unique,” she says. “The Strip is energetic, exciting and fun and you can come here and just relax.” Attend one of the daily pelican feedings to learn more about the animals.

EIGHT CHEFS FACE OFF ON NEW FOOD NETWORK SERIES VEGAS CHEF PRIZEFIGHT Las Vegas is used to hosting prizefights—but this time, the knives really did come out. In the new Food Network series Vegas Chef Prizefight, eight chefs battled to become head chef at Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse at Flamingo Las Vegas. The champion of chow is Lamar Moore, veteran of several top Chicago restaurants.

What technical skills were you searching for? We were looking for all of it. The chef of such a giant organization needs to have great experience, great leadership skills, and clearly great cooking abilities. There was a lot involved in this because there’s a lot at stake. Why is Las Vegas such a great backdrop to host this type of program? Vegas is Vegas; there is only one. What better place to do a show like this? It really lets the chefs know just how vast but also how wildly competitive Vegas is.

Hosted by Anne Burrell, the seven-episode series challenged chefs to create dishes and prove they have the talent, leadership and determination to run the high-profile restaurant. Moore and his competitors showed their skills in restaurants including BLT Steak, El Burro Borracho, GIADA, MR CHOW and Restaurant Guy Savoy.

What’s the best advice you received while learning to become a chef? To put your head down, hone your craft, learn as much as you can, accept your failures as much as your successes, keep a level head, and to remember that being a chef is also about being a great leader and teacher.

“We brought in a group of chefs who were participating in this interview process, and the last chef left standing now gets to be the head chef of the brand-new Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse in the Flamingo,” says Burrell. “It’s very exciting!”

Las Vegas has become a culinary mecca. What makes it so appealing? In such a small area, there is probably the biggest collection of world-renowned chefs, probably more than anywhere else in the world. People come to Vegas to get something that they can’t get in their normal life.

From careful social distancing policies to stringent cleaning and disinfection procedures, we’re working to make this a truly worry-free destination during your visit. “The new protocols are focused on the well-being of our team members, guests and communities to create environments with high standards of sanitization and physical distancing practices,” says Tony Rodio, Caesars Entertainment CEO. They were designed in consultation with public health authorities, gaming regulators and infectious disease specialists. You may have already seen the signage on the new protocols throughout the property. Five years after a hugely successful two-year residency at Caesars Palace, the record-breaking artist returned to the desert to try her hand at another residency—and make no mistake about it, “Let’s Go!” is a party. The two-hour show is a highenergy foray into Twain’s biggest hits, including “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” “Don’t Be Stupid,” “Up!” and, naturally, “You’re Still The One.” While Twain gives her audiences a few brief moments to rest, her show is a stand-onyour-feet celebration of countrypop singalongs. Twain has told audiences that she plans to introduce new music into her 23-date residency, but quickly points out that the show will always rely heavily on her vast array of familiar songs. “Let’s Go!” features a Prince tribute, her dog Melody and multiple moments of crowd participation (you may end up onstage dancing the country can-can in the Twain Town Saloon). It’s the perfect reflection of who Twain is: a simple Canadian girl who grew up singing on bar tops and went on to become a global superstar and one of the biggest-selling artists of all time.

Las Vegas just added some sass. Packed with eye-popping fashions and over-thetop performances, RuPaul’s Drag Race LIVE! brings the hit television show to life onstage at Flamingo Las Vegas. Hosted by Asia O’Hara, the world’s most famous drag queens come together to compete in a series of challenges before they have to lip sync for their life to avoid elimination. While the live show follows the script of television’s Drag Race, the performances are much more intense and extreme. “The costumes. The aerial acts. With people coming down from the ceiling and flying around the room, it’s sensory overload,” explains Derrick Barry, one of the performing queens. Vanessa “Vanjie” Matteo says the Vegas stage provides the cast the opportunity to push the limits of a traditional drag show. “This is what’s fresh and new. People go to fashion shows to see what is new. This is the Milan [Italy] of drag.” RuPaul, who attended the opening show, had high praise for the stage production. “The show is a smash it. It really is. I think this will be the first time in history a Vegas show goes to Broadway, rather than the other way around.”

NFL Draft Picks Las Vegas in 2022 The NFL may have had to skip a trip to Vegas this year because of the city’s COVID-19 shutdown, but just wait: We’re hosting the NFL Draft in 2022. “We look forward to holding an even bigger and better event than we could have ever imagined this year,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in announcing the 2022 Draft city, home of the new Las Vegas Raiders. The location plans previously announced for this year will remain in place for 2022. Caesars Entertainment, the Official Casino Sponsor of the NFL, will host the NFL Draft Main Stage which will be constructed next to the CAESARS FORUM Conference Center. It’ll be “an ONLY VEGAS experience football fans will never forget,” said Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

A Sting Residency Blooms in Las Vegas Fresh off his latest album, My Songs (a contemporary take on his most celebrated hits), and a European tour, Sting arrives in Las Vegas with a new residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. “I am a little frightened and a little excited at the same time,” Sting told the Associated Press ahead of his opening show May 22. “I always thought, ‘I’m not quite ready for that. I’m still a touring animal.’ (Now) I’m ready.” Spanning his career with The Police and as a solo artist, his “Sting: My Songs” show will include visual effects paying homage to his most iconic music videos for songs such as: “Every Breath You Take,” “Roxanne,” “Fields of Gold,” “Desert Rose” and “Brand New Day.” “I’ll be telling the story of my life through my songs. I’ve had a long, interesting life. I can’t wait,” he explained. “Visually, sound-wise, dancing— it’s going to be a Vegas show. I’m really committed to that.”
