B.Hickok/Wild Bill, J.B.Omohundro/Texas Jack, W.F.Cody/Buffalo Bill, each has signed and inscribed with their stage names as the three principals of Ned Buntlines 1873-74 production “Scouts of the Plains”. This autograph album is truly a unique one-of-a-kind find! It is highlighted by the extremely rare autographs and inscriptions of Wild Bill Hickok/Wild Bill, Texas Jack Omohundro, W.F. Cody/ Buffalo Bill, each has signed and inscribed with their stage names as the three principals of Ned Buntlines 1873-74 production “Scouts of the Plains.” To find Hickok with his double signature of Wild Bill is almost unobtainable. We have only found one other to have come up for auction in the last 20 years and can not find any single pieces signed by all 3 to have ever come to market. There are only a handful of the Hickok autographs known, and since he was only part of the play for less than 5 months, it is extremely rare to find any items signed in this period by this western legend. The signed page even has some other performers of the period, some who might have appeared in the same performance or theater. The album was created by a wealthy and successful architect named W. H. Culshaw, who used his skills as a draftsman to carefully create a unique and beautiful autograph album. He created calling cards with ink on the pages, using a different pattern on every page. The signers were then asked to write in specific areas, with specifically designated theme pages. This unique album boasts one-of-a-kind combinations of signatures on its single pages. For example, one page has Civil War generals and future President: U.S. Grant, P.H. Sheridan, John Pope, W.T. Sherman, G.A. Custer, John A. Logan, and S.A. Hurlbut. Or how about the page with writers including an early Mark Twain/Samuel L. Clemens, Henry W. Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes Etc.. The book contains celebrities and important personages of England and the United States in the early 1870s. Collected by W.H. Culshaw, a wealthy architect from Liverpool who traveled between Great Britain and the United States. Other pages show the autographs of composers and musicians, sideshow acts, actors, politicians, royalty and much more. Culshaw and Sumners firm was made up of English architects and surveyors who practiced in Liverpool in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The firm was established by 1839 by William Culshaw, who was joined by Henry Sumners in 1861. At the time of his death in 1874, he lived in Rodney Street, one of the most prestigious streets in the city, and owned property worth nearly £140,000 (£11,010,000 as of 2014). After Culshaw’s death, his practice was continued succeeded by his son, Alfred, through 1916. William Culshaw died in 1874. His son most likely carried on the tradition of collecting rare signatures to account for the later autographs. William Culshaw died in 1874. 2. DAVID CROCKETT ADS PROMISSORY NOTE
Fantastic Promissory note by David Crockett for the sum of $2 dollars, the promissory note says “One day after date I promis to pay J.H. Ball $2 value rec. August 6th ,1831” David Crockett. Any document signed by Crockett are quite scarce.  David “Davy” Crockett (August 17, 1786 – March 6, 1836) was a 19th-century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and politician. He is commonly referred to in popular culture by the epithet “King of the Wild Frontier”. He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Texas Revolution, and died at the Battle of the Alamo. 3.WILLIAM BARRET TRAVIS William Barret Travis Document Signed “W. Barret Travis.” Two pages, 7.75” x 12.75”, [San Felipe de Austin, Texas], October 15, 1833. Born near Saluda, South Carolina, William Barret Travis (1809-1836) moved with his family to Alabama when he was nine years old. He attended school in Claiborne, Alabama, and eventually was accepted as an apprentice to the town’s leading attorney, James Dellet. In 1828, at the age of 19, Travis married Rosanna Caro and their son, Charles, was born the following year. By the time he was 21, W. Barret Travis founded the Claiborne Herald, becoming the publisher and editor. He had accepted a position as adjutant in the Alabama militia and opened a law office. Possibly because his newspaper was not profitable and income from his law office was not enough to pay his debts, as well as an unhappy marriage, Travis abandoned his pregnant wife (Susan was born in 1831) and son and left for Texas in April 1831. Arriving in San Felipe de Austin, he obtained land from Stephen F. Austin on May 21, 1831, listing his marital status as “single.” He established a legal practice in Anahuac on Galveston Bay. Travis traveled through Texas doing legal work, becoming associated with a group of militants who opposed the Law of April 6, 1830, designed to stop the