Dear Carnival Celebration Guests:
It’s with great pride that I welcome you aboard Carnival Celebration, the newest innovative FUN ship from Carnival Cruise Line.
This ship is in part an homage to the memorable vacations Carnival Cruise Line has been providing from PortMiami for the past five decades, but more importantly, it’s also an investment in the future of the cruise line and our hometown. As we finish our celebration of 50 years of fun, this ship takes cruise vacations to a new level for our guests sailing from Miami.
Carnival Celebration shares a name with one of our earlier vessels, and much like her predecessor, MS Celebration, which debuted in 1987, she is an innovative marvel, bringing guests new experiences and attractions at sea while surrounding them in a beautiful, joyful atmosphere that takes cues from the ship’s Miami homeport and paints the perfect backdrop for the fun that is synonymous with Carnival Cruise Line.
Having spent my entire career at Carnival, I promise you that these past 50 years have flown by and have been filled with many special moments. And I am personally thrilled to welcome back our friend Kathie Lee Gifford and her daughter, Cassidy. It’s very special to have Cassidy serve as this ship’s godmother and continue Carnival’s special relationship with the Gifford family.
On behalf of everyone at Carnival Corporation, we appreciate your choosing Carnival for your vacation and look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
Wishing you a wonderful vacation full of relaxation and, most importantly, fun.
Sincerely,
Micky Arison Chairman
Carnival Corporation & plc

NOVEMBER 2022
Dear Carnival Celebration Guests:
Welcome aboard the beautiful Carnival Celebration, the culmination of our 50th Birthday festivities and a very special ship that celebrates our rich history while charting a path for our future.
Our company was born with the vision of our founder Ted Arison — who wanted to make cruising accessible to everyone. With that vision always at the heart of everything we do, along with the idea that Carnival ships represent “FUN,” we have worked to stay true to these guiding principles by growing Carnival Cruise Line into a popular vacation option, a dynamic economic engine, a great employer and a place where our guests and team can come together to make incredible vacations. But wherever our ships go, we always know that Miami is home, and we are proud that PortMiami has grown into the cruise capital of the world. And we are thrilled that Carnival Celebration is homeported here and that we can showcase our reimagined Terminal F.
Our crew of more than 1,700 is here to serve you and ensure that you have a memorable cruise vacation. I can attest to the fact that our secret sauce is our team members! It’s the dedication and passion of the Carnival team that has driven our success, delivered the FUN and made Carnival not only America’s Cruise Line, but the most popular cruise line in the world. And for that we thank our 40,000 team members from 120 nationalities around the world! We are a Carnival Family and that family culture has made Carnival into the diverse company that we are today.
I also want to thank you for choosing to sail with us. This ship is going to wow you with her incredible array of amenities from dining and entertainment to shopping and relaxation. There’s so much to do on this ship and we hope you take advantage of it all and then some.
From all of us here at Carnival Cruise Line, we hope you enjoy your Carnival Celebration vacation, and we look forward to welcoming you aboard again soon.
Voyage, Christine Duffy President Carnival Cruise Line

NOVEMBER 2022
To the Fun Family at Sea!
As your Chief Fun Officer, I want to be sure you know of all the fun there is on board the beautiful new Carnival Celebration, and wow, is there a lot to cover!
First and foremost, we already know that we’ve got BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster. Carnival pioneered this exciting feature on sister ship Mardi Gras and now there are two roller coasters at sea — and only on Carnival! BOLT is part of one of this ship’s six zones — The Ultimate Playground.
The other zones are home to endless opportunities for fun as well, including the brand-new travel-inspired The Gateway, tribute-to-Miami 820 Biscayne and Celebration Central, as well as the Summer Landing and Lido zones which, like BOLT, have proven to be very popular on Mardi Gras
Since Carnival Celebration is the ultimate 50th Birthday gift, it was only fitting that we include nods to our “Fun Ship” history from the past five decades throughout the ship. We’ve woven artifacts from some of our first ships into venues all over for you to discover. I encourage you to take a day to explore the ship and try to spot them all.
Of course, we can’t forget about all of the food — including my Big Chicken restaurant with fried chicken, sides and all the fixings based on my family’s favorite recipes. My slice of heaven is only one of the many — seriously many — delicious choices to dine on board.
And if you’re looking to relax and unwind, say no more. Check out the Cloud 9 Spa, Loft19 or the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat.
No matter what you crave, I know you’ll find it here. As your Chief Fun Officer, trust me — you’re in the best hands!
Enjoy your time aboard Carnival Celebration, and I hope you’ll sail with us again soon!
Sincerely,
SHAQUILLE O’NEAL

It all started here: TSS Mardi Gras, the first Carnival ship.
FIFTY YEARS
& COUNTING
Arison buys full ownership of Carnival for $1 in cash and the assumption of $5 million in debt.
Ted Arison started it all 50 years ago with a simple plan: create fun, memorable cruise vacations for everyone. The plan came to life on March 11, 1972, when Carnival was born. Since then, the cruise line has led the industry it helped to create, always with fun at the forefront.
Here’s the rest of the story:

Carnival Celebration isn't the end of the story but the start of the next chapter.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Carnival team members share their memories.
A surprising number of employees have been with Carnival for most of its journey. Here are thoughts from a few:
GAIL STONE
Online Specialist, Guest Services and Support
43 Years
What does Carnival's 50th Birthday mean to you? I have been with Carnival for 43 years and I have watched it grow from three ships to 25-plus ships and become what it is today, a very successful company! I am so proud that we have hit this milestone.
STEFAN CHRISTOFFERSSON
Vice President, Housekeeping, Laundry & Vessel Sanitation Program, Guest Operations 30 Years
What motivates you to come to work each day after all these years?
The people. I love the family atmosphere and the trust that was placed upon the onboard team to take care of each other, the guests and the company. I ended up being hotel director at 26 (for Carnival Victory) and couldn’t imagine being given that amount of trust by too many companies. Surrounded by great people made it easy. I can’t believe it. I still feel (perhaps don’t look) young and still very excited each day.
DOMENICO ROGNONI
Senor Vice President, Compliance, Environmental & Occupational Safety 40+ Years
What motivates you to come to work each day after all these years?
I feel blessed to work for such a great company. I come to work every day with the same energy that I had when I started my career. The best motivation for me is to assist the ships on everything that they need. Every day is different. Safe operation, environmental excellence and a healthy environment where everyone is respected and treated equally are at the top of my priorities.
KIM LLAGUNO
VICKY REY
Vice President, Guest Care and Guest Communication 40 Years
What is your favorite memory at Carnival?
It's hard to pick one but having dinner with Micky and Madeleine Arison in Venice after the Miami Heat won their first championship is definitely in the top three.
Fun Expert, Guest Services and Support 40 Years
How much has changed from when you started working at Carnival to now?
Back in the day when I was hired, there were only three ships in our fleet. Micky Arison would walk the reservation floor and there was a famous clipboard that listed the sailings for the next 30 to 45 days.
Technology has definitely enhanced and changed the way we work, for the better. Sailings are listed years in advance and we have really expanded our fleet since the 1980s.

LOOKING BACK WITH MICKY ARISON
The chairman of Carnival Corporation & plc reminisces about the company his father started and he helped to build.
When Micky Arison, chairman of Carnival Corporation & plc, looks back and thinks about Carnival Cruise Line celebrating its 50th Birthday, thousands of memories return, such as his favorite marketing campaign – “If My Friends Could See Me Now” starring Kathie Lee Johnson – and having lunch in the officers’ dining room on TSS Mardi Gras, the old ocean liner that became Carnival’s first ship. “They had the best lasagna you ever tasted,” he laughs.
He remembers the sixth sense of an Italian captain’s wife who told Arison and his wife, Madeleine, that they were expecting a baby (their daughter) – something the young couple was not aware of at the time.
Arison spent his whole career at Carnival, starting as a salesman. He was named president in 1979
when he was 30 years old. He attributes the growth of the company to hiring “smarter people” and letting them lead.
“We worked hard, but we always had a great time,” he says.
From the early days, he recalls the waiters in the main dining room carrying Baked Alaska on their heads, dancing and singing to “Could You Be Loved” by Bob Marley. What particularly impresses him today is the variety of dining options on board Carnival ships. “I had the best meal at the Bonsai Teppanyaki on the new Mardi Gras,” he says. While he admits to loving junk food, he has learned to like sushi, thanks to restaurants on the ships.
Another passion is entertainment. He fondly looks back at the ever-evolving “schtick by different cruise directors” that became mainstays of the company.
“I have always appreciated and made a point of trying to watch all the entertainment,” Arison says. “With Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration it’s just off the charts. It’s a step up from where we were ten years ago; forget about fifty years ago. We have Broadwaycaliber people working on these ships, and it’s just a thrill to watch and see.”
He is proud that while updating food, entertainment, service and amenities over the years, Carnival continues to offer affordable vacations and the ships continue to be places where vacationers can let their hair down, relax, have a good time.
“Passengers who book a Carnival cruise are predisposed to having a great time as soon as they walk on a ship,” he says, adding with a laugh, “They may celebrate memorable events such as birthdays and weddings and anniversaries, or they may celebrate Monday.”
He’s also proud of the international crew who come from dozens of countries “and live together and enjoy each other’s company and work as a team.”
As Carnival celebrates its 50th Birthday, Arison wants guests to know he appreciated every time they played bingo, supported the crew, went to shows and gave the performers standing ovations. “I know you appreciate us,” he says. “We appreciate you.”
Arison finds it amazing to realize that Carnival now has 40-year employees and guests who have been cruising with the line through the decades. He says, “It’s been a helluva ride, and it will continue to be a helluva ride.”

“WE WORKED HARD, BUT WE ALWAYS HAD A GREAT TIME.”

REMEMBERING TED ARISON
An appreciation of the man who didn’t just found a cruise line. He created an entire industry.
You might think that Ted Arison, founder of Carnival Cruise Lines, was a big dreamer. He was more of a creator, says his son, Micky Arison, chairman of Carnival Corporation & plc.
“He was an entrepreneur,” Micky says. “He liked to create stuff. He was very artistic in his thinking and style.”
Before he started Carnival, Ted Arison ran cargo businesses. When he moved to Miami in 1966 at age 42, he had recently sold a successful business. He didn’t retire. He came up with an idea for a cruise line.
Ted got together with Norwegian businessman Knut Kloster to start a cruise company. When that partnership didn’t last, Arison decided to start his own cruise line with the help of Meshulam Riklis, a childhood friend who owned a tour company in Boston. They purchased Carnival’s first ship, a retired ocean liner.
Arison was 48 when TSS Mardi Gras launched in 1972 as an ocean-liner-turned-cruise-ship, with just enough fuel to make it to San Juan. “He proved there’s no good age to start your vision,” says Giora Israel, senior vice president of Carnival Corporation & plc, who has worked
with the Arison family since 1984. “When you have a vision you just go for it.”
Right from the beginning, Arison imagined a world where cruising would be an affordable mainstream vacation choice. His ships would visit great ports of call, but the experience would even more be about what was happening on board – great cuisine and entertainment, casinos, and fun for all.
The new cruise line did not get off to an auspicious start. When Mardi Gras left PortMiami, it promptly got stranded on a nearby sandbar. Everyone made it safely back to shore, but not before a fun night with all the bars serving free drinks. What could have been a big negative was turned into a positive.
“I think this was the birth and creation of the ‘can do’ DNA of our culture,” says John Harshaw, who joined Carnival in 1993 and is now vice president of IT connectivity for ports & destinations.
Two years after the launch, Carnival was still smalltime, but Arison remained focused on his goal of delivering his customers memorable vacations. In 1974, he bought full ownership of the company for $1 cash and an assumption of $5 million in debt. A year later, with a second retired ocean liner added, the company started making a profit.
Arison’s brilliance was clear, says Israel. He developed the idea of year-round Caribbean cruise vacations, at a time when most resorts were only open from November through April.
He was determined that his ships would be completely sold out; Carnival developed marketing strategies toward that goal. Sometimes, during busy times at the Carnival reservations center, Arison would pick up the phone himself.
Early on, he recruited Joe Farcus, a young hotel architect, to design Carnival ships. Arison gave Farcus complete creative control and only once rejected a design — a lounge inspired by the 1970s song “Disco Inferno” with a hell theme and simulated fires.
20 CARNIVAL’S 50 th BIRTHDAY SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE
In 1979, now with three old ships and the line’s first new build, MS Tropicale, on order, Arison decided to hand the day-to-day operation of the company over to Micky, age 30, who had been working his way up at Carnival. “Micky was a kid,” says Israel. “It was a brilliant move.” Micky Arison grew Carnival to be “the World’s Most Popular Cruise Line” and later led its initial public offering and expansion as Carnival Corporation & plc, a multi-brand company and the preeminent cruise company in the world.
Even after turning over the reins of the company, Ted Arison continued to be involved enthusiastically in bringing out new ships. An avid fisherman, he would take out his boat and gather a flotilla of fellow boaters to welcome each new Carnival ship into Miami.
Harshaw remembers Arison’s face when Carnival Destiny, the world’s first megaship, debuted in 1996. “He had this great big smile,” Harshaw says. “He knew Carnival had achieved what was previously thought to be impossible.”
Ted Arison stayed on as chairman of the board until 1990.
When he passed away in 1999, at age 75, The New York Times called him the “godfather of the modern cruise industry.” To his long-time employees he was more than that.
Shahnaz Kashanipour, who joined Carnival in 1989 and is now guest operations leader, recalls having a group of crew members awaiting a ship in a cold warehouse in Finland. A tall gentleman showed up and joined the crew in doing aerobics to keep warm.
“Later the captain introduced us, and Ted goes, ‘We already met,’” Kashanipour says. “With Ted, it was like, he didn’t say ‘I am so and so.’ He was just part of us.”

