A Costa da Caparica é um dos locais mais relevantes do surf português. Apesar de ter estado ausente do circuito por mais de 10 anos, foi aqui que começou o primeiro verdadeiro circuito profissional português. Além disso, os seus muitos quilómetros de praias “albergam” mais surfistas que quase qualquer outra zona da nossa costa. A previsão para a primeira etapa da Liga MOCHE, o MEO Caparica Pro by Rip Curl, não era das melhores mas o banco de areia que se encontrava perfeitamente alinhado há semanas na Praia do CDS garantiu bom surf durante quase toda a prova. O campeonato começou com boas ondas no primeiro dia, que se foram deteriorando gradualmente com o forte vento que entrou. No terceiro dia entrou um swell gigante, dificultando ainda mais as condições mas isso em nada impediu Francisco Alves e Frederico Morais de se destacaram e se encontrarem na final. O derradeiro heat foi uma bateria difícil, da qual o local Francisco Alves saiu como justo vencedor para a alegria do público. Terminou assim o MEO Caparica Pro by Rip Curl, a etapa que relembrou o lugar da Costa da Caparica, e seus surfistas, no surf nacional!

Costa da Caparica is one of the most relevant locations in portuguese surfing. Despite being absent from the league’s schedule for over 10 years, it was where the first professional portuguese surf tour started and its many miles of coast line is home to a huge number of portuguese surfers. The swell forecast for the first stop of the MOCHE League, the MEO Caparica Pro by Rip Curl, wasn’t the best but a good sandbar who had been “sitting” at CDS beach for a few weeks secured good waves throughout the event. The contest started with good waves in the first day but they got worst as the wind kept getting stronger. In the third day a huge swell arrived but it didn’t stop Francisco Alves and Frederico Morais from standing out from the pack and meet in the final. The final was a hard heat but Francisco Alves came out on top and took the win, making the local crew happy. That’s how this event finished, reminding everyone the place Costa da Caparica, and its surfers, has in portuguese surfing!

Uma das maiores lendas da Costa da Caparica, Nuno Matta, não competia há tanto tempo quanto a ausência da Liga MOCHE nesta zona. Mas a presença do mais importante circuito nacional fê-lo voltar a vestir uma licra! || One of the biggest local legends is Nuno Matta and he hadn’t competed on a national level in as many years as the tour has been absent from Caparica. Em 2012, Edgar Nozes caiu do top16 depois de muitos anos entre os melhores. Este ano, mesmo sem patrocínios, apareceu no circuito com o surf ainda mais “sharp” que no passado e cheio de vontade de recuperar o seu lugar. || In 2012 Edgar Nozes “fell” from the top16 after many years among the best. Ivo Cação começou o ano com a motivação extra por ter conseguido um novo main sponsor, a Alpinestars. Na Caparica mostrou-se em grande forma mesmo nas difíceis condições, e soltou o tail com se estivesse nos seus point breaks da Figueira. || Ivo Cação showed up this year with the extra motivation of having found a new main sponsor, Alpinestars. Marlon Lipke foi o surfista que mais sofreu, chegando a ficar horas à espera, quase sozinho na praia, para realizar o último heat do dia, ao frio, ao vento e à chuva. Mas nada que um surfista que já esteve no WCT não veja como mais um dia normal no escritório! || Marlon Lipke was probably the surfer who suffered the most during this event.