flood of immigration from the United States to Texas and to encourage Mexican and European settlement. Eventually this group became known as the “War Party” as tension increased between the Mexican government and American settlers in Texas. After the Anahuac Disturbances of 1832, Travis moved his legal practice to San Felipe de Austin. It was here that Travis, a year later, signed as a witness this inventory of the estate of the late William Robinson. The inventory includes debt owed to individuals, land deeds, letters, etc. Countersigned by seven other men. Expertly silked with light to moderate bleedthrough. Edges are uneven. By March of 1835 a huge rift had grown between “Peace Party” and “War Party” Texans as to what course of action should be pursued regarding centralism and states’ rights. Elections for governor, vice-governor, and members of the legislature had recently taken place in Coahuila and Texas. Evidence of legislative corruption appeared in a decree passed on March 14, 1835, authorizing the governor to sell 400 leagues of land, over 1.7 million acres, at less than two cents per acre, without being subject to the provisions of the general colonization law of 1825. The lands were shortly disposed of to speculators. Texas wanted to separate from Coahuila. On March 15th, Stephen F. Austin wrote “The territorial question is dead. The advocates of that measure are now strongly in favor of a state government; and that measure is now before Congress. A call has been made upon the president [Santa Anna] for information on the subject; and I am assured the president will make his communication in a few days, and that it will be decidedly in favor of Texas and the state.” Santa Anna was simply delaying until he could get Texas occupied with his troops.Open rebellion soon erupted and Travis joined in the fight. By December 1835 he had been given a lieutenant colonel’s commission of cavalry in the Texan army. Shortly after he was ordered to defend San Antonio de Bexar by reinforcing the Texan force already occupying the Alamo. Travis and his men arrived on February 3, 1836, and nine days later he was given overall command of the garrison. On February 22, Santa Anna and his army had arrived and began a thirteen day siege. The assault of the Alamo came on March 6. Travis perished (he died early in the battle with a single gunshot wound to the head) in the battle with 188 fellow Texas patriots.

4.OUTLAW FRANK JAMES, RARE HANDWRITTEN LETTER
FRANK JAMES. Western outlaw along with his brother, Jesse. Both were former raiders with the Confederate guerilla Quantrill during the Civil War, and both teamed up with the Younger brothers to form a gang of bandits that terrorized the west, robbing and killing. The Younger brothers died during a bank robbery in 1876 and Frank and Jesse were captured Jesse was murdered in 1882. Autograph Letter Signed “Your affect, hubby, Ben,” 2 pages 4to written horizontally in dark ink over a penciled letter of a his brother-in-law, Sam Ralston, dated September 19, 1883 from Sonora, Mexico. Frank writes “My darling. Today is my day to write you and I will add what little there is to say on this letter of Samies. I miss you very much and love you more than all the world. I had a letter from John Edards today he has been to Jeff City. Says thins look good and that Philips will go with me to the end of the world if necessary. I will write Jim a long letter next Monday. I have had but few visitors since you left. Paddy will move soon. I am looking for a letter from you today or tomorrow. Hope you and Rob are having a good time tell my little man he must not forget his papa. I hope you have met all our friends. Now my little woman don’t forget your poor old hubby will you. Love to all EX. hoping to hear from you soon. I beg to remain your affect. hubby, Ben.” Fine, with the envelope addressed in his hand to “Mrs. A. F. James/ independence/Mo.” thus incorporating his signature. Housed in a handsome slipcase of marbled board with a leather spine imprinted in gold “Frank James SHOOTOUT Sept. 19, 1883,” with two pistols embossed in it as well. Sam’s letter talks of an acquittal, presumably Frank’s acquittal on some charge, and hopes Annie will come to Sonora for the winter, and mentions some trouble he had with the town sheriff and a man named Burns who involved him in a gunfight. Sam writes “…. Burns pulled out a pistol said he was armed and not afraid of anyone I said so am I and stepped back and fired my pistol over their heads ... they looked at me and walkd off...” The slipcase has a photograph of James mounted in the inside front cover, and the envelope mounted in the inside back cover

5. RAIN IN THE FACE