HEADS OF THE CLASSES
Innovation and imagination have been at the heart of Carnival’s groundbreaking ships.
22 CARNIVAL’S 50 th BIRTHDAY
Opposite page: Carnival Fantasy This page: The grand atrium on Carnival Sensation, part of the Fantasy Class which introduced the largest atrium at sea.
When Carnival launched the 27,000-ton TSS Mardi Gras in 1972, the former ocean liner was the biggest ship ever to sail from Miami — so big that the pilots refused to take the ship out to sea at night, says Micky Arison, chairman of Carnival Corporation & plc.
“Because she was larger, we were able to have a broader range of activities,” Arison recalls. “We put in a casino, which no one had at the time.”
That first ship set a pattern that Carnival continues today: innovation. From the first waterslide on a North America cruise ship to full-fledged waterparks and ropes courses, from soaring atriums on the world’s first megaship to roller coasters, and introducing the first ship in North America to operate on cleaner-burning liquefied natural gas, Carnival has been a trendsetter.
“The Carnival ships have made waves, broken records, and introduced stunning innovations,” says Peter Knego, cruise historian and writer.
Only three years after Mardi Gras’ launch, in 1975, Carnival purchased Empress of Britain and remade it as TSS Carnivale. That was followed in 1978 by the purchase of S.A. Vaal, which Carnival transformed into TSS Festivale after a $30 million refurbishment that made the ship the largest and fastest ever to sail from Miami to the Caribbean.
Carnival shocked those in the fledgling cruise industry when the company ordered its first new build, the 36,674-ton MS Tropicale — at a cost of $50 million, which sounded exorbitant at the time. Debuting in 1982, the ship introduced an innovative funnel design by soon-to-be-legendary cruise architect Joe Farcus. It was the first ship in North America with a waterslide at the pool.
FIVE DECADES OF FUN 23 SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE
MS Holiday followed in 1985, launching a class of larger, 46,052- to 47,262-ton contemporary ships, with interior designs by Farcus, who began to experiment with his innovative “entertainment architecture.” These ships uniquely eliminated the portside interior promenade in favor of a large starboard promenade — with public rooms off a “main street” — which became a staple on Carnival ships for many years. They also added whimsical touches like a bus on Holiday and a streetcar on MS Celebration, which joined the fleet in 1987.
The eight-ship Fantasy Class, beginning with the 70,367-ton Fantasy (later renamed Carnival Fantasy) in 1990, remains one of the largest and most successful classes of cruise ships ever built. Carnival Fantasy had the largest atrium at sea, a soaring, jaw-dropping affair, done up in white marble and with 15 miles of neon. Farcus let his creativity run wild, each subsequent ship with its own theme, no two alike. Carnival Paradise debuted as the world’s first smoke-free cruise ship.
The 101,000-ton Carnival Destiny, launched in 1996, started the cruise industry’s
megaship trend. It was the largest ship in the world — with more staterooms with verandas, amenities and dining options than the industry had ever seen, and a three-story theater that was the largest at sea.
“It took what Carnival had developed with the Fantasy Class and did it on a scale that would have been inconceivable a decade before,” says Aaron Saunders, author of Giants of the Sea: The Cruise Ships That Transformed Modern Cruising
Ships in the Destiny Class were later relaunched as the Sunshine Class.
The four-ship Spirit Class, starting with 84,000-ton Carnival Spirit in 2001, was designed specifically to fit through the Panama Canal and introduced all-weather pools, among other standout features. Arison calls these smaller ships his favorite class. A unique feature of this class is the iconic winged funnel featuring a glass dome, tinted in red, over the atrium and supper club/steakhouse below. Today, the supper club is the popular Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse.

Each of the five ships of the Conquest Class — Carnival Conquest (2002) and its four sister ships — weighs in at 110,000 tons and is 59 feet longer than Carnival Destiny. The class debuted with a recordbreaking 22 lounges, bars and nightspots.
The 113,323-ton Carnival Splendor was launched in 2008 with the largest spa in the fleet and spa staterooms plus expanded children’s facilities.
Grabbing the flagship spot in 2009, the 128,000ton Carnival Dream introduced a new custom attraction called the Drainpipe. It was the first slide at sea to end in a bowl rather than a traditional shutdown lane. The Dream Class also debuted an 18-hole mini-golf course and a twodeck Serenity Adult-Only Retreat.
Carnival also introduced the first lanai decks at sea on the Dream Class on Deck 5, dramatically increasing the outdoor deck space on board. The lanai deck was a major expansion to the traditional promenade deck, allowing guests to enjoy fresh air, sun lounging, whirlpools and outdoor furniture, complementing the adjacent indoor spaces like Ocean Plaza.
Slightly larger sister ship Carnival Magic (2011) introduced the first ropes course at sea, a thrilling affair, and the Splash Zone, the first multi-level water playground at sea with a tipping bucket. Carnival Magic introduced RedFrog Pub, the first branded indoor-outdoor bar experience. The
success of this concept led to multiple brand extensions featured on a number of ships that followed, such as the poolside RedFrog Rum Bar and RedFrog Tiki Bar.
In 2011, Carnival Liberty (first launched in 2005) became the first ship in the fleet to be updated as part of Fun Ship 2.0, which added such marquee attractions as Guy’s Burger Joint and Alchemy Bar.
The 133,500-ton Carnival Vista launched in 2016 as the first ship built specifically with Fun Ship 2.0 enhancements. The ship also debuted a new, friendly island décor and offered such wow features as the first IMAX Theatre at sea, as well as a unique SkyRide aerial biking experience and the first shipboard brewery in North America.
Sister ship Carnival Horizon (2018) upped the fun with a Dr. Seuss-themed Carnival WaterWorks park and the first Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse, while Carnival Panorama (2019) introduced the Carnival Kitchen culinary experience and boasts the first trampoline park on a cruise ship.
With their roller coasters — and as the first ships in North America to operate on liquified natural gas — the next-level Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration uphold a 50-year legacy of creativity and innovation.

HERE’S TO THE GODMOTHERS
Actresses, journalists, scientists and other women of accomplishment long have been honored as godmothers of Carnival ships. The godmother of Carnival Celebration is part of a long legacy in the maritime tradition of naming a female patron and protector for a new vessel.
Asked his favorite Carnival godmother, Micky Arison, chairman of Carnival Corporation & plc, properly chose his wife, Madeleine Arison, godmother of Carnival Triumph Daughter Kelly Arison carried on the family tradition serving as godmother when the ship was re-christened as Carnival Sunrise
Kelly's grandmother, Lin Arison, was godmother of Carnival Sunshine in 2013. The wife of Carnival founder Ted Arison, Lin is also godmother of the very first Carnival ship, TSS Mardi Gras, as well as Holiday in 1985 and

Another Carnival family connection came recently with the naming of Lucille O’Neal as Carnival Radiance godmother. O’Neal is the mother of Carnival Chief Fun Officer and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.
Among many memorable Carnival godmother moments over the years, perhaps none were as dramatic as when Carnival Splendor was christened in the UK in 2008.
As the ship’s godmother, Myleene Klass, the British singer and presenter, played the song "Sailing"
on the piano, a Royal Navy diver emerged from the sea. With fins still on his feet, he pulled himself up five decks of the ship on a rope to break the ceremonial champagne bottle by hand.
Grammy Award-winning artist and actress Queen Latifah, godmother of Carnival Horizon, participated both in the ship's official naming ceremony and a special “Lip Sync Battle: Horizon” showcase, held on board during an overnight gala in New York City. "With her fun-loving spirit and positive, can-do attitude, Queen Latifah embodies our brand and knows how to ‘Choose Fun’ in everything she does,” Carnival President Christine Duffy said at the time.

In Carnival tradition, godmothers are chosen not only for their celebrity but also for their philanthropy. Queen Latifah, like Carnival Cruise Line, is a long-time supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. For Carnival Magic, Carnival honored as godmother Lindsey Wilkerson, a patient at St. Jude as a child and later an employee there.
Highly accomplished astronaut and astrophysicist Tamara Elizabeth “Tammy” Jernigan, godmother of Carnival Pride, completed five space shuttle missions and logged more than 1,512 hours in space. As part of the Discovery crew, she took part in the first shuttle landing at the International Space Station. With Carnival Glory, Carnival turned to space again, this time recognizing American physicist and astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space.
Actresses have also been part of Carnival’s godmother family, such as Mira Sorvino (Carnival Liberty), Kathy Ireland (Carnival Freedom) and Marcia Gay Harden (Carnival Dream). Kathie Lee Gifford, the TV host, entertainer and longtime Carnival spokesperson, was godmother of the original Celebration and Carnival Ecstasy. Among others with substantial movie or TV followings are journalists Paula Zahn (Carnival Paradise) and Katie Couric (Carnival Valor) and the esteemed actress Dame Judi Dench (Carnival Pride).
Carnival has had a longstanding relationship with the TV game show Wheel of Fortune, with both Pat Sajak and Vanna White on board ships to tape segments of the show, and other cross-brand promotions over the years. So, it was a natural to name Vanna White as godmother of Carnival Panorama.
Former U.S. Army Pfc. Jessica Lynch, who served in the invasion of Iraq, christened Carnival Miracle in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2003. "We are privileged that Miss Lynch, who represents the thousands of courageous American men and women serving in our armed forces, has accepted our invitation to be godmother of our newest ship," said Bob Dickinson, then-president and CEO of Carnival.
Miss USA Deshauna Barber, the first woman serving in the U.S. military to win the title of Miss USA, smashed the champagne for Carnival Vista. The ceremony was part of an overnight gala honoring Operation Homefront and featuring an exclusive concert by GRAMMY-award

winning country music superstar Carrie Underwood. Hundreds of invited military families accepted a Carnival invitation for complimentary attendance. The event was the culmination of a yearlong effort by the cruise line to raise funds for Operation Homefront, an organization with a mission “to build strong, stable, and secure military families.”
The most dramatic announcement of an upcoming godmother came live on TV during the MISS UNIVERSE competition, when Carnival President Duffy awarded Miss Dominican Republic Kimberly Jiménez the first-ever “Spirit of Carnival” award and announced Jiménez would be godmother of the new Mardi Gras. Duffy applauded Jiménez for embodying the company’s values of fun, friendship, diversity and inclusion, and being a role model for female empowerment.

