Femininity has always been the core voice of ONE Magazine. Over the years the style has evolved along with my style and likings – I always felt the true natural beauty of women in all shapes, features and forms are the most beautiful. The editorials in this issue represent femininity in many different interpretations because there is no one way to look at beauty. This issue involved a lot of time, work and rework. I wanted this one to be what I’ve always wanted it to visually look like over the past couple years but I never had enough time to get it there. The visual identity of the newly redesigned interior speaks to the breath and strength ONE has evolved into over the past eight years. As the audience continues to grow, I have learned and grown with you all. The magazine has been a huge undertaking for me as the years go by and I figure out what I can handle on my own and where I want to take the magazine in the future. As I reflect on the past eight years running the magazine, it has never been easy. Late nights, early mornings, constant anxiety on not 1 OF 2

responding to emails sooner or on time. It’s a lot to take on for one person alone, and somehow I have been doing just that for eight years straight. Don’t get me wrong, I love working on ONE and what it has become for each reader. But this year was a constant struggle and I’ve become burnt out. So what does this mean for the future of ONE? I’ll simply put it as I’m taking a little break. I need to take some time for myself and recuperate. This does not mean the magazine is ending. I will still be managing the Instagram and some digital features from time to time but there will be no upcoming printed issues for a while. I want to thank each and every one of you for your excitement every time an issue is launched. That’s where the fire for me to keep going comes from. So this is a see you later – I cannot wait to come back fully refreshed with new ideas and ways to expand ONE into what I’ve always wanted it to be.
Thank you. 2 OF 2

Eggs
The creation of this story began with photographer, Otto Masters discovering imagery of traditional Japanese methods of carrying eggs. Woven from bamboo, it was created from a plethora of shapes and sizes for this single purpose. Some of the pieces follow a closer link from the Japanese influence; the Cult Gaia acetate tortoiseshell bag is a modern recreation of traditional bamboo bags, the Margiela Tabi boots are a take on traditional tabi shoes and The Row leather clutch is influenced by traditional bags worn with kimono.

Rodarte
For two years, the New York Fashion Week stages have felt the pang of losing Rodarte to Paris. The Los Angeles-based duo, Laura and Kate Mulleavy, took an extended hiatus from New York to present during Couture Week in Paris and to direct and write their first feature film entitled “Woodshock.” Now, they’ve returned to New York to breathe new life in to a sea of trends, and what better way to do so then by having models rise like ghosts from the New York City Marble Cemetery.

The sister duo launched their label in 2005 and have since received numerous accolades and awards, but despite their commercial success, the Mulleavys are known to pull away from industry standards. For instance, when the fashion world says speed up, the Mulleavys slow down to focus on their craft. And in a time where streetwear rules the runway, Rodarte showcases looks that are feminine and romantic. In place of bike shorts, labels and graphic T-shirts, models walked through the rain with shoes adorned with bows, headpieces full of flowers, tulle veils and gold arm cuffs. Although one could argue that Rodarte stuck to what it knows for Spring 2019, the sisters certainly did not disappoint. Rodarte’s signature designs are looks that are pretty, embellished and floral but with elements that elevate them to make their clothes interesting and timeless. Regardless of what the season calls for, Rodarte delivers a collection that stands out from the rest, and the fashion industry has so much belief in the sisters’ abilities that they are willing to sit through a downpour in a cemetery to see this vision come to life.
189
Over the years, Rodarte has managed to evolve as a brandwithout sacrificing what it does best, which is something special during a time where streetwear reigns supreme and designers are called upon to create collections as fast as customers can click online. Their upcoming exhibition at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. proves that this dedication to their vision has paid off. Their exhibit opens in November and will be the museum’s first fashion exhibition devoted to a single fashion label. In addition, the Mulleavys’ designs were recently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Heavenly Bodies exhibition alongside iconic looks from names like McQueen and Versace. Rodarte’s show and overall success demonstrates that romance and femininity still have a secure place in fashion. In fact, their collection serves as a reminder that in a time when women’s strength is being showcased, femininity should not be equated with weakness, because Rodarte’s looks were feminine, but not necessarily demure. The collection was for women who are bold and strong, confident in their style and willing to stand out. Rodarte brought the fairy tale back to New York, but in their story, the women don’t need a prince to save them, in fact, they don’t need saving at all.