One of the most feared and respected Native American warriors of the late 19th century. A Hunkpapa Lakota, he was born in about 1835. His name may have been a result of a fight when he was a boy in which his face was splattered like rain with his Cheyenne adversary’s blood. He has often been linked to the death of General George Custer, the United States Cavalry hero, at his defeat at the Battle of Little Bighorn in Montana in 1876. There is much argument about who actually killed Custer. The general’s wife believed that Rain in the Face dealt the death blow and the American poet Longfellow wrote about his deeds in ‘The Revenge of Rain in the Face.’ Original 4.25 x 6.5 half-length cabinet photo of Chief Rain In The Face in a jacket and tie, imprinted in the lower border “Geo. E. Spencer, U.S. Army Photo, 7420 Ellis Ave. Chicago,” and “Sitting Bull’s Log Cabin now on Exhibition at World’s Fair, Chicago, 1893, owned by Sitting Bull Log Cabin Co., Mandan, North Dakota,” printed along the top edge. Signed on the reverse in pencil, “Rain in the Face.” In very good condition, with scattered surface marks and rubbing to image, a litlle area in top center affecting written caption, does not affect photograph, scattered light soiling to borders, and scattered soiling to reverse. Rain in the Face signed this rare cabinet photograph at the 1893 Columbian Exposition (World’s Fair) in Chicago, Illinois. The Hunkpapa Lakota Sioux chief was a participant in one of the cultural villages on exhibition at the fair meant to represent peoples from around the world. The Indian exhibit included ‘Sitting Bull’s Cabin,’ the actual cabin in which the Sioux chief died. A contemporary description of the Exposition said of the scene: “Sitting Bull’s Cabin was filled with a number of Indians, including Rain-in-the-Face. War dances were given daily.” Acknowledged as the grandest exhibition of the time, the 1893 World’s Fair was attended by 27 million people, nearly half of the U.S. population. Rain in the Face and his band had surrendered in 1880, after which he lived on the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota. He died in 1905 on the reservation after a protracted illness. An extremely rare signed photograph, one of a very few known examples

7.YOUNG KING SIGNS (SENECA INDIAN CHIEF) This is a rare document signed by Seneca Chief Young King, great Indian leader; led the Indians in the famous Wyoming Massacre. The document originates from the great collector/dealer Charles Hamilton in which he described it as extremely rare. The document is for a payment by the US to his tribe in the amount of 100 Dollars. In part the document reads.. Received of the United states by the hands of Jasper Parrish Sub Agent to the Six Nations of Indians, One Hundred Dollars, in full for my individual annuity for the first and second quarters of 1827, per Act of Congress of 16th April 1827. 9.GEORGE WASHINGTON Partly-printed DS as president, signed “Go: Washington,” one page, 12.75 x 15.25, December 16, 1794. Threelanguage ship’s paper, with French on the left side, English in the center, and Dutch on the right, issued to, “James McKinzie, master and commander of the Brig called the Peggy…lying at present in the port of Alexa bound for Madeira and laden with Flour, Wheat, Indian Corn & Beans.” Signed in the middle panel by Washington and countersigned by Secretary of State Edmund Randolph. In good condition, with intersecting folds, with several vertical folds passing through signature, a tape repair to a separation in middle of signature, paper loss to upper right edge, scattered toning and soiling, and some other repairs to folds. The white paper seal is crisp and intact. In the past, Washington’s grist mill had sent flour to Madeira, receiving wine and other goods in exchange. Following Washington’s Neutrality Act of 1794, solidifying America’s relationship with France—ship’s papers were crucial documents, vital to the success of international trade.

19. ANDREW JOHNSON DS TO THE EMPEROR OF JAPAN Rare DS from Andrew Johnson to the Mikado (Emperor) of Japan Dated February 22, 1869. It is to apply the seal to this envelope for secretary of state by the president and refers to the then US Minister Resident to Japan Van Valkenburgh. The document is in fine condition, although it has been laminated by its past owner.Van Valkenburgh was instrumental in the delivery of the first iron clad war ship to Japan the same month and week that this document is dated. The war ship Kotetsu ( literally “Ironclad”), later renamed Azuma (“East”) was the first ironclad warship of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Built in France in 1864 for the Confederate States Navy as CSS Stonewall, and acquired from the United States in February 1869, she was an ironclad ram warship. She had a decisive role in the Naval Battle of Hakodate Bay in May 1869, which marked the end of the Boshin War, and the complete establishment of the Meiji Restoration.