Carnival's iconic red, white and blue winged funnel looks like a whale’s tail and has been interpreted as a reference to the sea. The creation of the funnel was much more practical.
For MS Tropicale, the first newbuild construction project, Carnival founder Ted Arison wanted something different from the classic funnels on the line’s first three ships, all converted ocean liners.
Joe Farcus, legendary designer of many Carnival ships, says discussions on a new funnel began one night after dinner on TSS Carnivale. He and Arison were out on deck admiring the horizon. When they looked back at the funnel, they saw it was directing smoke over the ship. “Ted said to me, ‘You know, Joe, the funnel is of course the hallmark of cruise lines, and it is very important that it be designed in a way that allows the smoke to get away from the ship,’” Farcus recalls.
An idea was born for a new and unique funnel design.
Farcus’ mind went to aerodynamics. “I began to think, if you want to create turbulence that creates lift, look at the wings of an airplane passing through the air,” he says. “I thought that principle would probably work in designing a ship funnel, so I began sketching.” Later, he created a model of his winged funnel design, which he presented as a gift at a birthday party for Arison in Miami. “He just loved it,” Farcus says.
Others were more skeptical, including naval architects at the Danish shipyard contracted to build MS Tropicale. They said the design was both crazy and expensive. Their architects came up with a traditional straight-up alternative.
Eventually, when a scale model of the ship was built and a wind tunnel test was conducted to see which funnel worked best, the new design won out.
With their winged funnels and red, white and blue livery, Carnival ships are the most recognizable in the cruise industry. “I am extremely proud that I designed the funnel, and it worked, and it is beautiful,” Farcus says.

The Story of Carnival’s Most Famous Symbol
Carnival made a dramatic change in its longstanding red, white and blue livery with the launch of Mardi Gras. The new patriotic hull design emphasizes Carnival as “America's Cruise Line.” As part of the 50th Birthday celebration, the entire fleet is receiving the new look, with a navy-blue hull inspired by officers’ uniforms and red and white accents running the entire length of each ship.

CARNIVAL’S MOST ENGAGING MARKETING CAMPAIGNS
They all have one thing in common: A little three-letter word with a very big idea.
If you were watching TV in the 1980s, you know the Carnival “We’ve Got the Fun” campaign starring Kathie Lee Johnson (who became Kathie Lee Gifford in 1986).
Gifford belted the song “If My Friends Could See Me Now." The lyrics were changed to emphasize the fun Carnival experience:
If they could see you now Out on a Fun Ship cruise Eating fancy food and doing what you choose . . .
Additional ads featured the song “Ain’t We Got Fun,” adapted with lyrics such as “The food is great here, there’s never a bill . . .”
Carnival was the first cruise line to advertise on national TV, and the spots were filmed on ships, Gifford changing from swimsuit to ballgowns and mingling with Carnival guests.
The impact was profound. When the ads first debuted in the Cleveland area, most readers of The Plain Dealer newspaper had never even been to the Caribbean, much less on a cruise there. “Carnival was a major player in changing the vacation plans of my readers,” says the newspaper’s longtime travel editor, David G. Molyneaux. “My favorite: ‘You should see me now.’ The idea was that your neighbor was out there cruising, and you should start saving your pennies because you can do this too.”
Thirteen years after the ads debuted, they were replaced in 1997 by animated fish and dancing palm trees, with Gifford doing the voiceover of the tagline: “I guess some vacations are just more fun than others.”

Over the years, Carnival TV spots have featured music by the Beach Boys (“Fun, Fun, Fun”), Cyndi Lauper (“Girls Just Want to Have Fun), Sly & the Family Stone (“Hot Fun in the Summertime”) and Queen (“You’re My Best Friend”), plus “Beyond the Sea,” the song made famous by Bobby Darin.
Fun in many forms has been emphasized over the years, as have the memories Carnival ships help make.
“Choose Fun” is the current slogan and has resulted in campaigns such as basketball
great Shaquille O’Neal, as Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer, launching “The Fun Ones” to celebrate the playful spirit of Carnival guests.
More recently, Carnival debuted “Funderstruck,” inviting people to “Choose Fun” by booking a vacation with America’s Favorite Cruise Line. Funderstruck is that feeling of euphoria you get when having uninterrupted fun with people you enjoy spending time with — an experience uniquely delivered on Carnival ships.
The playful marketing legacy continues.
Fun is at the heart of every Carnival cruise, and that's been the message in every marketing campaign. Entertainer Kathie Lee Gifford starred in several promotions since appearing in the first one, the groundbreaking "We've Got the Fun" series.

“GROWING UP ON MIAMI BEACH
I THINK I GOT A REAL FEEL FOR WHAT PEOPLE ON VACATION WANT
- JOE FARCUS
Carnival started out with a fleet of creatively repurposed ocean liners. As the company pursued building new ships, the goal was to be original, different, and eye-catching in ship design.
Carnival Founder Ted Arison found just the guy for the task, a young Miami hotel architect named Joe Farcus, who started working with Carnival in 1975 — and continued for more than 40 years.
Farcus says today that as soon as Arison started talking “Fun Ships,” he knew he had found his muse. “I could understand what Ted was trying to do,” he says. “Growing up on Miami Beach I think I got a real feel for what people on vacation want, especially a fun-in-the-sun vacation.”
As a contract architect, Farcus was given pretty much free rein. His creativity seemed boundless. He coined the phrase “entertainment architecture” to describe how he would approach each ship individually, creating unique public rooms inspired by each ship’s name.

Carnival fans were not the only ones who waited eagerly for what story Farcus would tell next.
“Joe is a really unique designer and it was always interesting to see a new build come together, when it was his design,” says Micky Arison, chairman of Carnival Corporation & plc. “You couldn’t see how all these pieces came together, until it all came together. And then you put the crew in uniforms and the passengers would come on board and it was great.”
Everyone has a favorite Farcus design. Arison recalls the Fantasy Class’ Carnival Fascination with its Hollywood theme, remembering “hilarious” interactions between guests and strategically placed celebrity lookalike mannequins.
Glenn Aprile, Carnival’s director of new builds product development, a 21-year employee and self-professed “cruise geek,” recalls the Touch of Class piano bar on Carnival Sensation, a ship themed around the five senses; the bar’s theme was “touch.”
“All the booths were inside cupped hands and the barstools were hands with a cushion on it for you to sit on,” he says. “There were hands holding up the cocktail tables. There were hands everywhere.”
There is new appreciation for the glitz and glamor.
“In the 90s and 2000s, I looked at Carnival décor and said that’s not for me, it’s too loud,” says Aaron Saunders, author of Giants of the Seas: The Ships That Transformed Modern Cruising. “Now I look back on that and realize how special that décor is.”
Farcus set the stage for fun, says Saunders. And that essence has continued.
By the end of the first decade of the 21st century, Carnival’s Evolutions of Fun was introducing such consistent fleet experiences as WaterWorks water parks and Serenity Adult-Only Retreats. “They had a set color palette and a

visual identity and we tried to keep it consistent as we rolled it out from one ship to another,” says Aprile.
Fun Ship 2.0, which was a major update launched in 2011, brought restaurants such as Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki; bars like Alchemy, and entertainment such as the Punchliner Comedy Clubs. Ships such as Carnival Breeze introduced and showcased a new, contemporary tropical vibe.
“Design-wise you have an overarching narrative for each space; you have a visual identity. We were looking holistically at the whole experience,” Aprile says.
Mardi Gras brought neighborhoods such as the sexy French Quarter, and with its atrium theater, taking entertainment design into the stratosphere.

The journey from limbo contests and pillow fights to Broadway-quality productions.
40 CARNIVAL’S 50 th BIRTHDAY
— CHRISTOPHER NELSON Vice President, Entertainment
Back in the early days, Carnival guests caught rays out on deck to calypso tunes performed by a steel band, watched Vegas-style shows backed by a live orchestra, listened to piano tunes, participated in limbo contests, tried their luck at casinos and maybe caught a magic act featuring a real live cougar. A highlight of all cruises was the late-night conga line around the deck.
Some things have changed in the past 50 years and some have remained popular (calypso music, piano bars and casinos among them). The old mainstays of cruise entertainment — events such as ladies’ nightgown competitions for men, pillow fights, pie-eating competitions, beer-chugging contests and the cougar — have disappeared like the VCRs that used to be in ship staterooms.
What has not changed is that entertainment is a key attraction on Carnival ships.Today, dazzling Playlist Productions shows are produced inhouse and performed by entertainers who bring
an array of talents to the stage. They rehearse at Carnival’s own state-of-the-art studio in Florida.
Punchliner Comedy Clubs host some 25,000 performances by comics each year — making Carnival the largest producer of live comedy in the world. Live bands perform all around Carnival ships, and young guests are wellentertained with age-appropriate activities in children’s programs supervised by experienced and enthusiastic youth counselors.
“We are constantly developing new experiences for our guests," says Christopher Nelson, Carnival’s vice president of entertainment. "To do so we built a 45,000-square-foot creative and rehearsal space in South Florida. Carnival Studios allows us to experiment and develop shows, music, games and activities for the entire Entertainment Department.”
Adds Nelson, “Our mission is to create experiences for people to participate, watch, observe, enjoy.”

THE SHOWS GO ON
Carnival’s director of Carnival Productions, Kerry Stables, has been with the company since the 1980s and performed as a dancer on the original MS Celebration Back then, she recalls, shows looked a lot like Las Vegas revues, complete with glitzy costumes. “They were very Las Vegas driven, with a lot of bare skin,” she says. The shows took place in three acts and in between the dance performances there were vaudeville-style performances by jugglers, magicians, comedians or musical soloists.
On early cruises, the dance cast organized activities — and entertainers pushed their own scenery onto the stage. But entertainment and activities evolved quickly and continued to evolve over the decades.
Carnival began producing its own shows in 1991 with the debut of Carnival Ecstasy, where Stables was a dance captain. “The shows were conceived, choreographed and directed in-house,” she recalls. “They were still three acts, with ten female dancers, four male dancers, an acrobat duo, a male singer, female singer and live orchestra.”
The orchestra also backed up contestants in the popular talent shows as well as an array of variety entertainers such as musicians and comics. Cruise directors led a host of activities.
Through the 1990s, new musical acts appeared, including soloists on the Promenade, and karaoke grew in popularity. Camp Carnival evolved as a popular youth program, attracting families with kids to the cruise brand. Today, the award-winning Camp Ocean program, launched in 2014 for guests ages 2-11, and separate tween (Circle C) and teen (Club 02) programs attract more than a million kids a year. In 2017, Carnival debuted Seuss at SeaTM, introducing young cruisers to The Cat in the Hat and other Dr. Seuss characters during fun events such as Seuss-a-palooza Story Time and the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast.

Carnival’s original conga line morphed into deck parties, only recently given names such as Sailaway, 80s Rock-N-Glow, Tiki Fest and the Mega Deck Party. Other activities also became Carnival standards, such as the hysterical “Love and Marriage” game show (originally called “The Newlywed and Not So Newlywed Game”) on the main stage.
Carnival’s Fun Ship 2.0 program, beginning in 2011, raised the brand’s standards for entertainment even higher. Playlist Productions shows, a high-tech series featuring eight talented singer-dancers, debuted on Carnival Breeze in 2011. Carnival also put out calls for talented musicians as it organized its own bands across several musical genres.
Another 2.0 development was “Hasbro, The Game Show,” featuring larger-than-life adaptations of beloved board games. The competition was a precursor of such attractions as “Family Feud Live!” which debuted on Mardi Gras
Carnival Studios, opened in Davie, Florida, in 2017, was part of Carnival’s continued investment in high-quality entertainment. There, Playlist Productions show teams practice on stages replicating shipboard facilities, while musicians rehearse in high-tech studios. Hundreds of performers come through the studios, as shows and musical acts continue to roll out across the fleet — including the amazing Center Stage aerial performances on Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration
Nelson says the most popular activities on Carnival these days are production shows, comedy, live music, deck parties, trivia and karaoke, with creativity in entertainment productions another constant.

AN
EVOLVING PALATE
Carnival’s culinary scene has come a long way from the days of the midnight buffet. Today’s discerning diners can feast on global fare prepared by celebrity chefs.
From the beginning in 1972, Carnival has put a big emphasis on food and beverage – and continues to be praised for the results.
Back in the day, the Lido buffet was burgers and hot dogs, while the chefs in the one main dining room prepared such international favorite dishes as duck l’orange and cherries jubilee.
Special nights that featured a focused cuisine broadened the dining room menu.
Italian night, French night, Mexican night and American night, with such dishes as Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings, were among the favorites.
Lavish midnight buffets awaited those passengers seeking late-night munchies.
FIVE DECADES OF FUN 47 SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE
No one could foresee the dining future, but a hint materialized when Carnival Imagination introduced the cruise line’s first 24-hour pizzeria. Complimentary dining options started to grow and so did the idea of specialty dining, including steakhouses where you could get a great steak and chops in a romantic, date-night setting.
New culinary ideas kept coming. “There was no big ‘aha’ moment,” says Richard Morse, senior vice president of food and beverage. “The evolution grew naturally from observing and listening to guest preferences.”
Quickly becoming a Carnival mustdo when it debuted as Carnival’s second specialty restaurant in 2011 was Cucina del Capitano. It was inspired by the line’s Italian captains, with a menu to match the tastes of their families.
Even as specialty dining expanded to include Asian and seafood specialties, the complimentary main dining rooms became grand two-story affairs and broadened their options. Carnival introduced Your Time Dining, so guests could choose dinner during early seating, late seating, or any time they liked.

Lido buffets increased their variety with chefs preparing dishes hot off the grill. The Carnival Fun Ship 2.0 reimagination expanded options, adding such favorites as Guy's Burger Joint, the BlueIguana Cantina and Bonsai Sushi.
Carnival has continued to innovate, launching a food delivery app in 2021, for instance, so guests could easily use the HUB App to have pizza, wings, fried shrimp and chicken tenders delivered anywhere on the ship, any time they want a snack.
CELEBRITY CHEFS COME ABOARD
Food Network star Guy Fieri, whose first Guy's Burger Joint debuted on Carnival Liberty in 2011, was a huge and immediate hit. He wowed Carnival guests with his open-air Guy’s Burger Joint on an open deck, producing tens of thousands of decadent burgers on Carnival ships each day. Burger consumption rose. The partnership with Fieri has expanded with his amazing Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse | Brewhouse on the newest Carnival ships.
Most recently joining the ranks of Carnival’s celebrity chefs are Emeril Lagasse with his first-at-sea bistro on Mardi Gras, Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal with his Big Chicken and culinary great Rudi Sodamin with Rudi's Seagrill.

DRINK MENUS GET WILD
The first Carnival ships served popular 1970s cocktails such as the Tom Collins and Harvey Wallbanger. Rum punch was made with whatever was on hand. The beer was Budweiser and the wines, generic.
Things began to change in the 1980s, with piña coladas, strawberry daiquiris, Miami Vice and other frozen mixers gaining in popularity.
“You started seeing all the neon colors behind bars. Think back to Tom Cruise in Cocktail,“ says Edward Allen, Carnival’s vice president of beverage operations.
Fast-forward to Fun Ship 2.0. Allen, a beverage expert with experience in New York and Vegas, introduced new concepts that quickly became fan favorites.
An instant hit was Alchemy Bar, a pharmacy-themed venue where you check off your likes on an RX pad and the bartenders create a drink just for you. It’s so popular there’s a Friends of Alchemy Bar Facebook page.
Poolside hangouts – BlueIguana Tequila Bar and RedFrog Rum Bar –also became fan favorites. For beer lovers, Carnival Magic introduced RedFrog Pub, serving ThirstyFrog Red, a private label beer.
Allen, a craft beer fan himself, expanded the program into North America's first shipboard breweries –the first on Carnival Vista, where a pro brewer created craft beers right on the ship. Today there are breweries on five ships, and six brewers.

Beer lover and writer John Roberts of In the Loop Travel recommends ordering a flight of craft brews. “It could be a pumpkin ale during the fall, for example, alongside the traditional favorites of ThirstyFrog Caribbean Wheat, Port Hoppin’ IPA and the rich Java Stout.”
Another notable innovation: self-serve beer from portable units so you can pour your own pint in Lido without having to find a bar waiter.
Carnival built up its wine collection too — into a Wine Spectator award-winning program. “Our wines are hand-selected for our guests to enjoy at a variety of different price points and with an array of regions and varietals,” Allen says.
Mardi Gras introduced such molecular drink surprises as the smoking Crystal Ball cocktail. Carnival Celebration now celebrates the past with reimagined versions of classic drinks and special 50th Birthday creations.
One Carnival tradition that has endured is The FunShip, a special Embarkation Day cocktail that includes Bacardi Superior Rum, Amaretto and tropical fruit juices. It's the perfect way to celebrate the adventure and fun that lie ahead.
“It’s about tasting a drink and creating a memory,” Allen says.

PORT PROGRESS: BUILDING UP AND GIVING BACK
How Carnival developed its private destinations to offer guests more experiences and give back to the Caribbean for its support of cruising.
As Carnival grew with more ships in the 1990s, a need arose for additional port destinations in the Caribbean. “This was driven by repeat customers who wanted more diversified itineraries and more families wanting casual destinations and realizing ships were more attractive than going to Orlando,” says Renata Ribeiro, senior vice president, destinations.
Realizing that islands themselves might struggle to develop expensive port facilities, Carnival stepped in. The result of these investments was the creation of ports that today are among the most popular in the world and that have a positive impact on local economies through jobs and business opportunities for residents.
The major investments started in 1999, when Carnival invested in a port in Mexico. Today, Cozumel’s Puerto Maya, with its dozens of shops and restaurants, is the most popular cruise transit port in the world.

Opposite page: Grand Turk Cruise Center.

With the success of Cozumel, Carnival looked to expand to other western Caribbean destinations. In 2003, a deal was crafted with Roatan, Honduras. Though it took until 2009 to open Mahogany Bay in partnership with a local businessman, today it’s one of the most popular ports in the Caribbean. Guests enjoy the shops, restaurants and entertainment — the cool feature is a chairlift ride to private Mahogany Beach.
Carnival then looked to develop central Caribbean itineraries and found the ideal destination. Grand Turk Cruise Center opened in 2006 with shops, restaurants, an 800-foot beach and a recreation center. Today, Grand Turk is the No. 3 most-visited cruise port in the world after Cozumel and Nassau.
The next focus was the Dominican Republic. In partnership with a local family, Amber Cove opened in 2015 in the northern region of the country. A fan favorite, Amber Cove has the highest number of people taking shore excursions of any port in the Caribbean. Guests go off-road to visit dramatic waterfalls, lounge on beautiful beaches and take fascinating cultural tours.

In May 2022, Carnival and its partner, The Bahamas, broke ground on Carnival Grand Bahama, a cruise port destination in a place Carnival has been visiting since its launch in 1972. Expected to open in late 2024 on the south side of the island, the port will accommodate two ships the size of Carnival Celebration. Guests will enjoy a uniquely Bahamian experience with features that include a stunning white-sand beach, a nature reserve and pool area and many Bahamianoperated retail, food and beverage options.
For many years, with cruises embarking from 14 close-to-home ports, Carnival also has invested in the expansion of port facilities in the U.S.
For the 2021 introduction of Mardi Gras, Carnival invested in Terminal 3, the largest-ever construction project at Port Canaveral, where the cruise line has played a significant role for more than 30 years. Carnival is the port’s No. 1 cruise line and has helped make Port Canaveral the second-most popular cruise port in the world after PortMiami.
During its 50 years sailing from PortMiami, Carnival has made significant investments, helping it become “The Cruise Capital of the World.” With the debut of Carnival Celebration, the focus has been the ship’s home port in Terminal F. The ship’s home is an expansive, 471,000-squarefoot facility, Carnival’s third terminal at the port and its largest in South Florida.

A FAMILY TRADITION
Carnival Cruise Line is thrilled to have actress Cassidy Gifford serve as godmother to its newest ship, the beautiful Carnival Celebration.
In selecting the godmother who will serve as patron and protector for Carnival Celebration, Carnival executives did not have to look far. Cassidy first started sailing on Carnival as an infant. Her mother, Kathie Lee Gifford, was godmother to Carnival Celebration’s namesake, MS Celebration, which was christened in 1987, and her father, the late Frank Gifford, was an NFL and sports broadcasting legend.
Her mother served as spokesperson in Carnival’s groundbreaking television campaigns going back to the 1980s, which were the first such network broadcasting advertisements for the cruise industry. Kathie Lee is also a four-time Emmy Award-winning television personality.
Cassidy has been acting from a young age and is best known for her work in the box office hits God’s Not Dead and Warner Brothers’ The Gallows. She has appeared in many other television and film roles, even winning the prize for Exceptional Emerging Artist at the 2018 Hollywood Film Festival. She currently lives with her husband, Ben Wierda, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Since its founding in 1982, Carnival Cruise Line has carried generations of guests and has helped millions of families make lasting vacation memories. As Carnival celebrates its 50th Birthday with the arrival of Carnival Celebration, it is pleased to also extend its relationship with another generation of the Gifford family and honored that Cassidy is her godmother.

WELCOME TO THE PARTY
At the shipyard in Turku, Finland, from left: Chief Engineer Fabien Gervaise, Captain Vincenzo Alcaras and Hotel Director Pierre Camilleri.
CELEBRATING A DISTINGUISHED TEAM:
THE CAPTAIN AND SENIOR OFFICERS
A team of highly experienced mariners has been hand-selected to lead Carnival Celebration’s crew. These talented professionals will lead a team of more than 1,700 dedicated crew members.
CAPTAIN VINCENZO ALCARAS
This is a kind of encore for Alcaras, who served as a second officer on MS Celebration 26 years ago. In fact, Alcaras will mark his 26th anniversary with the cruise line after Carnival Celebration finishes its first week in service from Miami. He first became captain in September 2006 on Carnival Miracle. Alcaras has been part of the inaugural teams for new builds, overseeing the deliveries of Carnival Breeze and Mardi Gras
“I have a strong connection with Carnival Celebration, like islands in the sea, separate on the surface but connected in the deep,” Alcaras says. “There’s nothing like standing at the edge of the ocean, seeing its vastness on the horizon, and doing so will be all the more special for me from this ship as it holds a special piece of my own personal history with Carnival Cruise Line.”
Catch him on board in his favorite spot, the ship's wheelhouse.
CHIEF ENGINEER FABIEN GERVAISE
Gervaise has been part of the Carnival family for more than 22 years, working on many ships across the fleet. He was born in France and moved to Italy as a child with his family. Gervaise began his journey as a third engineer on Carnival Paradise. He was promoted within his first two years to second engineer and became chief engineer in December 2013 on Carnival Breeze.
After all these years, Gervaise’s favorite place to eat on board is Bonsai Sushi.
HOTEL DIRECTOR PIERRE CAMILLERI
Now in his eighteenth year sailing with Carnival, Camilleri says his favorite memory is the day guests sailed away on Mardi Gras for the first time after the pandemic lockdown. Camilleri joined Carnival after managing a variety of hotel and resort properties in his native Malta and elsewhere in Europe and Asia. He has served as a hotel director since 2004 and has been part of the inaugural teams for Carnival Breeze, Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon and Mardi Gras