28.THEODORE ROOSEVELT ROUGH RIDERS Two rare letters relating to the Rough Riders. The letters are written in reference to request by a Charles E. Clay to be a part of the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry, which was also known as the Rough riders. First letter is from Joseph Roswell Hawley dated may 2, 1898, who was a Civil War Brigadier General, Governor of Connecticut and politician. The letter to Clay states in part “that he received his letter at 1pm and he is sending it to Mr. Roosevelt by mounted messenger urging him to take you as a first rate English rough rider. I asked him to hold a vacancy for you, can come you see him……. , if so telegraph him”. The Theodore Roosevelt letter is on Navy Department Washington Stationary as Assistant Secretary, same day dated May 2, 1898, just weeks before the Rough Riders left to Cuba states in full” My Dear Mr. Clay, I am sorry that we evidently won’ be able to take another man.Were already over enlisted. Franklin D. Roosevelt: LS on letterhead of The Assistant Secretary of the Navy dated July 26th, 1920 to Senator James D. Phelan. Fine political content. In part: “It was awfully good of you to telegraph me on July 6th, and I greatly appreciate your kind thought in wishing me success at the coming election. I am proud to be on the ticket with Governor Co, and I am sure that the young men of the country, and all of the progressive element will not fail to realize that Governor Cox is the best equipped man in the country to cope with the great problems now confronting the nation. It is good to have the support and interest of men like yourself, and I am counting on it during the coming campaign.” Phelan was a U. S. Senator from Washington. Closely trimmed at the top and with tape traces at the upper corners, as well as mounting traces at the top on the reverse. None of this affects the text. The signature is bold, and the future president wrote at the bottom “More power to your arm!” This was an English drinking term of encouragement to one imbibing from a large container slung over his shoulder. A fine example from an important period in FDR’s career.

Truman,” one page, 14.5 x 19, dated May 8, 1945, issued the day after the German surrender in WWII, designating a day of prayer to be celebrated on May 13, 1945. In part: “The Allied Armies, through sacrifice and devotion and with God’s help, have wrung from Germany a final and unconditional surrender. The Western World has been freed of the evil forces which for five years and longer have imprisoned the bodies and broken the lives of millions upon millions of free-born men. They have violated their churches, destroyed their homes, corrupted their children, and murdered their loved ones. Our Armies of Liberation have restored freedom to these suffering people, whose spirit and will the oppressors could never enslave. Much remains to be done. A beautiful proclamation from this hard-won day of celebration, commemorating victory in Europe and bringing an end to one of the darkest periods of modern history. On Tuesday, May 8, 1945, recently appointed President Truman held a press conference in the Oval Office to announce Germany’s surrender in World War II. Before an audience of his cabinet, US and British military officials, and congressional leaders, he delivered this proclamation and declared May 13th, 1945, a day of prayer. Official Dallas police assassination documents from the estate of patrolman W.J. Harrison who witnessed and investigated the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald. These include copies of the police reports, sketches and photograph of Oswald’s shooting, along with mug shots of Oswald and Ruby. Also, two original Police photos, one showing the book depository building and the other a motorcade procession taken from the “grassy knoll” on “Monday morning after Nov. 22, 1963”. A reel to reel tape of an eye witness of the PT 109 disaster and heroic actions of JFK as told by a Lt. Commander who was on the accompanying PT boat and assisted in the rescue operations a week later. He was also hospitalized with Kennedy and lived in a tent with him for 3 months following their injuries. This was recorded at a military related speech and he points to some discrepancies in the movies and books, adding anecdotes from his discussions with JFK’s men at the time of their rescue. Which shows an interesting insight into Kennedy’s courage and personality during their R&R. We believe this is the only tape, since it was made in the 60’s specifically by the request of Marta Duda, a collector and supporter of Kennedy, and is part of her large and extensive collection. We have made a cd version of the tape to accompany it with the original.