JOHN HEALD LOOKS BACK WITH A WINK AND A LAUGH
John Heald joined Carnival in 1987 as an assistant bartender on Carnival Holiday. He rose through the ranks to become the line’s most popular cruise director, and in that role brought out 18 new ships. Today, he’s Carnival’s brand ambassador, with a very big and loyal online following. It’s an understatement to say Heald has seen it all. He shares just a little of it here:
What’s your very favorite ship memory?
My wife came on Carnival Splendor when I was still a cruise director. She told me that she was pregnant. We had conceived our daughter on that same ship on a Hawaii sailing. That’s a memory that is very clear and present.
What’s your favorite of all the activities you’ve hosted?
It has to be “Bedtime Story,” where I told a story and had three people on stage, and it was totally improv. For me it was always the highlight of a week. The guests acted out the parts, a hero, a villain and the heroine, the lady in distress. The show was always packed.
What are your most memorable guest interactions?
The ones where I’ve been able to help people. Walking down a promenade recently, I spotted a lady in tears. I went to sit with her and she told me she had recently lost her husband, with whom she had done many cruises over 40 years. This was her first cruise on her own and she was desperately sad and lonely. I met with her every day for a cup of tea and arranged for her to have dinner with other guests. That kind of interaction to me is the most valuable.
What’s your favorite Carnival food memory?
Right now, the crispy duck, the chicken soup and the peppered beef at JiJi’s Asian Kitchen. Another comes from back when I was cruise director on the old Celebration. The ship had a laundry run by crew members from China. It was a separate entity, with its own galley, and every night they would cook traditional Chinese food for themselves. Every Friday night after my show I would take a case of Heineken way down to Deck B, and they cooked me the most incredible food.
What’s your favorite entertainment experience?
On Celebration we had a brilliant magician, Rand Woodbury, who had on board – and I swear this is real — a 400-pound cougar. During the show he would turn a beautiful dancer into the animal. The cougar lived in a cage on the top deck, in a crew area — though sometimes guests wandered there and were in for a surprise. More recently, I’ve been most impressed by the technology and talent in our shows. There is such a high standard of entertainment on board.
Do you have a favorite cruise ship joke?
I love the old stuff I used to do over the public address system, such as “Hello everybody. I am very sorry to disturb you, but I need your attention please. We have a gentleman who about an hour ago reported he lost his solid gold Rolex watch. I am very, very happy to tell you sir, the time is 11 o’clock.”
What comes to mind when you think about Carnival’s 50th Birthday?
If you asked someone who cruised 50 years ago and someone walking on Carnival Celebration today why they love Carnival, the common denominator would be the crew. The 50th Celebration recognizes not only the crew who are working so hard today but all who have gone before, who set the example and made Carnival what it is today.

WELCOME TO THE PARTY
Carnival Cruise Line is celebrating five decades of creating fun, memorable vacations, but it’s the guests who get the birthday gift: Carnival Celebration.
74 CARNIVAL CELEBRATION
Celebration Central, where the night comes alive.
The second ship in the new Excel Class is truly a celebration of all things Carnival – from milestones of the past to innovations of the present and dreams for the future. If you’ve sailed on Mardi Gras, the first in the class, you may recognize some of its features on the new sister ship. But rest assured, this sister is no twin, says Ben Clement, senior vice president of new builds, refurbishment and product innovation. “Carnival Celebration has her own personality, one that celebrates all things Carnival, intertwining where we have been with where we are going.”
Encores include BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster, which was the first roller coaster at sea when it debuted on Mardi Gras. The ship is continuing Carnival’s delicious new practice of offering more complimentary dining, and many of the previous ships’ most delicious choices can be found here.
The fun zones are back, but three of the six are new: Celebration Central (in the atrium) is a thrilling entertainment space; 820 Biscayne (Deck 8), named for Carnival’s first address in Miami, brings alive that city’s unique vibe; and The Gateway (Decks 6 and 7) pays tribute to the spirit of travel and the Carnival ships that have played such an exciting role over the last five decades.
The Gateway, in fact, is one of the most exciting parts of this enthralling ship. In a captivating, two-deck-high space, it celebrates the vintage days of leisure travel, including Carnival’s role in them, with design and decor inspired by grand terminals, transportation stations and departure points around the world.
The Gateway serves enticing food, drink and entertainment, with an extra helping of travel inspiration at two bars, Latitudes and The Golden Jubilee. Carnival history comes to life at The Golden Jubilee with authentic architectural elements repurposed from the cruise line’s most memorable vessels.
CARNIVAL CELEBRATION 75 WELCOME TO THE PARTY
SAILING THROUGH CARNIVAL HISTORY
Step into The Golden Jubilee and feel transported to the glory days of travel. The bar features artwork, memorabilia and original pieces from Carnival’s earlier vessels, with modern design touches like round windows that suggest the portholes of a classic cruise ship. It’s filled with other noteworthy touchstones of Carnival history:
• Chairs re-created from TSS Carnivale’s Riverboat Lounge paired with cocktail tables from Carnival Fascination’s Hollywood Boulevard.
• Original etched glass, nickel and mahogany partition wall from TSS Mardi Gras’ casino, separating the bar from the promenade.
• Original decorative etchings of musical instruments and polished brass and glass nightclub doors from TSS Carnivale framing one of the lounge’s entrances.
• An original bronze statue of Carnival founder Ted Arison and Finnish shipbuilder Martin Saarikangas, given as a gift from the Kvaerner Masa-Yards to the line upon delivery of Carnival Sensation in Helsinki, Finland, in 1993.
• Floor tiles surrounding the bar that feature a stylized maple leaf pattern reminiscent of the maple leaf design motif from the Grand Ballroom on TSS Mardi Gras
• Mirror inserts integrated into the bar front and bottle display, inspired by the etched glass inserts of TSS Carnivale’s main lobby doors.
Next to the bar, a promenade offers even more glimpses of Carnival history:
• A first-of-its-kind porthole gallery installation that tells the Fun Ships’ story through a series of six porthole windows. Each shows a threedimensional diorama representing one decade of Carnival’s five decades of history, with a sixth focusing on today and the future.
• An original vintage engine telegraph from 1955 installed on TSS Carnivale and permanently set to “Full Ahead” as a symbol of Carnival’s forward movement.
• Coins for every ship in the fleet, both past and present, embedded into the promenade’s floor design.
• A model of TSS Car nivale at the entrance to the Carnivale Restaurant.
• A 1:100 scale, 12-foot-long ship model of Car nival Celebration.
“The Golden Jubilee is the ultimate nod to our 50th Birthday,” says Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “It’s a nostalgic but timeless lounge where our guests can re-live and connect with Carnival’s yesteryears while enjoying a glamorous and elegant space that embraces our current style.”

ZONE IN ON THE GOOD TIMES
Carnival Celebration features six different areas of fun, fun and even more fun. Two are brand-new and a third is customized for the festive mood of the new ship.
No two guests are alike, so why should their vacations be? Carnival Celebration’s six zones are all about crafting a unique adventure with each individual guest in mind. Each zone is packed with its own unique array of dining, libation, entertainment, recreation and relaxation, from Summer Landing, which guests have come to know and love on Mardi Gras, to the all-new 820 Biscayne, inspired by the vibrant spirit of Carnival’s Miami hometown.
CELEBRATION CENTRAL DECKS 6-8 MID
Carnival Celebration has once again redefined Carnival’s atrium concept, and this time, it’s all about the party. Celebration Central features the awe-inspiring, three-deck-high atrium similar to the Mardi Gras version, but now, the ceiling appears as a burst from a confetti canon made of approximately 1,400 color-changing lighting fixtures that transform the space from day to night. Celebration Central is also home to 3,000-square-foot floor-toceiling windows, which become a dynamic viewing space when giant LED screens are placed over them to present the ship’s ever-changing entertainment lineup. Returning guest favorites include JavaBlue Café, Cherry on Top, Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki, Piano Bar 88 and The Punchliner Comedy Club

Celebration Central is also an homage to Carnival's Fun Ship history. The aptly named bar Aquaria repurposes underwater-themed glasswork by Venetian artist Luciano Vistosi, originally found on Carnival Victory. Celebration Central features an original 1934 Rolls Royce Saloon recovered from Carnival Ecstasy Its Tropicale bar is named for Carnival's first new build, the first ship to sport the wing-shaped funnel that has become an indelible Carnival symbol.
THE ULTIMATE PLAYGROUND DECKS 18-20 AFT
This playground is part amusement park, part water park and part sports pavilion, featuring a mini-golf course, full-size basketball and sports court, an exhilarating ropes course and at center stage, BOLT: The Ultimate Sea Coaster. After its debut on Mardi Gras, BOLT will be the second roller coaster at sea, bringing along the all-electric, motorcycle-inspired vehicles that race on 800-foot-long track 187 feet above the sea. Put the pedal to the metal to race up to 40 mph.
Prefer to get wet? Cool off at the largest Carnival WaterWorks in the fleet. Here, you can race friends down twin slides, splash down three spiral waterslides or get doused from a giant tipping bucket. Let your competitive spirit out at SportSquare, with a fastpaced game of hoops at the sports court or a more leisurely game of mini-golf. If you dare, strap on a harness and traverse the ropes course more than 18 decks above the ocean. Enjoy a short zip-line ride at the end – just don’t look down!
SUMMER LANDING DECK 8 AFT
Summer Landing is the place to go for the best of summer R&R — pools, beer, BBQ, live music, beanbag toss games and ice cream. You’ll get the best wake views cooling off in the pool and whirlpools located on deck 8 aft. Quench your thirst and your need for vitamin D at the al fresco Watering Hole bar. Grab a refreshing Watermelon Cooler or Tequila Sunset and find a lounge chair or patio table to call home. If the weather isn’t summery enough, slip into two hot tubs — they’re only steps away. So is a Swirls soft-serve station, because you never know when you'll need a cool treat. If you want to chill indoors, Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse offers the perfect hangout spot, complete with a bar serving Carnival’s ParchedPig craft beers brewed on board. Raise a glass in honor of the men and women who served their country bravely, at the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge When you purchase an exclusive souvenir glass at this lively spot, Carnival will donate $1 to Operation Homefront, which provides military families with rent-free housing to help get wounded veterans and their loved ones back on their feet. And what would summer be without a backyard barbecue? Chow down on Guy Fieri's succulent menu; then join us at night for a Backyard Bash, where the tables are cleared for a dance party with classic rock, punk and pop.
CARNIVAL CELEBRATION 79 WELCOME TO THE PARTY
LIDO DECKS 16-17 AFT
If your vacation centers on poolside fun and relaxation, you’ll love hitting the Lido deck for plenty of sun and even more yum. It’s got it all: pools and hot tubs, Dive-In Movies to watch from lounge chairs, BlueIguana Cantina for breakfast and lunch tacos and burritos, late-night deck parties, ocean vistas and a 24-hour supply of soft serve. All that sun got you hungry? This pool deck has gotten even more delicious, with the legendary Guy’s Burger Joint, a Seafood Shack for New England style “lobstah” rolls and Shaq’s Big Chicken restaurant. Plus, enjoy a bite from the fresh Street Eats, home to fast-good cuisine like kebabs, bao buns and seriously upgraded fries. No Lido lounge session is complete without a fruity rum-based concoction. The Red Frog is channeling the South Pacific atmosphere with a two-deck RedFrog Tiki Bar Belly up to the thatched roof bar to procure a Polynesian Punch or Jungle Bird, or try a tropical pineapple-coconut TikiFrog Ale.
THE GATEWAY DECKS 6 AND 7 AFT
Destination is the centerfold of The Gateway, one of Carnival Celebration ’s new zones, which spans two decks. Exploration comes to life each time you walk through this zone, which was inspired by grand terminals, transportation stations and departure points from around the globe and features first-class dining, entertainment and shopping. Home to the second seagoing restaurant by Emeril Lagasse, Emeril’s Bistro 1397, The Gateway is all about reimagining fun, just like the rest of the ship.
Latitudes is the new travel-inspired bar concept that brings back the memories of a classic airport or train station with its elite décor and cocktails. While you’re there, stop by for a listen as the mechanical split-flap display board changes with the daily menus and special messages.
80 CARNIVAL CELEBRATION
Nighttime is when this zone truly comes to life. Nestled above The Gateway are 12 highdefinition multimedia virtual windows and a massive ceiling display with unique scenes that take you around the world and on different adventures day and night. The zone varies with nightly themes like Abroad in Europe, Far East Voyage and Mexico Lindo with accompanying food and drink offerings that elevate the immersive experience.
“The Gateway was created to celebrate the enriching experience we all feel when traveling –not only because of the destinations we travel to, but also the world of cultures we get to explore,” says Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We have millions of guests and team members who come from around the world to have fun together and create a welcoming and inclusive environment while sailing to new places – that is the beauty of traveling, especially on a Carnival ship, and that is what this zone will celebrate.”
820 BISCAYNE DECK 8
Celebrate the culture, architecture and flavors of the city where Carnival was founded in 1972. Next stop: Miami. Deck 8 features 820 Biscayne, named for Carnival’s original Miami address on Biscayne Boulevard; it’s an all-new zone influenced by the urban-chic-meets-laidback-cool vibe of Miami. Be sure to visit Bar 820, a halfinside, half-outside retro bar with grab-and-go Cuban and specialty coffees and Miami-inspired frozen drinks and martinis. This prime spot is ideal for relaxing, people watching and enjoying the fresh air and endless ocean views. Hungry for a bite? Head over to Deco Deli or Miami Slice for delicious, mouthwatering goodies. Deco Deli is for fans of Miami’s Art Deco District who are hungry for art, culture and really big sandwiches. It pays homage with colorful decor and signage and serves up an expanded deli sandwich menu, so you can grab a traditional deli sandwich or opt for a Miami staple like a Cubano, croqueta sandwich or even the famous pan con lechon. As for delicious pizza, it’s no stranger to Carnival Celebration. Miami Slice offers the alwayspopular walk-up spot with yummy slices of pizza and a vibrant décor inspired by the late-night eateries on Miami’s famed Ocean Drive.

FEEL THE (CLEAN) BURN
Carnival keeps going with eco-friendly fuel.
Groundbreaking is synonymous with the Carnival style and Carnival Celebration is no different. The new ship is now the second Carnival ship to use liquefied natural gas (LNG), an eco-friendly fuel that’s one of the cleanest in the world.
Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras are the first two ships in Carnival's Excel Class being powered by LNG.
In its liquefied state, LNG is odorless and colorless and looks a lot like water. It’s considered to be on the forefront of marine industry fuel technology. And it maintains its “liquefied” nature by being refrigerated at a very cold temperature, minus 259 degrees Fahrenheit, in three massive tanks. Plus, when it’s stored in its liquefied state, it's 600 times smaller than in its gas form.
LNG is one of the cleanest fuels in the world and one of many investments to the Carnival fleet. This innovative fuel is used to drive the ship and power all the onboard electrical systems. It powers everything on board – think elevators, lighting, computers and . . . BOLT!
The usage of LNG is only a part of Carnival’s commitment to sustainability and environmental efforts to reduce energy consumption and its carbon footprint. Carnival is committed to preserving and protecting water, air and land resources by implementing advanced wastewater treatment systems, advanced air quality systems, shore power connection capabilities, comprehensive waste management, energy conservation programs and the reduction of single-use plastics on board.

Custom refueling equipment is put in place at Port Canaveral, Florida. Carnival Celebration is the second Excel Class ship to run on liquefied natural gas, and several more will follow.
HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS
Fifty years after the original “Fun Ship,” TSS Mardi Gras, set sail on its inaugural voyage from PortMiami, Carnival’s relationship with Miami has come full circle with the expansion of the state-of-the-art Terminal F. Since March 1972, Carnival has grown to become the World’s Most Popular Cruise Line and PortMiami is recognized as The Cruise Capital of the World.
“We are proud of Carnival’s role in making Miami the cruise capital of the world, and today marks the continuation of an incredible 50-year partnership with PortMiami and Miami-Dade County,” said Christine Duffy, Carnival president, at the project’s groundbreaking in January 2021. “This expanded terminal built specifically for Carnival Celebration will make an incredible addition to the existing facilities at our largest embarkation port.”
Terminal F, Carnival’s third terminal at the port and now the largest in South Florida, expanded to a 471,000-square-foot-facility to make room for Carnival Celebration. Boarding is now a breeze. A clean and open design allows for maximum efficiency and flexibility to accommodate Carnival’s newest ships and step-ahead technology that will make embarkation day that much more exciting.
Just like Carnival Celebration, the redesigned Terminal F features memorabilia from past Carnival ships, celebrating the 50 years of fun the cruise line and its guests have had sailing together. The expansion was designed by Lemartec Corporation, a MasTec Company. It’s a mixture of new buildings, an overhaul of existing buildings and a new take on operational flows and décor, with the heart and character of Carnival at the forefront of the expansion.
“Both Lemartec and MasTec, like Carnival Cruise Line, are the classic American dream story, born in Miami,” said Manny García-Tuñón, president of Lemartec. “We are proud to have been chosen by PortMiami and Miami-Dade County to build this iconic terminal.”

BRING HOME THE FUN
At The Fun Shops, shopping is just the beginning.
What’s the one thing you’re guaranteed to find when you shop on Carnival Celebration?
“Excitement! Differentiation!” says Jeremy Schiller, Carnival’s vice president of retail, spa, art, shipboard finance and analytics. “A desire to acquire that unique item you can’t resist and need to take home for yourself or as a present for someone else, while at the same time, feeling the shop spaces are a natural and integral part of your cruise experience. We are sure you will see how each shop is different from one another and how we also raised the bar compared to all other ships.”
On Carnival Celebration, it’s a very high bar indeed, says Lisa Bauer, president and CEO of Carnival’s longtime retail partner, Starboard Cruise Services in Miami. “Besides The Fun Shops’ usual compilation of in-demand brands, the ship carries the largest retail assortment on any ship in the Carnival fleet. With seven unique collections celebrating Carnival’s
50th Birthday, including one from famed artist Romero Britto, it may also be the most memorable at sea!”
Shopping on vacation has always been special. Whether it’s a diamond engagement ring or a cute pair of earrings, there’s just something about saying, “I got it on my cruise.” No matter what Carnival ship you sail on, you’ll find a sophisticated retail setting offering the latest selections from top-name brands in watches, fragrance & cosmetics, spirits, tobacco and more. It may remind you of your favorite landbased shopping destinations –except for the prices, which can offer substantial savings thanks to The Fun Shops’ tax and duty free status.
But on Carnival ships, the experience has evolved to its most engaging level yet. It’s even more special on Carnival Celebration, where The Fun Shops are filled with new gift collections as special as the 50th Birthday milestone that the ship commemorates.

WHAT GUESTS WANT
Recent years have brought more namebrand goods and a richer digital shopping experience. Guests can visit carnival.com to pre-order gifts and goodies for delivery while on board, for instance, or go to shop.carnival.com to purchase merchandise to be delivered to their home.
But the biggest difference, says Andres Villalever, Carnival’s director of retail, is that “we have leaned into more immersive experiences, from integrating the shops with the ship environment in a more interactive way, to bringing a larger assortment of custommade products unique to our brand, our destinations and our guest demographics.”
The changes have been spurred partly by technology. Online and mobile shopping platforms bring products to you instantly, so cruise retail has to be about more than just buying something. “For us to differentiate our offerings,” Villalever says, “we needed to make them special, unique and closer to what our guests are ultimately looking for: fun memories of a lifetime!”
Guests have responded, Schiller says, “because we offer them a large array of items that connect with them and their trip –things that are unique to them or their trip, that they won’t find anywhere else or at such a great dutyfree price.”
Few other things demonstrate how The Fun Shops have evolved like the Britto collection, featuring the Miami artist’s whimsical perspective. Britto has been one of Carnival’s retail partners for several years, introducing his first Carnival exclusives with the launch of Carnival Panorama in 2019.
“Romero is not only a great famous artist and someone who has forged a name around the world with all his amazing collaborations, but he’s also part of the Carnival family,” Schiller enthuses. “He is a true partner, someone who inspires and infuses fun into everything he does, paints or creates. Is there a better match for Carnival?”
So . . . what’s the shopping like on Carnival Celebration?
“Let’s start with the shops themselves,” Villalever suggests.
CARNIVAL CELEBRATION 87 WELCOME TO THE PARTY
DESIGNED TO ENGAGE
Standing three decks high (in the atrium on decks 6, 7 and 8), this version of The Fun Shops was designed by the visual merchandising team at Starboard, who put all their artistry into creating the ultimate shopping destination. It's a vibrant, elegant space organized into seven categories: watches & sunglasses, spirits, perfumes & cosmetics, fashion jewelry, handbags, apparel and logo items.
Special attention is given to luxury goods with What Goes Around Comes Around (WGACA), a collection of pre-owned handbags from coveted brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Dior, all certified 100 percent authentic.
The Fun Shops also present the Heroes Collection, an homage to the men and women who’ve served their country in the Armed Forces. It complements the Heroes Tribute Lounge on board, supporting a cause that’s close to the heart of America’s Cruise Line.
Carnival’s roots in the scintillating South Florida scene are showcased in the Miami Collection, an extensive selection encompassing several categories –including many only-in-Miami brands.
And then, of course, there’s Cherry on Top, the candy-and-more treat shop “where you can free your inner kid,” he adds.
“Shopping on Carnival Celebration is just the beginning of this,” he says. “It’s really about how you feel when you shop here –a customized, highly personal event that feels like it was created just for you and is seamlessly integrated with the rest of the environment on board. The celebratory theme of the ship is carried through The Fun Shops, merging with other ship venues and attractions.”
Villalever sums it up in one word: “Retail-tainment.”
More interactive experiences, more customization and personalization, more co-branded collaborations between merchandise brands and the cruise line.
Is this the future of cruise retail?
Yes. And the future is here – right now.

CARNIVAL CELEBRATION 89
JUST WHAT YOU ALWAYS WANTED! THE HERITAGE COLLECTION
It’s Carnival’s biggest and most meaningful logo collection ever, the result of almost a year of collaboration and imagination. And like everything else Carnival does, it started with the guest.
“We listened to what our guests told us they wanted and researched our best-selling items over our storied 50-year history,” Schiller says. “We were looking to invoke the spirit of fun, so we brought Fun Ship Freddy back from his long vacation and upgraded our traditional funnel hats to play music and clap. We created retro items that would remind our guests of what they experienced years ago when they sailed on Carnival for the first time. And to satiate our guests’ desire to own a piece of Carnival history, we created the Heritage Collection with limited-edition items like coin sets and ornaments, including each of the Carnival cruise ships, starting with the original TSS Mardi Gras through the reimagined Carnival Celebration.”
Villalever adds, “All of this was possible due to a new way of working, a close collaboration between our Carnival retail merchandising teams, our retail partners and our mutual vendors, which reflects a true partnership with the Carnival DNA of inspiring memories by creating fun experiences.”
Creation of the Heritage Collection brought together the retail merchandising teams from Carnival and Starboard: Maira
Luna Da Cunha, Alexandra Simon and Brent Jenkins for Carnival; Ramona Pino, Alyssa Guia, Gabriella Bitar, Nicole Diaz and Patricia Vega for Starboard.
They worked together as one team to tell Carnival’s story in a unique assortment of apparel & accessories, travel gear and mementos aligned with the look and feel of the ship.
One category they’re especially proud of is the Sustainability selection co-branded with AFS Apparel, which repurposes plastic water bottles into apparel and accessories. Also in keeping with the cruise line’s preference for earth-friendly wares whenever possible, The Fun Shops do not wrap purchases in plastic bags. Instead, inexpensive reusable bags are available for sale on board.
The team’s goal was to create an elevated, diverse merchandise assortment that would establish Carnival’s identity as a retail brand in addition to being a cruise brand. “We asked, what does this brand mean to the Carnival guest?” Pino explained.
The answer: Fun, of course, but something deeper, too. Memories and moments that matter. A branded T-shirt or a model of the ship doesn’t just tell the world you were on the inaugural cruise of Carnival Celebration. It’s also a private memory you can return to again and again, to prove to yourself that you really were part of this incredible moment.