The response from the nation was overwhelming. Well over 1,500 posters were entered in the contest, with the majority of them being of very high quality. And I am pleased to advise you that from among that number, the judges selected your poster as one of the sixty finalists. Although there is no monetary prize for this distinction, I would like to congratulate you on your achievement…To have been selected as a finalist from among such competition is indeed an honor, and one of which you can be justly proud. Again, may I extend to you my sincere congratulations.” Armstrong served as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Peace Corps from 1971-1973. Please accept, Your Majesty, my profoundest respect.” In fine condition, with a uniform shade of toning, some trivial soiling to edges, and light wrinkles. Pasteur was appointed professor at the Sorbonne in 1867 and remained there until his death in 1895. While there he applied his process of pasteurization to beer and began his investigation into animal diseases.

130. SIGMUND FREUD Sigmund Freud Typed Letter Signed “freud.” One page, 6” x 8.75”, on his personal letterhead, in German, Semmering [Austria], September 13, 1924. One year earlier, Freud had detected a lesion in his mouth that was later identified to be cancerous from his heavy cigar smoking. Writing to an unknown recipient, Freud wants to set up a meeting, but is having difficulty setting a day with doctor visits, in part: “It is true that visits still tire me very much, but your wish for a conversation concurs with mine, because I have decided to resign from the leadership of the group; I would like to hear your opinion about the consequences. When should this conversation take place? The next week is completely unsuitable for me since my physicians are coming back, and I do not know of any day when I will be here or in Vienna; when I am in Vienna it is always difficult for me to be on time for the train for my return. But in 14 days we will move to Vienna and I suggest to you to plan your visit perhaps for one of the last days of this month.” Freud struggled with mouth cancer until his death in 1939. The pain had become so severe that he committed suicide with the help of a physician friend, Max Schur, who administered fatal doses of morphine over the course of two days. Toned upper edge. THOMAS (PHONOGRAPH BUSINESS) An interesting correspondence of six signed letters written by Thomas Edison to one of his dealer representatives for the Gerard Phonograph Company.The complete collection consists of 10 letters, five letters are signed in pencil with his last name and one with his initials. The collection shows you an interesting insight into the way Thomas Edison worked within his business deals, the letters are referenced to Mr. Hawley’s accusation that Thomas Edison’s owned photograph Corporation of Manhattan was getting favoritism over other dealers and jobbers in Gerard’s territory. One letter on his laboratory stationery dated July 30, 1924 signed by Edison with last name in pencil. Five other handwritten letters signed by Edison are part of the correspondence to Mr. Holly and his claim.In one interesting note, Edison writes in full: “Hawley here seems to be the proof that your traveler is a liar signed Edison”. Also, included are the original letters sent to Edison and a letter showing the dealers and their operating commission plan for the Gerard phonograph Company dated June 24, 1924 listing the 14 dealers and their commission rates, below the list, Edison writes to Hawley “that these are his canvassing dealers were operating the sub dealer system in his territory and he will send whole lists when finished signed by Edison”. He engaged in several dubious pieces of business during the Civil War period, but was essentially an organizer and stabilizing force in business. Among his most daring undertakings was the formation of the US Steel Corp. in 1901. Morgan’s personal influence was a decisive factor in overcoming the money panic of 1907. With Fred at the helm of the company, Pabst rose to become the largest brewery in the world by the turn of the century. Considered in the ranks of Cobb, Wagner, and Jackson is the Washington Senators’ mound master Walter Johnson. So accomplished was his career that he was one of the first five players to be inducted into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1936. A Connecticut arms laboratory recorded Walter Johnson’s fastball at 134 feet per second. That is equal to ninety-nine miles per hour, a speed the lanky farmboy was somehow able to generate with a smooth sidearmed motion that baffled and certainly terrified opposing batters. In the blink of an eye... it was over. This card is Widely considered to be Johnson’s rookie, as no other cards dedicated to him conclusively predate this issue, this card is likewise the most valuable entry in the T204 set. The Ramly series is far more scarce in general than any of the other major tobacco sets issued during the period, and Johnson remains one of its most elusive residents. this is the only 4.5 VG-EX, graded by PSA and when looking at this example it seems to be a very conservative grade and one finds only light corner blunting and is a beautiful clean well centered example. With no shortage of aesthetic appeal, this solid example of this classic card deserves high ranking in any vintage collection and has the look of a much higher graded card.