CARNIVAL CELEBRATION 91 WELCOME TO THE PARTY
EFFY FINE JEWELRY
Carnival's fine-jewelry partner creates a sparkling celebration – and wait ’til you see Christine Duffy’s personally curated collection.
Carnival and Effy Fine Jewelry are continuing their successful collaboration, a partnership that once again offers scintillating fine jewelry designed to perfectly commemorate anyone’s journey at sea. For Carnival Celebration, the assortment includes the Return to the Sea collection, chosen by Carnival President Christine Duffy. (See “Classic and Future Favorites,” opposite page.)
Effy was founded more than 40 years ago by Effy Hematian – affectionately known as “Mr. Effy” – who built his jewelry business into one of the most admired and respected in the industry. Each piece has been carefully crafted by no fewer than 35 hands and is personally approved by Mr. Effy himself.
“From day one,” he says, “I’ve been obsessed with quality and craftsmanship. If you have a true passion for what you do, anything is possible.”
With a background in electrical engineering, he discovered his passion for jewelry design in 1976, when he fled his homeland, Iran, for the United States.
Seeing the powerful women of New York and the statements they made with their jewelry, he knew that by fusing his background and creativity together he could move the fine jewelry industry.
Mr. Effy took a moment to share his design philosophy with guests of Carnival Celebration:
What is it about colored gemstones that makes you love designing with them?
Colored gemstones give you the opportunity to be as creative as you can imagine. There are no restrictions.
Our Watercolors Collection, for instance, showcases every single color of the rainbow. The pieces can be worn virtually anywhere. Whether you’re wearing a red dress or a blue power suit, the piece will complement.
We pride ourselves on bringing the biggest and boldest of colors, the most vibrant gemstones, to the Carnival cruise guest.
How has your style evolved over the years? How has it stayed the same?
We have always tried to stay ahead of the curve and our collections and pieces speak to that. We are a mix of experimental, whimsical and even classic.
We are constantly evolving and elevating the collections, whether it’s taking a classic signature panther piece and incorporating the newest gemstone or changing the gold to match the trends.
When you begin a new collection, is there a person you imagine creating it for?
There is never one person who we design for. Inspiration comes in many forms and with over 250,000 active designs, there will naturally be pieces you love and some not so much.
The classic working woman who moves seamlessly into night, whatever her life looks like, is more than one thing. Our pieces are designed to be worn by everyone and with fluidity in where and when they can be worn.
Why is jewelry such an important element of one’s personal style?
Jewelry embodies who we are. It’s an extension of who we are, representing the people or memories that are deeply important to us and serving as a reminder of these. It also embodies the woman you want to be today or tomorrow.
Jewelry is a form of expression, with its own language, and much like a smile, it can speak to everyone. Wearing jewelry is a statement, in the same way that when you wear a beautiful formal dress or a well-tailored suit, it gives you confidence and offers an allure of elegance and sophistication.

CLASSIC AND FUTURE FAVORITES
Carnival Celebration will carry over 5,000 unique Effy designs, in classic and modern looks that offer both daytime sophistication and evening glamour. There’s something for every style, taste and budget.
The collections that Carnival guests have come to know and love are all available, including Watercolors, Nahla Tanzanite, Canary Yellow Diamonds and the Novelty assortment. Watercolors and Novelty are true favorites of the Carnival cruiser, with a color palette and design range creating a unique take on a cruise memento.
Two new entries in the Effy world are also featured:
Return to the Sea: Designed around the movement of water and ever-changing tides of time, the collection was specially curated in a collaboration between Mr. Effy and Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy, with creative direction from Danielle Duffy, her daughter. It embodies the journey guests take on board a Carnival Cruise.
Reverie: Effy presents its new in-house brand, a collection of lab-grown diamonds that give the wearer that unmistakable diamond sparkle at a price accessible to all. Each diamond is certified as real and true –inspired by nature, cultured by man.
Be sure to stop by The Fun Shops to explore these and other stunning selections from the master of colored gemstones.

ROMERO BRITTO
“TO
CELEBRATE ALL THE BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS IN LIFE”
Founder of the Happy Art Movement, Romero Britto has been inspiring the world with his creations for almost four decades. He was born in Recife, Brazil, and has lived in Miami, Florida, since 1989. Britto’s first success came soon after, when Absolut Vodka commissioned him to interpret the spirit’s famous bottle. International fame soon followed and has only grown.
Living his motto, “Art is too important not to share,” he created the Britto Foundation in 2007. Its mission is to nurture people’s engagement with art and culture and positively contribute to the needs of those in vulnerable populations.
We caught up with Britto to chat about his exclusive collection for Carnival Celebration.
Why did you want to create this collection for Carnival’s 50th Birthday?
I basically grew up with Carnival. They are Miami-based and celebrate life and creating fun memories for families — which is completely in line with what my art represents, happiness and love.
How did you collaborate with Carnival in deciding the elements of the collection?
I created the patterns used of the collection to bring to life what Carnival symbolizes on their golden 50th Birthday, which gives the grand feeling of cruising and how it feels to celebrate all the beautiful moments in life.
Is there one piece that you think is a must-have for fans of Carnival?
I think there are several pieces that are must-haves — the backpack, the hat, and for the ladies the tote! They are all so fun!
Why is happiness important, and how do you express it besides with your art?
Happiness is a journey. That’s why I founded the movement in 1989. I express happiness by painting and also by treating all with love and compassion as well as by cruising with Carnival — with FUN, of course!
CARNIVAL CELEBRATION 95
FEELING FINE AT CLOUD 9
Take vacation and relaxation to an entirely new level – it’s time to renew, refresh and relax.
Celebrate the joys of just chilling out at Cloud 9 Spa, where you can truly feel spoiled and pampered from the moment you arrive. It’s part of an unmatched selection of body-andmind enhancers that include salon and fitness services.
But first, of course, you want to know about the spa, right?
“Carnival Celebration’s Cloud 9 Spa is exhilarating, offering a wide variety of relaxation and rejuvenation services,” says Jeremy Schiller, vice president of retail, spa, art, shipboard finance and analytics.
Take a tour of this pampering haven with Schiller and Raffaela Fuhr, senior manager of spa and art services.
“For guests looking to disconnect,” Fuhr says, “our signature services like the Thai Herbal Poultice Massage will help to melt the stress away. For the active spirit, our Body Sculpt Boot Camp and Pure-Form Yoga classes will provide that great workout. And for those seeking a revitalized appearance, our Medi-Spa delivers a more youthful-looking skin and body without the downtime.”

SIGNATURE TREATMENTS
You’re sure to find something for whatever your body or mind needs (or just wants), but Schiller and Fuhr recommend three essential services:
Aroma Stone Therapy Massage
“This is a must-do to achieve maximum relaxation,” Schiller says. In this body-and-mind-balancing treatment, basalt stones are bathed in warm water, anointed with aromatic oils and massaged into key energy points on the body. The deep-penetrating heat of the volcanic stones combines with traditional massage techniques for an unmatched sensual experience.
Elemis BIOTEC Facials
“These anti-aging and rejuvenating treatments utilize world-class technology to deliver an instant reinvigorated appearance,” Fuhr explains. The Line Eraser and Firm-a-Lift facials use advanced technologies to attack concerns like age spots, sagging skin, wrinkles, sun damage and enlarged pores, while the Blemish Control treatment is a deep-cleansing facial that detoxifies the skin and repairs damaged tissue. Guys get face time too, with the Super-Charger for Men Facial that de-stresses, de-ages and de-fatigues the male complexion while activating ultimate skin dynamism.
Kérastase Salon Treatments
“Looking your best while cruising has never been easier,” Schiller promises, thanks to the Kérastase® collection of bespoke products specially formulated for every hair type, texture and concern. You can even get a professional blowout with pampering Kérastase products – get ready for the wow! on Formal Night.
Kérastase is part of a full menu of beauty treatments at the Cloud 9 salon. From facials to the latest hair trends, nail treatments, waxing and even barber services, the spa team’s goal is to make you look good and feel even better.
CARNIVAL CELEBRATION 97
And Carnival hasn’t forgotten about your tween or teen. There’s a myriad of services for young guests. “The Cloud 9 Spa offers a myriad of services for teens, with manicures and pedicures being the most popular options,” Fuhr says.
Head to Zspa for a new ‘do, a mani/ pedi or a mother/daughter or father/ son massage.
And why not try something new? The ship’s licensed acupuncturist can soothe what ails you, using lots of pins (it doesn’t hurt) to focus on areas of concern. Not your style? Try a cosmetic treatment to rid wrinkles right here on board. The ship’s Medi-Spa physician, a licensed medical doctor, can provide you with Botox or dermal fillers.
FIT FOR THE CRUISE
The fitness center provides extensive training options with the support of a highly skilled fitness team and a range of low to high intensity classes. The oceanview fitness center is packed with stateof-the-art equipment and large studios for fitness classes like yoga, Pilates, Flywheel cycling and Carnival famous boot camp. Your workout regimen can travel wherever you go – plus, the fitness
center’s personal trainers can build you a program that you can take with you when your vacation ends.
The spa and fitness facilities are conveniently located on Deck 6, making it even easier for guests to access.
“Whatever your wellness journey may be,” Fuhr suggests, “stop by Cloud 9 Spa reception and talk to our experienced staff about finding the experience that is right for you.”

Cruising with Carnival gets more palate-pleasing with every new ship, and Carnival Celebration is no exception. Menus have been tweaked and tuned; beverage selections, freshened up. The guest experience gets sweeter.
The new ship’s culinary scene is similar to that of its older sister, Mardi Gras — only more so. “We are continuing and building on what has been a tremendous success on Mardi Gras,” says Sam Ackrill, senior director of dining operations.
Continuing the expansion of complimentary dining that began on Mardi Gras, Carnival has removed the additional costs for dining
at the popular Cucina Del Capitano and the new Chinese-Mexican duo Chibang! “It’s doing tremendously well,” Ackrill says of the expansion.
“The guests really love it. It has worked so well we do not foresee any change in complimentary dining on Carnival Celebration.”
Emeril Lagasse’s Bistro 1396 has returned as Bistro 1397, and Rudi’s Seagrill is back as well. So, of course, is Big Chicken, from Chief Fun Officer/hoops legend Shaquille O’Neal. Other changes include moving the deli so it’s more centrally located and adding a late-night snack area to Summer Landing.

The beverage scene, too, has refreshed some offerings that have been popular with guests, says Edward Allen, vice president of beverage operations. Several new bars have been added as part of the 50th Birthday celebrations, with both decor and menus offering memorable touches of Carnival history.
Returning hits include the onboard brewery at Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse. "Our guests love craft beer, and having the opportunity to taste freshly brewed beer on board our ships has been a hit," Allen says.
FIND YOUR LATITUDE
One of the most exciting new bars on the ship is Latitudes, in the new Gateway zone. It's a destination-themed space that, fittingly, serves global refreshments like the caipirinha, Brazil's national cocktail; the classic Singapore Sling; and Kir, the French favorite.
The decor has whimsical touches like passport stamps on the barstools, menu designs inspired by a world atlas and a classic flip board over the bar that changes messages like an old-style airport flight-status board.

DELIVERING THE WOW
With electrifying performances on stage and around the ship, entertainment is a hit.
Opposite page and above: Aerialists and singers are part of the electrifying entertainment scene on board. Right: "Magnificent Circus" at Center Stage. Perhaps nowhere but in the entertainment offerings does Carnival Celebration live up to its name more literally.
“Celebrating gives us a moment to recognize special moments in our life,” says Christopher Nelson, vice president of entertainment. “We imagined a world where guests can enjoy that feeling throughout their cruise. Whether celebrating a milestone or celebrating the fact that you are on vacation, we developed opportunities for guests to experience something unique. These moments let guests plug in wherever they want.”
What moments? Broadway-quality productions, engaging game shows and a never-ending repertoire of music, dance, nightlife and interactive events, plus family-friendly fun for parents and kids of all ages.
From live music on deck to soaring aerialists up high, Nelson says, “we’re delivering the WOW.”
CENTER OF ATTENTION
The heart of the entertainment experience is Center Stage, an awe-inspiring space where singers, dancers and musicians are supported by an advanced production studio on the cutting edge of technology. Flying performers are lifted by 14 aerial hoist points for an eye-popping, head-raising spectacle.
Standing three decks high, it’s a technological wonder designed for morning-to-midnight thrills. During the day, ocean views fill the windows behind the stage and guests can enjoy parties and games or just meet up for coffee or drinks. In the evening, it converts to a live performance area with enormous high-resolution LED monitors — each measuring 70 feet wide by 23 feet high.

of the cruise. “Festival of Nations” celebrates the diversity of the many nations and cultures of the world, featuring a parade of flags by members of the crew from all departments. The evening includes a performance by the ship’s Youth Team, Playlist Productions performers and Center Stage band and singers, in the musical sets “All You Need Is Love” and “United in Song.”
Center Stage will present three powerful production shows:
Magnificent Circus: This immersive story of love and acceptance stars a carnival of characters in a marvelous world of wonder, fun, magic and spectacle. Here it is normal to be different, OK to be other and all right to be out there. Performers reimagine popular hits such as Christine Aguilera’s “Welcome,” Emilie Sande’s “Clown,” Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” and Pink’s “Glitter in the Air.”
Rio Carnival: Be dazzled by this Brazilian extravaganza where music and dance are celebrated with samba, bossa nova, marchinha, batucada, forró, carimbó and capoeira, accompanied by some of the most famous Brazilian songs of all time. Vibrant costumes, aerial feats, live music and extraordinary vocals, in both Portuguese and English, are included in this vibrant, high-energy, celebratory event.
We Are One: Part of the “Festival of Nations” evening on the last night of the cruise, this exhilarating journey brings everyone together to celebrate magnificent festivals from around the world. A giant world globe moves around the room with a female aerialist featured as Mother Earth. She takes the audience to some of the greatest festivals of the world.
SHOWTIME!
Casts of world-class singers, dancers and musicians star in Playlist Productions’ high-energy shows in the main stage theater. On Carnival Celebration, the repertoire offers three productions that reflect the ship’s celebratory theme:
Color My World: It’s an artful indie pop and rock love story with hits such as Lady Gaga’s “Applause,” The Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black,” Prince’s “Purple Rain” and Aerosmith’s “Pink.”
Amor Cubano: The exhilarating, rhythmic sounds of Cuba combine with today’s Latin hits to create an authentic, larger-thanlife Caribbean dance romance featuring the Playlist performers and the live music of the onboard Latin quartet. Songs include Latin Hits such as “Mi Tierra,” “Contigo en la Distancia” and “Represent Cuba,” with a finale of Celia Cruz classics.
Celestial Strings: A guest favorite, this is a reimagining of contemporary hits in a symphonic/classical/crossover rock and pop musical experience, featuring the Playlist performers and Carnival’s popular musical trio of string players.

Celebration Happy Hour: Marking a birthday, anniversary, graduation or other special event? Celebrate at this daily event at Latitudes with shoutouts, toasts, music and more fun.
Carnival is the world’s largest employer of comics in the world, hosting thousands of live performances a year, and the new ship continues that tradition. Guests can laugh it up at two dedicated comedy venues, The Limelight Lounge and The Punchliner Comedy Club
Carnival Celebration has the most exciting and diverse music offerings that Carnival has seen yet. Building on the overwhelmingly popular Center Stage concept on Mardi Gras, the new ship continues to feature the Center Stage Band with horns on stage with the Center Stage cast.
New music offerings include a full six-piece Backyard Band providing danceable live music favorites in Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse. The Golden Jubilee offers a classy homage to Carnival’s 50-year history, with elegant music played by a contemporary pianist as well as some fun collaborations.
GUESTS GET IN THE ACT
Guests can enjoy audience-participation games and parties, including a daily celebration at Latitudes:
What’s Age Got to Do with It? Kids and parents team up to show their trivia cred and prove they’re the best on board in a fun, lively quiz show hosted by the cruise director.
Guess That Groove: Get in on a musical mashup of genres and generations at an audience participation party. Guess song titles and lyrics — even backward! — and more.
Cash Bash: Try your luck and win some bucks at this entertaining game with the Fun Squad and the ship’s Casino Department. Will you have a great time? You bet!
Evolution: You’re invited to a high-energy mega-party hosted by the cruise director and a professional DJ, with performances by the Playlist Productions performers, DJ, guitar soloist and the string and horn trio.
Guests can still expect Carnival favorites like the piano bar entertainer, electric string trio, world-class pro DJs, solo guitarists and the Caribbean Soloist. Lastly, what Miami-based itinerary would be complete without a high-energy Latin quartet to keep the Havana Bar popping?
There’s plenty more happening on the sea. Try games like Wheely Big Trivia and Wheely Big Challenge. Sunset Reset, a twilight toast at the back of the ship, is the perfect way to end the day and start the night. Catch a movie under the stars at the giant Dive-In Movies screen up on Lido, where you can snuggle in a lounge chair or even relax in the pool as you watch movie heroes in action. Settle in for blockbuster movies, classic screen gems, romantic comedies, adventure flicks, even live sporting events. And there’s popcorn!
Dive-in movies are fun for singles and families alike. Families also get their own special spaces, proving once again why Carnival is the No. 1 cruise line for parents and kids. Carnival hosts nearly a million kids a year with award-winning youth programs, supervised by experienced and enthusiastic youth counselors, that ensures the kids are well-occupied while parents enjoy some much-needed grown-up time.

Clockwise from top: Getting in a game of foosball, just one of the action-packed activities at The Warehouse; reading at Dr. Seuss Bookville; enjoying a night out with the family.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY FUN
If you have little ones, don’t miss Seuss at SeaTM, where they can discover the unforgettable characters of Dr. Seuss. They’ll love getting to know popular characters such as The Cat in The Hat during fun events like Seuss-a-palooza Story Time and the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast. Carnival Celebration also features Dr. Seuss Bookville, where families can gather to read, play games and participate in activities.
Reliable favorites are still part of Carnival’s youth programming, including Build-A-Bear Workshop at Sea and Zumbini movement and music classes. The fleetwide Camp Ocean program, for ages 2-11, is like summer camp (but even more fun).
Groups of Penguins (2-5), Stingrays (6-8) and Sharks (9-11) have a blast with age-appropriate activities, including some designed to educate kids about the ocean. The kids will be so busy with arts and crafts, toys, games, movies, video games, music and dancing, it will definitely be one of their favorite cruise memories.
The programming includes family times when parents can come play with their kids. Later, the Night Owls program assures parents can enjoy some alone time around the ship.
Camp Ocean is adjacent to both Dr. Seuss Bookville and Family Harbor Lounge, open exclusively to guests in Family Harbor staterooms and suites.
High up on Deck 17, Circle “C” is a dedicated space where those ages 12-14 can socialize, with dance parties, movies, games and other awesome activities getting everyone involved. The club is equipped with a high-tech sound system, specialty lighting, dance floor, dedicated gaming area and more, and for Carnival Celebration it got a fresh new design with a crafting studio and hang-out nooks.
Nearby, Club O2 is the place for guests ages 15-17 to listen to music, sing karaoke, watch movies and otherwise chill. There is video gaming, of course, and late-night dance parties. Club O2 also features an outdoor deck exclusively for teens, providing an exciting atmosphere for teens to connect and make new friends. The Warehouse video arcade offers round-the-clock fun from foosball to virtual car racing, plus skeeball and other games of skill.
LEADING ROLES
Meet the designated fun drivers on Carnival Celebration Two of Carnival guests’ favorite leaders will headline the ship’s onboard entertainment teams.
ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR: CALVYN MARTENS
Martens hails all the way from Vancouver, Canada. He joined the Carnival family as part of the team for Carnival Holiday in 2003 and today, 19 years later, is delighted to be leading the entertainment team on Carnival Celebration
His Carnival journey has been marked by many highlights and achievements. His fondest memories include being selected for the inaugural teams of Carnival Magic and Carnival Breeze and leading Carnival Legend on its inaugural Baltic season.
Martens first became known to Carnival guests as the “Morning Show” co-host and executive assistant to Brand Ambassador John Heald. He looks back fondly on that experience and opportunity.
Previously, he held the position of cruise director before transferring his skills and vast entertainment experience to become one of the cruise line’s top entertainment directors. He specializes in entertainment operations and has enjoyed passing the spotlight to a new generation of entertainers. He now focuses on mentoring, training and developing the onboard teams. Martens enjoys watching Carnival’s entertainment offerings come to life on board while watching guests enjoy the entertainment programming. He is delighted to be part of Carnival Celebration.
CRUISE DIRECTOR: LEE MASON
Hailing from Cumbria, England, Mason served as cruise director aboard Mardi Gras before being named to the position on Carnival Celebration. He joined Carnival in 2016 as a cruise director and has worked on many ships in the fleet. He quickly made his mark within the Carnival family in the United States, Australia and online.
Mason is noted for his genuine interactions and sincerity on stage. Having trained at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York City, he started his career in children’s theater – which, combined with copious amounts of coffee, may explain his boundless energy and love of life.
Mason says his proudest achievement to date is helping to set Carnival Splendor’s record $40,000 raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 2018. He also is proud to have been part of the leadership team for Carnival’s longest and first-ever passenger sailing from Long Beach, California, to Singapore. Most recently, he was part of the return to service of Carnival Panorama as Carnival resumed operations in California. He is honored to be part of this incredible journey.

PORT MIAMI | GREATER MIAMI & MIAMI BEACH
Ted Arison was a pioneer in the cruise industry and a visionary job creator. From Carnival Cruise Line’s hardscrabble origins 50 years ago, Ted and his son, Micky, set about to revolutionize an industry and spread fun to cruise guests all over the world.
PortMiami and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau have had the privilege of bearing witness to the growth of Carnival Cruise Line over the last 50 years. When TSS Mardi Gras set sail in 1972 from Miami, she launched modern-day cruising and helped make PortMiami the Cruise Capital of the World. In 2022, PortMiami welcomes Carnival Celebration, the largest vessel of the Carnival fleet, to her new home at Terminal F. In addition to enhancements to improve the guest experience, this newly expanded facility is LEED Silver certified, serves as home to the first LNG-powered vessel at PortMiami and has shore power capability.
Greater Miami and Miami Beach are known for their culturally diverse neighborhoods, miles of iconic beaches, international cuisines and a world-class art scene, creating an endless voyage before or after the cruise experience. We cannot wait to see what the next 50 years bring!
LUFTHANSA
As a proud partner of Carnival Cruise Line, Lufthansa Industry Solutions (LHIND) joins the 50-years celebration. For this significant milestone, we cordially congratulate and want to honor the business partnership and the path we have taken on together. Carnival Corporation has trusted our IT know-how for years to gear up their vessels during dry dock deployments and new build projects. This trust in each other as partners has not only driven Carnival's digitalization but also the entire industry –a continuously progressing development, especially in an era in which new challenges are steadily emerging.
LHIND is excited to introduce our new sustainable solutions for the cruise line industry. Today, artificial intelligence and data analytics can help reduce food waste and facilitate greater sustainability. For example, our Food Waste Reduction AI tool tracks the food levels in each tray served to the guests in real-time. This allows operators to predict better what provision they will need to restock and avoid leftovers. It is a greener and smarter strategy to run any cruise line galley.
LHIND has also launched several solutions to modernize and monitor vessels' overall operations. For example, SMILE AI is a camerabased tool that provides real-time insights into the current number of people and their characteristics. Skipper goes a step further by combining various AI technologies to monitor cruise line operations efficiency through predictive and descriptive data analytics.
May the journey of Carnival's success continue in the coming years! LHIND is on board for Carnival's next 50 years to sail their digitalization strategy.
